General | Posted 15 years agoFiiiiiinallyyyyyyy, I have Monster Hunter Tri. And lo, it is good.
My online ID is B4D8VJ. Add meeeeee~. I probably won't do any online quests until I've killed Naval Deus, though. I used to make a point of not even doing any online quests until I had solo'd them myself, but I think I'm gonna be more lax about it now that I have a lot more people than just my RL friends to play with.
I'm just gonna make a list of my impressions of the game so far and changes I've noticed from previous MH games. I'll try to keep it short, but I'm a fucking nerd, so it will be tl;dr.
- Disc channel music is the MH theme. Expected, of course, but it still made me smile~.
- 6 files; 3 characters each file. I have no idea why I would need this many, but it's nice to have~.
- You can have 6 different online IDs. This is relevant to me because now I can play with furries and my RL friends who don't know I draw furry porn (and I would like to keep things that way~.)
- MH Tri is uncensored by default, but you have the option to set the settings to Mild if you want, as opposed to previous North American releases where it was always only ever Mild.
- There are a lot more options in character customization now. Not on the level of something like Mass Effect, but it's still nice to have more things to choose from. I will be making an Elvisquall character later. :V
- This game actually has a bit of a story to it. Moreso than "i got beat up by a tigrex. i want to beat up dat tigrex." at least. It's not going to win any awards here, but does a good job of immersing you in the world more than just plopping you down and going "do quests now." In fact, you can't even do any official quests until after the first hour of gameplay.
- Lagiacrus is the new Tigrex, who was the new Rathalos, I guess. :O
- You can go between the village and the first map (Moga Woods / D. Island) at will. No need to sign up for a quest. Later on you can also return to Moga Village with a menu option instead of running back. This makes it a lot more convenient than doing gathering quests.
- After returning from Moga Woods, you can report your kills to the village chief's son. This, in addition to account items, gives you resources you can use to meet villager requests. This helps you feel a lot more involved in the village itself, as opposed to how detached everything was in past games.
- The village chief's son can also give you a 3-day forecast of expected resource and monster conditions in the woods. Days pass in halves as you complete quests or go into and return from Moga Woods.
- The farm works a little bit differently now, and can hoard resources that it automatically gathers for you for up to 3 half-day cycles. This means you only have to check in on your farm every 3 quests if you sign up for the full 3-day cycles rather than checking in on it after each one.
- There is a Fishing Fleet now, which I'm guessing replaces the old net casting machine and fishing docks of the old farm. You can direct them to go finish in one of the outlying seas and depending on the conditions and where you sent them, they will come back with an assortment of goods, mostly fish. They can give you suggestions on where would be a good place to go for a plentiful catch.
- There is also a trade ship captain who visits every once in a while and stays in port for a few days. You can trade commodities with him for goods not available otherwise. While the trade ship is in port, select goods from the item shopkeeper are reduced in price.
- Jaggis are really cute~
- I KO'd a Jaggi... with a Sword and Shield
