Moving, again... maybe.
Posted 10 years agoWell, I might be moving. Again. I'm going up to Wisconsin for a second interview next Monday. They're flying me up there for the whole week and to see two plants I applied to. I applied for a production leader (supervisor) position at two different factories within my company. One of them must have liked my phone interview enough to warrant spending company money on sending me up there. I have a feeling I'll have a promotion next week due to the way things have been said to me and information that I've been given about future positions at my current plant.
I don't believe that they'd send me up there for a whole week without offering me the job. I mean, honestly, it's 6 hours away, I could drive up there, have the interview the next day, then drive back. I'm 78% sure that I'm getting the job, I just hope they offer me a choice because I really want the second place I applied to. It's better hours and the factory is a lot nicer from what I hear. I'm not about to turn down a 40-50k supervisor job because I don't like the hours, though. I'll take whatever I can get, I really just need the title and a few years of experience then I can look elsewhere.
I'm super excited to be moving to the mid-west, I'll be like 2-3 hours from Chicago, I'll have a salary job,
can quit and work part-time and do more artz! Things are finally looking up for once.

Update from a while
Posted 10 years agoOkay, so not much has happened since my last update. Good news, however, I only need some hair nets and I can call up the health inspector to come over and approve my house. So that'll be in the next few weeks, woo hoo! Can't wait to get started on that, I'm ready to start working for my self. I haven't given up on it yet!
I've got some freebies I've gotta ship out to a few people, you know who you are, and after that's done I'll start selling it on my website.
That's it for now, I'll put out another update when I'm ready to sell my candy.

Closed Species
Posted 11 years agoIs it me, or does there seem to be more and more "closed" species these days and that they're of rather poor quality? Especially imaginatively, like someone took two animals and thought they could claim all rights to the hybrid. I do hope people realize that there is nothing legally binding to stop others from using said "closed" species. I think its starting to get a bit out of hand. That's all, just a quick rant.
MFM 2014 Post-con Report
Posted 11 years agoOh man, I don't even know where to begin with this one. There's just too much awesome that happened. I met so many people and made a lot of new friends.
I wasn't really sure what to expect from this con, at first. I more went for
zellinfurno because she needed to get her name out there, and what better way than in a small room with about 500-700 people stopping by? She got around 20 commissions and perhaps a few that she'll get post-con. So, that was a huge success.
I'm not from the south, I just moved here this year, and I know absolutely no one around here. So I went in not knowing a single person and left knowing so many. Too many cool people to list, you all know who you are!
I wanted to go to a few panels but didn't go to any due to my eff-ed up schedule. I didn't sleep at night and probably only got like 5 hours sporadically through the day. Damn you 3rd shift!
I also handed out about 100 free samples of my candy. I would have given out more, but I ran out of cards (fun story, the cards I had ordered didn't make it before the con so I had to print some the day before), and I was almost out of candy too. Hopefully that drums up some hype for my future business. http://www.kainesconfectionery.net check it out by the way, it's pretty great.
Also, I know I've said this before, but now it's cemented: I'm gettin a damn fursuit. I will attempt to build one first, and if the head looks like crap I'll just order one. I've already got the foam, I just need the motivation. There were so many good suits at MFM and awesome suiters. The girlfriend has decided she wants one too (I knew she would, she just needed to meet some good fursuiters, not the creeps)
The only real problem that I had with MFM was the internet at the hotel, that's not the convention's fault, but if a hotel plans on hosting a convention, they should at least have a network capable of handling the amount of people they can room. Maybe it's a good thing? But I like adding people on FA, Twitter, Facebook, or whatever right when I meet them, that way it's done and overwith. Now I've gotta go back and wonder who the hell so-and-so is and when I met them. Really hard to do when you were cocked off your ass. Like I said though, only problem I had, and it wasn't too big of a deal.
I know the mate and I will be going back next year, and we're already planning for other conventions to attend!

