Xbox One Less Console to Buy
General | Posted 12 years agoMan that was amazing.
Hey guys like Kinect? How about sports game sor Call of Duty? TV? How about CD-Keys to tie game sto your account, meaning you'll need to pay a fee to use used games. EVEN ON SEPERATE ACCOUNTS ON THE SAME SYSTEM.
Just wow. I haven't seen a tech reveal this flaccid and pathetic since the Segway. I know they said "We don' want to focus on games" but it's a fucking Gaming Console.
Notes I've gathered...
You don't need it always connected, but needs to connect t the server ones every 24.
Kinect will be bundled with the machine. Oh and it will not fuction without the device. You need Kinect to turn it on. Oh and the machine has low power mode...meaning that sucker will always be watching your living room or bedroom. Sleep tight.
No backwards compatibility with any Xbox games. Sony said the same thing but said they had plans to allow you to stream PSone, PS2, and PS3 games on the PS4 in some manner. Microsoft has no such plans.
CD-Keys will block used sales. You will need to pay a fee to play a used game. For newer games you will be paying full price. Thus defetaing the purpose of second hand games. SOmewhat hypocritically I might add.
focus on new Apps. One can Skype, play a game, and wtach TV at the same time and switch app to game instantly. Whoop dee do.
All the games shown were EA sports and Call of Duty. What was revealed for the gaming side of the device?
--microsoft is paterning with EA to deliver MORE and NEW sports content for the device and
--EXCLUSIVE CoD content for the Xbox One. And Ghosts now has a dog because having a dog counts as innovation to Call of Duty now.
This when from tragic and rage inducing to tragicomic when today, after the reveal of Microsoft big, hyped vision of the next Xbox console...Sony's stock rose.
Seriously that's impressive Microsoft. Pretty certain Nintendo and Sony are now breathing a sigh of relief.

General | Posted 12 years agoNow,

tauvuranu has had life take a serious dump on her.

Kaf (will also soon) Play: ETERNAL DARKNESS
General | Posted 12 years agoMy copy arrived on Monday. So I'll be setting the Wii up/ and shit to make sure I can play this game.
Been meaning to play it for a while. I may share thoughts/obsevartions with it, like I hopefully will with Deadly Premonition.
...and do a playtrhough of amnesia, that spine tingling masterpiece.
Hey, is Machine for Pigs out yet?

Kaf Plays: the most polazring survival horror game ever!
General | Posted 12 years agoStill on episode one and I will say this:
The grahpics and sound effects sorta suck.
The voice work is spotty, mostly becaus sometime the audio quality sound sspotty.
But so far I like it. The characters seem fasicating, quirky, and fun. York is an amazing protagonist, and i love the very "Silent Hill Meets Twin Peaks" aspect.

Buildin' a Sentry--err, PC
General | Posted 12 years agoOkay, this is something I have always wanted to do. I figure having a MAcbook and a Win 7 Desktoop might be helpful, and I want a gaming rig, though gaming rigs are pricey (I';m looking at you, Alienware).
So yeah, this is something I've always wanted to do,ever since I found out you could; Build my own PC. Order the parts, slap them together, and make a machine truly mine.
Thing is I this is my first time, and I'm nervous. It'll still be expensive, and I am a tech oriented guy so I know how easily I can screw up and how delicate some of the parts are.
I'm a tech oriented guy, and I figure that i can't let my anxiety rule me though. This isn't just about havig a good computer, this is about knowing I can do something.
...Witha little help from my friends though.
personaomega has volunteered to help me, though I'm welcome to any and all help and advice. As long as it's not shit like "BWAHAHA, THOSE PARTS ARE STUPID!" or "Just get X" without telling me why. That's insanely unphelpful.
Also while most of you who I contact/contact me use it, I'll be hanging onto my old Skpye account. If you contact me on MSn, ask for it tomorrow when MSN is finally dragged out behind the shed and shot tomorrow.

Dammit. Why can't you be as clean cut as EA and I can just hate you? This, Dragon's Dogma, you almost feel like you want to make up for being collosal dicks.

