Literary Commissions Are Open!
Posted a week agoRight, so... Good news, my father is home safe from the hospital and is doing well. Bad news? My financial situation is bad enough that we're both living off of TV dinners, which we are now out of, and our bank account is in the negative halfway through each month. I need some form of income, disabled or not, in pain or not.
So I'm opening commissions for stories and/or other forms of literature. This includes, but is not limited to: SFW, NSFW (erotica), fantasy, sci-fi, comedy, romance, horror, D&D worldbuilding, poetry, and so on. Have you enjoyed my work before and want something written for you in my style? Now you have the opportunity to get something from me and help me not go bankrupt, lose my home, or suffer from starvation.
I can't be sure how turnaround times will be, given my chronic carpal tunnel syndrome and need to take frequent breaks. It largely depends on the length of the story that's commissioned, and how well Google Voice Typing goes when outlining and drafting. Current estimates are approximations and may not be set in stone. If I get multiple clients, understand that it may take time for me to get to your commission, and you may end up on a waiting list.
Prices can be found here in my price list, along with my Terms of Service: https://docs.google.com/document/d/.....it?usp=sharing
Prices are non-negotiable at present, but payment plans are available for those struggling financially like myself.
If interested, comment here or send me a note. Please read the full price list and Terms of Service before you order a commission.

United States SCOTUS could legalize Conversion Therapy
Posted 3 weeks agoIf you don't know, Conversion Therapy is electrical shock torture used on LGBT children to 'correct their sexual orientation.' It's also proven not to work.
So, how are you dumbass Trump voters feeling about your vote now? Are the egg prices that still haven't gone down worth being fucking tortured for being gay?

Duma is Leveling Up - Level 35 Achieved!
Posted a month agoI'm getting old. ;w;
Probably not going to be the best birthday of my life.
My father's still in the hospital. His blood platelet count is back up, but he was passing blood in his urine; he was discovered to have gallstones, and something is apparently wrong with his liver. Will probably spend most of my birthday visiting him in his hospital room if he doesn't get to come home. Still terrified I'm going to lose him if not this year then next year.
I'm broke, almost out of food. My birthday breakfast is probably gonna be dry Honey Nut Cheerios and nothing else. No birthday cake or really anything to treat myself. No gifts. No party. Friends will all be at work on a Saturday. No kind of income, nobody showed any interest in me doing writing commissions.
The rest of my 35th birthday will be spent at home alone with my cats.
...So, this is what depression feels like.

My Father is Currently in the ICU
Posted a month agoHe started getting blood ulcers on his arms and legs the other day, and a blood blister in his mouth. The doctors say that if he so much as cuts his finger or falls and bumps his head, he would bleed out. His platelet count is only 1, when it should be between 150k to 450k. The blood ulcer that began in his mouth as a blood blister 48 hours ago has spread across the entire roof of his mouth and is bleeding profusely, and he has blood ulcers on both legs and both arms now. He's also got some internal bleeding.
They appeared two days ago or so as dark lesions, but weren't bleeding as such. He asked me about them the other day, at first thinking the ones on his legs were bug bites, such as chiggers. When more began appearing, I told him to go to the doctor. Yesterday morning he drove over to Ruth's (my paternal aunt), who then took him to the ER, where he was admitted immediately. He's now in the ICU being treated and will remain there until his platelet count rises back to normal.
If it doesn't, they'll send him to a blood specialist in Atlanta. That's everything I know at present.

