RPG Maker VX Ace! A question, then back to work!
Posted 10 years agoAs some of you who watch my mate know, we had been in the process of moving for quite some time. Now, my computer is up and running, I have peace and quiet in a back room, and most of the unpacking is done. I just got my RPG Maker VX Ace up and running again, and have revisited a current problem;
The Lighting, of course. Khaz's lighting affects have been problematic for awhile now. Namely in maps with a lot of cuts to make, there is severe performance issues. I am testing this on a quad core 2.4ghz cpu with 4gb of RAM. This shouldn't be a problem.
So a question to anyone with experience in the program, and the script I am referring to(Khaz's amazing light effects); Do you experience lag on larger interior areas? And what version of windows/hardware specs are you using?
As windows moved on, I ended up moving to Linux. It's great, but the RPGMaker of course doesn't run on it. So I am running an old windows XP partition to work on (As I don't really have 150 or more dollars just lying around just so I can pick up a modern copy of windows for just one program.
Anyway, as always, I'm more than happy to swap ideas about the RPG Maker VX Ace, and also interested in getting quotes for custom art and music as my financial situation improves.
So have fun and stay frisky!

Twilight Hope
Posted 11 years agoSo, I recently submitted an image that talked about my new project, Twilight Hope. This project has consumed all of my time, and the support so far has been incredible. If you like where this project is going, leave a comment, any support is appreciated!
Here's the info I posted with the picture:
So, I said I was going to be uploading written work. Well, not quite. I've been encouraged and supported to instead take my fantasy world and publish it as a game. It is expected to be a year or two or work, and will be purchasable once completed. None of this open beta stuff, or purchasable alpha like every indi game on Steam. Nope, it's done when it's done.
This game will be (as the image implies) aimed at the furry community with the aim of hitting a fairly broad audience. The game will be created on the RPG Maker VX Ace engine and will feature loads of custom art by:
Kalid909 and
FenghuangQilin
It will feature modern concepts such as influence with each the three other members of your 'company' individually, as well as individual Morale, and personal pursuits that all affect the power of their skills and spells. Not to mention of course romance with one of two female party members. Also over four factions that have independent reputation, rank advancement for not only you, but each 'Company' member as well. These factions will include rewards for missions completed and also supplies given to the player at set time intervals based on rank.
The game will feature a targeted 100+ hours of gameplay including side quests which open up with in game time, rank, and/or party members present. Also, random events, quest branches, random loot(from custom tables) from chests, random gold (Within specified ranges) within chests, and many secret areas that require special tools. Between that last feature, and the fact that locations can advance as the game goes on, will give reason to revisit places and keep in touch with some NPCs.
Each feature noted here is all already tested on small scale and can be implemented with confidence(And in many cases the framework already is). Many more features and updates will be uploaded here in journals, screenshots, and/or ingame art. This account is now a sort of blog.
Keep in touch for more on Twilight Hope, coming out in: when it's ready. ^^
Other than art and music assets, and canned scripts from the VX Ace community (All credit will be included with the game), I am developing this game by myself. Six to ten hours of every day is going into this project, and I have set within myself that I will finish this. The encouragement from my family and friends has been incredible, and the results on the features I've discussed here are highly encouraging, because right now I am working on the database and implementing the hardest back end variables and events to assure they all work before the enter deeply into the design.
Also, VERY select friends and family will be receiving early alpha stages for the sole purpose of testing and helping me locate bugs and typos. I want this to be clean, and massive.
Wish me luck!

