Progress for Canfurence and Otakuthon photos

It's been a busy weekend. I've finished post-processing the photos from Canfurence and Otakuthon. But before I can upload the photos, I need to have them properly tagged. After all, if I put my watermark on the photos so everyone knows who I am, returning the favour for the costumers is only fair, right?
I regret not having taken people's names down during the convention, because I wanted to not speak in my newest fursuit. Because of that, and having recently started employment again, the photos from Canfurence might take longer than I usually do.
I will also likely need help identifying some fursuiters - more details to follow.

Pokémon Art Academy 精灵宝可梦绘心教室
Posted 9 years agoGot Pokémon Art Academy a month ago, been using it occasionally. (Since EB Games won't stock any new copies, you can't find it on their website; but you can go to a store and ask for a used copy, or buy a digital copy from the eShop.)
一个月之前入手了 《Pokémon 绘心教室》，之后偶尔在使用。
It takes a lot of time (1-2 hours) to go through each "Novice" level lesson where the game defaults to having an outline for you to trace. And it's time I'm not spending on processing photos
虽然是默认游戏会给你轮廓来描的“初学者”级别，每节课都要好长时间 (1-2小时)，这算是没有在处理照片的时间。
I just don't think I have the commitment to git gud at this. Oh well. At least it's much more than I have played Art Academy for the 3DS. The game gives you a quite complete set of tools for cartoon illustration. (Although Disney Art Academy has better tools and watermark-free export, the export resolution is smaller.)

Posted 9 years ago这是我的 Furfest 2015 兽聚大会报告。你没看错，2015年。其实一回来就用英语写好了，但是因为想要处理照片然后翻译成汉语，然后就推到现在了……Furfest 2016 就要来了，为了不要把大家搞糊涂了，赶在那之前推出来吧。
This is my Furfest 2015 con report. Yes, 2015. I actually wrote the whole thing as soon as I got back, but because I wanted to wait until done with the photos and translate it into Chinese, I eventually deferred it till now... Furfest 2016 is coming, gotta put this out before that, otherwise people might get confused.

Simply so much joy, nothing in the world could compare! Even when things aren't going as planned I had lots of fun. 如此欢乐，世界上没有任何可以比拟！即使计划落空的时候，我也很高兴。
The atmosphere is so friendly, I can't help being a bit friendlies too. I don't know how many times people thanked me for taking their photos. To that I want to say:

Thanks to everybody on staff and attended. Everyone I meet might not be perfect, but all are so approachable, enthusiastic, and truly example of the Furfest code of conduct : “be excellent to each other”. you make the world!

Really. The last journal (spur of the moment) took me better part of an hour. 真的。上一篇日志（心血来潮）几乎用了一个小时。
比起 Twitter 上 140 字的微日志，写长篇文真的很烦，特别是还要用双语写，时间变成双倍。Compared to 140 character microblogs on Twitter, it's such a hassle to write long form, especially bilingually, which doubles the time. I dread the day I learn how to French... 学会法语会不会更糟糕？

Posted 9 years agoBinge-read the fifth book of Maoyu Maoh Yuusha for the umpteenth time tonight. 今天晚上第不知道多少次再次高速阅读了《魔王勇者》第五集。
The appendix had the author of the book discussing creating novels with the author of novelizations of Earthbound and Dragon Quest. 附录中该书的作者与《Mother》 《勇者斗恶龙》小说版的作者谈论创作小说。
《魔王勇者》是一部很奇特的小说。Maoyu is a strange novel. Posted 10 years agoI'll be leaving for Toronto tomorrow. Will stay there for a couple of days, then leave for Windsor on Wednesday the 23rd. Returning to Ottawa on the 26th.

Question for people who drive, especially Ontarians

I have a class G1 license in Ontario, which permits me to drive with an instructor, or someone who has driven in Ontario for a number of years. I need to take a road test to get a class G2 license, which permits me to drive by myself, and after a year, another road test for a full class G license.
Now that my parents are here, they'd like to help me to get a driver's license. Unfortunately, while they've both had a decade of experience driving in China, neither currently has a license in Ontario. Since I can't drive to the test alone, I will likely need to rent a driving instructor and their car to the test.
I wanted to attend driving school anyway, so I can become a better driver, but I've been putting finding a driving school off. Perhaps I should just choose one that's closest to me. Ministry of Transportation approved beginner driving courses must have 20 hours of classroom time and 10 hours behind-the-wheel. But it's hard to judge the effectiveness of the instruction for me. Which is why I'd like to ask those questions, hopefully they'll help me to decide whether driving school is worth the tuition.

