Another slight delay
Posted 8 years agotrip was amazing, definitely awesome
... unfortunately, on the return flight i caught a flu-like virus. it's largely kept me bed ridden for the past couple of days and will likely continue to do so for the next few.
after that i have the following on my docket
- revise and relaunch a more sustainable patreon
- kick out art assets for game designs
- tons of commissions
- adopts a plenty
thanks again for all your support!

Patreon Overhaul inbound
Posted 8 years agoso, part of the change-in-focus strategy that'll be inbound is that my patreon tiers will be changing at the end of the month.
to help accomodate for this change ...
ALL CURRENT TIERS WILL BE DELETED
this means that everyone will have to re-join the patreon in order to select their tier.
Given that I've noticed that there's a lot of people who simply don't read these updates (it's just how life goes) - this should be the best way to get ensure nobody ends up paying for what they don't want.
It'll also be more geared as a "continue to show your support" type of thing instead of "come get your perks" (even though there will be perks)
now then ... what to expect in the future!
- heavy emphasis on prints and game development.
- I'll be posting tons of concept work and such here.
- Commission discounts will be discontinued (due to complications in keeping track of who gets what and verifying it)
- the first day first dibs for patrons on adoptables WILL return (yay for you)
- possibly a "non-nude-but-slightly-lewd" exclusive pinup for a top tier reward. So this would be stuff like ... uhhh ... Power Girl undressing with her back to the camera.
If you have suggestions, requests, or other ideas: do let me know.

Story Time (life updates, etc)
Posted 8 years ago(was originally formatted on dA, read it here if this feels too jumbled for you --> http://fav.me/dbioe3v )
Well, if you've watched me for a while you'll probably recognize that in terms of total mass output this past month hasn't as strong as usual. And this is a bit to my dismay and not at all what I planned. With how things have been going I figure it's time to be a touch more transparent over these issues.
So what is this health issue you keep talking about?
A big reason i was vague was that I didn't know what the issue was. I knew a lot of what it wasn't (outlined below) but not what it was.
Recently, I've had some more insight to where I can say I think I actually know what the issue is (at least a very strong inclination). Unfortunately (due to what will be explained below), I can't confirm this for a couple more weeks
The current candidate for root cause is me having an Auto-immune disease (have had it since I was quite young), though more than likely it's fibromyalgia.
Fibromyalgia: there's a lot of misinformation about this (moreso LACK of info). So here's the skinny: it's a condition that affects how the brain registers and interprets pain. In short, everything is more painful and even some things that aren't painful become so. Here's a short list of SOME of the other coinciding problems that I have with it.
Muscle and body pains (I've realized this even more acutely due to an unwanted result of mindfulness meditation)
irregular sleep patterns
at times difficulty with focusing
headaches, all the time
hypersensitivity to the following
brightness or light (stepping outside and not bracing for it can stun me for a solid minute)
sound (certain frequencies completely debilitate my ability to think)
odors
tactile sensations
visual patterns (particularly animated patterns)
temperature (I cap out at 90 degrees)
reduced tolerance to exercise and lingering muscle pain (again with the pain. An intense 20 minute workout can leave my hands critically shaking for 2-4 hours ... like today)
Depression swings and other behavioral ailments (these aren't directly resultant, but rather a biproduct of the above)
