Double Feature: Birthday and Anthrocon
Posted 8 years agoWell, it's been a long time since I've written one of these, and unfortunately since it's at the end of the day I'm going to keep it pretty short. But as it implies in the title, today is my birthday! Turned 25. Quarter Century old now.
*confetti*
Well that's enough of that. For all of those who haven't kept in touch or aren't keeping up with me on Twitter, here's a bit of an update on how life is going. And it's pretty good, honestly. Last summer I actually got two degrees: one in Business and one in Broadcast Arts! That said they were both Associates degrees... Maybe that at least counts as a whole degree if you put them together? Ah, it's no big deal. I'm still going to school, this time to REAL university for a Bachelors degree in "Electronic Media and Film" (and a minor in business). What that boils down to is that I'm learning to mess around with audio and video real well, and I write lots of scripts rather than essays.
At the moment I'm between school semesters, but don't worry: I'm keeping busy! Currently working two jobs. One of them is working promotions for a group of radio stations out in Ann Arbor, Michigan. It's actually from an internship that I did last summer to finish off one of my degrees that actually turned into a real job! The other job is the current internship: making training videos for an education technology company. It's very odd and not what I thought I'd be doing for my internship... but heck, it pays well and is full time! Once the summer is over though, I'll be back to the one job for the Fall as I finish up my last semester, then it's off for the hunt for a BIGGER, BETTER job.
Also, as of January this year I've been living with my giant goob of a boyfriend
boneitis. He's been amazing and wonderful, though he constantly complained about how cold it was up here (what a wimp). This Anthrocon, we'll be celebrating the anniversary of our first full year together! At least, I'll be celebrating. He'll be working. The sacrifices we make.
So yes, I will be at Anthrocon this year, after having missed it last year. Let me know if I'll see you there! Drop a line here or hit me up on Twitter (@Kaze_the_Wyvern on there).
That's all.

