Posted 12 years agoThis isn't a surprising bit of info for those who have followed me for more than a year. Basically, I'll break from my art block due to whatever reason, post a couple drawings, and then disappear for a couple months before the cycle starts all over again.
Basically work has been sucking the life out of me and what time I do have away from work is spent with my spouse or friends, so art has been a lot less than usual. I've been making a surprising amount of jewelry but my tablet has be super lonely.
Fixing that, but just keeping you all up to speed.

Posted 13 years agoThis is just... frustrating like no one's business. Nobody's got business like my art block and how frustrating it is right now.
I've been talking out a commission with a local organization, but other than that I've been absolutely stopped up when it comes to ideas and motivation. Whenever I even think about drawing something a wave of fatigue and disinterest just washes over me, and it makes me want to eat my face.
I'm slowly trying to just... get rid of it. Drawing despite the lack of motivation, the tiredness of my body, everything, but even then I only get a short amount of work done before I finally give up due to frustration.
Anyone have any types for busting through artblock?

Kin is short for Pumpkin, because I love them so much, and Kat was just something that's stuck with me for forever.
3. Are you single or taken?
I am taken. I'm bonded with this silly wolf named Ulstan who gets grumpy that I'm bigger than him, but silly or grumpy, I still love him.
4.) Have any abilities or powers?
I'm a nature spirit, so I protect and aid the forest with my magics, helping plants grow tall, curing illnesses, keeping populations in check. I have sort of... a wide range of low impact abilities, but I can do damage when I need to. I also have control over the elements to a certain extent, which can be a lot of fun.
5.) Stop being a Mary-sue.

6.) Uh... if you were to get in a fight with a strong wrestler, do you think you'd win?

People chopping down my trees. Don't they know that each is integral to the forest's operation/health? Plus, then I have to get up and scare them away, and that's always a pain. <_<

... scaring people away from the forest. They scream funny.
11.) Do you have any activities/hobbies that you like to do?
I like to modify things to make them more appealing, especially with clothes. Nothing out there seems to fit my taste. That and reading, drawing, painting, collecting bones, and creating things from objects I find. Ooh, I also like chasing squirrels and birds. :3
12.)Have you ever hurt anyone in any way before?
I spooked a family of deer pretty badly, once. They thought I was trying to eat them, but really I just wanted the bird skeleton behind them to make a necklace out of. Daddy deer ran right into a tree in fright, poor guy. And I've come close to hurting some people who tried to tear down a part of my forest. I don't handle those types of situations well...
13.)Ever...killed anyone before?
Uh... animals I've eaten in the past? Now I mostly subsist on fish, though... that still counts, doesn't it? Other than that... I don't want to talk about it.

Forest Spirit, which, from what I can tell, seems to be a combination of wolf, owl, and dragon. ... I'm a weird thing.

Getting caught up in one project and neglecting others. :C

I don't have any hair! :P My fur is deep grey and white, and my feathers are orange, black, and green, though!

