Vote on the Next Bonus Comic I Draw - (Update: #3 Wins!)
General | Posted 13 years agoI've tallied up the votes and #3 has won. This works out perfectly, as I think #3 will make for a great bonus side-comic. As for fans of #2 (ha ha) then let's just say that might work out for the actual comic coming up in a few pages.
I think in a couple weeks I'm going to start a bonus comic that I'll contribute. So, I thought I'd make this a little interactive.
In the comments below, vote on one idea, and the one that gets the most votes will be next. I'll do them in the order of the most votes, or maybe I'll throw in new ideas for future polls.
And, as much as I shouldn't do this, I'll even tease what each one will contain:
Idea #1: A Furry Tattoo (paper transformation, body tattoos)
Idea #2: The New Musical (plant vore)
Idea #3: The Disastrous Board Game Night (board-game themed transformations, cartoon physics)

Musicals! (Recommend me some)
General | Posted 13 years agoIf you've ever been to any of my streams, you know I love musicals (I apologize to those I've subject the horrors of the sung word to...)

Announcing Work Sucks - Bonus Comics!
General | Posted 13 years agohttp://www.worksuckscomic.com/bonus.php
I'm happy to unveil a new section on the website, for bonus comics having to do with the world of Work Sucks!
The first one up is page 1 of a series called Life Sucks, which should be a series of comics from my colorist Vausch about living in the Work Sucks universe.
I want to do some as well, so this should be an interesting experiment. There's no set upload date for these comics, but we expect to update them mid-week when there are updates to be had.
Thanks again to
Puca-Puca for the idea to have this new feature on the site!

General | Posted 13 years agoI figured since some people are interested, I'd give instructions!
1. Go to Chess.com and sign up for a free account (it's totally free)
2. Go to this page: http://www.chess.com/members/view/KazJester
3. Select "Challenge to play" and set up a game!
Simple, no? This is asynchronous, so each person takes their move at their own leisure.
I'm fairly average when it comes to chess. I know the fundamentals, but am still learning a lot else.

A sort of hiatus, but the comic still goes on.
General | Posted 13 years agoI'm pretty psyched that it's guest month now. There's going to be a great lineup of comics with varying styles and takes on Work Sucks, so it should be a ton of fun!
It comes at a great time. I'm on hiatus now because work has gone pretty crazy, and I'm pretty much at work 6-7 days a week now. So, in the mean time, enjoy other takes on the characters and world of the comic while I try not to fry my brains.
I'll still be drawing, though, in a week or so when I have time. I want to make sure I get some character and city concepts done in time for the next chapter, and start drawing the next chapter itself. I'd like to say I'd have a buffer going soon, but work will kind of determine if that's possible or not.
Otherwise, again, thank you for all the support! Enjoy the upcoming guest comics, and keep spreading the word on the comic!

Work Sucks, and Word Spreads?
General | Posted 13 years agoSo I've learned that my colorist
Puca-Puca had set up a TVTropes page a while back in order to get more exposure. It's pretty neat! Other people have already added to it, it seems, so I'm curious what else will be added, too.
http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.p.....omic/WorkSucks
Got me kinda wondering about if this comic is becoming more and more known. I admit I often wonder if it's best to keep it secluded, but then again, I'm the crazy guy who has an ad on FA in the first place.
I don't really feel that I should go out of my way, myself, to try and promote it. Because of the subject matter, I can't just go up on a forum and be like "Hey, check out this comic!"
I think it's better to have it kind of spread naturally, I suppose, but that doesn't mean I wouldn't promote the comic through official ads, on my own, at least.

Work Sucks Merchandise? Plush monsters.
General | Posted 13 years agoSo this really isn't happening yet, but I was wondering if it'd be fun to do some day. What if I sold plushes/figures of the monsters in the comic.
Just think, your very own Lilliput to hug and to hold!

Is it worth streaming comic pages?
General | Posted 13 years agoI stopped doing them for not wanting to spoil upcoming pages... but then I thought that people are choosing to click on them anyways, and they don't see the text.
Worth doing? Or better to only stream new/random art?

Question Time! Who's your favorite character/monster?
General | Posted 13 years agoWho's your favorite character or monster so far, and why?
Minecraft Servers?
General | Posted 13 years agoSo... I haven't played it in ages, and kinda want to play Minecraft again. Anyone know of any good Minecraf servers to use?
I never really tried playing online, so I want to give it a shot.

Who Would Play Kaz?
General | Posted 13 years agoIn the live-action movie adaptation of Work Sucks, who would play Kaz, Gayle, and Terra?
Bonus: Who would play Epicena?

Your Own Pet Monster
General | Posted 13 years agoQuestion time!
So if you had your own pet monster, much like Kaz's Zeppy, of Epicena's Hatch, what would it be like? I can be any shape/size.
Living inside it is optional.

