Because one Master of Orion journal wasn't enough
Posted 9 years agoSo I was playing the new Master of Orion
Posted 9 years agoAnd there was a popularity contest between the space bugs and space cats.
Space bugs won and became leaders of all sentient beings in the galaxy. Be careful what you wish for.
Alternatively, you can win by having your space bugs vanish except for their exoskeletons. And then you "continue playing"...?
Still trying to figure that one out. Wherever the space bugs went, if they don't have their exoskeletons then they're naked. I'd say "imagine if Dracobug didn't have an exoskeleton", but I don't want to give anyone funny ideas.

Update (or non-update) on Vore Game
Posted 9 years agoI know you're all just dying to hear news from me about my Vore Game, but I haven't been working on it lately. By no means is it discontinued, but don't hold your breath for the next version to all of a sudden come out.
The plan is still to go with creating a single character mode. Someone submitted a boss for use in SCM, so at least that part is taken care of from the creative standpoint.
I have ideas of my own, but I'm wondering if anyone has any items or spells they might like to see. This'll be a similar "combat engine" to certain other text RPGs out there, or like Final Fantasy with your choice of Fight, Magic, or Item.
My thought is that magic is somewhat weak, but the mana recharges, while Items are somewhat stronger, but you only get a few. I can include the standard heals and direct-damage, but does anyone want to see something more exciting?

10-25-2016 - Vore Game Survey Results
Posted 9 years ago12 respondents on the latest vore game survey. Thank you to all who filled it out!
Looks like, on the whole, we're in a fairly decent spot regarding game balance. I made some significant nerfs to the most overpowered abilities, and the poll results altogether went toward the center. Alaris is slightly too weak, so I'll increase her damage numbers a little. Zetsu is a little too strong; I'll add a 25% or 33% chance for charmed characters to snap out of it on their own. It's a bit harsh when Magic Rope is required to rescue swallowed characters and Stun Grenade is required to rescue charmed characters. There's just not enough mana to go around.
Chronos is also said to be slightly too strong. I'll reduce his damage by a little bit.
Skills are altogether in a good spot. Nobody marked anything as "overpowered" this time around. I don't mind that some skills are strong and weak as long as they have some use somewhere. For example, Light Heal may not be terribly efficient, but if you need a heal and lack mana for the strong version, you're going to use it. All the rogue skills (except smoke grenade) got some strong votes, but it's balanced by big mana costs.
The sea serpent boss is about 50% added at this point. After I finish adding him, that'll be v5 and I'll see about adding moves for bellied characters. I'm concerned at this point it'll drastically change the difficulty level, so we'll take it one step at a time.
After that, a lot of participants are interested in a single-character mode (SCM), and so am I. For anyone interested in submitting another boss, please frame it as being against a single character. It's okay to also have stuff against a whole party, but that won't be implemented right away. The SCM will probably play out more like certain other games you've seen, with items (limited) and magic (recharging mana), so you could have your boss steal mana, restrict item usage, etc. Swallowing the SC should also be a thing, then the character can escape and keep fighting.
I'm willing to take any of several approaches for how the boss wins. It could be instant on the SC's health reaching zero, or go through some other series of actions, like the SC has to take "digestion damage" to zero health in order to lose. Sky's the limit. Let me know your ideas. If nobody sends anything in, I'll think of something myself. It'll probably be buggies.
It's usually buggies.

