Feeling a Little Deflated
Posted 11 years agoThis past holiday really took a lot out of me emotionally.
Thanksgiving itself always used to be such a happy time for my family on both sides. At home on my mother's side, we would always cook a big dinner and the rest of the family would come over throughout the day and join us to eat. On my dad's side, my dad would come in for a week, go hunting with my grandpa, and when Thanksgiving came around, they would cook a big dinner as well.
Over the past few years it has just gotten progressively more depressing. My mother's family slowly drifted apart and less and less people showed up to dinner. This year, absolutely no one showed up. I couldn't even bear to visit my grandparent's this year simply because of what we found out last year. (For those who don't know, I do have a journal that goes in depth with this, but for the sake of time, my father went missing during a fishing trip back in 2009, and just a week before last Christmas, a couple of hunters found his remains on the lake bed.)
Apart from the holiday itself, I had to go to the doctor for a rash on my leg that I've had for well over a year now. I went in for it before and they told me it was ringworm and gave me some stuff to put on it. That never helped, so I had to go back. Now they're telling me I might have eczema. It's not something I really want to have, but it's not out of the realm of possibility for me to have it. My grandmother on my dad's side also has it. They gave me some pills and some steroid cream and so far it's clearing up pretty well. I still don't know for sure whether it's ringworm or eczema, neither do the doctors yet, but they're setting me up an appointment with a dermatologist to get it looked at.
On top of all this, my step-grandmother was admitted to the hospital and has been there for almost two weeks. She went in for chest pains and as things progressed, her heart ended up stopping twice. She had a temporary pacemaker put in and is doing better, but we found out she's in stage 4 kidney failure. We think it was her medicines that caused her heart to stop, but I really don't know.
I tend to turn to my friends for support with heavy things like this, and one in particular that really could have helped me get through it shoved me away for seemingly no reason. I wear my heart on my sleeve so her doing that to me out of nowhere really hit me hard. I tried to get her to talk it out with me and she just blew me off.
It hurts knowing that someone you used to be so close to won't even give you the time of day anymore. But I've come to terms with the fact that those who won't be there for you in times of need aren't really worth spending your time on to begin with.
During my time away I went through a very deep depression. I couldn't function, couldn't eat, couldn't do anything for three days straight. I stayed locked away in my room just laying in bed. I was not well.
Time heals all wounds though, and I am coming out of this slowly but surely. I sincerely apologize to everyone, commissioners especially, for being away. I'll be putting my nose to the grindstone and working harder than ever on things I need to do.BF Coms!

Posted 11 years agoI took an unexpected mini break before my work weekend started so I didn't get around to choosing a freebie winner(s) yet. I'm still not sure how far I'll go with them, (sketch, color, shaded, etc.) it'll all depend on my hip and how much sitting in one position it can take.
I should have that taken care of early this week. I feel so wrong not being able to sit down and draw, so I've got a lot of pent up artsy-emotions.

Posted 11 years agoI think I'm going to have to instate a new policy regarding payments. I keep running into some bumps that are beginning to irk me.
I'm very easy going and I don't mind if payment is a little slow to get together on the commissioner's end, I understand, I just need to be told. But when I'm left in the dark, it really bothers me. So far I've had one person completely bail out and seemingly drop off the planet (hope they're ok and they didn't fall too far into space) when I had my "half-and-half" payment system on a YCH a few months ago. I understand that sometimes this will happen in the art world and I'll just have to make due when it does. Some people actually have to make a living off of selling art instead of doing it just as a hobby. I myself am not personally to that point yet, but I do know that sometime in the future I will be. So when people bail out or don't let the artist know that payment might be slow, it really hits the artist hard. At least when they know, they can rearrange their schedule to make up for lost work time. Time is money and money is housing, food, clothes, necessities, medical care, etc.
Maybe I'm just being a little paranoid here, but I know I'll feel more comfortable conducting business this way.
So to try and prevent further bumps in this long road, I think I'm going to have to cut the half-and-half method all together and only accept payment in full at the beginning of a commission. YCHs/auctions will be all up front as well. It's not entirely fool-proof, I'll praise the day when someone finds out a rock solid way of conducting business online, but it will help cut back on some of the frustration. Many artists do it this way already so it shouldn't be too big of a change.
Woo, that was more than I intended to write. So sorry it was so much ^^ Also, I have removed some submissions that have not yet been paid for. It was my mistake to upload them before payment was received.
tl;dr- Don't bail out on artists, that's really a really crappy thing to do. If payment is delayed, tell the artist so they can adjust. I'm changing my payment policy for all commissions to be paid all before, YCHs/auctions included.