Who'd be interested if I were to do writing commissions?
Posted 2 months agoSo, I'm in desperate need of income. Despite my slow typing speed and carpal tunnel syndrome, a lot of people I'm in contact with have complimented my writing, so would anybody actually be interested if I were to do writing commissions? These would include the typical kink and smut, of course, but could also include slice-of-life, romance, drama, comedy, sci-fi-fantasy, worldbuilding & lore, TTRPG campaign ideas and plot hooks, etc.
I'm just testing the waters for right now, but if enough people are interested, I'll work on a full-blown commission sheet with terms and conditions, etc. What I can say right now is that I will have payment plans for those like me who are struggling financially. I'm also testing Google Docs Voice Typing to try and help circumvent my chicken pecking typing and carpal tunnel. I can't say for sure what the turnaround speed would be, but suffice to say it would likely be a couple of weeks for me, with frequent breaks and doing household chores without Speech-To-Text.
Examples of my writing can be found in the description of the various pieces drawn by my soulmate
Spirit.Wolf. in my gallery. You can read my most recent work inspired by the Leo route of
EchoProject's visual novel Echo, by following the link below. This project is the longest piece of writing I have ever done, and took me just over a month to finish working on it in all my free time every day.

SCOTUS is Being Formally Petitioned to Overturn Gay Marriage
Posted 3 months agoAnd there it is.
https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/sup.....y?id=124465302
Kim Davis, the Christo-fascist bigot who got fired for breaking the law and refusing to sell marriage licenses to gay couples, has come forward to petition the Supreme Court to overturn their 2016 ruling regarding gay marriage and marriage equality.
I can still remember a handful of conservative Trump-supporting furries (some of whom are gay) telling me I was 'being hysterical' and that 'this wouldn't happen under Trump.' I'm very happy to say, "I fucking told you so."
So, how's having your face eaten by the leopards treating you, gay Trump voters?

Itch.io Delists NSFW & LGBT Games/VNs Under Legal Threat
Posted 3 months agoDo you enjoy furry visual novels like Echo and Adastra? Well, they've been delisted from itch.io, which is under pressure from payment processors like Visa and Mastercard to remove all NSFW content following collaborative censorship campaigns from a group of right-wing Christian fundamentalists based out of Australia, called Collective Shout.
https://itch.io/updates/update-on-nsfw-content
https://youtu.be/OiOnsLyaBM4?si=2bQ7fZj0QhfdisI9
In addition to over 20,000 games and visual novels with the NSFW tag, countless SFW LGBT games and VNs have also reportedly been removed with no explanation. These games are no longer downloadable, even if you have the direct link to them.
If this doesn't bother you, it should. Even if you don't care about or engage with adult content, the fact that they're also targeting SFW LGBT and furry content means that the conservative right is taking steps to begin our erasure from media under the guise of puritanism and 'protecting children.' It will not stop there. Emboldened by Trump, right-wingers are pushing to ban any media in which we are depicted. Countless books featuring LGBT characters have been banned in the United States already, and now right-wing organizations are pressuring payment processors to censor our media by claiming that it features CSAM.
I said this would happen the moment Trump 'won' the election. Websites like FA, SoFurry, and Weasyl will be next on the chopping block; they will not stop until they have erased us. If your political views consist of 'uwu no powitics,' you need to get your head out of your ass right now and start giving a shit because this affects all of us, including you. ICE is already kidnapping people of color and shipping them off to a concentration camp in Florida. How long before they start coming after LGBT people? What are you gonna do when they kick down your door and 'arrest' you at gunpoint? Timidly ask them not to be political?
MAKE YOUR VOICE HEARD before the conservative right has a chance to silence you for good. Collective Shout claims it only took around a thousand calls to make this happen. Make calls, sign petitions, your voice matters!
Personally, I think we should give the bigots a taste of their own medicine and push to have the Bible banned from sale, due to its depictions of pedophilia, rape, murder, slavery, and other content that is 'unsuitable for children.' Fight fire with fire.

Happy Valentines Day!
Posted 8 months agoEspecially to my very own forever Valentine,
 Spirit.Wolf.