Richotello Fiddles, SimCity Burns
General | Posted 12 years agoSo, because I decided "I should post a new journal" I figured I'd talk my least favourite game publisher, EA.
I won't talk SimCitys rather...uh, troubled launch, or the DRM partciles because others have said what I could have said way better I feel, other then I heard on /v/ a cracked version of the game exists and it doesn't need servers.
Thus the horror of DRM remains: if you steal this game you get a better service, and a more functional game, then if you paid 50 bucks. Is that ironic? i can't tell because hipsters have ruined that word.
Anyways, EA's CEO John Rictollo has resigned. I honest want to tell his sucessor this:
for for some unlikely reason you're a furry who is reading this complete nobody's journal, I pity you. You are to take the helm of EA games.
Sure you are at the helm of a power force in the industry now, but you're hemorrhaging money, you can't sustain yourself. The signs are everywhere EA is sinking, same with the rest of the console Market but EA is an extreme case, they're dead centre in this bubble.
Add to the fact pretty much every person you need to get money from hates you and your company, and your stocks dropping slowly but steadily well.
Sucks to be you, pal.

Back, and on the topic of Weasyl *UPDATE*
General | Posted 13 years agoSo yeah, returned. Had a fun few days.
So now that it's in open beta. And statistics show it's becoming popular. The Temptation to hope ship or at least use it is tempting.
Some cynics might point to SheeArt as example of the future of Weasyl. But I say? Give it a chance.
Yes, SheezyArt didn't do crap todA but look where they both are. dA is somehow worse then FA.
Somehow, dA has become worse then the largest website of the furry subculture.
As for Weasyl as FA well, I'll be blunt here. FA's Admins are a bunch of incompetent, apathetic asshats at the best of times. It's rife with cronyism and preferable treatment to popular artists over unknowns, and the site's infratcuture is so out of date the Google+ ripoff menus are comical, sorta like duct taping a spoiler to a 84 Ford Taurus to make it seem new.
Point is I think Weasyl's success is based on the fact they currently have the easiest competition in the world.
It's https://www.weasyl.com/profile/kafzeil Keep in mind I'm not jumping ship, more like using it to keep tabs on my favorite artists.
Still the possibility of Weasyl replacing FA feels very real to me, until 'neer, Sciggles, and Yak can yank their heads out of their asses and actually do shit. I like many FA users, I like this community. the admins I'm not too crazy about.
UPDATE: Inluded my account info. Nothing on it but I shall post stuff.

General | Posted 13 years agoFOR GOOD!
Nah I'm just being a jerk.
Visiting some family out of town for the weekend, won't be back until Sunday afternoon, so not long. Still just in case many of the new watchers on this and my "Ninja" account want to speak to me on Saturday; not ignoring you. I'm being pounced on by my little cousins.
Also, since many of the people who watch me are snarky jerks like myself, please do not take this opportunity to deface or spam me.
Carry on with whatever you where doing.

On DmC and "Gamer Entitlement"
General | Posted 13 years agoSo as DmC underpreforms Capcom scales back it's sales predictions from 2 million to 1.2 million well, seems the drama won't stop. And again the Godwin of corporate vs. consumer in video games rears it's ugly head once more.
"Entitlement"
However, now it reaches what might be a truly stupid zenith.
It seems fans of the classuic DMC games, like myself, simply aren't biting. "My copy" was a used one a friend let me borrow. Maybe it was alienating them. Maybe it how openly hostile Ninja Theory came off to fans who complained, all of them, and how dismissive they seemed to treat the series they had to rework. Maybe it was the buggy game, the overall focus on platformer and (Admittingly) gorgeous and creative environments at the expense of the series' trakemark deep combat.
So now supporters, and so called "Gamer Journalists" are calling people enitlted. Why?
http://www.vg247.com/2013/01/15/dmc.....-crying-shame/
You're reading this right.
DmC naysyaers are crazy, whiny, enlisted, entilted babies!
...For not forking over 60 bucks for a game they don't want.
I'm not angry. I'm fucking laughing at this. Seriously, this is hysterical.
"You killed a frnachise you love ot of spite!"
Yeah yeah, look, everything time nerds bitch about something..."Don't like it, don't buy it!" or "Vote with your wallet!". Well guess what happened here?!
And yet people are STILL be vindicated over it, like these fucking greedy, sleazy corporations deserve your money no matter what they pump out.
"Entitlement' is quickly becoming the Godwin for gamers. It's used as a cop out to shut down actual discussion, but never addresses actual complaints, merely ignores them.

