Anthro Crossroads East happened had its inaugural weekend last week and it was a huge success! Being staff for the con it ended up being a super busy weekend but definitely a fun one, and we had a fantastic lineup of DJs for the dances. I ended up bringing back a lot of hard dance classics (plus a few more recent tunes) for my set and it was a very fun one to mix. :)

Thanks to everyone that came out this past Saturday and made our (Sonic Sphere's) Alzheimer's benefit show a huge success! I am happy to say that not only did we end up raising $676.65 for the charity but my secret goal of having a furry takeover of one of our shows seemed like it finally happened, ha ha ha. Definitely one of the most fun nights I've had in a long time and probably one of the best shows I've ever been a part of!

This is it! The last mix of 2016 and boy howdy is it a doozie. I pulled out all the stops for this and created a mix that goes from 128bpm all the way to 185bpm all in the course of 64 minutes and some change, shifting genres all along the way but remaining hard as nails throughout. I've done plenty of genre hopping mixes before, but none this extreme...though that may change based on how much fun this one was to mix. :D

It's hard to believe that 7 years ago I took up the nullstrukt alias and started playing around with mixing music. Now I couldn't really imagine what it would be like not to have this wonderful hobby, and I hope that passion comes through in the mixes I create.

I've been thinking more about the journal I posted a couple of days ago (basically should I go to Megaplex or FangCon) and I realized that a) I still really wanted to go to FangCon, long drive or not, and see all the awesome friends there and b) I couldn't bring myself to not support the con that I've adopted as my "home" con. So yeah, I'll see you at  fangcon this Halloween!

I will probably pass on Megaplex this year after all (I was actually planning on doing it and FangCon, but the main hotel is full, the overflows don't look to be in convenient walking distance while in suit, and I need to regenerate some vacation time, anyway :P) but I'm thinking that it might be in the works for next year alongside a return to FangCon.

Howdy all! Nothing DJ related here, surprisingly. :P

So I've been going to FangCon the past 2 years and want to keep supporting it, but the move to Birmingham, AL this year (and hopefully just for this year) is going to make it a bit of a challenge to drive there (and many of the folks I would normally be going with have already been of a like opinion). I would rather not fly, but that is still an option.

That being said, I've also wanted to check out Megaplex. It's much earlier (August versus end of October) but I've heard good things about it. It's a little further in driving distance, but it's also a direct flight if I choose to go that route. Even if I do drive, it's not the I-85 and Atlanta hell that I would have to deal with to get to Birmingham. I make that drive enough for family and know just how boring and aggravating it can be, heh. Plus, Orlando and a new (for me) con is a draw.

So...anyone have any advice on the matter? Know of any other Fall-ish cons that are within driving distance (e.g. preferably less than 9 hours, ideally much less) of the Raleigh area? And/or who all is going to Megaplex or FangCon this year?

Given that Megaplex's DJ submissions close May 1st, I will have to make a decision on this soon. Feedback is welcome, and thanks!

I finally found some time to post my set from Kempi's at TFF 2016, Voodoo Trance! It's just over 90 minutes of vocal, euphoric, uplifting, tech, and even some psytrance and it was a lot of fun to play. :) A huge thank you to everyone who came down to dance during this afternoon set!

Overall TFF was a great time, despite a cold and some other health issues trying to keep me down for most of it. I didn't get to suit nearly as much as I wanted to, but Sunday I spent a good deal of time running around as The Baconizer and that was such a blast that it made up for it. :) Next year I'll know to start dosing up on vitamin C prior to flying to Texas to avoid any crud from the travel!

It was also really great to see old friends again and make some new ones. I picked up several great badges (including ones from  foxderps and  tiggerpup), got some more props (all with squeakers--you're welcome,  arkarian! :P), and danced my tail off every night. I even got to teach a fursuit character/performance panel by surprise with  edgewise, and it seemed to go so well that we're thinking about volunteering for the fursuit track next year.

So yeah, TFF was fun, Texas in general was lots of fun (SO MUCH DISC GOLF AND FOOD), and I am already looking forward to next year...and prowling around the con as Nullstrukt by  morefurless. :D

Goodness gracious, a journal not about a new mix nor fundraising for charity, what gives?!

Anyway, so I'll be going to Furry Fiesta again this year, but a brand new convention,  fursonacon, is starting its first year the weekend after TFF. Going to out of state cons (or just cons in general) on back to back weekends seems awfully crazy to me, but I am considering it as it would be nice to support a brand new con that is a short drive away from home. Plus, it might be another opportunity to DJ! :P

So is anyone else going? The dates are March 18th - 20th and I'm *assuming* that it is indeed still happening as they have had little to no updates since the date changed from September to March. Thoughts?