Been a while
Posted 11 years agoSo it's been quite some time since I posted a journal. A lots happened in the past year. I still check my FA everyday, but I don't ever really have anything to contribute, mostly due to my time being eaten up by work. So here's how it's been thus far.
August of 2013, moved in with some friends so i could work for a production company. The company was a bit new (only a year in business) but the owners have plenty of experience. Unfortunately, they couldn't pay me enough to justify staying there, I should have just moved to Cali, mistake, but we all learn from them. Fun news though, one of the videos I worked on won a Silver Telly, so I am now an award winning cinematographer and editor! hooray! one more thing for the resume.
I paid to have my mate
flown up to live with me. She's still with me and I definitely love her with all my heart.
September - December, moved back to CT with my mate, started working through a temp agency at the old company I used to work for, and that was pretty much it.
December 2013, decided I wanted to join the army. I vowed I would lose weight so I could. Zell and I decided to move to TN so we could stay with her family until I enlisted; mostly due to the fact that certain members of my family were starting to get a bit hostile.
January - May 2014, made the move to TN. I managed to snag a job at a injection molding factory. The pay is nothing to write home about, but it actually pays the bills. Student loans suck.
February, Found out that eczema is a disqualifier for the military! well there goes that plan!
June - on the hunt for an apartment!
Past year seems so much easier when written down in short form, but it was rather difficult, and still is, especially these last few months. Zell's family is basically a bunch of christian zealots. She hasn't found work yet. A lot of drama going on. Basically, we're gonna get out and get our own place ASAP. Been waiting for her to get a job so we could like, actually eat... but privacy and peace of mind are important too.
So what's the plan now? Definitely not stay here for the rest of our lives. When the lease is up on whatever place we have, we're headed west to Cali. We're going to save as much as possible (goal: 10k, minimum goal 5k) and sell all of our shit and head out with nothing more than a bag of clothes and our laptops. Not that I have much to sell anyway. I also plan on trading in my SUV for something a little more gasoline friendly during the course of the year.
I'm also constantly applying for jobs. Something has to bite eventually. And if I do land something during the next year, I will gladly break my lease to get out of here.
I know there comes a time when everyone's gotta knuckle down and roll up their sleeves, and I'm doing it right now. This isn't what I was meant to do though. I didn't spend four years of my life learning for nothing.
My biggest regret is not just heading to LA and chancing it with the little cash that I had saved up. Now I've gotta start from scratch.
Sorry I haven't drawn anything for quite some time. I do a few sketches occasionally, but rarely have I wanted to sit down and draw. Especially working a 3rd shift job with super crazy overtime hours.

Post NH Trip update
Posted 12 years agoI used to love going to New Hampshire. I've been going up to my uncle's place once a year where a whole bunch of us guys would just escape for the weekend. Been doing this for about 9 or 10 years. I think this was the first time where I actually wished that I had just stayed home.
To start things off, I have to drive the truck up while everyone takes their motorcycle. This I don't have a problem with, I'm not all that much into driving for 7 hours on my bike. I'd much rather take the highway and cut it down to 3, but everyone always takes the back roads. So, the problem that I do have, is that my bike fell over in the trailer, leaked gas down the tank, and it has a dent in it now. Ok, shit happens. It sucks, but I can live with it. Not like it's an expensive $20k bike or something, it's my first bike, things like this are supposed to happen. What really pisses me off, is the fact that my grandfather insists that it's my fault even though he's the one who secured the straps down. They weren't down tight enough, the wheel turned and it fell over. Now, I'll admit I should have double checked them before hitting the road, but come on old man, own up to what you did. It's partially your fault making me believe that it's secured enough.
Next up, there was only 6 of us there this weekend. Usually there's about 8 or 10, but no one really has the time or wants to go anymore. Not to mention some people that haven't been invited back. Then come saturday, two of them left early. One because he had work, the other because his back was acting up. When just my brother and I were sitting at camp, it was kinda boring. Not a big deal, but as less people go, it makes me want to go less also.
Now, when you go camping, you expect to bring the grills and cook some food while you're there right? I did too. That's what we've always done, and sometimes go out to eat at the local places. Well, not this year. All but one meal was at a restaurant. Of course, I was responsible for my brother and I, so I was paying for two people while everyone else only had to worry about themselves. I'm trying to fucking save money here, not blow it all on food. Instead of us all chipping in to get some cheap food and cook it at camp, we're spending money at every turn. I swear I blew at least $200 on food alone, and that was with me getting the cheap stuff! Last time I let my grandfather pack the truck. The grills weren't packed, neither were the axes.
Now the icing on the cake. The old man's shoulder starts bothering him, it's been doing this every so often for the past month. He decides he wants to take the truck back and trailer his bike. So I have to ride back with my uncle. First off, he made extra sure that his Harley was nice and secured on the trailer. Extra ropes and even some cloth to make sure all the paint was fine where the ropes/straps were. So I had to ride back for seven hours. It's ok, because at least my uncle is cool and doesn't drag his ass. But I lost the clip-ons for my glasses not even 30 minutes from my house. So now I have to shell out the money to get new ones... if they even carry my model any more.
All in all, I think this will be my last trip up to New Hampshire. It seems I have less and less fun each year. I'm gonna save myself the time and money. I'd much rather have worked Friday so I got my full paycheck. I guess what they say is true. Hindsight is 20/20.
I try not to bitch and moan about stuff, but this on top of shit going on at home really makes me need to vent. Long story short, I need to get the fuck out of this house and away from my family ASAP.