While fibromyalgia isn't exactly an auto-immune disease, it shares MANY similarrities (which is why i need to get to the docs to have them formally screen). Graves disease is one such alternate possibility. A huge key, among everything else, is my continued and persistent body tremor (while most noticeable in my hands, my entire body has a tremor to it).
It's important to note that this has been going on since Jr High, but over the years has been gradually getting worse. Before it simply barred me from military service. It's now to the point of starting to impair my day-to-day. Further irritating since there really wasn't any key accident or trauma to set this in motion (as in I can't just say 'it's because of that!).
Also worth noting that the following I have been tested/diagnosed as NOT having
Rhuematic diseases: arthritis, lepus, etc
Parkinsons (that was one of the first things tested)
General Neurological illnesses (no idea how many of those i was tested for)
So that explains the health side of things.
Financial stress
First off, I hate government. And already I can basically hear some of your sphincters puckering up with rage out there because I said a bad trigger word. "how dare he hate the government. they do so much for us!" (that's actually why I hate them, they do too much)
The key issue I have is that career bureaucrat tools (those who don't run for office and are instead just cashing a check) have little to no incentive to be caring (see also DMV). It's part of the monopoly effect: when there's no competition for service on a necessary good, there's no reason for customer service ... 'cause they don't have a choice but put up with your shit.
Also, please direct disagreements and defense of the government to the refuse bin. Thank you.
WHY DID I GO OFF ON THE GOVERNMENT?
It's because they slapped me with a surprise $800 bill last month
The student loan council thought it prudent to send me a single notice that my "graduated income repayment plan" needed an additional signature for the first time in ever ... that landed in my junk email folder (because that's where out of the blue mail goes. and I've started religiously combing my junk mail folders ever since then: defeating the purpose)
When I tried to reason with them they were all "we did our part, you dumb kid. We sent you the notice, so now it's all on you."
Due to all the sales I ran and everything else, I was able to squeak past that one ...
But that's not all. When it rains it pours.
My laptop died. While I lucked out and was able to work out a payment agreement with the local store, it's still a huge setback for me.
the health issues, again. The downtime from being unhealthy has been eating at me. This led me to working with a personal trainer to try and get my body closer to functional. (and it's a good thing I put up with the out of pocket expenses, since with the trainer's help I have the solid bearing on the root cause of my health ailment that I outlined again.)
and a good number of other stressors on top of my usual workplace hell
What else could go wrong?
How about a vacation? (wut)
One quirk/upswing about being horribly lonely and single is that it does make you a bit more close to blood relatives.
On this point - last fall parents got together with me and said "hey, let's do something awesome, like a big vacation." And due to an anomaly in pricing, it really wasn't that much more for me to tag along as 3rd wheel.
This was going to result in a 2 week loss of pay and work, but I had planned and prepped and budgeted for that.
... at least, I had before the before surprise bills from hell started crawling out of the walls like in Aliens. All that money I had saved up to buffer for this period went elsewhere.
So yeah, another personal loan taken out. whee.
...
So that's what the deal is ...
I'm gonna be gone for a couple weeks. Limited contact with some infrequent uploads.
then when I'm back I'm gonna be working like hell (likely making myself sick)
So there you have it. Not a pleasant situation, but it is what it is.