Spirit.Wolf. Busy duma is tired + Uploads update.
Posted 9 months agoOn the 13th of January, my 81-year-old father went in for shoulder replacement surgery after damaging his rotator cuff. The good news is the surgery went fine and he's expected to make a full recovery. The bad news is that while he recovers, I once again have to take up all the household chores and tend to his needs, with zero help from the family because they apparently think I'm Jesus and can perform miracles. I spend most days so exhausted from cooking, cleaning, taking care of the furbabies, washing dishes (by hand, no dishwasher), and so on that I don't have the energy to do much other than play Marvel Rivals or watch YouTube and fall asleep.
I would like to write more but in addition to the exhaustive reality of being the only functioning adult in my house, I'm a slow typist, my desk is one of those terrible 2000s Ikea monstrosities with no legroom and a slide-out keyboard rest (meaning I have to lean forward and destroy my back to type), and typing for long periods gives me pain in my knuckles and fingers.
Spirit.Wolf. was able to churn out 7 pieces of art in less than a week, bless him, but I just couldn't keep up. So I'm thinking I'll post the pieces I haven't been able to write entire stories for and just summarize the context. Otherwise, it's just burning a hole in my hard drive.

Posted 10 months agoI really should post updates here more often.
So, my holiday season has been... Interesting. A couple weeks ago, I had indigestion so bad it was causing me chest pain and caused me to have a panic attack indistinguishable from a heart attack. I had multiple, but the worst one hand tingling and numbness in both my arms. My GP asked me to come in and have an EKG and blood lab after that one. Good news is I'm not dying. EKG is fine, so no heart attack, and blood lab results came back all good. My blood glucose was mildly elevated, but that's not something to be concerned with juuuust yet. High stress can elevate blood glucose, amongst other things.
While I haven't actually been diagnosed with it, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out I have pretty severe Gastroesophageal reflux disease, or GERD for short. I've had chronic anxiety and panic disorder for most of my life, so that's nothing new. I was on medication for that, first Paxil and then Lexapro, but they cause erectile dysfunction and prostate swelling, and I wasn't having that. As of now, I'm on two different kinds of reflux medication, one of which is a dissolvable tablet that forms a milky paste meant to coat my esophagus and stomach, and a regular one. I think the brand name is Prevacid.
I'm also on a new anxiety medication called Vibryd, which seems to be doing the job pretty well so far, without making me sad in the pants. Still not ready to go back out in public yet though. Had one panic attack at Walmart back on October 4th that was so bad it left me sitting on the floor with my back up against the end of the checkout conveyor for ten minutes. I don't relish the thought of all the stares from strangers again.
To top all of that off, though, a filling in a bottom molar on the right side of my mouth has come loose. Drinking water or eating/drinking anything cold causes excruciating pain, but the dentist's office won't return my emails and I guarantee it's because I don't have insurance. So I guess this loose filling is just something I have to live with and adapt to now. Yippee. 🙃

Bluesky & Trump Voters DNI
Posted 11 months agoI'm gonna be real, if you voted for Trump, block me now. I want nothing to do with you, I can't trust you, and I do not feel safe around you. I have nothing nice or good to say about you.
Does it upset you that your vote is causing so many family and friends to disassociate with you? Maybe you should have thought about that before voting for the adjudicated rapist and convicted felon who said, on camera, that he 'plans to be a dictator.' The man plans to attack my right to gay marriage, he plans to cut Social Security and Medicare. My father and I live off Social Security and I'm in medical debt already due to my gallbladder operation last year.
When that happens, your vote for the billionaire conman is going to leave my father and me homeless. Your vote will result in America becoming unsafe for me and my boyfriend, ensure that I won't be able to marry him within the next 4 years legally. Your vote will endanger education, it will end the Affordable Care Act. Your vote will endanger the majority of the LGBTQ+ community and the furry fandom.
You went against everything these communities stand for and represent. You've made your bed, now you get to sleep in it.
Also, the bird app is dead, so find me on the butterfly app instead. https://bsky.app/profile/jonthecaptive.bsky.social

IMPORTANT: Where To Find Me
Posted a year agoGiven Dragoneer's passing and the unfortunate reality of FA's financial troubles, it's a sad necessity for everyone to post their contact details. Fortunately, mine are easy. On FA, SoFurry, InkBunny, Weasyl, Twitter, and pretty much any other site, I go by JonTheCaptive. If I don't turn up in a search, I'm not on the site.
I've also been scrambling to create a Discord server for my watchers, fans, and friends. I will link to it here, and it's open to everyone. The link doesn't expire either. I hope to see you all there!

