Posted 13 years agoSo I just realized that I was in the general path of the storm but didn't let people how how I was doing unless they asked individually. So here's my report: Pretty much NOTHING.
About 1 week and 30 minutes ago from the time I started writing this, I arrived back home early from FurFright due to concerns about the storm. (Yes I arrived just before 9PM that night). Other than that being a downer, we were VERY lucky. 0 hours of power outages and no flooding here. My computer was on all night, so I'd have known if the power went off overnight. The closest it came to powering off was a flicker that caused my monitor to reset itself. VERY lucky.
The office I sometimes work from was also spared, which is EXTREMELY crazy. 10 years ago, the block it was on had wiring SO BAD that if you looked at it the wrong way we would lose power. Going 2 months without a power loss was a LONG time. Horrible considering both that it's a software consulting firm (so HEAVY computer usage) and that next door was the TOWNSHIP HQ.
Anyway... the basement of that building was also prone to getting water often, even during a normal amount of rain that was around 1" or more. This seems to have somehow fixed itself over the years. This time, we just got a small amount of dampness in a few spots, which is par for the course now.
We. Got. Lucky. Many of my friends did not. I know a few people who STILL don't have power. Yeesh.
But yes if you're wondering, we're fine. A few lights that blinked and a few twigs that landed on a shed in our back yard. And a bunch of leaves everywhere.

FurFright room
Posted 13 years agoI'm not entirely sure if I do have a room for the con or not so putting out some feelers for now. Looking for a room from Thursday to Sunday with 3 other people in it preferably in the main hotel. Lemme know if you can help :3

Posted 13 years agoYep. 32.
I am not Mystery Otter!
Posted 13 years agoSeriously why would you even think that?
We Love Pop'n Music~
Posted 13 years agoSo next week at AnthroCon, my setup for Pop'n Music will be in the video game room. If you were at Furstivus, you may recall seeing it there. It's going to be even better this time around! At least one surprise if not two.
Never played before? Who cares! Give it a try anyway!

Ride to AC (reposting)
Posted 13 years agoSo far I've got a room already. Sounds like it's full. So if you're looking for one, sorry, probably can't help!
I have to plan on getting there. Mostly thinking of taking the train again, but might want to go for a ride instead. However, I usually bring a LOT of stuff with me. Hockey bag for 2 fursuits and various other items, backpack for some games, suit case for mostly clothing, and a duffle bag for some other miscellaneous items.
Anyway, my problem is two fold: 1) So much stuff and 2) A Wednesday arrival pretty much limit me to somebody driving practically by themselves or with very little luggage as is.
But if anybody passing by/through Philly going to AC manages to fit the criteria of having plenty of luggage space (and I mean PLENTY) and a Wednesday to Monday con, let me know soon!

Why there is (still) a Fursuit Mature category
Posted 13 years agoIt's because they're too fucking lazy to remove it!
I'm dead fucking serious. Prove me wrong.

Local fur in need of a lot of help
Posted 13 years agoI recently got word that
wolf-max had a very unfortunate tragedy Saturday. He was at work and a fire started at his house. He's lost the house, a lot (if not all) of his property that wasn't in his car at the time and worst of all, he lost his mother to the fire.
http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/3342727/
He's got a lot of work ahead for him. Finding a new place, replacing his property, contacting insurance to help him out. The red cross has helped out a little so at least he has food and shelter and clothing. I personally cannot do much to help, but I am posting this to help spread the word about this so that those who can help might be able to offer their help.

AnthroCon planning (looking for potential rides)

Blackberry board of directors must consist of lawyers
Posted 13 years agoUpon getting a Blackberry Playbook free for following this special offer involving porting an app to the Playbook OS 2.0, I unfortunately received a unit that had a dead USB port. Due to this, I've found that Blackberry is like SUPER legal. Here's a run down of legal related things they've asked of me:
- Send a copy of my personal ID or business document (tax ID or registration document or some such) upon trying to register as a developer (joke's on them I never sent it lolol)
- Agree to TOS stuff to be a developer (completely normal)
- Agree to TOS when starting up the device (sorta normal. Not seen it much for devices, but installing software or first runs of software)
- Agree to a SEPARATE TOS for receiving support for the broken device (ok guess that's like registering it?)
- Agree to ANOTHER TOS when I'm about to RMA it (ok what the fuck guys?)
- Receive a TOS type sheet in the packaging they sent me to return my device (...)
- Receive a document that MUST be included as part of the package stating that lithium ion batteries are considered non-hazardous materials (ok what the fuck guys?)
So yeah what the fuck Blackberry? I know you're mostly corporate but GOD DAMN!