Video Game Meme
Posted 10 years agoSaw
criticalhit64 doing this and I thought I'd jump on board. After all, I like games!
Favorite video game?
Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward. I love how everything in the game seems to blend together the more of it you play, and the narrative is amazing. Seriously, ask me about it and I won't stop geeking.
First console you owned?
An original Playstation!
A game that holds a special place in your heart?
Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. It was the first game that I ever really sunk my teeth into and managed to ferret out all of it's secrets.
Least favorite video game character?
Gosh, I dunno. Fi from Skyward Sword was probably my least favorite game companion.
Favorite genres?
Puzzle games, RPGs, action-adventure, and platforming - though I'm often just frustrated by lots of old school sidescrollers.
Video game character you've had a crush on?
Balthier from Final Fantasy XII is one of the earlier ones I remember. I didn't care much for the game, but damn if he wasn't FINE.
First video game you remember playing?
This is going to sound weird, but "Pink Panther: Passport to Peril." My parents got it for me and my sister on the computer, along with other educational type games. This one though had the benefit of actually having puzzles, some amusing dialogue, and a good number of musical numbers! I'm actually amazed I remember it, because it was from before I really started gaming.
Age you started gaming?
I played games before then, but I really didn't start getting deep into games until I was about 11 or 12.
Hardest video game you've played?
I'm kind of a rage-quitter when it comes to hard games, so it's tricky to say for this. If I had to hazard a guess, I would say FTL: Faster Than Light. Rogue-likes and RTS are my bane, so the two of them combined just frustrated me to no end.
Video game you've spent the most time on?
I actually don't tend to spend a lot of time on one game, especially not now. Just from multiple replays though, I'd hazard guesses at A Link to the Past and Tales of Symphonia (two childhood favorites). I also did a lot of online play with the Halo series, with either 3 or Reach taking the top spot.
Most embarrassing gaming moment?
Playing Resident Evil 4 for the first time, when the first chainsaw started revving I immediately thought "Wow, someone outside should really get their engine checked." I didn't realize the truth until it was too late.
Scariest video game you've played?
Slender: the Eight Pages. The third run of that I did I had to actually quit the game because I was shaking so bad.
Most memorable gaming moment?
One of my fondest memories with my father was getting the original Lego Star Wars and marathoning that over a weekend together. It was an absolute blast. The second was playing Kingdom Hearts for the first time... by getting to play on my friend's save file at the final boss where I (after several attempts) was the first person who was able to beat Ansem. That felt REALLY cool.
Video game character you wish you could meet in real life?
Does Jehuty from Zone of the Enders count as a character, seeing as it has personality? I'm going to say yes.
PC, Xbox, Playstation, or Nintendo?
Playstation, mostly because the game's that tend to make it onto the platform are more often the ones that I'm into.
Gaming company you're most loyal to?
If we're going by studio, probably Naughty Dog. I more often than not greatly enjoy their games.
If you could only play one video game for the rest of your life, which would you choose?
I'm not as into dedicated gaming as I used to be. If I had to choose just one game... I'd probably prefer to just not game at all anymore.
Do you use strategy guides?
For Roleplaying and adventure games, absolutely! I hate missing out on collectibles if I can avoid it. For puzzle games though, I try to avoid them as much as I can.
How often do you use cheats?
I honestly have never really used cheats. I see the appeal, but I've never wanted to actually go out of my way to do it.
Competitive or single player?
Singleplayer, but with a strong preference for co-operative multiplayer as well. I'm not the biggest fan of competitive... I can get really sour when I start losing, and I know that.
Video game character you want to/have cosplayed?
Honestly, I think that I'd have a heck of a lot of fun cosplaying as Lloyd Irving from Tales of Symphonia. I don't know why, but I like that red outfit :3
Ever go to a video game convention?
Unfortunately no...
Hardest boss fight you've been in?
One of the earlier bosses in Tales of Symphonia. Context for that was that I was playing for my sister: she got to the fight underleveled, two of four party members dead, with no healing items and with only one character who could cast a very minor heal. Barely managed to get through that fight by the skin of my teeth under those conditions.
Video game you wish you could burn from your memory?
Virtue's Last Reward. I wish to be able to play it again with the same amount of wonder and amazement as I did the first time.
Favorite gaming series?
The Zero Escape series. Like I said, 999 and Virtues last reward are super good!
Do you skip tutorials, or find them useful?
I usually do them.
Best online gaming experience?
Geez, I don't know. I've done so little playing online that I can't think of a REALLY good one off the top of my head. Probably did Halo Reach the most though.
Worst online gaming experience?
Matchmaking for strikes in Destiny. If ONE person leaves (and they WILL) you're SoL on being able to handle the endboss if you're playing on heroic
Why do you game?
I play games because they bring to me a story that I feel like I can touch. Even if the story is "on rails" so to speak, I love having the chance to just go on the ride and interact with everything on the way there. I guess there's an escapist aspect to it for me ^^;

Or you can send me a note/comment below to ask for my cell number, and if you check out you can get it. :)
Or you can look for the guy with the fuzzy, blue and green dragon tail.
Are there any panels you might be attending?
Yes! The Guest of Honor's Voice Acting panels, Fox Amoore's shows and hopefully Rikoshi's panel on writing for tabletop games :)
Also karaoke.
What do you look like?
Shortish, reddish-brown hair, glasses, about 5'11" and wearing a buttoned up shirt.
Otherwise, there's a picture on my profile.
Will you be suiting?
Unfortunately, I don't own one :(
Do you do free art?
Sure! Do you enjoy stick figures?
Do you do trades?
... Trading stick figures?
What is your gender?
Man
How tall are you?
Already addressed this, but I'm 5'11"
Can I talk to you?
Of course!
Can I touch you?