To all Pony fans complaining about that rumor
General | Posted 13 years agoWhat's this?! You're angry that Hasbro is putting selling it's own product first and story second?!
As a Transformers fan let me say this...
Get used to it.
And no I'm not being smug.Hasbro wants to sell toys. Sure FIM makes them shit tons of money from the show but to them that's just gravy. And know what? Most people, even collectors, don't buy more then one toy. So yeah...Hasbro execs will make mandates like this, even if it's single episodes.
http://tfwiki.net/wiki/To_sell_toys
Scroll down to strange developments. Given you guys also bitched about another character...Candace I recall well, casting will prove insight (Again...we have this toy we need to sell)
So yeah. Guys I hate to tell you this but FIM? It's a commercial. It's made to to push a product. Yes, Lauren Faust went into it to make a decent girlie show, yes, you CAN argue day and night about it's quality. That doesn't change the fact it was made to push a product, so please stop yelling about FIM selling out. It came pre-sold out.
I'm not really justifying it. Just saying weird stuff like this was probably creeping in (Why do you think the show has such a large extended cast and background characters?) so...yeah. Just be thankful no one has been killed off.
Yet.
I'm putting my flame retardant suit on now.

RIP THQ 1989-2012
General | Posted 13 years agoI never actually thought I'd see this day. Hell to sorta honest I kinda thought THQ would be pulled out of this mess. Maybe it's because well, THQ did publish some really good or interesting stuff, as as they died. Midway collapse as arcade maker trying to adapt it's properties into the modern era, with only Mortal Kombat surviving as it;s legacy that I know off. Acclaim...well after BMX XXX was anyone sad to here them go?
I think what happened was some problematic business tatageies, really poor timing and the global recession took thier toll. THQ has for most of it's existence been as licensed publisher, mostly for Disney, Pixar and Nickeodeon. Thing is the current ecenomic state children's games don't sell, barring the recent exception of Skylanders and a handful of others. Parents aren't willing to drop money for video for thier children now, least not the full 60 dollars ones. With the advent of F2P and other alternative pricing models children where out of the equation.
Then there was shit like the uDraw tablet and interesting toy but an unnecessary accessory for the Wii. It did moderatly well for the Wii so THQ saw fit fo spend money to making versions that could work for the PS3 and 360.
The practically breaths and lives off expensive, stupid accessories that are only ever used for one game. Trying to convince 360 and PS3 users to buy a uDraw was a bit like a college reward it's students with Chuck E Cheese coupons.
And Don't get me started on Homefront, a game that makes Red Dawn look like Apocaplasye Now. the North Koreans could only get more evil if you found out their tanks ran on live puppies and that EMP was powered the tears of orphans.
But THQ also doubled down in recent years on it's own Ips and had soem greta studios attached to it. Say what you will about Darksiders, but that was Vigil's first game. That's not excusing Vigil for anything: The game had enough polish, spark, soul, hell lots of things then most studios like whoever is making CoD now does and this was their first game! Saints Row went from a San Andreas rip-off to a series that runs on balls to the wall insanity and fun.
So I guess that just leavs wher ethe franchises go, huh?
Welp South Park the Stick of Truth and THQ Montrela are no both in the hands of Ubisoft. The game is pretty likely to see release. It's only part missing is being on store shelves at this point. South Pakr Studios wants this game, as do Parker and Stone.
Crytek bought Homefront for some reason. For like 500K. Stop laughing. I'm not joking.
koch Media AKA Deep Silver has bought Volition and the Saints Row franchise. This both worrying and a bit of a relief. On one hand Deep SIlver's track record for quality games is non-existent. I mean seriously guys, Dead Island was kinda crap. On the other hand they don't seem too controlling of all that caring of the direction of their IPs. So they could just let Volition make Saints Row The Third. Give them money say "Make it by X Date" and we'll get Saints Row Fo' and be blasting robot dinos with dildo lasers or something cool. Plus Koch's recent "Zomboe Bait" snafu shows they're tad off kilter themselves. So really...no one else could publish a Saints Row game. Volition is a studio that does not give a shit about making a market tested consumer friendly game. Red faction feels like, up until Armageddon, like Volition watched Tital Recall and said "LEt'S MAKE THATA GAME!" and was awesome. hell one of the big features of Guerilla was "Smash Shit with a hammer" and they researched artitecture just so the buildings crumbled realistically. Activision does not care for open world games. And EA even the grittiest stuff feels like it was market tested and researched and generally EA has sterile, corporate feel.
Sgea Got Relic and Company of Heroes. this makes the most sense. Sega has the rights to Warhammer and they've so far, unlike other japanese publishers been makinga push into the PC market and the statgery genre. Hell RUSE was pretty much Sega's experiment onto the RTS as a console game. GWS likes relic, they respect 40K. Seems more like Sega is gently nudging GWS to give them the rights to 40K, and it's make the most sense.
And Vigil...got zlich. Ouch.it's more or less becaue Vigil just released a game and thier next project was veyr early in the dev cycle.
...Though I hear Rumors Platinum Games (yes THOSE GUYS) are interested in purchasing the Darksiders franchise.