Regarding 1st dibs on adopts
Posted 8 years agoIMPORTANT NOTE!! - The patron first dibs rule is no longer in effect.
business decision, blah blah blah. i'll be updating the $1 patreon fee accordingly (don't worry, it's not on a monthly, so you won't be charged on the 1st).
Any rate, I figure the 1-per-person-first-week is a good enough counter balance as is.

update ...
Posted 8 years agoSo ... where've I been?
Staycation with extended family the week prior took WAY more time than I thought it would (tried to doodle where I could).
Then the past week or so? ... got sick. Prescription side effects, had to get a change. That was rather unpleasant.
Any rate, I'm back to full health and likely not going to be interrupted ... sooo ... TIME FOR LOTS OF OUTPUT!

Posted 8 years agoTL;DR = People who get offended over "microagression words/phrases" like "manpower" are either too dumb to realize it wasn't (usually) meant to be offended, or are unwilling to give the benefit of the doubt, or are actively seeking to make offense so that they can leverage power over someone they disagree with.
If you want meat and potatoes go to the part labeled "THE THIRD POINT"
The first two points are tied into each other: ignorance and willful ignorance.
For starters: how many times have you heard a talk or a lecture open up with "The websters miriam dictionary lists Literal 'as in accordance with, involving, or being the primary or strict meaning of the word or words; not figurative or metaphorical' end quote." You've heard it a lot, likely at your graduation ceremony.
The follow-up question is how many of these lectures were worth listening to?
... likely none. I've only heard maybe 1 (maybe 2). Typically these talks are full of tripe and lacking in any personal insight that wasn't given to them by someone else.
Frankly it's because literal thought is one of the lowest forms of human cognition in existence. Don't believe me? Just try to get a child to obey you, they'll instantly question the literal meaning of what you're saying in order to find an out. If a child can tackle it effortlessly then you should probably let go of childish things.
For example, in the Spanish language (and I believe a few other languages in europe) they have genders for everything. And by that I mean that everything in language is treated either as male or female. It's built straight into the conjugation of adjectives and nouns. According to the modern progressive view this is sexist (and likely homophobic), for we are largely wrong to say that most colors should be male (rojo=red). As such, everything about the language has to be stripped away.
"but that's not what I was talking about!"
Actually it is. Thing is, HISTORICAL CONTEXT (and i mean before 1960s when your college professors and favorite celebrities were born) MAN meant either male or humankind (as in, it's an abbreviation series humankind - mankind - man). ... of course, if you buy into the evil white guy patriarchy argument then sure why not.
THE THIRD POINT
So I'm accusing a ton of people of leveraging the ease of creating "microaggressions" from literal word choice as using petty power play. It's a fantastic gateway to use this as accusations of bigot (something that's liable to get others so angry they'll stop thinking).
This tactic is ANCIENT, meaning that it's simply part of human nature. To illustrate, I'm going to refer to an incident involving Jesus.
(HOLY CRAP! I'M TALKING RELIGION! RUN! ... actually I'm not. Just read this whole thing out.)
Basic primer is Jesus was telling everyone not to be jerks, and the the Pharisees didn't like this. They were the biggest jerks of the time; also the one in most relative power (outside the ruling roman government). They're also the ones who were most involved with enforcing the perversion of the mosaic law. They were the ones who took literal interpretations to an asinine extreme where you couldn't tie a knot with 2 hands on sunday (that would be considered labor). Naturally, having a political opponent in Jesus; these nitwits resorted to literal attempts (repeatedly) to try and take him down.
The incident in question revolves around the phrase "who then is my neighbor." If you're familiar with the context, skip down to THE PUNCHLINE. (I'm paraphrasing all this, by the by. You're also missing the point if you get angry that i didn't literally quote scripture.)
So a guy goes up and asks Jesus a question. Let's be honest, the safe bet is he really didn't care. He's more like a white-house-correspondence press reporter asking a trap question to a politician hoping to get a headline gaffe and make people angry.
The guy says "soooo ... which commandment's the greatest?"
Jesus replied "love god."
the other guy says "what's second?"
Jesus said "love your neighbor."
the other guy says (what I'm sure he thought was a brilliant trap) "who, then, is my neighbor?"
Jesus then replied with the story of the Good Samaritan. If I quote it here, you're probably not going to fully appreciate it given there's a bit of political rub in it. (actually, Jesus did this very frequently. We're missing a lot of context so we don't get to appreciate all the subtle humor in what he said.) So I've updated it with an actual incident from my own life (that surprisingly matches historical context).
"So I was on a road trip with the folks when I realized there was something wrong with the topper on our truck (we drove an extended cab and put all the luggage in the truck bed with a hardcase topper on it). We're out in the nevada desert on northbound I-15 and have to pull over to the side. Dozens of cars drive by. I'm sure in them were upright religious folk, business men, racial advocates who voted obama and hillary, enviornmentalists, and other very well to do members of polite society. Surprisingly someone stopped by. He was a trucker driving his big rig, in the middle of a delivery route, wearing a "make america great again" ball cap. He pulled over behind us and helped us out. Nice feller."
K, so after Jesus tells the story Jesus then asks the guy "which of these followed the commandment?"
the guy replied "the samaritan" (or in my case, the trump-voting-trucker)
Jesus then chided him saying "go and do ye likewise."
THE PUNCHLINE
Think about it - that guy tried to make Jesus look bad by using a VERY LITERAL definition of "neighbor" in order to find fault. There is absolutely no question the guy knew fully well that "neighbor" in religious context means "anyone you meet." But he didn't care. What he cared about was shutting down his political opponent. So - using literal tactics was his best shot.