Vore Game Survey Results (and game design musings)
Posted 9 years agoI said I'd post the results, so...
Unfortunately, I only got 7 replies (thank you to those who filled it out!), which is not quite the sample size I was hoping for, but, y'know, pretty typical for my 10 years here on FurAffinity...
It looks like as far as bosses go, Alaris is too weak, Zetsu is too strong, and Chronos is too weak. KD is either too strong, too weak, or just right. I get that a lot. Appropriate modifications will be made to these bosses next version. For KD, I will add equal numbers of buffs and nerfs that will accomplish nothing overall.
On fighter, the normal attack and berserk attack are said to be a little too strong. They'll be weakened slightly. Not too much, since fighters are only good at one thing (doing damage), so they shouldn't be too bad at that, eh?
Looks like rogues altogether have a nice skill set, with the exception of Smoke Bomb. I admit that Smoke Bomb's effect is so specific and whiffs so often, it's not hard to see why it got a lot of Weak votes. The intent was to protect a specific target, but since it doesn't work against group attacks and it's better just to heal them, it's just rendered obsolete by heals.
Magic rope is getting a lot of positive votes. I want to have a way to rescue swallowed teammates, but hey, this is a vore game! It should have a cost. I may increase its mana cost by 1 and see what happens. I'm also considering to give rogues both mana and a limited number of items, so they can only use magic rope once per battle. I've also been considering allowing swallowed party members to have a special set of actions, like squirm out of being belly'd.
Stun grenade may also be too strong. I may prefer to solve this by just making it override what the boss would have done, rather than it being a turn skipper. As in, they would then do "a certain attack" instead of "nothing".
Amusingly, Spot Weakness got equal votes in all directions. Useless? Overpowered? Both?!
On Healer, I almost didn't want to put Healer Attack on there because I knew most people would vote it Weak or Useless. I already know.
Group Heal got a lot of positive votes. It doesn't actually heal that much (~10 hit points on each party member), but I guess it's just too good at saving multiple party members from exhaustion.
Aside from the tweaks above, I have some ideas to make things more challenging. I think it might make things a lot more interesting if the boss gets a free chance to eat a zero-health party member and knock them out of the fight after its normal move, instead of as its normal move. That way you can't just wait for a party member to be Exhausted and then heal.

How to submit a KD's Boss Battles boss
Posted 9 years agoHere's what a boss needs.
Ground Rules:
- No profanity. I prefer my language PG-rated, but anything allowed on American primetime network television would be okay.
- No humans, half-humans, elves, dark elves, dawn elves, dusk elves, twilight elves, or dwarves.
- No extreme violence.
- No extreme fetishes.
- No sexual intercourse.
- Oral vore, soul vore, and CV only. (I may accept certain non-fringe alternatives, like tentacle vore.)
Bosses MUST have these five things:
- An intro ("Hello, my name is Inigo Montoya.")
- An outro where the boss wins ("You were all so delicious.")
- An outro where the party wins ("Owww! Why you hurt dracobug??")
- At least one attack that does damage to the party.
- At least one way for bosses to "finish off" party members at zero health (also known as "Exhausted").
Bosses can have these:
- As many attacks as you want.
- As many ways to devour heroes as you want.
- Responses to the heroes using Stun Grenade (otherwise I will write something simple).
- Responses to the heroes using Magic Rope (otherwise this will be omitted).
- Deviations from the normal gameplay, e.g. making the player pick from a list of options.
- Multiple outros, for example depending on how many heroes were digested before winning.
- Moves with special conditions (If it can be phrased as "If X happens, then the boss does Y", I can do it.)
- Weird moves, strategies, strings of attacks, or responses to what the heroes are doing.
- Nobody has yet suggested anything impossible, and I've done my best to add unusual effects like Zetsu's charm, and Relivern's sadistic choice.
It is helpful if you do this:
Any time a word can be variable, it's helpful to single it out for me in a consistent manner, e.g.
[CHARACTER] - The target of an attack.
[HIS], [HIM], [HE] - Automatically replace with the right pronoun.
[DAMAGES], [DAMAGING], [DAMAGED] - replaces the word with the right verb: "scratches", "gravely injuring".
[WILD CARD] - You can provide a reference list of words to fill in anywhere. Lord Treval makes extensive use of this so you rarely see the exact same phrasing twice.
For example, you could have your boss say, "My favorite food is [1]."
And then provide me a key to indicate that "[1]" is to be randomly filled in with "candy bars", "Tofurky", "dollar store Oreos", or "dragon hatchlings".

