This year's FF was quite a rollercoaster. Started out good when we got there safe and nice and early and everyone was actually preregistered this year! Then took a nosedive when I looked for the story I had truly believed had been accepted for the conbook...and didn't find it. Guess that email full of praise was just a general one and next time I should just ask and not assume. Then things went right back up again as my best friend  aurilyn won Attendee Guest of Honor this year, so awesome the Shuri's Furries Pack is gaining fame if not fortune! We were very lucky to have  okidoki visit our con this year, and who almost had to stay much longer than originally intended due to the HURRICANE that cut our own visit short this year. We didn't get as much face time with the coyote or his wife Askari as we wanted, it's hard to pin those two crazy furs down! Many other friends were missing this year too, it seemed. Unless you were all hiding under the bed...nm. Next year, we will try to do more things like the masquerade and perhaps try for artist ally again, since there were way more hours of nothing to do than was healthy (I mean that, I ate way too much candy!). Another plus, we discovered the Friendly's down the road, only took 3 years, and I'm happy to add lemon chicken to the very short list of foods  shuri will eat. Unfortunately our halloween costumes didn't pan out this year, Shuri's was too awkward due to fursuit compatibility issues and mine due to the fact that flashing in public is frowned on. Would have been fine if not for that.

So yeah, rollercoaster. Now back to real life, bleh. Gotta love that post-con depression. Oh well, can always work on a plan to get myself or Boewin elected for next year's AGOH, muahaha!

Yay another con, another notch on the bedpost lol. We had a great time at FF this year, with Shuri taking the lead and with me in tow, camera in hand. I wish I could have done more personally but I had a wicked cold and it was all I could do to keep from coughing, wheezing, snuffling and ruining every moment on film. Major props goes to my friends  Aurilyn and her mate, especially Auri who racked up...was it 17 hours? Some outrageous number of volunteer hours. Go fox/lynxie!

Have to say I'm getting some major fursuit envy. It's hard when everyone loves your mate and you get left in the shadow, even if you do sport a cool mask every now and again. Having one's tongue dry up and blow away when confronted by so many strangers (to me) doesn't help my popularity I know. But there is a certain cliqueness about fursuiters I have noticed, though it's not nearly as bad as cheerleader or say....horsepeople cliques. I will be making my own fursuit, I don't really care if I'm an old lady when I shuffle into it if the price is right. I just hope the basement stops flooding and getting my foam wet! Moving it doesn't help, the floor just floods in that spot first wherever it is.

The best moment for me at FF was going to the Writing Short Fiction forum, run by....(insert name here). Sorry will give credit to you when I'm awake. As everyone who knows my fursona name of NovelWolf knows, I'm a writer, at least I try to be. This meeting really helped me get past a bad writers patch for me. I had paralyzed myself with fear and nitpickyness about my writing but (insert name here) just said write and don't worry about it till the story's done. And that so obvious sounding piece of advice was what I needed. I really hope to be done with my book by the end of the year, if I ever get a chance to sit down what with work and pets and cleaning the house and...well life! But like what we writers say, 'If Twilight was a success, any piece of crap can be too'.

Finally preregistered for AnthroCon, those who were biting their claws in worry can stop. I'm number 1849, and am registered under my Shuri's Mate name, NovelWolf. So to all of those whom I am hoping to meet at AC, yay! I'll be the one in the ears and tail holding a video camera, trying not to drop it while convulsed in laughter from Shuri's antics.

So spring is finally here...I hope. And with it is Shuri's new fursuit! YAY! I thought it might be interesting for you guys to hear a few thoughts from a first time fursuit handler as she learns just what that means.
My first task is making sure he gets into the suit without harming it or himself: zippers plus fur equals possible disaster! After he is safely within the suit my main task is to warn him of obstacles...or not, depending on the humor to injury factor heehee.
Seriously, it can be difficult to judge what he really needs to be told about and what he can handle. He's not a blind stumbling half wit no matter how much he may look it....LOL just kidding he's doing a great job. I will probably be superfluous by June and am so proud to think so.

Today I am another year older, though far from wiser. This has been one of the best birthdays I've had in a long time, especially since my grandfather died of lung cancer exactly two years ago on my birthday. This is the first birthday I have had someone special to share it with, and I am very very grateful for that. I also got to cuddle a huskie puppy, which was totally awesome, and the picture will be posted soon heehee. I hope everyone here had a great new year, and that their hangovers have faded by now!

I think this has been the greatest year of newness ever for me. I got a new job (and keeping it in this economy), a new home, a new love, and a new world of furryness I had only vaguely knew existed. And most of that happened within the last six months of 2009! I also got great new friends to share it all with! How could 2010 top that? Well increasing the crazy factor as we start hitting furcons for the first time would be a great start. Getting an avatar for myself for this site would be nice (sneaks a peek at the pile of rejected drawings of cat faces). Hey cats are hard! Doesn't help that my own live model keeps sticking his head under the bathroom facet whenever I politely beg for him to just STAY STILL FOR FIVE MINUTES!

So I'm all revved up to start my first fursuit head...and looking from the pile of bills to the computer screen where lots of fabulous fur is being offered. Then back to the bills. Sigh, I think my first head will be made of paper mache or something. At least having no monies right now will force me to start small, instead of jumping full into a project which I know very little about. I remember Greifer's panel at FurFright where he was talking about finding treasures amongst trailer park trash, and I think I might try that route. Not necessarily trailer parks, though God knows there are plenty of those in Virginia. -lol- Anyhow, just rambling, killing time before bed.