Rest In Power, Dragoneer
Posted a year agoAfter days/weeks trying to get a diagnosis for an unknown illness and racking up a $24k medical bill, FurAffinity's owner
 Dragoneer has sadly passed away.
FA and arguably the furry community wouldn't exist as it does now without him. I never knew him personally, but his impact on my life will be carried all my days. FA was an island in the storm for me, a safe haven to be myself when I was closeted. It was a sexual outlet for me when living in rural conservative America meant I grew up without any sexual education. It's where I met the love of my life, my soulmate,
 Spirit.Wolf.
FurAffinity has been such an integral and positive part of my life for the past 12 years, Dragoneer couldn't possibly understand how much he's done for me even though we never met or talked. I wish I could have gotten to know him as others in the community have.
I wish his soul a safe journey to whatever afterlife waits to welcome him.
'Do not stand at my grave and weep'

Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there. I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry;
I am not there. I did not die.

Let's talk about the dreaded P word: Politics.
Posted a year agoI'm gonna be real for a second. Politics fucking suck. They're a massive headache, largely boring, and can ruin your life. But they're a necessary evil. Like a lot of you, I joined the fandom as a sexual outlet. I needed one because I live with my conservative father in the Tri-state area of Alabama, Georgia, and Tennessee, the unholy trinity of Bible-thumping anti-LGBTQ hell. I was bullied viciously in school because of a rumor that I was gay, and until I was 26 (which if I were guaranteed to live to the age of 100 would be an entire fourth of my whole life), I was terrified of being my genuine self out of fear of persecution.
For the longest time, I just wanted to ignore politics and enjoy myself when I could, which was entirely here in the furry fandom. But the reality is life always has the potential to be better, and for everyone that means action, not apathy. Sure, I'm here to get my rocks off as much as anybody else, but the Republican right wants to ban and criminalize porn. Back in March 2024 they already tried legislating PornHub away, and they're actively banning LGBTQIA books from school libraries and soon-to-be public libraries. This time last year, a Republican anti-porn bill was blocked from the Senate floor on the grounds it violated the US First Amendment protecting free speech.
This isn't propaganda or hyperbole, you can look these facts up on Google right now. Of course, there are also the anti-LGBTQ bills Republicans actively try to pass each year, as well as laws passed by Republican governors at the state level. One you've probably heard about is Florida's infamous "Don't Say Gay" bill, which required teachers to out children to their parents by law. It's not the only such law, just the one with the most media coverage.
Burying your head in the sand or plugging your ears and going 'la la la' won't help you, save you, or make life better for you. The Right Wing wants to legislate us out of existence, and Trump's presidential campaign is actively promising to roll back hate speech protections, the Equality Act, and marriage equality.
Most disturbingly, I've personally experienced people in this very fandom regurgitating Right Wing rhetoric, including an individual who was using Christianity to justify internalized homophobia and trying to get people to repress their identity because 'being gay is a sin' and other such damaging rubbish. I lived that lie for 25 years of my life, I will not stand by and let harmful rhetoric hurt other people. I'm not going to be quiet in the face of social injustice, especially when I have suffered it.
The same should be true for everyone else. Your life matters, you are valid, and you were born the way you are. God doesn't make mistakes, you should not have to live your life in fear of persecution or in fear of having your inalienable rights infringed. Gay marriage wasn't legal in the US on a federal level until 2016, when I turned 26. I'll be damned if I'm going to just fap to my furry porn and let people who hate me take the right to marry the man I love away from me.
Remember that your voice matters and you have a say in all this. If nothing else, at the very least make sure you vote this November.