The Sky Was Falling! . . . Seriously, like, it was...
Posted 11 years agoWell, A lot of stuff happened that dragged me away from my favorite social media outlet and all my little works of awesome. But, it's sorted itself out (Enough) and I have gotten myself back online with a digital piece to show how exactly I've been relieving stress- Skyrim! Poisoning dem non-khajiit and making the insane, racist, un-god-fearing lands of Skyrim safer for all who 'are' Khajiit! (I mean, seriously you Nords, dragons attack you and your like "Well, its just that time again." I mean, they are the physical shape of your GOD! With your legends saying the FIRST SON of Akatosh is going to screw up your face! Show some respect you mead-sucking jar-heads!)
Predator: Chapter Two; Ambush (Update and Suggestions!)
Posted 12 years agoI'm finally back on track with writing it chapter two, and I'm working through the concept phase of my second story. After predator's second chapter is released, I'll be posting a journal talking about my next story, and taking suggestions on how you would like this story to contrast Predator. After the raffle I got a lot of feedback, and some made mention that they enjoyed my writing style, but the story themes weren't really for them. My next story will be intended to contrast predator and give an idea to how broad my written work can be.
Back to Chapter Two: Chapter Two is right now in a phase of development that is still early enough to adjust. If any of you reading this have suggestions on how you would like the story to evolve, this is a great time to give your thoughts! You can either comment to this journal, or send me a note! I'm writing this story for both myself 'and' FA, so I'm more than happy to adjust it along the way to make it as fun to read as it is to write!
Also, on my page you can keep track of my progress with each of my works. As I finish one of my five phases of development (Concept, First Paragraph, Rough Draft, Polishing, Completed.) I'll update my user page.
And why is the first paragraph it's own phase? I don't know about other writers, but the opening paragraph is incredibly important to me, and is the hardest phase of the story to complete. The polishing phase is time consuming sure, but not as hard as the first f-ishing paragraph..
Enjoy!

Delays
Posted 12 years agoWell, Predator, and my other story will likely be getting pushed back a week or two. Me and my mate just got a new tablet, and I've been dying to design my fursona, ID image, and Icon. I like Nidorino, but I'm getting darn tired of that pink monstrosity representing me as my icon! Then I've also got the lawn to mow, and a tree fell over in my lawn... Time to get out the chainsaw!
All of this shouldn't take more than one or two weeks to clear up. Than I'll be looking to post Predator Chapter two, and the opening chapter (Perhaps a formal prologue) of my next story. After that, some Pokemon themed art featuring a different take on the prehistoric theme of Aerodactyl. Probably release my next chapter to whichever of the two stories works out first, and than finish my picture of the feral starring in my second, less violent story.
I love both digital art, and writing, and now with a tablet, I can properly do both!

Chapter Two: Ambush
Posted 12 years agoI've just started "Predator: Chapter Two; Ambush", which is likely to be about a week or two from now before completion.
Ambush will pick up a couple of days after Instincts, with the menacing Cougar on the hunt once again! This time, he chooses an interestingly different setting as he prowls for a much more deliberate target among the crowed. Using his interesting set of primitive 'social' skills, he navigates the challenges and benefits the public grounds toward his purpose. However, a surprising detour will cause him to change priority after the blood starts to run, forcing him to a place he'd very-much rather not go. . .
Who had the brilliant idea to start a raffle and gather opinions, I was able to learn a lot about how I would like to proceed with the Predator stories, as well as other separate story pieces.
I would like to give special thanks to one person in particular so far, who took the time to offer some short, but very helpful commentary on Instincts.
"As for the first chapter of the story. Impressive! Bleak, but very impressive. The imagery is pronounced without being overwhelming or too wordy though there were a couple points where it seemed slightly confusing to the scene while he was still in the truck, but aside from that it flowed smoothly and made for quite an intense read. I'm definitely looking forward to reading more and have watched Kaldravv as well in hopes of seeing more."
His comment was very pleasant to read, informed me of what stood out to him, but equally importantly, it also told me where a weak spot in my story telling was! You can bet I'll be re-reading that section of Instincts over a number more times so I can better present the scene in future works, and likely repair that space with minor edits while I'm at it.
The reason I liked RemyFelis' comment so well is because of the time he took to not only read my story, but also to highlight what stood out positively, and also he gave me a single object to focus on improving! And honestly, one per piece is more than enough to improve with.
So thank you, RemyFelis, And everyone else who commented on the raffle! Especially you Cougar fans! American big cats ftw!