Comey and the News Media
Posted 8 years agoI'm not going to be talking about anything that's particularly obscure today. It's not like healthcare or anything complex, everything I'm saying here is stuff that you can easily find with a single search. That's why i'm not gonna post links.
The reason I'm posting this, then, is simply to illustrate and ridicule of mainstream news' marriage with the regressive left (by that i mean the numbskulls that played right into Trump's hands during the election).
So, here's the punchline and supporting clauses, just so you know where i'm going
- The regressive left and the news outlets are showing outrage over the firing of FBI Director Comey because (I suspect) they fear that Trump will go after Hillary for TREASON
- in case you already forgot, Hillary (and generally everyone else who tried to promote her) blamed Comey for the election loss ... i suspect Comey was the patsy
- Trump isn't an idiot, if you look at his actions and "stupid things he says" he actually gets what he wants by making key gullible people angry
- If Hillary does get indicted for Treason (plenty of evidence) it would be ruinous for the regressive left.
FLASHBACK
Immediately after the election, Trump gave his customary acceptance speech, offered the usual concise polite letter to the defeated opponent, etc. Hillary's camp barely gave a concession speech (it seemed apparent they didn't even have one ready) then fell silent for a week. THEN ... Hillary came out and blamed FBI Director Comey for the loss. As you remember: he launched 2 investigations against Hillary, both of which were basically a farce. Tons of incriminating evidence with all the leaks and everything then "oops, we won't proceed". This happened about 2 months out, then roughly a week or two before (the second attempt was just embarrassing because they had obscene thousands of emails to sift through and claimed they did it in under a week.
...
So to recap: Hillary was mad at Comey because he launched an incomplete TREASON investigation. (instead of ... say ... Hillary lost because she was a horrible candidate)
Since then, because the news media was in bed with the DNC (see also leaked debate questions via CNN), they kinda hopped on board to paint Comey responsible and a bad person. When he got put on the congressional panel, the media covered it because Comey is a bad person.
So, Trump fires him for these mishandled investigations (along with everything else).
...
And now people are angry.
The most sad example is the Cobert show. He tells his liberal audience that Trump fired Comey and the audience cheers. Then Cobert has to correct and re-educate his audience why it's suddenly a bad thing.
THE REAL QUESTION IS WHY
Biggest thing I've learned is not to take the news at face value. Always assume there's a motivation behind why the editors are picking the stories they choose to run.
"But, Jon! The news plays an important part in our society by telling us unbiased information!"
- correction, the news has an important RESPONSIBILITY to do so; largely they don't. Much like everyone has the responsibility not to murder each other (see also Chicago daily murder rate).
I'm not one to be content with "because they're idiots." It's tempting to say it's part of a brainless "anti-trump on everything" mentality. But that doesn't really get you much of anywhere and relies solely on reinforcing stereotypes. So for a blatant flipflop of suddenly trying to defend someone that they blamed the election on ... over something that Trump ultimately has every right to do ... there's probably an ulterior unspoken motive.
MY GUESS AS TO WHY
Trump said pre-election (and actually within the first week of election, once) that he would indict Hillary for Treason. (Again, this isn't without reason, unless you played blind to all the corruption in the DNC email leaks.) He retracted the statement shortly after ... but my suspicion is that this was simply a politically savvy move.
You have to remember that Trump's team has been expertly manipulating the VERY GULLIBLE media.
- Brief example: I believe Spicer was acting the Patsy when he made the holocaust statements. Trump wanted to get in and take out Assad after he used the gas weapons that Hillary said he didn't have. But if he just went in, the media would cook this against him as a warmonger. So ... Spicer makes the dumb comment. Now ... the news media all lambasts Spicer ... which means they all spread the news that Assad did use gas attacks which puts him on par with Hitler. ... ultimately that's a Trump win with dealing on Syria, because ALMOST NOBODY has criticized his use of force against Assad.
- Other example is releasing his tax returns to the most viewer hungry incompetent reporter on the planet.
Being said ...
Trump lets his committee build up this massive case against Comey. He also gives the media a chance to relive their "Hillary didn't lose the election, Comey did" rhetoric (and during this whole time they also kinda destroy any credibility to EVIL RUSSIAN HACKERS). So now that the media is kinda stuck with pants down, Comey's no longer in there.
IF Comey was acting the patsy in botching the investigation (it's been suspected he did so in a weird attempt to paint Hillary as innocent), then that would make him a DNC stooge. If he was a DNC stooge, working under Trump, he would have botched any further investigations against the DNC. (given they rigged the primaries against Bernie and all that)
- With Comey now OUT of the FBI (now with good reason of incompetence put on public display) this means Trump will appoint a new director.
- With Comey gone, you can bet that a lot of other FBI agents will be receiving pink slips as well
- With the FBI cleaned, that means Hillary can be indicted and PROSECUTED for TREASON
If the regressive left's former champion of Identity Politics falls into the meat grinder of a trial for TREASON ... that kinda destroys the entire movement. (i.m.o. that's a great thing, the whole movement is nothing but an excuse for bullying fueled by Marxist contempt and neo-puritan witchhunts)
- Frankly, it'll also make everyone who voted for Hillary feel embarrassed to. but we'll burn that bridge when we cross it.
To me, this is why I think the left is now suddenly upset over Comey's loss of job. They fear for the structure of their movement and the trial of Hillary.
Sorry for the long post, have a political potato

