Patreon revamp, and feedback welcome!
General | Posted 10 years agoHey all, wanted to give an update on my plans for the Patreon I have, and I welcome any feedback on what you'd like to see, or feedback on my possible changes.
I know this may be a bit TL;DR, but I have a lot on the mind about this and would love feedback.
First off, thanks to everyone who supported me over the last couple of years. Thanks to you I was able to contribute to my colorist, Vausch, and the website's coder, Quill.
I'm about to start up the Patreon again. I think I'm going to stick to monthly, and should resume on April 1st (or May 1st depending on when I start back up). Here are some changes I have in mind...
Supporting the second new comic: "InkBolt"!
-- I'll be changing the title of the Patreon soon to "Support KazJester creating webcomics" because I'd like to start doing my second project soon, called InkBolt. It's another passion project of mine, but I don't wish to create a second Patreon for it, since I don't charge per-page, and I want to generalize what public projects I work on.
I realize there are some challenges with this. I don't know what my update schedules are going to be like. I'm only one guy and some months I may do more for one comic over the other, so if you support me because you found Work Sucks, I'd worry I'd be letting ya down for focusing on a new project. However, I say that knowing I want to have fun what I'm doing and develop how I want, and this second project is a big part of that.
So if people support me, I'd like to think of the Patreon as something that lets people give "tips" for my work, whether it be for Work Sucks or InkBolt. That being said...
Cutting back/stopping my "commission" tier
-- While this was a great tier to help with supporting the comic, some of the sketch projects got really big, and now that I'm also doing a second comic, I may not have as much time as I'd like to do individual sketch rewards. Vausch would like to continue these, and I may as well, but what I'm thinking of doing instead is offering a small queue of sketch commissions so that I can offer similarly styled commissions to more people over time.
Another possible option? I may just make the sketch tier unlimited/larger and really dedicate myself to it. But, that'll depend on things. Likely, either will exist in some way.
New $10 Patreon-only "thank you" art tier!
-- This one I've been thinking of for a while, and I think it'd work out great, and make up for cutting back on the custom sketch tier. Each month, I'd do 1 piece of art that I will send to patrons at full resolution, featuring characters from the comics and situations the characters would normally be in.
I would even have a place for patrons to suggest ideas for pictures they'd like to see, but that wouldn't be something I'd dedicate to using, just a pool of ideas I could grab from if an idea seems really fun. I'd either aim for a full inked picture, or colored sketch, depending on the idea and complexity. This offers some challenges though. Do I do focus on one comic, meaning the reward could be for one you're not fully supporting? Do I have 1 group of patrons who get a Work Sucks doodle and another that get an InkBolt doodle? Do I just do both and offer them somehow that way?
NOTE: I would still like to use these images to support and advertise the Patreon, so I would still post these, but shrunken down and watermarked in a way that guarantees patrons have the full/best version.
Changes to the $1 and $5 tiers
-- Sketch previews will be switched to the 1 dollar tier. I don't do enough concept sketches on a regular basis, and want to thank anyone who supports me. I'll be thinking of a new ideas for the $5 tier but for now it'll remain as a tier for special tipping and such.
Possible $5 tier idea: An interactive patron-supported project where patrons suggest what happens next (aka ripping that idea off) but something more in line with my tastes and such.
No unlocks
-- Sorry, I'm just bad at thinking up of them, and have enough stuff on my mind and plate that I'll probably not create many (if any) unlock goals.