Predator
Posted 12 years agoMy mate told me I should join FA and try my claws here. She said the site was likely to have a audience that would better appreciate the set of skills and interests I have to contribute. After some nudging from my sister as well, I finally decided to give it a shot!
Honestly, so far I'm very optimistic. Enough so it sparked my writing spirit! Writing I would have to say is the better of my artistic skills, and though I never had posted any of my serious work on DA, I always thought about it.
Here on FA, I find that the very premise of the site's artistic focal points became very inspirational. And I decided to do something with said inspiration, in the form of an anthro-based story of violence and predation told over a series of uploads.
Predator
The story will follow the psychological drama of a predatory serial killer as he struggles to survive in a world of vying dictatorial governmental bodies and the people calloused by such unfair conditions. And of course, graphic violence for all those Slasher fans out there.
The story will be well written, though the downloadable rtf file will have superior formatting (As FA doesn't support 'indenting' and text size BB coding that I can find) the description will probably contain a bb coded version of it as well, or at least an introductory piece to show you what you'll be downloading.
The story will be flagged for Violence and intense situations, but otherwise should be pretty clean. Later Predator chapters may also include drug and/or alcohol uses and suggestive themes/mild sexual situations, but I intend to keep it pretty clean all the way through.
This is for you, no-yiff fans! Potential romance, with tasteful 'fade-to-black' skipping over the parts we all know are best left to the imagination anyway! ^^
Hazard Pay
While taking breaks from Predator, I will be working on a science fiction story following a feral by the name of Forte Nyar, a scientist of many skills recently hired to study various projectes for an alien empire near the outer edges of space. The catch is, the station is manned by bipeds, and no one really considered the challenges of accessibility to a quadruped with only semi-apposable thumbs. The working title currently is 'Hazard Pay', but may change as I actually begin writing it.
The story will be more domestic than Predator, but dangerous and intense situations will still play a large part in the story. The story's main focus will be on social drama and dealing with the social and cultural differences between separately evolved anthro and feral cultures. It should prove very interesting to anyone who's ever wondered what living as a feral in a biped's world would be like, or if you just like cynical humor, social drama, and intriguing mystery.
That's right, mystery. I'll be looking to create several threads of intrigue throughout the story, which will tie in elements of uncertainty, subterfuge, and discoveries into fascinating and deadly wildlife!
Hazard Pay will be a very different animal than Predator, obviously, but I think once I get it all together, it will really look nice and read nicer!
I expect Hazard Pay to also be a fairly clean, having many of the same discretionary themes as Predator. Very violent at times, tasteful drug and/or alcohol use, and likewise tasteful suggestive themes and mild sexual situations. After all, there's more than enough yiffy written work on FA, so no harm in adding some 'work safe' stuff you can read if your not into that kind of stuff, or just not in the mood!

So I have pretty high hopes for my upcoming written work! I've included a couple paragraphs of Predator here just to showcase what I'm working on. Enjoy!
A flash of lightning, thunder rolled through the darkened skies. Light, a glow in the distance came into view. Step by step, his pace quickened as more were seen, the lights grew, shadows swelled, his intensity soon paired with overwhelming excitement!
Was the only thought to race through his mind as his mouth slicked with saliva for the first time in countless hours. His tongue clicked against his teeth, his body tensed. It was no question; he had no home, no cash, no family to rely on, only one skill and one calling...
The hooded feline stalked swiftly into the parking lot, pausing briefly. The place was small, unmaintained, the pumps barely sheltered from the rain. The lot as a whole was nearly deserted, the clerk distracted behind the counter being the only soul to be seen on the property. It was perfect...
Setting the archaic metal gas can next to the nearest pump, he knelt down and pulled up the leg of his cargo pants, drawing an eight inch blade from his boot. Turning the blade upward to hide it against his arm, he stalked up to the entrance. His heart quickened, his eyes flared, and his breath stopped as the automated door drifted open. And for a moment, the world seemed to hold still as his eyes reflected the harsh white light of the interior, his ears taking in every subtle sound. Slowly, within the shadows of his hood, emerald eyes turned to the scrawny marsupial beast manning the cash register.
“Welcome to Dugg's Gas-and-Go...” The clerk droned dryly, slumped against the counter, not so much as looking up from his book. “Try not to drip all over the floor...” The last snidely added in a murmur.
Hope you enjoyed it! The whole first chapter (About four pages in my text program.) will be released likely in the next two or three days!