- The weapons seem to have updated moves. The button that used to be mapped to the circular swing for Sword and Shield is now a Soul Calibur-style shield bash. This can KO monsters like the Hammer used to be exclusively able to. Not sure if it will work on wyverns as well, though. I've only really used SnS so far, so I'm not sure about anything else.
- In fact, you seem to need to KO Kelbis in one quest in order to carve off their horns. Not sure if you can carve the horns if you simply kill them.
- The new torch item is pretty cool. It lights up dark areas and wards off monsters who are afraid of fire. The only ones I've encountered so far are Giggis which look like tiny Khezu slugs.
- I accidentally smacked a Felyne with my torch. Now they are after meeeee~.
- "You're more tenacious than a Kelbi in heat!" UHHHHHHHH
- SUDDENLY LAGIACRUS. That made me shit bricks.
- I've played the game for a few hours already and have been spending so much time doing tasks for the villagers, farming resources, and hunting preys, (Jaggi et. al) that I've almost forgotten this game is really about 30 minute life-or-death struggles against giant monsters.
- Instead of buying Monster Info books, you now have to drag the monster you want reference material about into your hunter's notebook with the Wiimote to log it.
- This game is much more approachable and beginner-friendly than past MH games. They ease you in slowly and in a much more engaging way than the "figure-it-out-yourself" style of the PSP MHs. The fact that villagers talk to you while you are undergoing quests and during the tutorial phase is a nice touch.
- You can now use mining pickaxes and bugnets by pressing the carving/gathering button instead of having the item selected (although you can still do that.) Using them in this way makes you use the lowest quality pickaxe/bugnet first which is easy on your inventory space.
- Resource nodes now vanish completely (except for mining cracks) when they run dry. You can no longer waste pickaxe/bugnet durability on empty nodes or attempt to gather only to be told nothing's there.
- It appears that you have two different "pouches", which are basically your 3 page item inventories. One for blademaster and one for gunner. This means that you no longer have to go through the annoying task of rearranging your inventory everytime you switch between the two. Now I won't have to worry about forgetting to bring my whetstones with me when I switch from gunner to blademater. :V
- You can now save item combinations to a shortcut list. This will be very helpful to gunners who have to combine to make more ammo on the fly, and to everyone in general with things like making additional flash bombs.
- You have to assemble bowguns from three different parts you have to create now instead of just forging the whole weapon in one go.
- Saving and loading is much faster than in PSP MHs.
- Swimming controls are pretty intuitive but still take a moment to get used to. Underwater combat is a little cumbersome, but it's just one of those things that you just need to get used to, I think. Otherwise, I'm gonna really hate Lagiacrus. :X
- There is an oxygen meter, but it depletes reeeeaally slowly, thankfully. And there are multiple ways to refill it.
- There are subquests, which are like secondary objects, for each quest. Fulfilling them gives you additional rewards AND additional supplies delivered to your supply box.
- The environments are beautiful. I love coastal villages, which is why I was always partial to Chrono Cross. But there are all sorts of nice little touches, like shooting stars in the night sky.
- My only real complaint with this game is the new BBQ spit cooking voice. It's really awful.

