So, less then a week until the allegded end of the world
General | Posted 13 years agoOkay Ito my watchers, let me make you an offer.
If the world does come to cataclysmic end, help me topple whatever deity did it. I don't care who it is. Zeus, Odin, Yahwah, Ra, Chucalain, that bastard's going down, God of War style. And I want YOU to help me with my celestial insurrection.
And if nothing happens? Feh. Just keep doing what you're doing.

General | Posted 13 years agoSo I'm futzing around the computer, and decided to head on down to Capcom Unity because as of late it's become hotbed for drama lulz and corperate asskissing. I mean seriously the videos pimping the new DmC are so big and slow my browser down I just roll my eyes now and click on something else.
Then i see it and I can only hold my head in shame.
Mega Man X Street fighter.
"But Kaf you dapper swindler!" You may say. "This is GREAT news right?! You love Mega Man, it's FREE new game for the PC and It's Mega Man AND street Fighter! Not being an unappeasable hypocrite. Oh and pre-order DmC while you're at it!'
But you, theorical corporate apologist, this feels like the absolute bare fucking minimum. They say they'll release more but I have my doubts.
And more importantly...
Why does everything these days need Street Fighter Bootsrapped to it?!
I love street Fighter, and it was aweosme to See Asura beat the shit out of Akuma. And STxT was pretty fucking crap though But guys cut it out. Stop trying to peddle street fighter so blazening to me. Let the blue bomber stand out on his own. Are you really so faithless in this mascot you feel the only way to get people to notice him is with Frank West of Ryu strapped next to him?

General | Posted 13 years agoAbout quater to midnight my cat, Marbles, who's health had been declining over the past few months, went to anemic shock. She tried puking, she was hold to the touch, and she could barely walk. Atfter my sister tried giving her medication, we waited and hoped she would improve. She didn't. We took took her to the emergency vet clinic.
After running some tests we found out treatment would be only make her well short term. Long term it wasn't looking good. As she was she barely ate in the passing weeks, and was lossing frightening amounts of weight. We made our decisions, and it was not something we took lightly r enjoyed.
Marbles died a little around 2 AM in my sister's arms. She was 15. It was quick and painless.
Good-bye my loyal friend. I'll miss you dearly.

DmC Demo: First Impressions
General | Posted 13 years agoSo I figured now that I've had some time with it, let me say what I liked and didn't like about it.
The Good: First off, the guys behind the environmentsm the design their appearn the way they morph and shit, should be given an award. They look veyr crisp, and very full to look. at. The parts of the demo where the landscape twists and alters itself to try and murder are actually awesome. Credit where it's due. Dante's animations arne't too bad, but nothing to write home abpout.
The Meh: Combat is really, reall lacking. It doesn't feel as fun as say, god of War, Bayonetta, or even previous games in the series. Sure it's competent, but various factors, like the enemy design, don't give you that awesome feeling you get playing as Real!Dante or Kratos as you tear up another horde of enemies. Shame, really. It might be I just need to get used to it, but I do not like the fact that TWO of the four shoudler buttons are dodge buttons. Can't I have a lock on? Good action games like DMC, Bayonetta, and God of War make damn sure you can keep track of your foes as they surround you. God of War does this by fix the camera so you always have a good view of everything around you. DMC and Bayonetta give you a lock on. Also I really don't like the "Hold R2/L2 down to change weapon mechanic."
The Bad: the game is really boring.
The Ugly: The character and enemy designs. The Characters look like the artist tried WAY too hard to go for the "Whatever Today's youth are :ike. Dante's look is supposed to be detached and not caring, that's why he's cool. Instead he looks sloppy. I'd even go as far a sto say he dresses like homeless person. Vergil looks like a hipster, Kat...I really can't be bothered to give a rat's ass about. She just seems so....uncompelling. The enemy deisgn to me was worse. Aside from Poison, the boss, there were only three enemies, weird looking cherub things that look like angels from bayonetta's hillbilly cousins, and...two variant of doll things. The Enemy design isn't really unpleasant to look at, but they really look bland, generic, and dull. There's nothing visually enticing about them. The art design, the animations, maybe there's more, better enemies in the full game, but I not like what I see thus far. They aren't fun enemies to fight or look at.
Which brings to my next point: Poison. She's not a good looking in any sense of the word. She's basically just a nasty limb filled tumor with a potty mouth. She's not fun to fight, like say the Cardinal Virtues in Bayonetta, or any bayoentta boss.
Also, the dlialogue is terrible. I doubt it but I hope they change some of the dialogue. Seriously here's a snippet from it
Poison: FUCK YOU!
Dante: FUCK YOU!
Poison: FUUUUCCCCCCCCCK YOOOOOOOOOOOUUUUUUUUUU!*vomits*
I'm not exagagting. It's so dark and edgy it feels almost farcical. Like that bad fanfic we all wrote when we were 13. Seriously, who writes this shit, reads it aloud, and thinks "This is Shakespearean quality?"
I'm not even kidding, one of the dev diaries compared this game's story and writing to that of the Bard. I'm sure old William is rolling in his grave. Hell anybody who knows me will know I swear alot and even I think this a bit much and cringe worthy.
Also...I really hate Dante here. if they keep what we saw in the reval trailer of stoic, violent bastard at least the character design would match. Instead we got this...douchebag. He's halfway between that characterization and that of the Dante we all know and love. he feels like he's trying to cool, jokey, and irrelevant. he trash talks and occassionally comes close, CLOSE to being like dante and lovable.
But just...everything about him seems off. Dante had a devil may care/jokester attitude while this guy just has attitude. Real!Dante was a fun, lovable jerk who seems to enjoy his job. You connected with him because he had the same reaction you had. When you got that SSS rank you KNEW you were as cool and good at this Dante.
New Dante? ugh...he speaks in that tone. You that tone teenagers talk in because it sounds cool and cocky? that one that becomes absolutely unbearable the moment you turn 20? Yeah, THAT tone. He even looks like a scrawny teenager who thinks he can hang out at college party and acts like a dick because he thinks he can beat up all the guys there and then leave and bang all their women.
When of course in reality the only reason the college kids put up with him is because he's a minor and beating up a 17 year old who's 80 pounds soaking wet is unsporting.
So yeah....uh....the demo did ractially nothing to dissuade me this reboot was a huge mistake.
if anyone needs me I'll be pre-ordering Metal Gear rising and Anarchy Reigns.