I want to get some feedback before going ahead and posting the rest of the photo.
我希望在贴出剩下的照片之前先得到一些反馈。
First is that I've started putting watermarks on my photo. I want my photos to be attributed, so that I can be recognized as a photographer, however measly my skills are. Asking other people to write my name doesn't seem to help that much, sometimes they plain forgot or just "found it on FA" or "on Facebook". But I also don't want to have watermarks that are so big, conspicuous, and distracting, that they get in the way of enjoying the photos. So to that end, I'd like to have some feedback on the watermarks, even if that's just "it's fine, I don't mind".
首先我开始在照片上加水印了。我希望我的照片带有署名，这样我能够作为一名照相师得到认可，即使我的照相技术如此微薄。请求别人写名字并没有什么用，有时候他们就忘记了，或者“在FA上找到”或 “在Facebook上找到”那些照片。但我也不希望我的水印如此的大，如此显眼，以至于让人们不能欣赏照片的内容。所以我希望在水印方面能够得到一些反馈，即使是”没问题“。
Also is that I've been tweaking images in a raw processor. I'd start from the camera's default way of reproducing light and dark, and usually that's enough. But then I might see that the subject is all white and make the whole photo brighter, or make the colors pop a little more, or crop the image so it balances better. It's not quite "photoshopping" as I'm using RawTherapee (not gonna pay for Photoshop if I can get Free Software with Freedom included) and I'm not doing any local manipulation of the image; but one thing that can change the interpretation of the image dramatically, is the white balance, or what color is considered "white" in the photo. This can make the whole photo warmer or cooler, and in warm hotel lighting, it's hard to say what's the "correct" color without having some kind of reference (which I forgot to bring). On top of that, the "best" color is not necessarily the "correct" color. When in doubt, I've put multiple versions onto Flicker, so please give a comment and let me know which one you like best. :)

I haven't posted anything there yet, since I haven't taken any furry-related photos to post recently. I might go and post some pictures of Pom, though.
And I'm not leaving FA. IMVU hasn't done anything yet, so I don't see any reason to leave. And, despite the deluge of journals last month, most accounts I follow on FA hasn't migrated to Wzl or IB.

I'm currently watching about 350 accounts on FurAffinity (a bit too much, I think), and I've went through all of them trying to see how many have Weasyl or Inkbunny accounts. Of the 350 accounts I watch on FA, just 60 are on Weasyl, and only 19 are on Inkbunny.
我目前正在 FA 上关注350左右个账户 (我觉得有点多)，于是一个一个地看了一下多少有 Weasyl 或 Inkbunny 账户。这350个账户中，只有60个在 Weasyl 上有账户，而 Inkbunny 上只有19人。
To find Weasyl and Inkbunny users in accounts I follow on FA, I searched (manually) through their user profile page and journal page. FA users can add their Inkbunny account to their contact information, but there is no such option for Weasyl, so some users link to their Weasyl account in their profile. Others announce their in Wzl/IB account in journals.
这件事比我想的要麻烦。FA用户可以把他们的 Inkbunny 账户添加到联系方式中，但是不能添加 Weasyl 账户。于是有些用户将他们的 Weasyl 账户放在个人简介中。其他人则在日志中公告他们的新账户。
Of course, this is just one person's anecdote. Many of the 350 are inactive accounts, or multiple accounts held by the same person (for multiple characters, or separate business and personal accounts). It doesn't count people who didn't publish their Weasyl or Inkbunny accounts, people who deactivated their FA account, or people who never had a FA account to begin with. And Inkbunny allowing only people aged 18+ to register, means a lot of minors don't have an account. Not to mention that Recaptcha does not load for Chinese users, so they can't register... (Maybe I should sign up for Pixiv as well?)
当然这只是一个人的经历。350个帐号中，很多是不再活动的帐号，或者是一个人持有的多个帐号 (例如多个角色分别有一个帐号，或者商务个人分两个帐号)。其中没有不在FA公布Weasyl或Inkbunny帐号的人，禁用了FA帐号的人，以及从没有在FA上注册的人。Inkbunny只允许18岁以上用户也意味着许多未成年人不会有帐号。更不用说中国的用户打不开验证码注册不了…… (是不是该注册一个Pixiv帐号了？)
Still, I think it's clear that FA is here to stay. And while the new UI beta is not Ferrox, I can appreciate giving FA a new coat of paint that works well with modern devices.

Midwest Furfest - roommates?
Posted 10 years agoThe convention is still far away, but Midwest Furfest hotel reservations will be open next week!
I'm thinking of booking a room under my name. There are a few things I need to work out, though.
- First is that I'm looking for people to share the room since I don't know anybody going yet. It would cost less to share the room between four people than having one person paying for it all. Then again, I heard the rooms at the Hyatt tend to be in demand... so perhaps I wouldn't need to worry about this one too much.
- Second, to graduate from the masters program I need to be attending a panel given by other graduate students, which happens every Friday morning, a number of times. If I want to finish this requirement in one semester, I can only afford to miss one of these. Or I could go the same number of times in two semesters, but that would mean extra tuition. So I would prefer to arrive on a Friday, but that would be unfair to roommates who go on Thursdays. ... In any case, I don't know if I will need two semesters anyway for my courses, and it's still possible for me to go on Thursday and still finish my studies in one semester. This is just a margin for safety.
- Third, well... attending a convention this far can be costly. Even with other expected expenses, I'm sure I'll have more than enough to go, but I'm having doubts that perhaps it's better to keep the money for a rainy day. On the other hand, I haven't gone to any conventions for a year. Would be nice to finally bring Pom to a major convention for the first time after I got him at Anthrocon 2011, too.
P.S. Of course this would all depend on being able to book a room, which isn't guaranteed since MWFF is very popular!