Guest Comics - The Future of Work Sucks - And... InkBolt?
General | Posted 10 years agoI figured it'd be good to give a big status update with my projects. I know I've sorta disappeared from here for the past few months during my break and it wouldn't hurt to go over some of the big things on my mind.
--- Guest Comics ---
Starting tomorrow, the first of the guest comics for Work Sucks should be going up! Sorry for the delay, but I wanted to give people more time. And speaking of, while there were a lot of people interested, only 1 comic has been delivered so far, so please, if you'd like to be featured on the site, get those comics in soon! I'll be featuring them in order I received them, and would love to showcase your art :D
--- Future of Work Sucks ---
It's funny, thinking about things slowed down when I finally got a new job, and well, work didn't "suck" as much anymore. Eh, all jobs kinda suck in their own ways, and the comic was, and always will continue to be, a great way to vent or just draw all the monsters inhaling stuff I've always wanted to draw. So yeah, I'll be continuing to do the comic. I love these characters and the situations I unfortunately put them in.
BUT, I do want to work on other projects, and working full time as I still need to do, I don't have all the time in the world as I wish I did :x So that may mean output for Work Sucks might be more when I feel I really need to draw those furry dorks getting gobbled up by monsters, and other times, might be something I do consistently! Actually, what I'd really love to do is be able to work on 2 projects at once, and speaking of...
--- InkBolt ---
In case you haven't seen a lot of the concept sketches I've been doing for it (*cough*FA follow me on tumblr*cough*) you can check them out at this link of posts tagged for it: kazjester.tumblr.com/tagged/InkBolt
I've been wanting to do an action comic for a long time, and have sort of poked at the idea with the aliens/monsters stuff for a while, sketches here and there, but I've never hit the idea up pretty hard. I had concepts in my head, but they couldn't translate to the pen. I wanted to work on drawing humans more, too, and develop my style with them.
Then one day, I had a thought of "What if I took all the stuff I learned from Work Sucks (for good and worse), and pushed it farther in an action comic direction?" and well, the concept of a human turning into a big bad inflatable wolf was born who fought and punched other toons. It shares a lot with my previous idea, and is basically "Guyver meets Toon Town"! It'll give me a chance to draw more toonified furry things, as well as practice on humans, and I hope you'll give it a chance, too!
--- Patreon ---
Oh, as a bonus thought, I'm thinking of what I'd need to do for my Patreon. Juggling two at once would make sure that they're separate, but I really think I should change it more to "Support KazJester making webcomics!" and not try to get in over my head :x I have a new reward tier I'm going to add, where each month patrons gets a special themed single picture at hi-res, but working on getting back to Work Sucks and my new project is my top priority.
Would love to hear thoughts on any of these! I know it's a lot of text but I've had a lot on my mind recently!

Guest Chapter Update
General | Posted 10 years agoHey, all!
I've definitely decided to do a guest chapter as I work on some things that have built up for a while. Patreon campaign will go on hold and relaunch when WS returns, with updated tiers. Working on some other BIG things as well :D
I've received a couple guest comics so far. I'll be starting the Guest chapter at the start of the next month, and will be posting comics in the order I received them.
If you've contacted me about doing a guest comic, the site uses the PNG format and will resize larger comics down to 1020 pixel width (height doesn't matter) so please keep that in mind or let me know if it has to be a bit bitter to display correctly.

Possible November Break - Guest comics maybe? (Update: FULL)
General | Posted 10 years ago(Ah I had quite a few responses and I'm afraid it filled up really fast! Working on contacting the artists and setting things up so thanks for your support everyone!)
Hey guys, I haven't been up for posting much comic-wise the last couple weeks. I'm thinking, for personal reasons, may take a break in November. I feel like I kind of need it. There's some things I need to do. May use it to work on a project I have in my head, will still work on Work Sucks as I feel up to it, of course, too!
Patreon won't be charged for Nov at the end of the month if I do this, and of course the art that is owed for Oct payments will still go through.
I was thinking, if you're interested in maybe doing a guest comic this month, hit me up! Just message me if you're up for it, and we can see if we can feature you :D

Vausch's bonus comic "Mimic" has updated and concluded. Oreck's fate is finally revealed. Oh poor Oreck, to be cruelly named after a vacuum cleaner in such a world...

Work Sucks Update - Filler Comic: Kaz's Webcomic
General | Posted 10 years agohttps://www.worksuckscomic.com <-- Click here for the comic!
A filler comic this week, just taking another opportunity to make fun of Kaz (and myself).
Next week we should be back to normal, I just really wanted to get something done for this week, even if it was a bit more sketchy and spur of the moment. I included another filler-type comic that was drawn a while ago, but never got a chance to upload it on this site yet.
Vausch should be having his conclusion to his Mimic bonus comic finished this week, too!

On FA Updates
General | Posted 10 years agoSo, first off, thank you for all the support here on FA. As I move on to the new chapter, I'm wondering something. Are you okay with the "new page" updates I do? I did eventually upload the full pages for archival purposes, and the traffic the updates bring is greatly appreciated.
At this point, is it cool to keep doing that, as long as I update the full pages? Most webcomics don't really do that, but it was a hold-over from when I originally did only upload the comic here. But, the website comes first, so one of the possible solutions could be to just upload full pages here a week or two later.
Or I could just continue what I do if that's not too much of a hassle!
How about how I tag it? Even pages that don't contain furries getting gobbled up contain the "vore" tag here, just because I want to give a good heads up to anyone clicking the links. Sound fair, or should I change the FA tags depending on the page's content?