Life is a life thingy...
Posted 13 years agoSo life's been... weird lately.
I've been working with one of my friends to get my comic site up and running again, I got a big commission from a local band, I've been doing more watercolor/physical art, it's been all good for the most part, and then life decided to drop 4 little, cute surprises in my lap.
Ulfstan found four feral kittens outside his place of work and called me about it, knowing I'd want to do something about it. I several hours watching them to see if the mama cat would come back and she never showed. By the time we were getting ready to leave it had started storming, so I took them home. They're named... odd names, but the names relate to their personalities/mews-
Bubs, Little Sister, Barn Door, and Richard.
Bubs was a name I used for all of them when they were being rambunctious (Like "Where do you think you're going, bubs?") but it seemed to fit him the most, as he was the most rowdy and energetic of the bunch. He'd wander off on his own, unflinching and brave, even when he was face with my friends full grown dog. He's my brave baby.
Little sister is named that because of her mew and her... attitude, I suppose. She has the highest pitched mew and does it in a way you'd expect a serious younger sibling to speak. She has these droopy, sad little eyes, but I knew she was happier than she seemed. She also took to being held the quickest, actually falling asleep in my hand at one point after a feeding. She's my gentle baby.
Barn Door has a scratchy meow that reminds me of an un-oiled door hinge, hence the name (Ulfstan actually named him). He was about as explorative as his brother, but would always end up cuddling/climbing all over/being climbed on by/with Little Sister. He was also an odd eater, tilting his head to the side to suckle the syringe full of formula and getting it all over his face. He got the most face cleanings, and although he sometimes acted like he hated it, I think he secretly liked it, as he'd mellow out after a while and nod off as a cleaned him. He's my mix of badass and soft baby.
And then Richard. Richard was the smallest of the bunch, easily fitting into my palm. He would explore just like his brothers and sisters, unaware of ledges that I would inevitably have to catch him falling off of (just like his brothers and unlike his sister), and was the most unique in his fur pattern. The other kittens were a mix of white and tabby spots. Richard, on the other hand, was pure dark grey/brown and white. Sure, the other kittens had some dark grey/brown on them, but Richard didn't have a spot of tabby on him. He was a sweet boy. My sweet boy.
It turns out they all had Upper Respiratory Infections and one of the babies, Richard, didn't make it. He's currently at rest in my backyard with a little marker and a ring of stones around him. Burying him was one of the hardest things I've ever done in my life. I love you, little baby. <3
The other three spent another day with me, being fed, kept warm, played with until it was time to go to the shelter. I would have kept them myself but they hadn't been inoculated yet and I didn't want to risk my two older cats catching anything, plus, I'm not experienced in taking care of two week old kittens. Giving them into more experienced hands was so hard, but I kissed them, held them, told them that momma loved them, and put them in the shelter's care.
They're currently in foster care, are all on antibiotics for the URI's they have, and are being taken care of, but I've had a hard time suddenly going from cat mommy to not having this kittens around me 24/7. They've been my world and now suddenly they're gone. It hasn't been easy getting myself to start working on art again, getting stuff done, etc, because I've been worried about them so much.
But now I'm back. These kittens have done worlds of good for me and I'm so happy I got to spend even a short amount of time with them. They've inspired me to work harder, commit myself, and, when I have the space, become a foster for kittens just like them. Anyone who has them in their life is lucky.
Anyway, that's where I'm at now. I'm slowly getting back into the groove of working on my art and with the inspiration these kittens have given me, hopefully I'll be able to really get stuff done. *knock on wood*

Art and Life updates!
Posted 13 years agoSo, it's been a while since I wrote one of these.
Well, I've been busy dealing with some personal issues as well as organizing things to help my boyfriend move in with me (Yeah, I kind of forgot to tell you guys about that, sorry)! We got the room painted a lovely earthy green (called "Geranium Leaf"), had all my furniture moved in/organized, shelves put up, and now we're just waiting on the rest of his stuff to be moved in/set up. That's taken a week or so and we're still not done, but we've still got a lot done.
My personal stuff is basically my issues with motivation and ability to get things done, and while I won't get into too much detail, I think there's some emotional blockage preventing me from getting shit done when it needs to get done. I'll hopefully be able to assess the issue, correct it, and move on from there.
In other, less personal news, I've been get /some/ art done! I completed two pendants tonight (Well... one and a half. One is a work in progress) and did my very first wire wrapping. It's my first try, so it doesn't look too stunning, but I'd say it's good for a first try! I'm also working on a neat little, impulsive digital painting that experiments with lighting/wet things. All of this should be posted tomorrow, along with another installment of "Let's Have a Quickie!" (since I missed last weeks deadline due to moving issues) and "No Idea"!
For now, I think I shall head to bed, but I figured it'd be good to update my lovely watchers on what's been going on of late/what I've been working on. See you guys tomorrow!

Art update aka slowing down on submitting
Posted 13 years agoWhy am I slowing down on submitting, you ask? Well, I'm in an upswing, inspiration wise, but of course my tablet pen had to go and break on me just as my muse decided it would be a good time to flood me with motivation/ideas.
I'm going to be running around tomorrow trying to figure out if there's a way to fix the pen/if I have to order a new one, and if I do have to replace it, if I even can replace it, how much it'll run me. But until I fix it, get a new one, I'll be doing traditional work only, which I don't have a problem with, it's just a slower process/I've grown to prefer digital.
So that's what's currently going on with me. I've finished up the last of my requests/commissions so thankfully no one will be waiting on me to get this finished but myself, but still, it's a pretty fucking frustrating situation. We'll see how things go.
So yeah, that's what's currently going on with me. For the people who have been wondering what exactly I've been doing with my time, this is it, ie- not getting any work done because of this bump in the road.
Hopefully I'll have it fixed soon.