Thinking about making a vore IF/RPG boss battle game
Posted 9 years agoThis is something I've been musing about for a while, and it's been strong again all a'sudden today.
I wanna make a game that's kind of like Flexible Survival or Noone's Fatty Text Adventure Game. but instead of all this silliness about adventuring and picking up items and fighting random weakling monsters, this one is just about boss battles.
It'll have an RPG-like system where you have a party of five or whatever with classes (fighter, rogue, healer, etc.), and you fight a big monster. And you try to beat up the monster and keep your health points up while the monster tries to beat you up and eat and digest your party members and spit out their bones and laugh at you.
And none of this silly reforming business. If you only win with one adventurer left because the others got gobbled, then that's what your final score will say! Nyeah!
I'd probably make it in Visual Basic and build the whole thing from scratch, as I know approximately zero about using Flash or an actual Interactive Fiction engine for such things. I don't think it'd be terribly difficult to start with a proof of concept and start adding features from there.
But I dunno ... games are so fun, and I'm working on something else pretty exciting right now...

Oasis Legal Finance Ad
Posted 10 years agoListen to this, at 1:31. The link should skip directly there.

Doesn't it sound like he says "Oasis -- they killed a man. They helped me out."?
It's a really gutsy move by Oasis to video a murder witness and broadcast his testimony in their ad. It's like that scene in Last Action Hero where the bad guy shoots someone (and he did it on purpose) and nobody cares.

Happy Mirror Dragon

That was posted for the Flight Rising comic contest that went on a little while back, but I just realized... that's one exceedingly cheerful mirror dragon.
He celebrates all the holidays, probably just as an excuse to drink sugar water and collect lots of s. That's the dracobug way.
I imagine that after he says "I hope you are enjoying the 1! If you bring me some s, we can trade!", he waves his little pink flag around and is just like "Yay! Made-up holidays! Bring on the sugar water!"

Posted 10 years agoDeep Thoughts With KD
Posted 10 years agoFor purposes of the "X Items or Fewer" lines at the grocery store, how many items is a bag of grapes?
Bulk produce priced by the pound goes through the scanning process by being weighed on a scale at the register, and then the cashier manually keys in whatever item corresponds to that weight. Grapes, in this case.
The scale is large enough that multiple bags can be set up on the scale. Two is pretty easy, but I've seen three.
It seems to me that you could take 40 bags of grapes to the 20 Items or Fewer line at the store. When they protest that you clearly have more than 20 items, you can cleverly reply with, "Let's make a bet. I bet you a nickel that my receipt at the end of our little business transaction here will have a number that is equal to or less than 20, thus allowing me to be in this line. Oh, and you better be quick. There's aq que cue queue forming behind me."
You will be the winner of that bet, and earn yourself a cool 5ยข.
Then you're stuck with 40 bags of grapes that you can't possibly eat before they spoil.

Some thoughts about Quest For Glory IV
Posted 10 years agoIn Quest For Glory IV, there's a puzzle that first appears to be a Moon Logic Puzzle. To paint it in the worst possible light, it goes a little like this:
You need to get into Baba Yaga's house because she has something you need. Her doorman, a skull with a laser-beam eye, won't let you pass unless you give him a nice hat. To get a nice hat, you need to tell an old man, Nikolai, that his wife has died and become a ghost so that he wanders out into the monster-infested woods after her, where Nikolai is promptly eaten by monsters and is now free to give you his ghost(!) hat.
That doesn't sound very heroic, but there are two paths that make this pretty logical.
One, there aren't very many hats in the game. The Burgomeister has a sort of fur cap, but Nikolai is the only one who really has a hat, and it's a pretty nice hat.
Two, you first find Nikolai wandering around in a circle in the middle of town, saying nothing except "Anna? Where is Anna? Have you seen Anna?" Well, that sounds like a sidequest to me! It's a hero's duty to complete sidequests.
Well, you find a confused ghost out in the forest at night. At first, she doesn't even believe that she's a ghost. After talking to her enough, she finally realizes that you're telling the truth. She's Anna, Nikolai's wife, and she was eaten by a monster in the monster-infested woods. Bad luck.
So you just go back to Nikolai and say, "Hey bro, sad news. I found Anna. She was eaten by monsters while wandering in the monster-infested woods."
Nikolai, being just slightly senile, says, "You found Anna? Where is Anna? I must go to Anna."
And you're like, "Well, yeah, bro, but she's a ghost. You know the bit that was all like 'til death do you part'? That's your situation, bro."
And Nikolai will have none of it. He elbows right past you, going, "Anna! I will find you Anna!"
Well, you go back to where Anna was in the forest, and sure enough, Nikolai got himself eaten by monsters in the monster-infested woods. But hey, he's a ghost now, and he's a heck of a lot more lucid. He thanks you for reuniting him with his wife in death.
The two ghosts ask if there's any way they can repay you. Your only choice is to ask for Nikolai's hat, to which he replies, "Sure, bro. It's not like I need it anymore."
What did Nikolai lose except his sorry existence of wandering around in circles, asking about Anna all day, every day? What less did he gain than his mind, wife, and continuance of existence as a ghost? Seems like a pretty happy ending and successful resolution of a sidequest, all told, even if the hat reward happens to go to something completely unrelated.
That's what true heroes do. They feed old guys to monsters and take their hats.