Well, the DmC Demo arrived one the PSn and...
General | Posted 13 years ago...The game is...
Okay?
Like I dunno about the art direction but the demo only showed bits we've seen before. I still think it's kinda bland and uninspired. But the environments look pretty.
The soundtrack bland.
ombat is sorta fun but I need to get used to the controls. It controls nicely but weird. And doesn't have the same satisfying feeling as say, other Devil may Cry games or god of War. Dunno if holding the L2/r2 buttons/Triggers is a good mechanic for switching weapons.
And uh...
I dunno.
It's not terrible but I can't really summon anything strong in regards to my feelings towards the demo.

General | Posted 13 years agoSo, while playing Assassin's creed III venturing to New York's undergound tunnels, a annoying and actually scary glitch seems to happen.
Sometimes yo'll need to pick up a powder keg to blow upa barricade, it's not complex (Denoating a mounts to shooting it) but occasionally, the entire screw will go bright white and the volume will crack up, giving off weird noises and generally browning my pants.
The game's glitch enough as is. So I hope this is patched soon. Maybe I'll just retire to MP and shank my fellow AC fans.

Double Dragon Neon is fucking RADICAL
General | Posted 13 years agoI'm not gonna lie, my one and only gripe with this game is ther's no online co-op which right now deprives me of a Bro in which to High Five and Beatbox.
If yu're the kind of guy who needs his games to be serious all the time, avoid this one. But for those of us who love 80s cheese, DDN is for you. The game is actually funny and very, very goofy, and better for it.
It's not just a a great Double dragon game or beat 'em up, but quite an affectionate mockery of the 80s.
It's seriously hard to tell when the game is mocking how silly the decade was or enshrining it. And I love it.

General | Posted 13 years agoKaf talks about stuff vol. 2
General | Posted 13 years agoAlright, boys and girls, time to listen to me yammer on about stuff!
First off, vidya gaems
You know, there's really not a whole damn lot coming out this fall, first party console wise. Between Sony focusing on family games this year, Microsoft deciding to focus of allowing the 360 to do everything else but conspicuously ignoring games, to Nintnedo and WiiU...I don't even know anymore. I'm worried that the software for the WiiU won't be enough to help it float, seeing as an alarming number of laucnh willhave seen months of release on competition, most of which have seen a dignaigant price drop. More worryingly is the WiiU still doesn't have a official release date. I'm friends with my local game and hobby shop employees, and the manager of one says even he doesn't know when the system is supposed to come out. This is scary. And nobody say "Well, maybe it'll just come out one week with ne eprior warning." Outside of smaller titles this never happens. And the WiiU is a console made by Nintendo. So yeah, I'm a bit scared the WiiU might not see the light of day this year, or worse.
Othe rthen that, looking forward to playing Assassin's Creed III, Darksiders II, Sleeping Dogs, Hitman: Absolution and Fall of Cybertron. Call of Duty...
...I've given up on that franchise.
March is looking to pick up though. Looking crowded but hey. Before I'm cautiously optimistic about Metal Gear Rising and skepetical but "Fuck I'll play it so I can bitch about it" about DmC staring Donte!
On movies...
Don't bother with the new Total Recall. Just don't.
Also, I know I'm gong get lynched for saying this but I did not much care for The Dark Knight Rises.
And Transformers 4 is supposed to be...a reboot. But still continuing the same sory...and directed by Michael Bay. DOn't ask me how that works. The michael bay transformers movies are big time guilty pleasures at best. Even as big Transformers fan I'm worried it's screw over everything to do with the Aligned continuity.
Books
Ordered a bunch of artbooks from Udon Entertainment. They're pretty good. I'm seriously eyeballing the Robot Master Field guide. Specially since the writers expressed interest in a Maverick Field Guide.
so yeah. nerdy stuff.