Advertising Follow Up
General | Posted 13 years agoHey all. I just got approved for posting Project Wonderful ads on the site. While I'm not expecting anything big, a little support will go a long way to help keep down hosting/advertising costs.
I thank everyone for their support so far! I hope you understand my need to throw a few ads up on there, since this site is entirely supported out of my pockets. I'm looking to keep the ads on the bottoms or to the sides at least, but I'll look into what appears best this week.

Advertising? (Let's talk business)
General | Posted 13 years agoSo, I was thinking that I need a way to cover hosting costs for Work Sucks. I don't need a lot of money each year, just maybe a way to cover the costs of hosting the comic and advertising it to get viewership. So, I was thinking of just putting a couple ads on the site, either on the side, or somewhere not too obtrusive (like under every comic page so that it's not pushing against the sides, so that you see the comic first, before you see the ads).
Any thoughts or suggestions? Any good services, like Google ads or Project Wonderful? Is this a bad idea? I'm not looking to make any sort of profit off the site, I just need to support hosting it, and getting word out, but those definite cost me money out of pocket.

How would you survive in Kaz's world?
General | Posted 13 years agoSo, while I might regret asking this, I'm curious to know. The world of Work Sucks is quite the dangerous place. If some hoovering monster doesn't get you, some other peril will.
How would you live in that world?
Be an explorer, or live in the city? Traverse freely, or duct tape yourself to the ground? How do you see yourself dealing with the monsters and traps of the world?
No real point to this, but I figured, why not provoke people to leave possibly embarrassing or amusing comments.

I could gush over this show for hours
General | Posted 13 years agoCronenbergism
General | Posted 13 years agoSo I've been watching old movies lately. First Robocop, then the Fly, and now checking out the Evil Dead for the first time. I just had a weird thought.
What if I went and tried doing a Cronenberg-esque piece? Like, going all out with bizaar imagery or even the grotesque/surreal? I don't think I've really pushed myself that far in that direction, so it could be fun to try.
Or... I could always fall back and do Hellraiser Cenobite ponies, if that'd be something :-P

State of the Comic, and other Musings
General | Posted 14 years ago1. Holy cow, I'm still not bored with doing this comic! Who knew it could actually be quite fun.
2. I need to doodle more actual doodles, now that I don't make the comic the focus of this gallery anymore, so don't worry, you'll actually see more than just comic updates (I hope!) and on top of that, after a month I archive the old pages in the scraps, so it's still going to have the full comic here , just severely delayed.
3. I've discovered I have a severe complex over watching artists on FA, so I'm trying to overcome that, and actually get to see more awesome art that people produce.
4. I need to draw more stuff outside of just the comic, so I'm hoping to doodle more characters and random monsters and stuff. Kind of a repeat of 2, but not?
5. This movie looks so cool:

I think I should stop/delay the comic on FA
General | Posted 14 years agoSo I finally thought about this: Uploading to sites like FA and DA gives people less of an incentive to actually go to the site (which I pay for hosting).
So to fix that, I can either:
-Delay the comic on FA by a couple weeks
-Stop uploading to FA/DA entirely
This would definitely encourage people to go to the WS website first, but I think I like the former option more than the latter. I like having a secondary place people can see the comic and learn about the site. It's a form of advertising on its own.
Also, while I wouldn't expect anyone to really use it, I was thinking of adding a donation button, just to help out a little bit with the hosting.
Any thoughts?
EDIT: So here's a proposed plan. I upload a teaser image each week, pointing to the site, and then after a week or so, I change the image to the actual comic page for an archive. Also, I'll be moving all comic pages to scraps in order to encourage myself to actually draw things and declutter the gallery. So the comic's not leaving, it's just moved.

What a weird movie.
General | Posted 14 years agoI usually am not one to post videos here ala Facebook or anything, but man, I just remembered this movie from when I was growing up. It was so bizarre to me, and so different from other Disney movies at the time, but now I have the perspective of knowing it was meant to be a sort of propaganda/promotional film, and I feel it gives better context.
Now that I think about it, there was just so many weird little things that happened in those Disney films growing up. Don't get me started on stuff like the pink elephants. Also, Mexican Bird guy is the best bird guy, ever.

Work Sucks Bestiary page finally up
General | Posted 14 years agohttp://www.worksuckscomic.com/best.php
I have to upload the rest of the images, but as you can tell, I've decided to go a certain way with it. Pretty much this page is meant to expand upon any of the monsters that are seen over the course of the comic, even if they aren't given a single line of exposition in the comic itself.

Oh hey, I have a webcomic site now!
General | Posted 14 years agohttp://www.worksuckscomic.com/
Not sure what will come of all this, but I'm pretty sure I've lost some of my sanity to think this was a good idea.

On a short hiatus, but it'll be worth it!
General | Posted 14 years agoNot much in the way of new comics going on, yet all the stuff I'm doing lately is around the comic. Let's just say in a week or two I'm hoping to get it ready to go, but it's kind of obvious to figure out what I mean, exactly (if you go by my last journal).