My father is in the hospital. Need help.
Posted 2 years agoTwo days ago, unbeknownst to me, my father went outside to burn a brush pile in the front yard. While chatting with friends about Baldur's Gate 3, I heard him shout my name from outside. In the time it took me to reach the front door, his jeans were engulfed in flames and the fire was rapidly spreading across the yard due to it being windy. Without thinking, I reached out and pulled off his jeans, then grabbed a bucket full of rainwater by the porch steps and doused them. His socks and boots were on fire too though. I managed to get his left boot off, but his right leg had swollen so much and the boot was so hot to the touch I couldn't pull it off. It needed to be cut off with a knife.
The fire spread quickly and out of control, coming within spitting distance of the house as well as our Chevy Trailblazer, our only means of transport. It was also dangerously close to spreading to a nearby field. Using a bucket of water and our garden hose I was able to stop the fire from spreading any further toward the house. The rest Dad helped me stomp out, since the garden hose couldn't reach.
Click Here to see pictures of the aftermath.
Dad's currently in a burn ward somewhere down near Atlanta. He requires two surgeries, may lose the entire heel of his right foot, and needs skin grafts taken from his thighs. It's estimated to be a week, maybe two before he'll be able to come home, and more than a few months before he'll be able to walk.
We're already about $10k in medical debt due to my gallbladder surgery back in October, and being disabled and unable to drive it'll be difficult for me to shop for groceries and take care of other expenses. We would appreciate it greatly if anyone who's able could donate money to help us. I would greatly appreciate it, especially as my father recovers and I take on all of his responsibilities.
Thank you,
Jon

Surgery was a success!
Posted 2 years agoHad my gall bladder removal surgery and I'm back home safe. Sore, exhausted, lost my voice a little bit, having a bit of trouble peeing, and it hurts like hell when I laugh or cough. But the surgery went well. I'll be recovering for a couple of weeks at least, so I probably won't be around much until early November. I also can't fap for a couple weeks, ironically.
But, the hard part is over, provided no complications turn up.

Surgery on Oct. 11th
Posted 2 years agoSo, I went to visitation with my surgeon, Dr. Kennedy, today. I gave him a rundown of all my symptoms and the attacks I've had the past three months, plus my family history of gallbladder disease. My mom had it, my aunt Mary Lou had it, my uncle Tom (yes I had an uncle named Tom at one point) had it, and his gallbladder had become gangrenous. Several of my friends have had it. Even the clerk at my GP's office has had it. 8th most common surgery in the US.
After evaluation, he gave me the rundown of the surgery. All this is straight from the doc's mouth. It'll be laparoscopic, with the camera probe. It's pretty quick and non-invasive, and it's considered an outpatient surgery so I'll be free to go home the same day. They avoid open surgery unless it becomes necessary due to things like fluid buildup, etc.
I will need to be given anesthesia, which can potentially cause stress to my cardiac and respiratory systems, and it can potentially react with medications. I'll be receiving calls from the Pretesting Office over the next few days to give them this and any other required information. So, I may need to step away during D&D, etc.
The procedure itself is scheduled to take place on **Wednesday, October 11th, 2023** at 8:00 am though I'll need to get there at about 6:30 for pre-surgery preparation. The procedure typically takes 1-2 hours barring any complications, so I'll likely be home again by noon, though I may fall asleep at home due to the anesthesia.
Blood clots are a potential complication, which can dislodge and cause embolisms that can potentially be fatal. As a result I'll be required to get up and walk around every hour for a few weeks after the surgery. This shouldn't affect D&D as I'll be on my tablet but I may be unable to play multiplayer video games for a few weeks.
There are other possible complications, but they only have a 1% chance of occurring. But, that's the long and short of it.

Level up! Duma is now Level 33 - 9/27/2023
Posted 2 years agoI turn 33 today. I've got a follow-up appointment with my GP on my birthday, but after that, I'll be going to pick up a custom cookie cake from Great American Cookies. The next day I'll be going to see the surgeon I was referred to about the operation to remove my gallbladder. I'm not sure if they'll do the procedure that day, or if they're just going to give me the talk and some instructions to follow for another week.
Personally, I'd rather they just get it over with. But if I get another week or so before the procedure, I can't complain much. I'll at least be able to run and play in my current D&D/Tabletop campaigns, and that's more time to play Starfield. We'll have to see how things go.

