How a little Fox Inspired who I am today
Posted 4 years agoI had a very secluded childhood, and not very many friends. We had moved around quite a bit, but always stayed in British Columbia, Canada. Nature was always at my doorstep, and was a huge inspiration in my choice of artistic creativity iv'e adapted to over many years. I remember we lived at Bridge Lake when it became apparent. We had a one acre property with a portion of the lake behind the cabin and a section of the forest as well.I was infatuated with the fact that the beautiful aspects of nature can be copied and drawn onto paper, so I often carried a sketchbook and pencil with me whenever I had walked about our property. There wasn't much else for me to do after getting home from the long bus ride home after school. We had a library and a small locally owned store not very far from the bus stop. It was quite a walk to and from our house after school and at night time there weren't any streetlights on the highway. Wild animals such as coyotes and cougars were known to prowl the area so I did not venture out at night. One wild animal however, became a friend and inspiration over time. A little, shy orange colored fox! I had noticed she started to follow me from a distance some mornings on my way to school. It had almost seemed as if she was looking out for my safety, or curious about me in some way. I started to see her more often as weeks went by, her den must have been close to my home because she was often near the lake in our backyard. I often went fishing with a close family friend and had an abundance of trout, so I had decided to feed her and left some out that night for her to eat. It was gone by morning. When i had gone out to see, I heard a rustling in the brush close to the edge of the lake I was especially panicked, until I had realised it was the fox! Less than 3 Meters away from me!! Her beautifully orange fur glistening in the morning sun reflecting from across the lake. Her majestic muzzle and fluffy orange and white colored tail, I was in awe. Just when I thought things couldn't get any better, I had wearily stuck my hand out and to my surprise she came a little closer and sniffed my hand! Excited and scared I moved my hand closer to her forehead next to her right er to try and pet her fur. To my surprise she let me briefly before making an odd excited sounding yip before darting back into the Eastern side of our property. That was one of the main moments in my life that ignited my love and passion for the beauty of animals. From that day forward, I had spent countless hours at the library reading books on drawing Foxes, Wolves and Cougars. I would often sit in the trees to watch and draw things from an overview. Drawing nature had become a solace in my everyday life. The fox and I became close friends over time, and she was a major part of my childhood.. I could go on with stories and personal experiences but i will save those for another time. The point is, Kairo the Fox Made me who I am today! And I will always Love her..