Character design!
Posted 14 years agoSo I'm slowly getting on track, as far as what an artist "should" be doing with their time. I'm not just waiting for inspiration to hit me and throwing things out willy nilly (although that is a lot of fun and I don't really plan on stopping any time soon) I'm planning out ideas, laying out stories, trying to put meaning behind what I produce.
I've got three projects I'm working on (one of which I'm coming back to, the other two are new) 1. My "No Idea" comic series 2. A new fantasy comic series 3. A new design for Kat.
Now I know most people are groaning because I change Kat's design so frequently I might as well have multiple characters, but basically my feelings about the whole situation are that while I love Kat's current design (featherhawk ftw), I've been missing her old design, as sparkle dog as it was. I never posted art of her in this form, but she was a mixture of arctic wolf, shark and dragon.
She had a unique look to her, more so than she does now, and I miss having the unnatural color scheme.
I'm going to just...play with the design and see what comes out of it.
I'm not sure if I'll be posting my new comic series on FA (wondering whether or not it'll have any furs in it <_<), but if not, it'll be on my art blog or DA, and those links are on the header and footer of this journal and on my page.

Art Update, aka Where the fuck did KatOshio go?
Posted 14 years agoWeeeeeell hello, FA. Long time no see. Well...sorta.
I haven't been posting for a couple of reasons. The more minor of the two being that I've been very caught up in getting my webcomic off the ground and get myself posting/coming up with ideas weekly/etc.
The more major of the two being I'm kind of moving out of my parents house. <_< And getting everything in boxes, trying to get everything squared away with college, payment, getting a job, etc, is really building up for me.
With all of that to do (and even though that's only two things, they're two really big things for me) I haven't had it in me to get other drawings out. Hopefully when I get myself moved into my new place and settled I'll be able to start not only updating my webcomic "No Idea" (that's the comic I'm referencing in my header and footer, by the way :P) but start putting out other art as well.
I'm thinking once I move in, I'll continue taking requests if people want them, and then slowly move my way into commissions, if there are enough people asking for art. Rates will definitely be low when I'm first starting out because I am in no way an artistic genius.
So yeah, that's what's goin' on with me.
Hope to be putting art out soon. :D

Posted 14 years agoSo, hope everyone had a good 25th. I'm currently strung out on stuffing, casserole, gravy and after dinner wine, sitting on the couch with my new lappy watching a Star Wars marathon. Life is goooood.
As for my loot, awesome clothes (sexy shrug and a Slytherin hoodie ftw), books (Mocking Jaaaaaaay), a pencil skirt made of what feels like mole skin (for those who don't know, mole skin=the softest thing you will ever feel ever ever), Barnes and Noble gift card (more books for the nerd <3) and of course, my sexy new lappy which I looooove.
My old lappy was falling apart. The comma key (both the plastic key itself and the rubber stopper underneath had come off, leaving the censor bare, which is concerning) and the "w" key is going south, both the fans have busted, so they're making this awful grinding noise and the poor thing liked to freeze on me...a lot.
So, now, old lappy is in retirement and new lappy is starting off very well. <3

Re-found my backbone (it was under the bed with all my missing socks) and I'm arting again. Although...I never told anyone that I had stopped arting, so thats mostly irrelevant at this point.
But more arts to come. Might post some photography so I don't feel like what I am, a fuckin' putz. But, in the time of no arts, I actually got some very nice vent art done. You know, the kind you actually spend time on. *shocked face* I know right?
That and a certain Norsey Wolf is coming to visit this weekend and apparently I'm going to be drawing him some things. So those might get up here too eventually. I might just take the oh so classy route, find me a camera and get them into the computer that way, because I'm really tired of not submitting. Its stupid, me no likey.
So yeah, I'll be uploading soon if it kills me (promises, promises).

FA I'm sorry I've been neglecting you. No, no, baby, you're very important to me. What? No, of course not, why would I go behind your back? What, Deviantart? Oh come on, its not that...wait, come back!
Wow, I'm a nerd. Anyway, I'm back...again. I've been basically letting this account sit for the longest time and have just been sitting back and enjoying the submissions, but looking back on my older works...I definitely need to upload some new stuff, yeah?
Kat's been worked and reworked to a point where I'm satisfied and am now starting to churn out that old furry-goodness. There will hopefully be new stuff up soon.
In any case, I wanted to put up an update and get rid of that last journal. Taking up waaaaay too much room on my page.
In other news, visits to a certain Norsey-wolfs house this weekend? Fffffreakin' awesome. Too much fun was had, people. Fun overload. Injuries were had, there was so much fun. I dunno, I'm feeling a little manic and thought I'd post my thoughts on the weekend...cause it was fuuuuun. :3

Finally...
Posted 16 years agoI got the balls to make a FA.
I've been lurking around the site for a couple weeks and it seems like a cool enough community with good people, and its also and excuse to get away from the drama over at DA. <_<
So, I'll be submitting old works first and then soon enough I'll be drawing up new pieces as soon as I can.