Worst of 2012 VIDYA
General | Posted 13 years agoSo I finally move to telling you what I thought was the worst the previous year. Sit tight.
Worst Reboot or Remake: Syndicate.
Let me be clear: I fucking love games that let me embrace the evil side of me. That let's that psychopathic delusional maniac out of me and gives him a weapon or a superpower or puts him at the helm of something big and such. During my exploration of the DOS era when I figured out the magic of DOSBox when I was 16 I found a game called Syndicate and fell in love.
For those who don't know Syndicate put you incharge of modern day corperation...I mean cyberpunk Syndicate and gave you a single goal: WORLD DOMINATION. You send cyborg hitsquads to deal with problems brainwashing and bribery couldn't. It was the sort of game you put Tears for Fears "Everybody Wants to rule the world".
The problem with the newer game? While decent FPS that tries new things and has some cool concepts it really doesn't feel like Syndicate. It could have been called something else entirely.
Also goddamn. The bloom. SO much bloom.
BBiggest Out and Out Scam: The War Z.
While I haven't played this, and admitting it might but an asterisk next to this I still feel the War Z is represinble.
A blalant rip-off of DayZ, in spite of the developers claiming to have worke don this game for 2-years(Though the game looks alpha phase at best) this sucker showed up on steam for 15 bucks.
First thing you'll notice is player killing is rampant. The second thing you'll notice is every sucks.tHe graphics, the sound, beating undead in the face with a flashlight is boring, etc.
However it quickly becomes apparent the game wants to rip you off. It It costs 15 dollars, or your regional equilevent and then asks for microtransactions for equipment. Always a bad sign.
next you find out all in game equipment is pretty much shit. Want good stuff? Shell out ten bucks!
of course you THEn find out this stuff is non permanent. Spend ten real dollars? Watch disappear in seconds when the guy hiding in the bush kills you and steals it.
The game was on Steam, and the store wasn't dealt with via steam. However Steam took it down and refunded the costumers. A Very rare deal.
More to come soon.

How assholes ruined perfectly awesome hats
General | Posted 13 years agoor "I'm seriously considering giving Kaf's costume a redesign."
I do have a number of reasons for doing so.
1. Visually distinct/world building reasons. For reasons I don't care to divulge too heavily I've decied's Kaf's current outfit is too "American" or rather, too closely resembles Lucy's. I'd like some visual distinction. or more of it, rather.
I'm aiming for a more "British" look, possibly Edwardian.
2. Hipsters and other bastards ruined the look.
Let's face it. The fedora was awesome. I was huge fan of as the kind of person who openly loves black and white movies. Film Noir is the shit.
Then it resurged in popularity among those people. You know the ones. Obsessed with "Irony". They hate the mainstream and call us all "mainstream sheep" while buying anything Pitchfork tells them to. Tight retro clothing. Jeans that leave nothing to the imagination.Terrible taste in tattoos. Proudly wear glasses that you'd get beat up in school for wearing?
Yeah...those guys.
I'd goa bowler/derby but I don't know it's status.
Note Lucy will still wear one. She's basically inspired off several noir protagonists and she can pull the look off. You know, the kind of woman who can emasculate you by lighting your girlfriend's cigerette for her while saying something snappy*.
So yeah if anyone actually heads this crap, any help?
* cookie if you get the reference.