Put More Stories on the Front Page [Read This Please]

"It's hard for writers to get watchers. The audience is small enough to begin with, and the medium itself means that a person must sit down and commit to a piece in the time a person could have browsed dozens of new images.
FA writers work hard on their craft, and the products are as vivid and engaging as anything else put out on this site. But FA doesn't seem to want to support writers. After years of asking, even common documents don't show up in browser. It's difficult to browse an author's work in their gallery. And perhaps worst of all, writers are given half the space on the front page that artists get. The amount of clicks necessary to get even one person to read a story the whole way through, let alone comment or fav, it's no wonder that few people feel intrigued by composing or posting written work on FA.
I've suggested over at the FA Forums, among other things, that the front page be expanded to include eight stories at one time. It's really a rather simple request. Shouldn't be too hard to program. Won't interfere with anything. And it will give authors twice the exposure to potential readers before falling off the front page. Most importantly, it may begin to send a message to FA's writing community that they are not always second behind the concerns of FA's artists.
If you support this, please pop over to the thread and voice it. Then repost this journal and demand that FA do more to increase the exposure of its writing community!"
I want to take this opportunity to link to some of the writers I'm currently watching on FA that you should check out if you're so inclined~.

WIFI HELP~
General | Posted 15 years agoOkay, so I finally got a copy of Soul Silver, yay~. But, when I went ahead and tried to get my DS to connect to Nintendo's WiFi, I realized that my router was set to WPA, not WEP. I read some shitty, vague instructions online that told me to switch to a WEP connection, which made me promptly lose all internet connection, which unfortunately was required for my router configuration thingy. I know shit all about networking and routers, so I was kinda panicking, considering my only resource for help with these kinds of things was the internet, and that was kind of gone. :X
Even though I entered the WEP keys and stuff in properly when I edited the wireless network connection properties, I lost all network connections for a good 15 minutes, after which things started to magically work again. UNTIL THEN I WAS FREAKING THE FUCK OUT, THOUGH. ;O; Thought I tooootally fucked everything up~. SO ANYWAYS, after all that, I find out my DS still won't connect, because I was on an open WEP thing, rather than a shared, or something? I'm not entirely sure, but that's what Googling told me. Anyways, I didn't wanna keep messing around with shit, since I was scared of making everything go to hell again because of my cluelessness, so I set everything back to the way things were before I started, WPA 'n all.
Because of that, I doooon't wanna touch my router anymore. Does anyone know of any good alternatives that I can use to get my DS online? I'm wondering if a WiFi MAX would solve my problems, as well as let me play my PSP online with other dudes, but I'm not sure if it'll work the way I'm hoping it to. (i.e. provide a separate WEP WiFi connection that my DS can hop onto without me having to change any of my router settings.)
TL;DR: NOT TOUCHING ROUTER EVER AGAIN. WiFi MAX = GOOD ALTERNATIVE? PLZ TELL

Need Help Finding a Video D:
General | Posted 16 years agoYeeeeaaars ago I remember watching this one video of a chimpanzee going to a store with another animal by themselves. It's been a while so I can't be too sure on many details, but I thiiiiink it was a Japanese show, and the animal the chimp was with was either a pig or a dog on a leash, and I think they were going grocery shopping.
At this point, I'm preeeetty sure it's from an episode of Pan-kun, but I can't find the one I'm thinking of. Does anyone have any idea what I'm talking about and know where to find it? :S Not sure what suddenly reminded me of it, but now I want to rewatch again pretty badly. :o

Monster Hunter Tri NA + EU Servers Separate
General | Posted 16 years agoIt hadn't occurred to me until now, but I couldn't find any definitive answers as to whether NA and EU players will be able to connect to each other in Monster Hunter Tri. I ended up posting in the Ask Capcom forum at Capcom Unity and was given the following answer by one of the mods:
"NA and Europe will have different servers.
The game disc will decide what you connect to (via region on disc and code)
*ahem*
I can't say go mod your Wii to play that region, ....
But if you did pick up PAL version of MH Tri, you'd be able to play with them and vice-versa but Wii is region locked, and no one here can help ya with that. =("
So, uh, fuck. I know there are a few European guys I was planning on playing with, so in case this is gonna make you change your mind on picking up the game, just letting you know now. :X

The release date was announced at Nintendo's media summit in San Francisco, happening right now.
It was also revealed Monster Hunter Tri would come packed with a classic controller and feature free online multiplayer. In Japan, users have to pay to fight online with friends. Go America!"

@ Monster Hunter Nerds
General | Posted 16 years agoI want to figure out if I should bother getting the Wii Speak bundle or not, so I need your input. (Just scroll down to the last paragraph.)
Basically, I just want to know, of those of you who are going to get Monster Hunter Tri, how many of you are planning on getting the Wii Speak thing. If no one else is, then it'd be kind of a waste of money for me, haha. I will probably just use Skype or something if I need to use voice communication in-game, but if other people are getting Wii Speak, then I'll pick it up.
I am def going to want to get that Classic Pro controller, though. Extra buttons? For Monster Hunter? One of my biggest gripes about playing MH on the PSP is that there's too few buttons for too many functions. I've long since gotten used to it, but I remember trying to figure out how the hell I was expected to be able to turn the camera and run at the same time when I first played, haha.

General | Posted 16 years agoSo, I saw an Evony flash ad that had no busty women and actually advertised the game itself, which lead to me and
Notepad making accounts to try it out of curiosity. I actually like city building games, (I lost so many hours of my life to My Life as a King) so I'm actually diggin' it, even though I'm soooo confused, haha. I wish there was some kind of tutorial or something.
It's kind of ironic that I only got interested in it once they stopped trying to use the "sex sells" mentality in their ad campaigns. Honest advertising works, whodathunkit?