Work Sucks Update - Fan Art Showcase!
General | Posted 10 years agohttp://www.worksuckscomic.com/
Hey guys, this week, unfortunately due to a combination of personal things, I didn't really have a page ready for today. Nickwolf suggested I do a guest art showcase, so I got together some recent fanart pages and am showing them off on the site!
Big thanks to:
nickwolf
hyenahyena
gtb23
puca-puca
And especially a big thanks for such a last minute ask! Check out their works, they're pretty awesome!

puca-puca continues his saga of a monster who just wanted a meal, and now feels the weight of his decision more than he's ever felt before.
It really is a touching tale if you think about it.

New update for the bonus comic! Sorry to have stalled for so long but I wanted to finish this one before I started my next bonus comic ideas.
Also, want to help me in a very simple way? Go to the main page and click on the green button on the link-icon bar. It's the green one with the orange fruit that say "Jade's Top Anthro Webcomics". It'll be a small help, and also you might find some other cool furry comics there, too!

200 Pages of Suck
General | Posted 11 years agoI still can't believe I've hit that milestone! Here's to hoping for more of the continual adventures (suffering) of a cast I've really adored drawing for so long.
So I was thinking something fun to do would be to ask, after 200ish pages of Work Sucks, what's been your favorite moment, gag/joke, character, scene, situation, monster, or design so far?
I guess it's only fair that I give my favorites, too!
Favorite Character: While I feel it's a tie between Terra and Gayle, I have to go with Terra. Gayle feels like how I express my jadedness/snark with work, but Terra is the opposite, and really wants to have pride with the work she does. I think in many jobs it can be tough to keep a positive attitude, and that's what's cool about Terra.
Favorite Moment: The "interview" with Gayle and the duel Kaz and Gayle had with the goop guns. I felt that was such a fun, perfect moment in the comic and encapsulates why I love doing this.
Favorite Monster: The plant from the first few pages of the comic will always have a place in my heart.
Favorite Gag: This one - http://www.worksuckscomic.com/comic.....ve.php?page=46
So any favorites of yours?

Ask the Cast!
General | Posted 11 years agoLet's try something weird here. Hopefully fun, or at least hopefully scarring enough to get some entertainment.
Ask a question to a cast member! I'll do my best to reply from the perspective of that cast member, but keep in mind I still need to avoid spoilers, or being too in-character for some of them.

Announcing the "Work Sucks" Patreon!
General | Posted 11 years agohttp://www.patreon.com/kazjester
With this I've launched my Patreon for the webcomic, and I'm pretty excited! I feel that I have a comic that's very unique as it is weird, as it is personal. It's something I've chosen to share with everyone, and I thank you all for your support.
But I have a colorist I want to support. Vausch works his butt off to make the comic shine as well as it has been, and this Patreon is a good first step to helping him out, too. This support will also make it easier for me to update and expand the website, and work toward bigger goals in the future.
There's a sketch reward tier, as well! Things are limited right now as I'm testing the waters with Patreon, but I hope to one day expand the reward tiers, too, or open up more support slots and such.
Again, thanks to everyone who has supported the comic in the past, and in the future.

New Tumblr of Mine (vore themed/NSFWish)
General | Posted 11 years agoWhat's that? I do a vore webcomic but hardly talk about vore? I dunno, I'd kinda want to be a bit more open about it, but still keep it on the side, and designate it as such, so I've made a new tumblr you can follow if ya want:
http://jesterbelly.tumblr.com/
It's gonna focus mostly on vore art, discussion, and reblogs, as well as other stuff I want to share or other kinks to explore. I just wanted a proper environment to tag stuff as NSFWish and not post it in the same blog where I go "hey check out this cool cartoon I saw!"
Make sense? Feel free to ask, discuss, share what you want there. It's pretty much just me being me while still being considerate of different audiences.