Kaf's Best and Worst of 2012 Part 1
General | Posted 13 years agoFirst off to be predictable tosser VIDYA GAEMS
Best RPG: Dragon's Dogma
About the only thing Capcom didn't cock up was this beauty, made by waht's left of Capcom's in house A-Team, and the best arguement for capcom to clean up there shit.
Why? Because this sucker is THAT FUCKING GOOD.
While obestinsily another Japanese attempt to grab the "Western" Market and merging Western style it carries over a lot JRPG elements and action mechanics into the RPG. What results is a fresh, invigorating blend of East and West. Insane customization, looting and "Openworldness' mixed with a Class system like that of FFV's. With a choice of Nine class and numerous partners thanks to a Online system, DD's only real fault is how generic the story and setting is...until you start getting to the end. Kinda wish the game blew this wham stuff early on. Oh and fair warning. This game is brutal.
Best: Remake or Reboot: Spec Ops: the Line, and XCOM: Enemy Unknown (Tie)
My god was this hard. Here have have a cult classic staragety game about defending the Eart from aliens and unknown and pretty much forgotten military shooter series. Both made return in 2012. Neither had been seen for a decade and even had cancelled reboot projects.
And what returns they where. XCOm is a perfect example of rebooting a dead franchise RIGHT, modernizing the gameplay, mechanaics, and artstyle, removing the more dated mechanics, and helping new players experience what made the original so great (In modern mindsights, of course) While still making old fans happy by retaining what made it great. Every about XCOm was amazing the artstyle, the intensity of the battlescape, realizing your 4-6 man team is outgunned and outnumbered, the stupid grin on your face as your and alien foes wage an escalating war against each other. We NEEDED this sucker in a era where staragey games are uncommon. Thanks Firaxis.
As for Spec Ops well, it had much lower expectations. A reboot from a forgettable franchise on the PS1, rereleased asn marketing as COD clone in a era where many are getting sick of COD and massive military wankery that the FPS has become, no one expect any great things from Spec Ops. Hell the MP is badly tacked on and a playthrough is shorter then COD.
And that worked to the game's advantage. It starts out like "Generic CoD Clone #7934693" then after a while starts going it's own route. It becomes the Apocalypse Now to CoD's Michael Bay's "EXPLOSIVE ARMY DUDES SAVEZ TEH WORLD!" or whatever he's making this year. It takes the idea behind military shooters in particular and video games in general and deconstruction them. Player motives, the "Fun" UAV airstrike parts in CoD, binary player choices. Spec Ops shows you how you compete with the Call of Duty games: You DON'T. That market is inpentrable. Do your own thing.
Best SHooter: Borderlands 2
Okay this might be cheating and reveal I am biased towards RPG mechanics. But who gives a shit?
BL2 is what happens when you take a First Person Shooter, Diablo, Firefly, Trigun, Mad Max, and put it them all ian blender. Well that's the first game.
The sequel took everything that made a great game great and made it even better. Easier look trading and manaagement, more varied firearms, prettier grahpics and more varied environments. More midgets. And four new characters to play around with.
Well...five with Gaige the Mechromancer.
Best zombie game: the Walking Dead.
Yeah while I have zero hope for the Activison made first person shooter, THIS one, base don the comic, is amazing.
Imagine Heavy Rain with zombies. Now remove things peopled hate about Heavy Rain. The weird character models, the borderline laughable script and acting.
That's the Walking Dead. Released ina series of five episodes over the course of the year The Walking Dead was everything we had hoped for. Emotional, when the game hits you, it hurts. All the characters feel real, and the game does an amazing job of capturing and characterizing the survivors. It's proof that zombie fiction is not completely worthless of merit.
Best Open World Game: Far Cry 3
damn was this one hard. As much as I adore ACIII, Far Cry 3 deserves this more.
Don't get me wrong both are amazing games with flaws. Far Cry 3 is perfect with juuuuuuusssssssst enough flaws to bring the whole thing down to really freaking good rather then perfect, like the save system, the world not being as realized as Skyrim or Liberty City, amoung others.
But still, this game is fun. Never has being sorced to fight for your life and survive been so much fun.
Now if only you could turn the "Help" notifications off. They seriously make me miss Navi.

Ran in a Google search. It's not affiliated with Nintendo.
Guess all we can do is wait for that timer to finish...