Adoptables clearance and stock changes update
Posted 8 years agoIMPORTANT note regarding adoption sets!!
I'm implementing a policy change with regards to how i run the stock/inventory on these adoptables.
- In the past I've had 10 of these sets available at a time, oldest one being on close-out.
- NOW, I'm going to change it so I'll only have 5 available at a time, excluding any that are being phased out.
- Which means, on average each of these sets will only be available for 1 month at most. These will be more of a limited time offering
So ... to make way for it, I'm putting a ton of these adopts onto clearance. (do note that the clearance discount in the future will not be this beneficial)
If you had your eyes on Teachers/Pets, Kaijus, Fraternal Twins, Bunny girls, or Dragon Girls ... now's your last chance to jump in on them. As all of these sets will be closing on the 11th.
You can check the full list of adoptables here --> http://joncomms.deviantart.com/jour.....ance-605585436
Cheers!

I'm back! what to expect
Posted 8 years agoHey alls
So yeah, I took my small sabbatical to recouperate and reanalyze how I'm doing stuff. I've implemented most of the changes.
So, I'll be cranking out art and commission works full steam. woo hoo.
HOWEVER, there is a small hitch.
- I have some upcoming bills. Mostly to deal with taxes.
- In order to accomodate for this I'll be launching a couple of promotions with priority completion. I'll upload these later today.
Any rate, thanks for the support everyone!

Important note regarding REWARD DRAWINGS
Posted 8 years agoI'm kicking this out here, as well as other venues (and a couple people directly as well).
Any rate, through both Patreon and customer loyalty clients can receive complimentary drawings (yay).
I'm keeping this program active.
What i am changing, though, is that these rewards will have an expiration date now.
Basically, they must be redeemed within 30 days of notification.
This is owing to a few instances of rewards stacking up, then creating uneven workloads in my process. It's enough to somewhat hinder the completion of regular commissions. The goal, by forcing them to be redeemed within a month of notification, is to better distribute these reward drawings throughout my workload.
Cheers!

general update
Posted 8 years agoUnfortunately I've been dealing with some burnout as of late. Took the past couple days off to try and recover. May or may not take today off as well.
A big contributing factor is that I haven't been able to touch my game project in a few weeks due to keeping up on comms work. So I'm gonna be looking at how I work stuff
Moving forward, though, I'll be doing a handful of small changes in order to adjust to the change in workload. Thing is, my demand has actually increased quite a lot over the past few months but I was still doing a bunch of practices for low-demand artists which were bogging me down. These are more "soft adjustments" (so it's not worth saying I thought you said that...) and I'm not 100% if I'll be doing them or not ...
- jump-ins are very likely going away. I kinda held onto them as a courtesy, but with a looming commission list and other considerations it seems to be causing more issues than its worth
- If I do resume streams, it'll likely be without jump-in commissions
- I may be more selective on replying to answers and inquiries. Again, this is for traffic amount and stress relief, especially when a lot of these questions are covered in FAQs (the irony being that those who ask obvious repeat questions are the ones who won't read this)
I got other things I'm looking at. But nothing firm on the plate.