How can I find you?
Find me at one of the above panels! Or futzing around the sales floor! Or.. shout at me on twitter! I really don't know, otherwise.
Can I buy you drinks?
Oh dear Lord, yes.
Can I hug or snuggle with you?
Hug? Sure, just don't surprise me. Snuggle? If I've known you from before the con, then sure!
Are you nice?
I have at many times been called a sweetheart, but I do sometimes make off-color jokes.
Do you have an artist table?
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA- next question.
Will you be going to parties?
If I'm dragged to one. And if I can have drinks first/while I'm there.
If I see you, how should I get your attention?
Say "Kaz!" or "Kaze!" Or maybe even "Wyvern-dude!" Or you can just tap my shoulder.
Can I come with you for food/fun/etc?
Absolutely! But make sure I know you're coming. Otherwise I'll just think that someone is following me and run away in terror.
Can I look in your sketchbook?
I probably wont have one, and if I do it will have other peoples stuff in it. Or random notes.
Can I draw in your sketchbook?
Sure!
Can I take your picture?
I'm not photogenic, but I will try if you want me to :)
What's your goal(s) for the con this year?
Say hello to EVERYONE I can, and generally have a good time! And also drink, but not so much that I forget anything :)

MCFC Tomorrow!
Posted 10 years agoSo, it looks like I'll be able to attend MCFC tomorrow! JUST tomorrow though. Unfortunately my home life is too busy to spare too much time for the convention, but I'll be arriving sometime in the afternoon and will be hanging out for the rest of the evening before heading home.
So I know this is late notice but... who's going? Maybe you're already there? If you want to hang out with this silly wyvern, go ahead and throw me something :)

I got a room for AC2015!
Posted 10 years agoYeah, that's right, I already put in my reservation for a room for Anthrocon this year!
AND it's at the Westin!
So yeah, I'm all registered and ready to go for that. I'm extremely excited to see all those familiar faces in July
That said, I DO have spots available in the room if anyone is looking to go. If you're looking for a space, go ahead and give me a poke and we'll talk it out!
Talk to you all later. Ciao!
Update: My room is now filled up. Sorry to anyone who might have wanted room D:

Having a drink tonight (Work promotion and Personal Musing)
Posted 11 years agoSo tonight I'm kicking back and having a drink. Smirnoff Ice; fairly sweet and personally satisfying. This wouldn't be such a big deal except for the fact that I actually rarely ever drink: I only do it when I'm out with friends at parties or on special occasions. And I've actually got a few reasons for drinking tonight.
First of all, I'm drinking in celebration: I just received a promotion at my job. It's just a fast food job, promoted to a supervisory position after having worked there for over a year. It probably should have happened a long time ago, and I personally have mixed feelings about it. I don't really care for the job, or a good number of the people that I've worked with (those that actually stay for more than a few weeks), and have seriously thought about quitting multiple times. But I haven't really had luck finding work elsewhere, and so I stay just to be safe. Still, I now have a bit more autonomy and authority which certainly feels good, and the new uniform for the position actually has pockets, which is even better. And on the way home from work today, I realized that this was pretty much the first time I'd received a promotion for anything. Ever. Although it doesn't feel like much, I've kinda realized that it's a big step for me. I certainly don't intend to stay there for all that much longer, but a few months of working as a supervisor should make me look more appealing to other employers and give me the opportunity to ask for more of a salary. It's a small step, but it's moving forward.
Secondly, I'm drinking because - as sad as it is to say - I'm kinda melancholic. Over the past year or more I've really widened out my social circle: made new friends, actually started attending conventions, and even got involved in some community theater. And while I'm still in contact with a whole bunch of them, I don't really get to see people that often. Even my closest friends who I've known since I was in high school I only manage to see once every couple weeks or so. Most of my time is spent at home (mostly avoiding the other members of the household), at school, or at work. And unfortunately I don't really have school or work friends, so I don't really get much from that. I guess I'm just a bit somber, and a little lonely; while chatting up people on the net is fun, it's not a complete substitute for personal interaction.
And the last reason I'm drinking? Well, I guess I just wanted a drink, damn it. puts me in a better mood to relax (and, in my opinion, is the best thing to do when you want to write journals for FurAffinity - it puts you in the proper mindset)
Anyway, that's enough from me tonight. Thanks for your time; I hope my ramblings were an amusing distraction.

