We had lots of fun playing a bunch of 80s music and some original pieces.
Eurofurence 23, or a con spent with music
General | Posted 8 years agoI'm back home from Eurofurence. I had a huge blast!
I got to play on stage with
PepperCoyote,
FoxAmoore,
garra and Teddy (FA?) both in the main concert and the charity concert, as well as a couple of songs during the AD concert on the open stage.
This meant I had a very different con from most of the attendees - I spent almost all my time either setting up, playing, rehearsing, or packing away instruments. It was awesome.
All that hard work rehearsing the songs before the con really did pay off. Playing these concerts was a bit of a high reach for me - I only have 4 years of experience playing bass, and I'm just a hobbyist. So I'm extremely happy with the end result. I may link you to a few YT videos as soon as they're officially up.
The only downside was I didn't have much time to spend with my husband and my other friends, but there was no way I was going to pass up this opportunity!

EF 19 - it's not the same - if you have a fursuit
General | Posted 12 years agoThis was Eurofurence 19 for me:
* Arrived as one of the first staffers on Monday around noon. Spent the rest of the day helping with setup.
* Pranced through the lobby in my fursuit early in the morning on Tuesday before we had to open registration.
* Watched the Maritim slowly change from a business hotel to a convention hotel through the course of Tuesday.
* Again got into suit in the afternoon. Got to make fun of a group of business people who tried very hard to pretend there wasn't a black squirrel looking at them, much to the amusement of some other non-furs who seemed to have a sense of humor left.
* Was awed on Tuesday evening when registration stats told me over 1000 furs had arrived on the early arrival day. Total attendance was around 1350 btw. I propose calling Tuesday "regular arrival" and Wednesday "late arrival" next year.
* Sadly had to miss the fursuiting event at the Magdeburg zoo because I didn't want to be unavailable to registration for so long.
* Fun with fursuiting trackleads who didn't know who was in that black squirrel fursuit. Or maybe they just played along?
* Attended the opening ceremonies. Thank you all for keeping the talks short and to the point this time. Great video showing off the new con hotel in Berlin.
* Nearly passed out while dancing through the shopping mall in fursuit. It was too hot in there, but they pledged money for our lovely charity in return for a dancing fursuits flashmob. What's getting a little hot compared to saving the lives of countless wild animals?
* Slept in on Thursday, barely made it to the registration team photo shoot. Then found out only Wolffire was awake, the whole rest of the team had overslept or forgotten about it. So no photo.
* Got into suit and returned to the photo set, this time to have Hitch's photo taken.
* Had a look through the dealers' den, but didn't buy much, just some of TaniDaReal's coasters and a few prints.
* Helped set up and enjoyed SnuggleBunny's fursuit piano play event. Next time we need lyrics sheets!
* Next up: Kage's story hour. Laughed hysterically at the brony story.
* Hitch got his photo taken again. Only this time, there were 600 other fursuits there with him.
* Danced for almost 3 hours in the fursuit friendly dance. If I ever get into a coke speed drinking contest, this is what I'll do right before it. I didn't know it was possible to down half a gallon of coca cola in just a few minutes.
* Slept in on Friday and woke up with a hangover, although I only had one single beer the evening before. My body still wanted lots of water.
* Went to the Mongrels behind the stage SIG run by the two Guests of Honor (two puppeteers from BBC's hit television show "Mongrels").
* Took a look around the art show trying to decide what to bid on. In the end I only won a single piece.
* The Fursuit Parade, also known as "Denial of Service Attack on Magdeburg Traffic" by fursuiters. There were about 500 fursuiters and perhaps 500 other convention guests, but the real jaw-dropper were the 6000 non-furs who had come to see the parade. In the end the police blocked a major street for us and told our security to just handle the fursuiters. Thanks to the city of Magdeburg!
* Found out the artshow closing was scheduled directly after the end of the fursuit parade. Decided against going there all sweaty.
* Waited too long for food at the steak house.
* Ran to be on time for Furry Karaoke in the piano bar. They were a bit short on equipment, so I brought some of my personal stuff (mixer, microphones and cabling). As we learned at Confuzzled it's really important that the audience can read the lyrics so they can sing along, so we had a projector and a screen. A very drunk Uncle Kage tried to sing ("Hello Youtube") to raise money for our charity.
* Got up and got right into suit for the group photo on Saturday.
* Art auction bidding seemed a bit slow this year. Much of the bidding must have gone on in the art show before the auction: I am told the total turnout is still a convention record.
* Hitch, my black squirrel, got to sit on the floor in front of the audience at the charity concert with FoxAmoore, Dreamsong and garra. He tells me he really enjoyed it.
* And finally, the pawpet show, this time with original soundtrack composed by FoxAmoore. They've outdone themselves! That underwater scene was incredible. Floating fish, floating bubbles, how the hell do you do that on a live puppet stage?
All in all, I had a blast at Eurofurence. And this journal has gotten too long already so I'll stop now.
See you all next year in Berlin!

