First off, a HUGE thank you to everyone who attended the show! A special shout-out to  zeph_husky,  sikuwolfy, and  botter for being there the entire time and dancing for a good deal of it! Zeph and Siku were the first fursuiters we have had at a show since Zenith last summer, so that was pretty awesome. :D

So this mix was supposed to fit the cyberpunk theme by being dark, very techy, and full of stompy goodness. And that's how it started, but a few tracks in I was noticing that the longer breakdowns of the tracks were letting the crowd realize how tired they were from dancing to the previous two DJs (who both played hardcore at 170+ bpm), so I started digging through my track pool for more energetic tracks with less breakdowns that could keep the motivation up. Right about then my good friend Wondershock (who, since it was past midnight, was the birthday boy) made a request for "that Ghostbusters track"--which is Busting Free by Gilly, and is a goofy hard house track that I played at Dusk and FangCon last year. Well, since it was his birthday and I thought it would be a fun challenge, I plotted a course towards that track and, sure enough, two transitions later the riff from Ghostbusters is blasting through the club. The crowd loved it, so I played a few more hard house tracks, a dance circle started and breakdancing was in full force (including  genki showing off his skills), and at that point I decided to just stick with hard house for the rest of the set, heh.

So yeah, the Matrix glitched, but in a good way. :P

I know, I know, I still haven't done anything remotely resembling a con report for Furry Fiesta. In short, it was awesome! In more detail...maybe I'll post on that later, ha ha ha. I'm terrible with these things. :P

While I was there I did have the pleasure of being one of the DJs in Kempi's, the club underneath the hotel that served as the con suite. There weren't too many folks that stopped by, but I really appreciated everyone who did (and even danced around for a while)! I think the empty floor had me playing around and experimenting a bit more than usual for a live set, so there are a few transitions in here that aggravate me (and probably go unnoticed by most listeners, heh) but all in all it's still an enjoyable set. :) Hope to be able to DJ again next year!

Kind of late for posting this, but I will be joining  sarkiran for another crazy con adventure, this time with Furry Fiesta flavor! I'll be running around as both Kaynus and his (not-so-secret) alter-ego, The Baconizer, so keep an eye out for him! :)

Alright you'uns, I talked to several folks at FangCon about this but there is an absolutely amazing volunteer/fundraising opportunity down in Jacksonville, NC on April 24-25th of 2015. It's fursuit-friendly (hugely so), you're on a team with some really great folks, and it's one of the most amazing experiences I've had since I started fursuiting. That's right...it's Relay For Life!

Last year we had a team that included 4 suiters and we want to at least double that for 2015 (as well as raise $1500 or more as a team). So this was the first time I had been to FangCon, and boy howdy was it a blast! It's a small con so that was a new experience for me, but I loved how that translated into being able to run into the same folks frequently and actually get to meet and know people. There were so many times where I just stopped to have conversations with people I met, and that kind of relaxed pace was really refreshing. I also taught my first panel at a con with  sarkiran, woo! Thanks to the handful of attendees who showed up for that panel, and I hope you got value out of it. :)

Edgewise and Kaynus made numerous appearances throughout the weekend, which was fun, and the fursuit parade ended outside (in the wonderfully chilly weather) where we waved at traffic for a while (causing many people to slow down for pictures, or even pull into the opposing parking lot to stop and get several pictures). The best part was when one family pulled into the Holiday Inn parking lot and got out with their two young sons (who promptly wanted high fives, hugs, and pictures with all the fursuiters). :D

Thanks to all the Triangle Furs who helped to make the con so awesome (Arkarian, Dingra, Zeph, Neuril, Eddie Bear, Destinii, Lucidus, Siku, and Nick) and I hope to see you at FangCon next year! I definitely plan on going back. :)

Yep, I'm going to FangCon with  sarkiran a week from tomorrow and looking forward to it! We'll be getting there Thursday afternoon and leaving Monday morning, and I should be pretty easy to find as I only have one character to suit as. :P

I am one of the con DJs, but no clue what time slot yet. I'm also teaching an intro to DJing panel with Sark (aka DJ Edgewise) on Saturday from 1pm - 2pm if I remember right. I bet that title got some attention! But despite where your mind may have gone, this is actually an annual cycling event that is a cancer fundraiser--both for finding cures and for helping those who are currently fighting cancer. I've been riding in it for the past 6 years (logging something in the neighborhood of 800+ miles/1287+ km or so), but I've never really posted anything about it here.

Well, this year I decided to do an experiment and see what kind of traction something like this would get here. I'm trying to raise $1500 USD or more in less than a month to help do my part, and I would greatly appreciate any help in reaching my goal! Even something as simple as a signal boost means a lot. :)

So this past Saturday I was a co-host and DJ at Sonic Sphere's Dusk here in Raleigh, and oh my goodness, what an incredibly fun show!! A HUGE thank you to everyone who came out to the show (Yamori, Rose, Dusk [lulz for showing at the event that shares your name :P], Botter, Ketchara--you all rock! And anyone else I missed, heh). That was the first time I played a hard house set live, and boy howdy am I addicted to this genre now, heh.