NH again
Posted 12 years agoTime for the yearly trip to New Hampshire. Woop woop! Gonna putz around on the motorcycle and swim in the cold ass river while drinking beers around the camp fire.
What's with these jobs?
Posted 12 years agoSo i've applied to like 20 or so jobs related to my field and haven't heard a single damn word. *le sigh* hopefully I find something when I get to LA.
Want some art done?
Posted 12 years agoSo my girlfriend
is looking to do some work. This is pretty much the first time she's ever done commissions so expect beginner level stuff. Not that she's a bad artist, I think she's great when she puts her mind to it, but like I said, it'll be her first time working with a client.
PM me and I'll have her cut you a deal because I don't think she should be charging full price for her work at this stage, depending on what the work is of course.

Every little bit helps, even if that's just spreading the word. You'll have my eternal thanks and a mention on the page, or even in the film itself.
Thanks,

Furfright Post-Con
Posted 13 years agoFF was fun for the most part. Kicked it with my homies, played the boombox, played some boardgames, won a MTG tourney (I was the only one to register!), got some cool pins, and had fun as always.
Spent most of it in a drunken state of mind, but hey, that's what I go to FF for, to unwind with my friends and have lots of laughs.
Wish I had decided to relieve my wallet of some of its money and got a badge done on Saturday, I decided on Sunday to have one done, but I kinda half-way knew that the artist I wanted wouldn't be taking anymore. Sure enough that was true, but hey, I used the leftover money to buy me some pins and food on the ride home.
Wish I didn't have to leave Sunday night, but I've got class tomorrow and can't skip it. Oh well.
Not sure if I'll be at FF2013 or not, way too early to determine that what with me moving to California and all at the end of summer.
Well, that's really all i have to say, got drunk and had a good time, met some cool new people and blah blah blah you know the spiel.
Peace.

Posted 13 years agoSo even though everyone outside loved my boombox, the staff don't seem to care too much for it. Hopefully things will lighten up tomorrow

Last day before classes start
Posted 13 years agoWell, i'm at my new apartment, i'm friends with one of the guys, the other two i don't know. But from what i can tell they're real nazi about their food. Not like i'm gonna clean 'em out, just need a couple of eggs boys. Ugh. More food takes up more space, but whatever, that gives me permission to be the same way. Everything unpacked, classes (mostly) straightened out and my thursdays and fridays empty, so i'll only have to have my work shifts covered for whatever shennanigans i may have planned *cough* furfright *cough*
Got some stuff i gotta pick up, mostly a mouse for my lappy cause i lost mine, but i still have the dongle plugged in lol. hopefully it'll turn up somewhere, most likely back home.
That's all for now i guess.

Greetings from California!
Posted 13 years agoSo i've been in California for the past two weeks, my flight leaves tomorrow at 11pm (oh joy). So what am I doing so far from home? Well, I went to Rhythm & Hues, a visual effects company, Sony Imageworks, Dreamworks animation, and... wait for it... wait for it.... Blizzard Entertainment! We also had visits from several effects artists, animators, directors, editors, etc. So yes, this was a "class" but it was more like a "learncation." So I will most definitely be moving out this way after I graduate this coming year. Did a lot of walking to and from stores/food places, went to Universal for fun and visited Hollywood Blvd. I had a great time and absolutely loved it out here.
That's all for now, this message brought to you by Kane.

