Concerning my Stream
General | Posted 11 years agoSo, my art stream is nearly ready to consider officially open! Just a couple more matters of polish to finish.
But a big concern once I do officially consider my stream open, is scheduling. What days and times would be the best for people to drop by? I personally am pretty flexible where it concerns time.

On Gallery Deletions
General | Posted 12 years agoWhy do people do this? It honestly is one of the most frustrating things I see artists do. Namely because, often their gallery is the primary source of their work one has, and unless you've archived every single piece of theirs, once the gallery is gone, that's it.
I do kindof get why, it's a sort of thing where, one no longer feels the gallery represents their current capability. I can understand that, but if I were them, I would operate two separate accounts; one for most current work, and an 'archive' gallery that holds everything ever posted.
Personally, I will never delete any work on my account, I may put/move it to scraps, but I will never delete it.
My thought process is thus: Aspiring artists are often overwhelmed by the level of skill surrounding them, and it's a very intimidating field to enter into. I know, I still remember those days. But I feel it can be encouraging for those aspiring artists to see the older work of an artist they look up to, and get a feel for how they progressed over time. This way, they're better encouraged to put the time and effort into their work, because they're seeing first hand that it can and will pay off. As opposed to being simply told that it will.
Those're my thoughts on the matter, anyway.

Streaming?
General | Posted 12 years agoI'm contemplating opening a stream channel on Tigerdile, and I'm curious;
How many of my watchers would be interested in such a thing? I'm not so confident in my ability to draw digitally, as I'm more accustomed to traditional media. Thus, I'll mostly be cleaning/coloring otherwise real media works within Photoshop initially.

Doom mod suggestion

On astronomy, and sci-fi world building.
General | Posted 12 years agoHey there, I've a question for anyone who's knowledgeable on matters of astronomy and the like.
I'm tinkering with setting up a solar system for a fictional universe, but I wanted it to have some inkling of realism. This was going to be a binary solar system, one of these stars is a red dwarf. Around this star, orbits the one life-bearing planet in this system. Now, here's where my uncertainties come from.
I know that, red dwarf stars' habitable zones are so close to them that planets within it run the risk of tidal locking (which means that, one face of a satellite always faces what it's orbiting, like our moon). So, I was wondering if the presence of a second star would generate enough pull on the planet to prevent tidal locking.
A secondary curiosity, concerning the same hypothetical star system. Say that second star was a yellow dwarf like our sun. But this star system is very old, and said star has gone through it's life cycle, and become a white dwarf. (The red dwarf need not concern itself with this, since they last the longest of any star)
Would the process of a yellow dwarf swelling to a red giant temporarily, then shedding it's outer layers totally obliterate any planet nearby? Or would it be hypothetically be possible for life to arise on such a planet afterward, since it draws most of it's heat from a different, nearer star?

Suggestions?
General | Posted 12 years agoThis goes out to all of my watchers:
What would you like to see more of? I want to not only produce quality content, but content people want to actually see and talk about. I'm open to suggestions, or constructive criticism concerning the current course of my work.
My commission scene is sadly empty, and I'd like to draw more potential customers, as well as a broader audience in general.
Thanks in advance!

I return!
General | Posted 12 years agoI'm back from my trip, and open for business once again!
Going out of state.
General | Posted 12 years agoWill be away for a month on vacation starting tonight, so I will unfortunately be unable to take commissions, until the 28th of May. I will happily be available again, then!
I'm proud of my state.
General | Posted 13 years agoWay to go, WA! We passed a pair of groundbreaking legislatures, leading the way with marijuana legalization alongside Colorado, and joining other states in passing marriage rights.
What actually offends me the most about the marriage issue, isn't even any of the homophobia, or the nonsense 'problems' people believe would arise from it. The most offensive thing to me, is the fact that we have to run human rights through public referendum.
But hopefully this sets a more positive precedent for the future.

Rainfurrest Panel Question
General | Posted 13 years agoTo anyone going to Rainfurrest this year, I have a question;
I have a panel on drawing realistic clothing (Folds and Flow it's called), and I was wondering if any of my fellow attending artists would like to assist me on it? Seeing as it's one of the last panels of the con, Sunday at 2pm, there shouldn't be much conflict.
Unless you're attending the MLP party at the same time. Bleah.

Feeling Pinkie Keen?
General | Posted 13 years agoSo, from my fellow pony fans, what're your thoughts on this episode?
Personally, I find it the worst one in the entire series. In fact, I only ever watched it once, and have no real interest in seeing it again.
Here's why:
1. The show goes through great pains to establish it's rules of magic and obey them to respectable consistency. Now, Pinkie has done bizarre things that defy physics, but they've been within acceptable limits for the show's style. But now this goes out of it's way to force a tremendous exception into our faces as the focus of the story, for absolutely no reason.
2. The precedent that it sets for it's target audience. It essentially says, 'if you can't figure out a rational explanation for something yet, a completely irrational and nonsensical explanation for it is perfectly fine, and to be respected.' Next, it'll be telling us that professional psychics and astrology aren't charlatans and nonsense.
3. That it mocks people genuinely trying to understand reality as not being, 'open' enough to nonsense, simply because it's easier to believe, as well as being narrow minded and caustic. It really ran against Twilight Sparkle's character, I felt.
4. Pinkie tells Twilight and the audience to, 'Believe in things even if you can't figure them out'. This is wrong and fallacious thinking. It can even be dangerous. It ends education and understanding.
In fact, there's a latin phrase for it: Argumentum ad ignorantum. Or, the argument from ignorance. Arguing for something one lacks knowledge about. Would anyone accept this sort of thinking about something we now know about, like medicine? Would that be an acceptable statement if we applied it to the past practice of bloodletting? Or the idea that the earth was flat?
I genuinely felt it was very anti-intellectual, and given how this show's original purpose is to provide smarter entertainment for girls, this episode really ran contrary to the overall target message.
Those're my thoughts, and honestly I disliked the reference to her 'Pinkie Sense' in Mare-Do-Well, but meh.