Anthrocon Saturday Update
Posted 11 years agoNot much to say here so far. Got here on Thursday around 3 pm, met up. with a bunch of furs and mostly relaxed for the rest of the afternoon and evening. Special shout-out to
jackthecoonbro for making the welcoming to AC absolutely awesome. The arrival to AC was kind of soured though as I discovered that there wasn't going to be an Iron Author contest this year... I had really been looking forward to it. Konked out for a good bit mid evening, but eventually got up to go out for dinner and rejoin the furs I've been hanging with for a game of Card Against Humanity. Bed came around 2 pm.
Friday, I got up earlier than anyone else in the room (one of the effects of an early morning job), grabbed breakfast with some random furs that I hadn't met before, and pretty much chilled until the Artist's Alley/ Dealer's Den opened up. Then it was running around and checking out tables, meeting up with artists, seeing more people I haven't seen in a long time, though usually briefly, and largely going around doing general con things. Special shout out for today goes to
akashiduela who I haven't had the pleasure of seeing in a really, really long time. There were a few panels I was originally planning to go to, but some of those ended up being shot down to continue to meet up with people and spend some time with
Bismarck while he was available - he's working staff this weekend, and they kept him very busy yesterday.
Things eventually winded down though. Had a fairly nice dinner at a Chinese buffet last night (Called the Golden Palace), went back to the room and chilled for a bit before going to see the fireworks display with Bismarck. It was pretty, but... well, not really the romantic experience I initially hoped. It was over-crowded, there was lots of obnoxious noise making and a few folks that were just generally behaving inappropriately (I know, I know - fur con). That on top of the fact that Bismarck was totally out of it after his long day made it fairly disappointing, but not really any particular person's fault. Went back to the room and played "Betrayal at the House on the Hill" (which I ended up being the traitor in and got totally ROFLstomped) and more Cards Against Humanity, all before bed at 2 am again.
So now it's Saturday morning, and I managed to get up, shower, and have breakfast all before anyone else in the room woke up, and am now talking to all y'all while I wait for the furry community to collectively rise. Hoping to actually get to some panels today, but mostly I'm just going to be doing more of the same. For those of you at AC, how has the con treated you? Anyone planning for something fun today? If you want to meet up at some point, go ahead and holler at me on here, or look for the red-headed guy with the fluffy, blue and green dragon's tail. Hope to see y'all soon!