General | Posted 16 years agoWhen I checked FA today, there were a ton of new submissions on my watch list to look at, but I didn't bother checking to see if the number of thumbnails matched up with the number of submissions I was told I had. After checking them all out, I nuked all submissions, but I've just noticed a couple of artists I'm watching have uploaded stuff within the past day or so that I didn't see. I guess FA has a limit on how many submissions it can show at once? I didn't think it'd be the same kind of issue as with showing you watches/favs/comments etc. since there is a whole page dedicated to just submissions, not shared with a bunch of other types of messages. Either way, I thought nuking only marked the stuff that was visible as read. :S
So now I'm gonna have to go through my watch list and check everyone individually, haha. Fuck.

General | Posted 16 years agoOkay, I wasn't planning on getting started on the 2nd season of Sunred yet, but... I did. And ffffffffffff, the new opening is fucking amazing, ahaha. I thought the Weather Three mock intro was the new one, but I was mislead. :O Seriously, watch dat shit. (And if you've been watched all the old season one opening in episodes 1 through 26, pay special attention to what Kayoko notices 32 seconds in. I fucking love this show, haha.) Looks like the Sunshoot charge bar is going to be the new bike price negotiating. I wonder what it's leading up to, haha.
"Weren't you guys supposed to be conquering the world?"
General | Posted 16 years agoI finished watching the first season of Astro Fighter Sunred recently (been watching it on and off for the past several months.) I really want to recommend it to everyone, but it's kind of hard to describe what I find so appealing about it, and it's definitely not for everyone, as almost all the people I've shown it too haven't really gotten into it.
The series is sort of a parody of the super sentai genre, (think Power Rangers et. al) where the monsters are a normal, accepted part of society, who cook, clean, do chores around the house, and have ordinary day jobs. For the most part, they're very polite, and get along well with their neighbours, and it seems like their only motivation for trying to kill Sunred and take over the world is because they're monsters, and that's what monsters do.
Sunred, as shown in numerous flashbacks and the opening sequences, (of which there are a few variations even within the first season) took his job seriously at one point in time, but is now a jaded, bitter, unemployed slacker who spends all his time playing pachinko with his girlfriend's money. He doesn't take the monsters seriously anymore, not even bothering to show up in uniform to fight the monsters. He does keep his helmet on at all times, but as he, and other heroes, are never shown without them, and can somehow manage to eat, drink, and smoke with them on, it seems as if he was just born with a helmet for a head. He doesn't even know where his old tools of the trade are anymore, and is seen trying to pawn off his kamen rider-esque bike for less and less with each episode's opening.
The show's really very charming, and its humor comes from the interactions of the characters and their quirks, very reminiscent of Azumanga Daioh, rather than the "lol so random" type of humor in something like Excel Saga. Chances are, if you liked Azumanga, you'll probably like Sunred. You can watch it streamed or however else you want to, The first episode is slow, but it picks up soon afterwards, and the episodes are only 15 minutes long. If by the the end of the third or fourth episode, you aren't digging it, you probably won't like the rest of the series. If you stick with it, though, let me know! I'd love to have more people to talk about the series with, especially with the second season still ongoing! C:

General | Posted 16 years agoI've tried it out in a few different programs to make sure it wasn't just oC, and in all of them, the pressure sensitivity is just gone. What's weird is when you open the Wacom Tablet Properties, there's a little gauge that goes up and down when you press with your tablet pen to test its sensitivity and in that it looks like it's working fine, but other programs disagree. I hit default settings hoping that would do something, but it didn't.
Anybody know how to solve this problem? I'm using an Intuos2, in case that matters.
NEVERMIND IT'S BEEN FIX'D. The new driver just blows.
Ummmm...
General | Posted 16 years agoNerdy Fanboyness Ahead
General | Posted 16 years agoNormally I like to keep myself from watching stuff like this before a game is actually out, so I don't have to deal with being excited and anxious to play it for months before I actually can, but I couldn't help myself this time. By the end of this, I shed a single majestic tear. c': This is the only time I have not hated a Rathalos.
And for those of you who don't play Monster Hunter, you can't watch this and not think this game is gonna be fucking cool. If you own a Wii, you owe it to yourself to get this game when it comes out (and go hunting with me <3.) Also, while I don't think it's been confirmed yet, Capcom's likely going to drop the subscription fee for online play for the NA and EU release like they did with Monster Hunter G on the Wii in order to attract more customers, since Monster Hunter is not anywhere near as big over here as it is in Japan (where if you eat, sleep, or breathe, you also play Monster Hunter.)

