Psychobilly time?
General | Posted 6 months agoBeen doing a lot of introspection lately trying to figure out what I resonate with. Ive been having a bit of a gender + style crisis lately. I was very into dressing up and exploring all types of styles in high school, but something about college dialed that back for me. However, at college I was able to be a drag king and meet so many wonderful people. Among them was an amazing psychobilly who I always admired. We weren't close friends, but I always admired him and I think subtly emulated him at times with my drag and personal style. I got very close to a psychobilly adjacent look, and it's where I've felt the most comfortable. Coming back around after a particularly hard start to the year, I think I'm finally figuring out that this might be where I wanna be! I'm glad to have a name for it and a community! It combines so many of my loves. History, punk and goth music, classic country and blues, fashion, among other things. Without going into detail, where I'm from also greatly influences this. I've grown up seeing rockabillys around, and there used to be a great rockabilly store near where I lived when I was much younger that I loved going into. I think I'll be lucky to be getting into this where I am for the summer!
I'm excited to see where this takes me :) It feels like a good evolution of my pre-existing style, so I barely have to make a change! But the difference is knowing what I'm doing with the style, and my intentions. I'm having a great time exploring more rockabilly and psychobilly music, I'm happy! Just gotta wait for my hair to grow out so I can do a pompadour haha.

oc world development
General | Posted 6 months agoI've been seeing some really cool creature and spec-bio design lately and its inspiring me to work more on my own alien species more :)!
I haven't posted about them here much yet but I have two main alien species; Gnlsens and Lithurnians. A lot of my main ocs are hybrids of these two species and humans. In my oc universe they're all genetically compatible. Humans and Lithurnians being almost entirely compatible, and Gnlsens having a bit more genetic distance. I've posted one piece involving Gnlsens, which is the black + white + green piece made to look like a tapestry. I want to work out much more how Gnlsen's bodies work so I can draw them more consistently. I also need to make a fully Gnlsen oc so I'm motivated to draw them more often! Same thing with a Lithurnian oc. My main Lithurnian oc at the moment is actually more than half human, so he doesn't look like an alien at all.... much to do!

QUESTION TO FURSUIT MAKERS / FURSUIT HAVERS
General | Posted 7 months agodoes anybody know what kind of material you use for eyelashes/eyelids on fursuit heads? i assumed it was some sort of felt, but definitely a different kind than the one I used. i used just a normal black felt (not craft felt) but it frayed like hellllll. it was also super flimsy and hard to cut out for my suit which has big eyelashes and face markings for Vik. here's a link to what it looks like all frayed at the moment

i'll say i tried to do some research while making my fursuit to figure out what material it was and came up short, but i probably didnt put in that much effort lol which is why im in this situation. anyway if anyone could help that would be great ^_^ even if u dont have or make fursuits and just have an idea of what material i could use that would be great! i still need something fairly flexible as the eye sockets of my fursuit are pretty deep/not flat.

song of the day jan 5th, 2024
General | Posted 11 months agoI'm not quite sure if i'll use journals much, but i love music and find myself wanting to talk about it a lot, or just share my love of it. So i don't know how long i'll keep this up or if i'll do it every day, but i'll use my journals here to share songs of the day :) some thoughts about them, a link to them on youtube, a memory associated with them, whatever ^_^
todays song is:
Goodbye Stranger by Supertramp
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9aykOwwRf-Q
i looove this song so much. its one of those songs thats always been with me since i was a kid. i was definitely raised on 70s and 80s music and its such a wonderful constant. the composition of this song is just so amazing and i love how there are new little elements like the whistles and guitar distortion introduced at such well paced times. as much as I love music from every era, i think musicians in the 70's had some sort of crazy wizard powers that caused them to create some of the best music of all time (it was the weed and acid i think). its a song that has such a wonderful feeling like the hopeful end of a movie. to be honest, i want to direct movies. i went to school for film set design and it only deepened my love for film and desire to create it. i could've gone to film school, but i wanted to build sets. now i want to do both.
music has always been a very important thing for me, helping to anchor my memories, and inspiring most of my art. (the other half of my art is inspired by my dreams, and together music and my dreams make up my drive to create) i have a story in mind this would be the perfect ending song to. maybe someday i'll get to make it into a short film, who knows!
emotion: looking out the window on an overnight train, the sun is rising, you're hopeful for the future, and you've been fundamentally changed by your journey.