Woah, haven't done anything in a while
Posted 13 years agoSup everyone? Been pretty dormant lately. Kind of in an artistic slump, actually just a slump in general that I'm hoping to break over the summer. I plan on making some cash and building my portfolio. That means my youtube will get some much needed attention also! Also, motorcycle adventures to be had!
Stay tuned for more.
Stay tuned for more.
Spring Break Assessment
Posted 13 years agoMeh. Nothing extraordinary happened. Nothing bad either. Just hung out at home, did my taxes, played some D&D with the family, and did some work. It was alright. Relaxing and calm.
I still don't get it
Posted 13 years agoI just don't *shrugs*
Back to College
Posted 14 years agoWell, it's that time again. Gotta pack up my room and head on back to NY. Syracuse is only a 4 hour drive away, but it's boring as hell. Not much has happened since the chrimbus update. I didn't finish my bike seat, searched high and low for the right sized rivets, but they just didn't exist so last night I settled on slightly bigger ones and I'll just have to drill the holes out. I can finish that in March when I'm back for spring break.
I dunno if I mentioned it, but my alcoholic ROTC roommate is abroad (YAY!) and I wont be dealing with him. But, just the other day I heard from my new roommate. This guy seems pretty cool and I may actually get along with him. My old roommate left a mess in the apartment (I left before him) and my new roomy texted me about Mt. Cardboard and I told him I'd help him clean it up tomorrow. To which he replied that we need to make box armor. That is a big plus in my book and he's already on my good side heh.
Well, that's it for now, like I said nothing really interesting happened this past week.

Chrimbus Update
Posted 14 years agoTL;DR version available
Holidays are finally over. whoop whoop. I've still got about a week and a half left until I head back for school, but I may just head back as early as possible. It's getting rather boring here at home. Aside from helping out with whatever needs to be done, I just mostly spend my time playing videogames. None of my friends are home, they're all off in warmer climates or back in school or elsewhere. I figure I'm better off heading back and just do the same thing except with better internet (can't even play Live here dammit D:<)
And now for the winter update.
Okay, for those of you that actually read what I say, you may recall that I had my break all planned out and some fun stuff and work ready. Well, none of it happened. I didn't go camping because my brother got into some serious trouble at school (which has been resolved [mostly] now) and I was planning on taking him. Staffing source basically blew me off and never called back with a job. And every time I tried to call no one answered. I even went down to their office twice and they were closed! Mid fucking day they were closed! So no job. Which means no money, which basically cut everything I wanted to do short because I have no money for spare fuel.
Then there was some family drama that I'm not gonna get into, I'll just say that I'll be glad when I'm done with college.
This, however, isn't to say that this entire break was horrible, no this was just the first two weeks. Christmas was alright. Got to see the family, got a shit ton of wool socks and other clothes. My dad got be this really cool hand-made all wood M2 Bradley (tracks and everything is made of wood and the bitch is heavy). Grandparents got me a new helicopter to replace the one that I had that doesn't work anymore and is beyond my knowledge to repair. I also got a $100 gift card to price chopper so I'm buying a shit ton of steaks and other meats when I get back to college (hooray I can eat actual food!).
New year's was fun, perhaps the best I've had so far. Thank you
and co. for a great time. It's still too bad there wasn't any snow, I was really looking forward to sledding.
The past few days have been kinda meh. I get up, do something (lately it's been fixing up a TV stand so we can give it to my dads girlfriend), eat, go to the dump and hope there some good xmas bounty to take home, then come back and rot my brain on my xbox hooked up to this kick ass HD projector I borrowed from the equipment cage for over break.
I've just started working on the passenger seat for my motorcycle. I had to drill out all the rivets and pull the leather off (which was a pain in the freaking ass) then shave the foam back a couple of inches. It's a bit better now and feels like it wont dig into my back. I've got the cover back on, but now I've gotta buy some rivets, stretch the cover over so it doesn't look like shit, rivet it back on, and it's done. Then I can finally put my saddlebags on and someone can ride bitch. I'm mostly doing it for the bags though, wearing a backpack is annoying and puts strain on your back after riding for two or more hours.
Oh, and one more thing I decided to do to my bike. On the right side, one of the seat bolts snapped off inside of the hole (this was not from me, it was one of the two previous owners) and I wanted to get it out, finally. So I started to drill into the broken bolt. Snapped the bit. Whoopsie, no big deal, but now it's gotta be replaced. So I get a bigger bit. Managed to drill through the bolt with the bigger bit. Alls good so far. Now I've gotta hand crank the easy-out into it. Well, this part is a bit more difficult, the bolt wont budge. Used all my force and.... snapped the easy-out inside of the bolt hole. Couldn't drill it out because the drill battery doesn't like to hold a charge for long, so this has been put on hiatus. On the bright side, it's not like I can make the problem any worse, only one bolt has been holding my seat on for the longest time.

Posted 14 years agoI get to go to traffic court in Binghamton, NY. Oh joyous day! :/
And just to say I'm guilty to a lesser penalty. I was kinda hoping my first speeding ticket would at least be in my home state so I didn't have to drive four hours out of my way. Oh well.
Remember those old "Ernest goes X" movies? Well, this is Kane Goes to Court, in theaters today. Buy some popcorn, it's gonna be a real entertainer.