On the Perception of Reality.
General | Posted 13 years agoHas anyone ever seen the film, 'The Truman Show'? Although it's a comedy starring Jim Carrey, it struck a surprising chord with me, when I saw it. The essential gist of it is that, the protagonist grew up in a world artificially constructed for the needs of a tv show, to emulate real life. Everyone he ever knew were all actors behaving according to a rehearsed script for the purposes of the produc
tion.
What struck me about it, is it reminded me of a hypothesis I once held about reality, as a child.
That I, and a few rare others on earth, were the only true humans left alive. Everyone else that appeared to be human, were all androids left behind, whose sole purpose was to raise us as though whatever had nearly exterminated our kind had never occurred. I did not yet know how I would be able to distinguish real humans from fake ones, but I suspected I would, in later years, know how.
Later on, I started to wonder if, maybe I was not in fact a genuine human, but I was unwittingly a part of this very construct. How would I know the difference? Even if there was a difference, how significant could it be? The more I understood the nature of conscience, the less I held on to the aforementioned idea. It came to a point where, I then once held a view not unlike, what Mark Twain described in his story, 'The Mysterious Stranger':
Life itself is only a vision. A dream. Nothing exists, save empty space and you. And you, are but a thought.

Adoptables? What?
General | Posted 13 years agoI guess I'm behind the curve on this, but what the heck is the deal with 'adoptables'? Is it, people buying character designs when they aren't so good at making their own?
Cyborgs? Or what kind of matter are souls made from?
General | Posted 13 years agoSomething I've thought about occasionally, especially during some of my favorite science fiction settings, concerns the idea of, cybernetic/robotic races that supposedly lose their souls in exchange for immortality. Such as the Cybermen of Doctor Who, the Necrons of WH40K, the 'Forevers' in Ayreon's album '01011001', etc.
In reality, everything that comprises us, our memories and our emotions can be equated to chemical compounds and electrical impulses. The idea of a 'soul' is just our simple terminology for a more complex organic mechanism than we fully understand.
So I honestly feel that, it's perfectly reasonable to convert a sentient race into cybernetic equivalents, do away with disease and aging, and be capable of retaining emotions and individuality.
The one fictional cyber-race that I think did it right, are the symbionts of the Cybran Nation, in the Supreme Commander games. They have wholly computerized brains, which are wholly implantable/modifiable. They also are just as insightful/thoughtful as any totally organic race.
Those are just my thoughts on the matter, though.

Currently looking for a replacement for Watchtail, given it's lengthy downtime. I've found a good candidate called join.me, which doesn't have the same restrictions that UStream has, given it's not moderated.

On Waarhorse
General | Posted 14 years agoAs many of you are aware, with the spreading of this information, that Waarhorse passed last week of a heart attack. He was 48.
A former Army and California National Guard sergeant, he was also a member of the largest Catholic fraternity, the Knights of Columbus. He also at one time ran as a Republican nominee for District 56 of the California State Assembly.
A regular recognizable face at almost every furry convention, especially when he sported his uniform.
I may not have actually spoken to him face to face, but I was always pleased to see him mingling with the furs, as he represented, in my mind, the fact that the furry 'idea' has broader appeal than some folks think.
I may not have necessarily agreed with some of his ideologies, given his political stance, but I feel nothing but respect and admiration for this man.

General | Posted 14 years agoValentine's Day Massacre
General | Posted 14 years agoSo, I have a personal little variation of Valentines Day that I celebrate. I call it the, 'Valentines' Day Massacre' in reference to Al Capone's ordered slaughter of competing mobsters in 1929.
What it is, is instead of moping pitifully about my lack of a significant other, I spend the day playing as many violent and gory video games as I can.
I'm curious if, anyone has any suggestions I can fairly easily get my hands on. Or even if, anyone else has their own different ways of 'celebrating' this overly merchandised, Hallmark stock-pitch.

Rebutting Francophobic Stupidity
General | Posted 14 years agoSo it came to my attention that some asshat on Gawker.com defecated this idiotic diatribe about 'Ten things to send back to France'.
Link: http://gawker.com/5821293/10-things.....ack-to-france/
Consequently, I thought about a sarcastic rebuttal.
Here's my list of 10 things nitwits like them don't know we have because of France, because they're idiots that spout inane garbage thinking they're being funny.
No particular order:
10. Modern tanks (every tank up to the FT-17 was essentially a big landship.)
9. Smokeless gunpowder
8. Vaccinations
7. Pencils
6. The idea that diseases are caused by microbes, and not demons.
5. 2/3 of the United States' territory
4. Radiology
3. SCUBA gear
2. Hot air balloons
1. Sewing machines
And that's just naming the ones that come to mind offhand.
Something else that irritates me whenever this occurs, is somebody piping in with, 'it's just a joke'.
Well, think about it like this: What if I said, 'Your mother's a fat, syphilitic whore.' or, 'Jews are dirty money grubbing sub-humans'. Then I turned around and tried to pull the, 'Get over yourself, its a joke' shield?
I'm sorry, but tasteless jokes that mock the value of entire groups of people for nonsense reasons, especially when the deaths of thousands or more are involved, cease to be jokes.

Odd tablet problem...
General | Posted 14 years agoAm I the only one who gets motion sickness from using a tablet for painting/drawing? I don't understand it, especially since it's only just started recently. I end up feeling like I've been reading a paperback in the backseat of a dune buggy after about 10-20 minutes.