Posted 11 years ago;n; Work destroyed me this past week.
We had our annual Halloween Party and I square to goobs there were nearly 200 kids that came in for it. On the plus side, Batman was there with Batgirl!
I'm sorry for not being very active in the meantime though. The only time I've spent on the computer has been to work on commissions.

I have a couple of them finished and ready to post! I need to check in with one commissioner and then I should have another finished just in time for Halloween!

WELL that little outage set me back a bit in terms of commissions. I'll be getting to work on those as soon as I have gathered up all my information again.
I'll need to do a warmup doodle or two to get back into the swing of things, so if you have a character you want sketched out, feel free to post a ref and I just might draw them! Kind of like a welcome back gift I suppose? :DWill be gone until Tuesday (Birthday!)

Posted 11 years agoHaving a laptop has it's perks.
But when it's your only form of computer, it makes working kind of hard.
What I'm getting at is I have a very.. Awkward setup in order for me to draw. I have two options that I switch through just to get comfortable enough to draw.
1: I sit my laptop in front of me and lay my tablet across my legs.
2: I lean back and put my laptop on my lap and lay my tablet over the keyboard.
Both of these options are fine, but only for short periods of time. I can only stand being like that for an hour or two at most before my back, shoulders, and hips start to ache horribly.
I used to have a desktop, but unfortunately, it gave out on me a few years ago. A friend of mine looked at it and said the motherboard was fried but he could salvage the hard drive for me. So I can get my old stuff back! That's the good news.
This same friend has offered to help me build a new computer that is much more suited for my needs. But... The total cost is about $650-$700.
I really desperately need to get myself a new desktop. And I'd love to have the help of a close friend guide me along in what to buy.
So...
I'll be opening up commissions this month. A journal with more information will be made when I am ready to start accepting commissions.Busy Weekend

And I don't work weekends :D
This is just a little update on my work schedule. I've got two big commissions going on right now and will not be able to resume working on them until after Sunday. Real life job has me scheduled out the butt for weekends since school is going on.
So until late Sunday/early Monday, I'll be very scarce. When I come back, I'll stream work and answer any notes that need answering.

I do. A lot actually. I'm physically and mentally exhausted, and yet I still have a hundred ideas going through my head all at once.
I think I might stream tomorrow and get some of these ideas down. I'm just too worn out tonight to stream. ^^;Zoo Trip
Posted 11 years agoSo I guess I'm taking a trip to the zoo today. Not sure how it'll go seeing as how things with me and my guy haven't necessarily been... Great. It's an overnight trip too. So I'm kind of nervous about it.
Heads Up for the week + Rambles

Tomorrow and Wednesday I will be away from the computer and out of town. My friend has asked me to go with her to see the legendary Motley Crue! We're both so excited to be going. It'll be an overnight trip so I won't be back until later Wednesday evening.
When I get back, I'll make a few more ads about my raffle to post up. I've only gotten a handful of participants and I know not everyone reads journals. So hopefully a few more people will enter then.
After that, I'll be working my butt off to raise funds for anything I might want. I'm seriously considering buying a band saw and some other tools so I can start working on making guitars. My uncle makes them every so often so he can teach me the basics of how to build them. I would really love to start up some kind of business with it.
I hope everyone had a great weekend and that this weeks brings you some good things!

What's the deal?
I'm holding this raffle as a way to say thank you to all my watchers. You guys have all been great and wonderful and just.. aah! I can't even explain to you guys how thankful I am for each and every one of you!
So what's the prize?
The grand prize winner will receive a digitally painted full-body image of their character with a background. The second place winner will receive one fully shaded image of their character, solid or simple background. Third place will receive a flat color piece of their character. And lastly, the runner up will receive a chibi (artistic level has yet to be determined). So that's a total of FOUR possible winners! These will all be free reign by the artist, it is a raffle after all!
Any rules on this thing?
Certainly! What's a contest without rules?
1. Only one (1) character per person entering in this raffle. You must either own the character you are entering or you must have permission to use someone else's character.
2. Characters MUST be female. No males this round, sorry!
3. You must be ok with pinups or other adult-themed works.
4. No, absolutely NO underage characters allowed.
5. Be nice to others and don't complain! If you don't win this time, don't worry! I'll have other little things like this periodically throughout the coming years for you to enter. Or, if you don't want to wait for my next free event, you could always commission me for what you want. If things get too out of hand, I'll shut the whole thing down for everyone.