Posted 10 years agoAs you know, I'm a gaming dragon. I play all sorts of genres, with the exception of Metroidvanias and Action-Adventures like Zelda. I always get stuck and can never figure out where to go next in those. A lot. But anyway, as you may be able to tell from my Evolve videos that have gotten zero comments on this site from anyone who's not
kartonis, I'm an FPS fan.
Well, I have a confession to make.
When I was a wee and foolish hatchie, I once tried to use an aimbot in online Counter-Strike.
I couldn't get the darned thing to even work right.
And I never tried aimbotting again.

Evolve music video (the second one) -- done!

I would type lots more stuff, but I don't think anyone reads it anyway.

And the winner is ...
Posted 10 years agoSong 6!
With the vote tied at 0 apiece for each song selection, it came down to a random dice roll between the top contenders, and Song 6 came out the winner.
I'm gonna be playing Evolve and recording footage for a while longer yet, to make sure I have the best clips possible, but stay tuned. This video is gonna be awesome.

Another Evolve video in the making!
Posted 10 years agoAlright, I know just like all of you care about this, since you all cared about this last time, but since they released Arena mode for Evolve yesterday, I'm gonna make another video of monster (and a little bit of hunter) ownage.
Now is your chance to suggest music choices! It's gotta be cool and upbeat and epic and about fighting or something. Or it could be instrumental. Also maybe around 4 minutes would be good, but I could maybe edit down something longer.
Current candidates:
Stratovarius - Stand My Ground
Primal Fear - Never Pray For Justice
Sonata Arctica (cover) - Die With Your Boots On
DragonForce - Chemical Interference
Extreme Paintbrawl - Song 6 "You're now one step closer to making the world's worst AMV."

Posted 10 years agoIf you're having trouble sleeping at bedtime, here's a little tip for you.
Don't count sheep. Count dracobugs!
Dracobugs are naturally swarmy and love to collect into large groups. You're doing them a big favor by counting an increasingly large number of dracobugs in one place. And you're doing yourself a big favor by making the local swarm a friend and not an enemy.
All you have to do is say:
One dracobug.
Two dracobugs.
Three dracobugs.
Four dracobugs.
Five dracobugs.
Six dracobugs.
...and so on. By around twenty-something, you'll be surrounded by so many dracobugs that you'll practically be part of the swarm, yourself. Eventually literally, too, one way or another.

Deep Thoughts With KD
Posted 10 years agoIn therianthropy stories where the 'thrope in question has involuntary nighttime transformations, how come they're never sleepy at night?
Usually, we're talking about people who have ordinary active daytime lives, like say, Harry Potter's Professor Lupin, who is teaching classes by day, and gets hisoversized shaved rat wolf on by night.
So when the sun's going down and they're about the hit the ol' bedstack, then it seems more like they should go into wolf mode, and then curl up for the sleepy-times.
It would sure cut down on those nighttime prowls where they end up devouring some poor random human or other animal.

I just had the weirdest dream
Posted 10 years agoHeh heh, this is crazy I know, but I dreamed I was some kind of... bug monster? Like, six legs, antennae, the whole shebang?
Well... I'm not a bug monster. Still 100% dragon over here.
Hey, can anyone just verify something for me, and be honest. What's today's date? My computer's clock and the Internet say it's April 2015. Like, it's some kind of meta joke? It was April Fool's yesterday (supposedly), and someone out there is keeping the joke going a little too long?
It's October 2014, isn't it? I mean, I really shouldn't need to ask. Just gotta manually set all the clocks over here back to their proper time. Kind of annoying though.