A Meme thing for AC
Posted 11 years agoGoing to be at AC in a couple of days, here's a thing for that:
Where are you staying?
The Westin
What day are you getting there?
Thursday afternoon
How are you traveling?
Driving from Southeast Michigan. Oh the wonders of the turnpike
Who will you be rooming with?
Bismarck
iKaz and one other person whose username I don't know
How is the best way to find you?
Make plans to meet me on here. Or try to text me (note me for my number). Or just look for the guy with the short reddish hair, glasses, and a large ass blue and green dragon's tail. But seriously, hit me up here or on Skype and I'll try to get back to you ^^
Are there any panels you might be attending?
I'm not totally sure, but I'm hoping to do the Iron Author contest again, which might mean that a lot of my Saturday will be in my room typing at the computer. Though honestly, I'll take most reasons to get out.
What do you look like?
Male, Caucasian, just under 6 feet tall, average build, short reddish hair, glasses, a good number of badges featuring a fuzzy blue dragon and a fuzzy blue and green dragon's tail.
Will you be suiting?
No, no suit for me >.>
Do you do free art?
Ummm.... you want art from me? o.O I'm flattered, but it'll probably be a stick figure
Do you do trades?
I am a full believer in the concept of trading art for notes of currency. I'll usually be the one with the notes of currency.
Do you do badges?
Sure! ... Wait, you mean wear them, right?
What is your gender?
男
How tall are you?
5 foot 11 ish. Pretty much average height.
Can I talk to you?
Sure, I like being talked to! I'll probably even talk back to you ^^
Can I touch you?
I have an unlimited number of high fives, handshakes, fist bumps, hugs, and pats on the back and shoulders.
Can I visit your room?
If you're invited, maybe. For things like video games and card games.
Can I buy you drinks?
Only if it has not been opened before or if I saw it being poured/made. Or if I already know you.
Can I give you stuff?
Sure, I love stuff!
Can I hug or snuggle with you?
Hug, yes. Snuggle, I REALLY, REALLY doubt it. I've only got one snuggle buddy.
Are you nice?
Okay, just to make it clear, I am a HUGE wiseass. Maybe even a smartass, and occasionally I'll even go into jackass areas. In all honesty, I'm a really nice guy who sometimes likes to tell jokes at other people's expense, but I really don't mean any harm. I'm very friendly.
How long are you going?
Arriving sometime on Thursday and leaving sometime on Monday
Do you have an artist table?
HAHAHHAHAHAHAHA no
Will you be going to parties?
I won't say no, but it's really unlikely. I get really uncomfortable and dizzy at parties
If I see you, how should I get your attention?
Wave, tap me on the shoulder (which is another kind of touch that I forgot to mention earlier is okay), offer me a hug from the front, or say "Kaz", "Kaze", "Wyvern", "Draggy", "Hey You", or any other word that comes to mind.
Where will you be most of the time during the day/s?
Probably checking the place out alone or with friends on Thursday, Friday and Sunday. Saturday, more of the same, but with some extra time in my room working on the Iron Author
What/where will you be eating?
Furnando's at least once. After that, who knows.
Can I come with you for food/fun/etc?
Sure! Just give me a heads up :P
Can I take your picture?
Sure.... though I'm not good in photos ^^;
What's your goal(s) for the con this year?
Have fun! Meet up with some old friends, and make some new ones hopefully.
Anyway, that's all from me! Hope to see you all there ^^

Posted 11 years agoWell, today is a totally awesome day: I just turned 22! Woot!
Though, I do kind of feel that at this point it a birthday that doesn't actually feel special... Oh well, might as well enjoy it as I can
I want to thank everyone on here who's been in contact with me over the past year. Honestly this has been one of the most amazing years of my life, and it's all thanks to you guys that it was wonderful. Seriously, thank you so much!