Sure.
Are you buying art?
Possible, if a particular piece strikes my fancy.

Try not to be too drunk. Don't blow cigarette smoke at me, especially when I'm in suit.

Berlicon
General | Posted 12 years agoWell, what can I say, Berlicon is over and I had a blast.
If only the mosquito hordes of doom hadn't been there (but this is to be expected at an outdoor site), it would have been a perfect convention for me.
Thanks to all the organizers!

Confuzzled 2013 was fun!
General | Posted 12 years agoMy, what an adventure. I've just returned home from Confuzzled. I had a blast.
Highlights for me:
+ Meeting new and old friends and making a few new ones, too
+ fun at Karaoke with
renech and a Kazoo, and being impressed by
jesslyra's performance.
+ watching all the pretty fursuiters (at least the ones that knew how to keep their head on)
+ the
savannah_revolution concert
+ the wonderful sunny weather in Britain, while back at home there were reports of flooding
+ car and ferry ride together with my friends all through the night and into the sunrise
+ taking photos of the white cliffs of Dover from the ferry
+ the friendly staff at the Hinckley Island Hotel and their cute T-Shirt
And these are just the highlights. There were a lot more fun things I did, and the convention went by way too fast.
I'll try to be back next year!

EF18 was a blast!
General | Posted 13 years agoI had so much fun at EF. Got a copy of "The Last Unicorn" and had it signed by the guest of honor. Played in a live rock concert. Got smashingly drunk. Met friends. Such an awesome con.
Back from vacation
General | Posted 15 years agoAhh, the Greek isles.
Sun, a swimming pool, and a quiet week on Rhodes Island were just what I needed.
Up next: EF.

Furry musician or composer who could use this?
General | Posted 15 years agoI've recently updated my music making setup along with getting a new computer and switching to Windows 7. I'm now exclusively using my Fireface audio interface, it's new and has very crisp sound, and it's portable.
This leaves me with some spare professional grade audio hardware. 8 years old, yes, but in working condition.
- emagic unitor 8 USB midi interface (8 in, 8 out)
- MoTu 1224 24 bit 48 kHz 12 channel audio interface (8 analog in, 8 analog out, AES/EBU in/out, headphones) with PCI card
All these are known to work under Windows XP 32bit, I have never tried them with any modern OS. Since emagic has since been acquired by Apple, Windows driver support is a little spotty.
Why am I writing about this? I could put the devices on eBay, where given their age and condition they might gain me a few euros.
But perhaps there is a young, budding furry composer or musician out there who'd love to have such a setup and could never dream of affording it at this time. For that, I'm willing to give them away. I could either bring them to Eurofurence or MMC, or ship the devices, in which case the new owner will need to cover shipping cost.
If you know a furry musician or composer who could use them, please point them to my livejournal posting:
http://tchk.livejournal.com/21476.html
PLEASE COMMENT ON LIVEJOURNAL, not here. Thank you.
Update: the decision has been made. If you took the time to go to lj and comment, thank you. I wasn't even aware of some of the musicians who did, so I got an unexpected boon out of my posting. I'll be getting in touch with each of you, although I can only give the hardware to one, and it's a tough decision.