General | Posted 12 years agoOnce I get back into the swing of things, and once the next chapter has started up, I’ve decided I’m going to give Patreon a chance. I’ll be honest, I’m unsure what sort of luck I’d have with it, but week after week I’ve put out this comic, poured so many hours, and put so much of myself on display that I need to give it a shot!
I have a very niche comic that is a bit different than a lot of comics out there, and I think fans would be willing to support, even if just by a little. I think I could find some support tiers for those fans at well that are both fair to them and me.
Pledge $5 an update? I’ll do a sketch of a monster or character you describe, and it might even make it into the BG at some point!
Pledge $10 an update? I’ll do a sketched commission for ya of whatever ya like (that would fit in the world and theme of the comic, of course).
The idea would be that people are supporting the comic first and foremost. I dunno… thoughts?

Website Bestiary Update
General | Posted 12 years agohttp://www.worksuckscomic.com/best.php
Finally got around to updating the bestiary on the site. 20 new entries, bringing the bestiary (mostly) up to date with all the major monsters, or some fun extras I wanted to add.
Next I need to update the cast page, and update a few graphical features of the site. Feels pretty good to get around to updating some stuff, and hopefully bigger updates are on the way!

Housing Update and Cartoon Blabbering
General | Posted 12 years agoWell, guess not woes anymore. We found a place so now all that's left is to move and be done with it. So, while that will take me out of things for a bit, updates will continue and I'll be able to start drawing again sooner than later!
Also, totally unrelated but maybe as a stress-coping mechanism but me and the roommate got into this neat little show called "From the New World". It's pretty dark, a bit experimental/rough with how it does some of its animation, but it really left an impression.
It also makes a really weird and mysterious first impression, but if the concept really grabs you by the first few episodes I think you'll dig it!

Update on the wonderful happenings of February
General | Posted 12 years ago... and being screwed over by housing banks!
Getting kicked out of my home due to the bank wanting not wanting to renew. Don't really get a say in the matter so we have to find a new place by the end of the month. So... busy month!
Guest month couldn't have happened at a better time then. Comic updates will still happen, but unfortunately my output to make a buffer or draw on the side will slow a bit. Either way, I have all slots filled, so stay tuned for the updates.

Planned Website Updates
General | Posted 12 years agoJust wanted to kinda brainstorm and list out things I want to do for the website. Nothing really big, but any feedback would also be welcome.
In no particular order:
- Update some of the buttons (keep greyscale or color them?)
- Update the bestiary
- Add a "support" section to the website
* Give banners for linking, or links in general to promote the site?
* Donate button (would also be on main page) or something similar...
* Store?
- Update the font, keeping it still in line with handwriting, but more vectorized and evenly set up
Also, guest month in a couple weeks! So that should give me more time to do some of this.
Also also, I really want to start thinking about a support structure for the comic. Whether it be merchandise or a donation system, I think after a few years of doing the comic I'm pretty committed to it. With support from fans I think I'd be able to do a bit more, such as make sure I can support my colorist and other new features, and keep the site running.

Follow These Steps. Trust me.

What Traits in Monsters Do You Like?
General | Posted 12 years ago(Reblogging this here because monsters are awesome.)
People always go on about monsters that scare the crud out of them, or certain monsterific qualities that give them the heebie-jeebies, but what about monstrous stuff that you like, instead?
Maybe you’re a weirdo like me who revels in monsters, whether they be cute, cuddly, carnivorous, or any types of crazy. Maybe you still like them to be scary?
I don’t care if it’s seeing the buckets of blood and guts, or pushing the buttons of your odd kink, or just because you love to see the idea explored in writing/art/movies/fiction/real-life!
What do you like in monsters? What traits do you love to see?
FA HARD MODE: "They eat people" isn't a cool enough trait on its own, but I've heard some really cool ways on how monsters can eat, instead.

Weasyl Account

It would be silly to not sort of stay up to date. I'll still be updating here though.
Though... I really don't know how to handle the updates of the comic. I don't want all the galleries just to be update notices only. I hope this is a good incentive to do more original pieces.
I've also been thinking maybe I should open up to commissions at some point? I'd probably take a strict stance on what I'd do (if I wouldn't put it in the comic, I'd probably not want to do it, for example). Not sure if I'll do it, but just a heads up.
Also, in 3 weeks it's guest month! I'm super excited as there are a lot of fun ideas floating around. I was thinking, maybe I could put out a public notice that if you wanna do guest comics, I could have a sort of queue set up for submissions later, or you can do "bonus" comics too that'd be featured on the site.