Pathfinder Shenanigans: A Tale of Caution
Posted 11 years agoSo for those of you who watch
Bismarck you might have been seeing his Pathfinder Shenanigans coming up, talking about his experiences playing and running games of Pathfinder. I'm going to be stealing that this week though; the game in question is the one he's running and I'm participating in, and the results of this weeks particular game pretty much fall squarely on me. And no, not in a good way. Anyway, here's what happened:
So here's the set up: the party is comprised of a ranger with a bit too much of a libido, a psionic wilder with a knack for exploding the heads of his foes, a fighter who wields a giant hammer with incredible destructive efficiency, a dwarven cleric who's as good at providing buffs as he is at holding his ale, and me, a rogue socialite who can manipulate his way out of almost any corner. The group is in the center of the major trade center of the continent, which has hundreds of different businesses and dozens of merchant houses vying for power and wealth. The most coveted position in the nation is a seat on the merchant council, where the heads of the houses - or princes - legislate the goings on in the city. One of the new candidates for a seat is a merchant house specializing in slaving, and the group is hired to make sure that they do NOT succeed.
Fortunately, we've got an 'in' to be able to get inside of the houses'.... house/palace/headquarters/whatever. There's a party one night, where many slavers, merchants and mercenaries are invited to talk business and collaborate with the head of the house. Our group was given invitations, and after a couple days of legwork, spying, forgery and planning, we feel ready to go inside and attempt to find the houses' weakness (and enjoy a party with some booze in the process).
The night starts off rather well. Everyone gets into the party without incident, and the group splits up to meet with the guests and learn more about the place. And also to drink, which has some amusing side effects of its own. After a few minutes of conversation (and one trip to the wash room to clean my mouth of the overly powerful liquor). I discover the location of the bedroom of the head of the house.
On the way to check out the door, I run into a woman who makes an off-handed remark about my identity as a kitsune, which until that point had been a total secret even to the rest of the party. She passes by rather quickly though, so I ignore her and examine the door to the masters' chambers. Finding the area to be clear, I take the moment to turn invisible, sneak up to the door and make relatively quick work of the lock. Excited to make long awaited use of my more stealthy skills, I open the door and make my way inside.
In my haste, I do not check for any traps on the door.
In a burst, an explosion of flame bellows from the door and towards me and two of my companions. Fortunately, I manage to dodge the blast while the other two, although they take damage, are still in decent condition. However, the guards are now full alert, and one of them ends up running right into me, discovering my existence in spite of my invisible state. Instead of engaging him though, I turn and run, figuring that I can hide for a moment, then rejoin the party in the main hall and pretend to have had no involvement in the break-in. And to my astonishment, it almost works. With amazing stealth checks, I manage to weave between all the guards, making my way back to the main room, laying on the ground, breaking my invisibility, and intending to feign innocence.
Remember that woman I mentioned a few paragraphs or so ago? She takes this particular moment to offer her services to the guards. She feels absolutely sure that it must be the Kitsune fellow that she saw before, and immediately casts magic to point me out. And like that, almost all of my work at returning to the party unnoticed is destroyed. Still, I manage to tell a convincing enough lie to remove some of the suspicion, buying me some extra minutes before a wizard comes to force the truth out of me.
However, it is at that point that the last disastrous thing of the evening occurs. The giant hammer that the fighter was carrying, which was invisible as to not draw too much attention, loses its invisible quality and is now visible to all of the highly alert guards. Resigned to no other options, the fighter draws the weapon, and mostly kills one guard and the woman from before. It was at that point that the session had to end.
Here are the lessons that can be gained from this story:
1. Always be more paranoid and careful than you should need to be. In my haste to try to get through the mission quickly, I did not think to check for all of the possible dangers. Because of a single roll I forgot to do, a single step I forgot to take, the entire session was derailed and what was supposed to be a nice and relaxed roleplaying session turned into a set-up for a fight for survival. Just a little lack of caution was enough to completely change the game, and there's a chance that both I and my entire party will not make it out alive. Also...
2. Sometimes, the best work in the world can be overturned by one stupid bitch. Earlier when I was initially evading the guards, my stealth ability felt completely divine. For as nerve-wracking as it was to avoid all of those enemies, I felt that i actually had some kind of chance to turn my luck completely around. However, that one woman came in and completely ruined everything, pointing to the guards my likely involvement and continuing to insist that I was guilty even after I had lowered their suspicions. While I might not have gotten out scott-free if it weren't for her, I would definitely be having a much easier time of it than I am now.
Next session, the group will be trying to fight/escape from the party now gone horribly wrong, and hopefully we'll be able to escape with most, if not all of our lives. Hopefully, you'll be seeing more of these stories in the future. Until then, see ya, and thanks for reading!

Ugh...
Posted 11 years agoSo, I'm supposed to be performing in a play tomorrow. A musical actually. More specifically, I'm playing the part of one of the leading characters. Even more specifically, I'm playing the part of The Cowardly Lion in The Wizard of Oz. It's a role that requires lots of vocal inflections and a good volume of solo singing, and I use a lot of my vocal range, both musically and theatrically speaking, to play the role.
So of course, tonight is the night where I'm suddenly hit with a scratchy throat and left unable to sing or speak very loudly. >.<
In any case, I'm currently drinking some throat coat tea and planning for lots of rest before the show tomorrow. I hope anyone who reads this will wish me luck, and if you know any other good fixes for a sore throat/ hoarse voice, I would greatly appreciate it.