Place a comment below and I shall:
1. Tell you something I've learned about you by looking at your FA page for 13 seconds.
2. Tell you which color you remind me of.
3. Tell you my first memory of you or the first thing I thought about you.
4. Tell you what pokemon you remind me of.
5. Ask you something I've always wondered about you, and your answer has to be as vague as possible to keep the suspense.
6. Tell you my favorite thing about you.
7. Give you a weird nickname.
8. Tell you what's on my shirt right now.
9. Challenge you to post this on your journal as well (HA. Not likely folks!)
Alright, it's up. Post in it or just leave it awkwardly die off.
Make your choice now!

Kaf talks about stuff Vol 1.
General | Posted 13 years agoSO because my journal is now awkwardly out of date, this may be the first of my journals where I talk about stuff. Stuff I like/played/watched/read/listened to/hated/whatever. Not really in depth reviews or anything, just and excuse for me to ramble and make dick jokes.
Dragon's Dogma is actually really fricking good. Or at least, It falls into my niche of RPGs. While not as big as, say, Skyrim, the world is still detailed and the systems work welll. My cheif complaints are Capcom hasn't learned it's lesson from Dead Rising and figured out that certain games do not benefit from single save file that autosaves. Doubly so for open world RPGs. Though the game make sup for it by being very flexible with it's job system (Think FFV for reference) though stat builds are still impacted by this (The job you level up with affects stat growth). The other is of course, capcom has a lot of Downloadable Content, sorry Disc Locked Content on the game they're eager to make you pay for. It's not enough to ruin or break the game but, fucking still. Do ou guys have to remind me you're scumbags now every time I boot up the game?
Men in Black III was surprisingly good. Still not as good as the original, but hey, II was terrible, and it's surprising when number III in any franchise is good, let alone a installment made a decade apart.
Season I of a Game of Thrones was awesome. not going to lie o spoil it. Also, quite love A Song of Ice and Fire. best fantasy I've read a long time.
Finally, gamesworkshop is updating 40K to Edition 6. I approach this with 1 parts optimism, 4 parts apprehension and fear, and ten parts "Matt Ward better not shill the goddamn grey Knights/Ultramarines too much and fuck over the Sisters of Battle again/otherwise destroy the fluff or give his favorite factions gamebreaking rules and whatnot".
Being a 40K fan really sucks sometimes.

Anthrocon in one week
General | Posted 13 years agoAnd I'm not going again. Well, maybe I'll be in a better financial position next year to go and hang with cool people. Like Lisky the Slut Puppy and Sunblink.
Until then I'll likely spend the convention weekend alternating between weeping on the old horn pile and playing Dragon's Dogma. Hey, I can't spend all weekend getting my honk sob on.

Goddamn Ragtime
General | Posted 14 years agoSo, today as I was walking to lunch, I was listening to my iPod when the acapella version of "I'm a Member of the Midnight Crew" comes on.
I caught myself singing in a crowded food court.I dread to think what other nerdy songs I've sung within an earshot of people.

The Tommy Wi-Show
General | Posted 14 years agoWell, it looks like Machima has given Tommy Wiseau his own show, perplexingly.
The end result? Confusion. And It's not very good.
It seems a little too self aware. Part of the reason I like the Room was in spite of it's terribleness, it earnestly believed was a a piece of art. That and it was special kind of badness. The kind you can't help but smile at.
The Tommy Wi-Show tries to recapture that emotionally silted madness that makes the Room so great, but it tries too hard and doesn't come close to capturing The Room's epic badness. Instead it's just moronic.
Seriously, I think I can feel my brainstem trying to kill me as I type this.

Anybody even reading these things?
General | Posted 14 years agoJust checking. You know, in case it looks like I'm talking to myself.
Anyways, I suppose I should stop being a lurker and start posting more. Might put up. Depends on my mood.
Anyways, details about myself and my interests.
I'm interested in all kinds of speculative fiction. Fantasy, Science Fiction, Alternate History. I have a fondness for dystopian novels, detailed settings, gray morality, and christ on a pogo stick let's leave it that.
I have an interest in myths and legends, religious text, history, and tech. to be blunt, I can be a walking encyclopaedia about these subjects. So be mindful is you wish to discuss these things with me. I will talk your ear off.
I do not watch a lot of TV. Other then Mad men, Dexter, and numerous others, I am usually utterly ignorant to what's on/popular now. I buy DVDs to watch TV shows. Also, don't ask me about reality TV, especially the ones with alleged good will. I cannot stand the stuff.
For music, my tastes vary, but generally anything goes. While I'm slightly more neutral towards Rap and Country, certain artists like Mos Def and Johnny Cash will get me going. I guess I prefer certain artists over genres, oddly enough.
And that's it. Well, I don't I'll anyone will even look at this but I might as well try to become more active around here.