The great news is that once we finished cleaning up and thanked the venue, they responded by inviting us back! The owner was super happy with how the show went and said that he had a blast, so just give him a call when we're ready to do another one. So it's less than a month until Dusk, my next show (details: https://www.facebook.com/events/720855527975671/ or http://www.meetup.com/furries-319/e.....nts/196739372/ ), and in order to give a preview of what's to come I've recorded a primarily hard house mix that is more fun than you can shake a hoover at! Well, ok, maybe you can't shake hoovers (unless they are vacuum cleaners), but still, you get the point. :P

Ohlamahgoodness this stuff is stupid crazy fun to mix, so expect to hear more mixes and hopefully more live shows, too! I will be using this for my Furry Fiesta demo mix as well (I was going back and forth between this and the industrial mix), so we'll see how that goes. :)

It's been a year or more since I last made a serious attempt at mixing the music that got me into electronic dance music to begin with (industrial, EBM, future synthpop, etc.) and even then I was mixing it with more "club friendly" tunes just to make it a tad easier.

Well, over this past week I said nuts to that, it's time to see if a year's worth of shows and personal growth as a DJ had given me the skills needed to tackle these crazy genres with the fluidity that I strive for in my sets. Well, it's been a long wait, but the answer is yes! I think I am finally to the point where these mixes will become a more regular thing, and hopefully it won't be long before I'm playing these sets live.

While it will take one more night of a more normal sleep schedule to get back to feeling like a normal person again (days after shows are always like this, ha), oh man--last night was awesome!! Thank you so much to everyone who came to the show and helped to make it such an amazing experience. :)

I met several new folks, which was really cool, and got to hang out with a few familiar faces as well.  ClawRegent even spent his first couple of hours of being 21 at our show, which was great (happy birthday once again, by the way! :) ). There was actually a very respectable-sized furry crowd in attendance (which made me grin), but what really got me was when I had two different people who are not furries stop me after my set and ask, "Where are the furries at?" Though they meant fursuiters in particular, apparently we have become such an expected part of the Sonic Sphere shows that the "normal" crowd misses us when we're not obviously there--something that I feel is a victory, ha ha ha.

So, despite the fact that it was getting pretty warm in the venue (the A/C could only fight off the outside temperature for so long) I decided to head out to my car and get Kaynus so I could romp around for a while. I overheated more quickly than usual thanks to the warm conditions, but it was so worth it! I even had one of the folks who had asked where the furries were come over (after I had the head off) and ask a lot of questions about suit construction, how much do they cost, etc., ending with him borrowing Kaynus' head for a minute to go run around the dancefloor and see what it was like. The huge grin he had on his face after he came back and returned the head was priceless--we may have made a convert, lol.

The venue (Chapel Hill Underground) was also great. The bar was very well stocked and had a rather large selection of good brews on tap, the dancefloor was a bunch of fun, and it even had pool tables, a lounge area, foosball, and an air hockey table (though this was off, I believe, as it was tucked away behind the dancefloor). They were absolutely fine with having fursuits there and people seemed to enjoy it when I had my suit on, which is also a plus. The only real downside I could see is that there wasn't a great spot to change into my suit. I ended up using the small hallway area where the hockey table was tucked away for changing because it was not a throughfare, it was dark, and the hockey table provided a good surface to set suit parts on while I was arranging them. Given the space I could only see that as being practical for 1-2 people changing at a time, and there really wasn't any sort of area for a headless lounge. So maybe it wasn't as ideal as the situation we had at Atomic Empire, but, wow, so much easier to schedule shows and a lot cheaper to host a show there, too.

Long story short, last night was truly amazing and I can't wait to do it again. :D I've already processed and posted my mix (including one song that refused to beatmatch properly despite all of my efforts, argh), and you can check it out on Mixcloud here:

It's hard for me to believe that it's already been 5 years since I picked up my first midi controller and started this whole DJ adventure, but I can honestly say that I haven't regretted it for any step of the way! The music, the community, and the sheer fun of it all keep pushing me to hone my craft and make better and better experiences for you all to enjoy. :)

Every year around this time I've been releasing the next installment of the Critical Error mix series, trying to do it as close to the anniversary of the first mix I released (Critical Error 00, which was terrible, ha), and now it is time for the (slightly late) Critical Error 04. It's a freeform hardcore ride that will take you through highs and lows, but keep you grooving all along!

This year's installment has what is probably the highest amount of furry-produced music of any mix I've ever done. Of the 20 tracks, 7 were either produced or remixed by folks on this site. And, for a change of pace, I've actually got the mix uploaded and ready for download as well as having it on Mixcloud! :D

So what does the last part of this journal's title have to do with this post? Well, everything, really. If it weren't for you all and the support and encouragement you've shown, I don't know if I ever would have made it this far. I can't begin to express how much it means to me to see people dancing away to one of my sets, or leaving a few kind words on an online mix, or even just giving my mixes a listen in the first place. Yes, I'm doing this for the love of the music, but even more so I'm doing it with the hope that it will make someone else's day just a little more awesome.