I've been growing my trance library and mixing it more and more and thought it was about time I make a mix that shows the more uptempo (without getting into hard trance) side of things that I love so much, so we have Entranced! I also didn't have a trance mix with a terrible pun of a name yet, so that is a secondary reason.

Yep! Later this week I'll be headed to  fangcon with  edgewise and I'm SUPER excited to be there once again! It was a blast last year and we have a huge group going this year from the Triangle area. Fun times!

We will be there Thursday afternoon to Monday morning, and Friday is going to be an especially busy day. At 2pm on Friday I'm co-hosting Intro to DJing, at 5pm I'm co-hosting (Almost) Everything You Need to Know About Fursuiting, and then from 12am - 1am that night I'm going to be bringing the best hard dance beats I can find to the dance floor to get those tails shaking! :D I'll also be suiting around quite a bit (of course) and probably spinning a good deal of poi. This past Saturday I had a first--I was the DJ for  rosehexwit and  kialskunk's wedding! It was a fun time and a beautiful ceremony, and aside from a little hiccup during setup everything went very smoothly. I was super busy all night but really did have a good time and was honored to be a part of the wedding. :) Congrats you two, and many blessings and best wishes moving forward!

For the last hour of the reception I played a full trance set, from 130 - 140 bpm, and the track pool consisted entirely of tracks that were positive messages of love and/or just uplifting trance in general. Just filtering through tracks to get that pool took a while, but it was well worth it. Even more fun was digging through my CDs from high school and early college to find some background music to play during the cocktail party and the dinner part of the reception, ha.

While this really should have been recorded and posted back in May, this mix marks year 6 since I took up DJing. I keep doing the Critical Error series each year to serve as a sort of snapshot of where I'm at each year, so if you start with 00 (which is awful) and work your way through to 05 you should hear a progression of skill as well as a development of style. Or you can just treat it as rocking out to some pretty flippin' awesome freeform hardcore (with guest appearances by other styles) each year. :P

This particular outing had the goal of being very high-energy--already a trait of this series, but this particular mix moreso than the rest. The tempo starts at 170bpm but doesn't stay there long at all before ramping up to 175 and then 180. Hope you enjoy this year's Critical Error, and, as always, thanks for listening! :D

The people who came had a great time, though, and it certainly was a ton of fun! It may be a while before Sonic Sphere will do another show as we will be actively seeking promoters and revising our strategies for future shows. I'll be DJing at  fangcon Halloween weekend, though, so come to that show and attend an awesome convention to boot! :D

I just posted a new promo mix for the show I'm helping to organize and close the night out on this Thursday night, RIFT: Crossing Dimensions! It will be my first time playing hardcore for a live show, so I'm pretty darn stoked about that. :D

The show will be at The Black Flower Bar here in Raleigh, and it has a really fantastic (and diverse) lineup. There will be breaks, industrial & EBM, trap ( zeph_husky I'm looking at you), psytrance from the internationally renowned DJ Mixtress Krikett, and hardcore. There will also be a fire flow jam going on outside (so fire poi, staves, etc.) and some vendors onsite. It's going to be a great time and I hope to see you there! :D

This is stupid last minute because I've been WAY too busy the past several weeks, but in a week and some change I'm going to be riding my tail off in a 24 hour charity cycling event for cancer, 24 Hours of Booty, and I need your help in reaching my fundraising goal!

This will be my eighth year participating in 24 HoB, and it is a event that is very meaningful for me. My dad was in the last stages of cancer when my brother, sister-in-law, and myself first did this ride in his honor. He was able to make it out to the course to cheer us on for a short while, but then we lost him later that year. I've lost several family members to this horrible disease, and I'm the only one in my immediate family that has not had a cancer of some sort (yet). This ride is just one way I try to fight back so that nobody else will have to go through what I and so many others have.

So what am I willing to do for donations? Well, any donation will at least get a thank you art sketch, no matter how big or small the amount. :) But for donations of $25 or more you can get your very own pixel portrait! Examples:

So what's this about a request for help? Well, the Triangle Furs group is having a meetup that same Saturday during lunch for a group Animazement photo and general hanging out just outside of the con, and I'm planning on doing some in-person promoting (probably in fursuit) for the show around that same time (before, after, during, dunno, all of the above?). If there is anyone who is willing to help out with handing flyers to Animazement attendees and talking to them about the show, whether you are in costume or not, I would GREATLY appreciate it! I would even be willing to talk about compensation of some sort for the help.