Gallbladder Surgery & Birthday
Posted 2 years agoBack home safe for now. Turns out there was a miscommunication with the surgeon's office, it's not THIS Thursday but NEXT Thursday. So I'm fine to play in TTRPGs until then. I have an appointment with my GP on my birthday, the 27th, then I see the surgeon the next day.
On the bright side, I was able to stop in at Great American Cookies and order a custom birthday cookie cake for myself to be picked up on the 27th. That'll be a lovely birthday treat for myself since I won't be allowed to have anything sweet for weeks after the surgery.
Our healthcare system is such a mess. We got a call from CHI Memorial while we were out of the house, and I called them back thinking it had to do with this confounded surgery. It was actually from their business division, calling to discuss a payment plan for the ultrasound I had to get to discover the gallstones causing me attacks. Financial assistance did help and we only have to pay $275 which I chose to settle in three monthly payments of $82.
Spoke on the phone with a woman with a very thick Hispanic accent. After some rigmarole I came to find out they'd opened another account for me for the gallbladder attack I went to the ER for back in July, and that they had spelled my address with two n's instead of two r's (like HOW?).
As for the surgery itself, here is everything I know:
The gallbladder is a non-vital pear-shaped organ in our upper right abdomen that stores bile, a digestive fluid produced by the liver. Gallstones are rocks that form from cholesterol and a chemical called bilirubin in the bile the liver makes. The stones are stored in the gallbladder and are often too small to cause problems. But larger stones, sometimes as big as golf balls, can block ducts and cause painful attacks that can lead to needing surgery.
The most common procedure for gallbladder removal is laparoscopic surgery, where a few small incisions are made and the surgeon uses a camera probe and microtools to remove the gallbladder. This takes around one or two hours. I'll be able to go home the day of or the day after this procedure, but I won't be able to resume normal activity until about two weeks after the surgery.
For whatever reason, the surgeon may opt to do open surgery, which means they'll make a 6-inch incision in my abdomen to perform the removal. This will again take 1-2 hours, but I won't be able to leave the hospital for just under a week, and recovery could take as long as an entire month. Regardless, after the procedure, I'll be on a very strict diet and I will not be allowed to eat anything spicy, nor will I be allowed to eat any kind of dairy product from yogurt to cheese. I also won't be allowed to eat certain things that cause gas, such as broccoli or bananas.
I also won't be able to indulge in any sexual activity for at least two weeks.

In desperate need of financial aid!
Posted 3 years agohttps://gofund.me/7f4d8618
I've started a GoFundMe because I've finally reached my ultimate point of desperation. I'm disabled and living with my 78-year-old father Walter, who has just been diagnosed with malignant melanoma and has started taking radiation treatments as of August 4th. While he does have Medicare, he still has to pay so much copay per month.
Within the last few months I've also had some health scares that required visits to the ER, most notably in June I collapsed in the bathroom floor and began exhibiting signs of a seizure, though as it turns out I just experienced something called a Vagal Syncope. Unlike my father, I have no health insurance.
We do have life insurance and cancer policies from Liberty National, but they've steadily risen in price over the last five years. The life Insurance policy was $180 per month, now it's $350 per month. This isn't helped by the recent economic crises the US has been faced with, where fuel has risen to $6-$10 per gallon and food and water have gone up significantly in price.
Our last and only hope is the kindness of strangers.
Our cost of living has exceeded our monthly income, we're in deep medical debt, and now due to overdraft fees, we're now deep in financial debt. We started the month of August with only $230 in our checking account, which isn't enough to even cover our telecom bill or our monthly groceries. We've had to start collecting food from our local food bank and supplement our diets with multivitamins.
And that's not counting the food and other things we need for our pets, two dogs, and multiple cats. It's gotten so bad we've had to start rationing food for them, and we've had to stop buying litter for the cats in favor of just sand and soil from our own yard, which isn't helping sanitation.
None of our relatives or family friends can afford to provide any financial aid, as many are recovering from COVID and are also paying off steep medical bills.
With the funds we hopefully receive from people like you, we hope to cancel out our debt and return to some form of financial stability to avoid our home being repossessed or possibly worse.
It would mean the world to both of us.