Go watch Scurrow!
Posted 13 years agoSo
scurrow is a crazy crazy guy but he's awesome like that. He draws some toony stuff that... well you just gotta see for yourself to understand. But he's also got this thing going on where he posts photos after he's reached X00 watchers. A week ago or so he posted a probably belated 900 watcher photo. He's up to 977 as I write this.
If you've seen the stuff he's gotten in the past you KNOW he's gonna do something crazy for 1000! So I say: check out what he's got and if you like it, go watch him!

Off to work!
Posted 13 years agoBeen a while since I could say this, but I'm off to work! It's not permanent, but it's nearly full time. Should be 8 hours 4 days a week doing some development for a website. Leaving in about 5 minutes to head over. Best part is that it's my old work place so it's a 5 minute walk to get there.
Anne Throw Kahn
Posted 13 years agoI plan on being there with
orion-j and we have a two double bed room in the Westin. We'll be there WEDNESDAY to Monday. Looking for 2 maybe 3 others. If anybody's interested in rooming with us, having a total of 4 in the room and staying the entire time would mean a $200 split, and 5 in the room would mean a $160 split.
I'm going to be bluntly honest and say: This isn't exactly a first come first serve request thing at the moment; there's those that watch me that me and Orion may know very well and would be very happy to have room with us. But there's also folks that we might not know at all, or that we might just not trust.
But if you missed booking a room, didn't plan on booking your own, or just otherwise want a room for AC and want to room with us, leave a comment!

Furstivus request
Posted 14 years agoIf anybody is going to Furstivus, I'm hoping that somebody can bring a pair of computer speakers, preferably powered ones. I'm bringing my PC into the game room for a music game that will run on PC, but one of my speakers is dead, so I'd prefer to have working speakers for the event.
Looking for furstivus roommates!
Posted 14 years agoMe and
orion-j are going to be rooming together at Furstivus on Friday and Saturday night. But we're looking for a couple of others to room with us for costs and all that. Anybody going looking for a room?

Work!
Posted 14 years agoI just got told by a client that they're accepting a preliminary proposal for some work! And I helped setup the meeting so I'll be getting a finder's fee for all of this too on top of the work. It won't be permanent work, but it will mostly be full time and probably start right after the new year.

Momcanihaveacookie? Momcanihaveacookie? Momcanihaveacookie?
Posted 14 years agoSo I personally don't care that there's those tracking cookies on the site. I probably have a shit load from other sites. Whatever. HOWEVER, that doesn't mean I disagree about the complaint from many people. For those that think others are wrong, I ask you this:
Assuming that there wasn't already other privacy issues and tracking cookies and such on Facebook, and assuming you're on Facebook, if they did the exact same thing, would you be concerned with them? It was a change to the privacy that was not properly documented. There's some weird ass laws out there related to these kinds of things.
Oh and please don't say "I don't use facebook". That's out of the scope of this journal. K? K.

Irene stuff
Posted 14 years agoWe got very lucky here. Power stayed on, all utilities are ok. The only downed tree I saw for myself was one that doesn't look like a whole tree but just a large limb that's 1/2 a block down the road. Just a really really long night.
Team Fortress Birthday!

Ponies
Posted 14 years agoI've not watched them. I'm not planning to any time soon (partially because I mostly dislike shows with very childish singing involved fairly often). However:
I wasn't terribly happy with seeing so many MLP stuff on FA and all over. Then I realized how dumb that is coming from a furry. "Don't hate on what I'm liking but WAAAAAAH YOUR THING SUCKS WAAAAAH GET IT AWAY". Yeah doesn't exactly make much sense. I guess some people feel that it's "invading" but whatever. It's practically the same thing. It's no god damn different than people loving Sonic or Pokemon (PS don't shove any of those down my throat either)

New AUP
Posted 14 years agoAs a person who does enjoy seeing such photos...
I approve of this AUP. Why? Because this is primarily an art site. There's different forms of art, sure. There's also adult art on here. But overall, adult or mature photography is out of the scope of this site. Would it be nice if we could post it? Sure. I faved plenty of those photos! I'll miss them. But it really is out of the scope of THIS site when you think about it.
...WITH THAT SAID...
There's a very good possibility by the end of the year, I'll be helping to start a new (read: OH GOD, ANOTHER?!) gear type site. One that will be aimed at furries. So a lot of this content that is going to leave here would be quite welcome there.