General | Posted 16 years agoHoly shit, this is fucking amazing, and a little creepy, haha. Dang, now I wanna see if I can find the whole film! :O Can't believe I hadn't heard of this before.
Livestream?
General | Posted 16 years agoI've been seeing a few people do the livestream thing, (and lurked on a couple, since I don't have an account yet to chat with) and
hysterium suggested I try it out, so I've been thinking about it. Would you guys be willing to drop by if I did a session, maybe as early as sometime this weekend in the afternoon? I just want to make sure there's at least some interest in it before I try this thing out because I don't want to be drawing by myself like a loser, ahaha. :'C

General | Posted 16 years agoJust got back from my friend's place; New Year's was fun! My friends showed me this site last night, called Sankaku Complex (NSFW.) It's probably really old news to most of you, but for those who it isn't, it seems to be some sort of offbeat Asian-centric news blog. There are some pretty crazy articles on there like this one about the Shanghai Bridge, and you could probably spend all day looking just by searching for "Chinese style", haha. Just thought I'd share for those of you who, like me, can never keep up to date on shit like this.
Happy Holidays and New Years!
General | Posted 16 years agoBlah blah blah, watch lists are prob gonna be absolutely glutted with journals like this, but whatevs.
I hope everyone has a great time this holiday season, whatever your religious or secular cause for celebration is. Since New Year's is around the corner, too, I hope 2010 brings many good things to come for everyone. '09 was kind of a shitty year for me, so things can only get better in '10! 8D
What's everyone doing on the 31st? I'm gonna be heading up north to meet up with some old friends for greasy hot pot, mojitos, and maybe some Monster Hunter. C: I'm making sure I hitch a ride with someone this time, since last year I got waaaaay too trashed to drive home, so I had to spend the night. :X
Anyways, more porn to follow. I've got something sorta planned that I wanna do, but I'm not sure if I'll have the patience and motivation to follow through. I come up with story ideas all the time that I'd love to pursue, but fleshing them out in comic form is just something that takes too much time and focus for me to commit to, so I might do short written pieces to accompany a single illustration. I want to try my hand at something a little more refined looking, so I'll probably do it in Painter or Photoshop instead of oC and see how that goes. The biggest problem is I get bored drawing by myself way too quickly, which is why I do almost everything in oCs. I'll try not to let that happen this time, though. 8D

Team Fortress 2 Propaganda Poster Contest

Originally I wasn't going to enter because the TF2 community is humongous and full of extremely talented artists, professional and otherwise. But, I've come up with what I think is a pretty good idea, so I figured I might as well do it for the hell of it. I probably have no chance of winning, but there are a lot of runner-up slots, so if I got even a free T-shirt or something, I'd be really happy. Though, since it ends on Tuesday, I'm probably gonna procrastinate and not do it until it's almost too late.
If anybody else on the site is entering, I hope you guys post your work after the submission deadline is up, I'd love to see what everyone else did!

Well...
General | Posted 16 years agoI had a lurking account on this site for a while, but the friends I oC with have convinced me to try posting some of my art here, so I created this account. I hadn't done it until now because I've been intimidated by the amount of incredible talent here. I'm still a bit nervous, but hopefully, even if my art isn't all that stellar, it'll still be worth taking a look at.
I don't really draw on my own very often, so I'm mostly going to be posting things from oC sessions. We'll see how this goes.
