Sorry for lack of art, I've been putting a lot of effort into our upcoming D&D Zine!
It's not quite ready for preorders, but it's getting there! I'm very excited for it! xD

After I finish my remaining commissions, I plan to dedicate my time to working on my Kalira & Liao comic.

I am making a family tree for a character of mine and I need about 20 random names.
I lost my "baby name" book that I used to love, and I'm too lazy to look online... XD

My papa diagnosed my computer.

So... he's going to bring it home in his suitcase, fix it up there, then mail it back here.

But we did buy a new wireless router! Fast internet again! Yay!

Of course my mother is playing tourist and dragging me all over Japan over the course of 2 weeks so...

Mother, Nikko is more than 2 hours away by train. Why won't you believe me?
Yes, I know what the tour book says. But those directions are from Tokyo station.
No, that was Yokohama we went to on Thursday.
No, it was not Wednesday. It was Thursday. You time traveled.
No, that's the shinkansen. It costs hundreds of dollars.
Yes, it's a JR line but we have to switch lines in Tokyo.
NO, THAT WAS YOKOHAMA UUUUUUUUGGHHHHHFFFFFFFFFFF

Every nerd ever has had dreams of visiting Japan.
Well the old saying is true. "Great place to visit. Wouldn't want to live there."

For anyone who doesn't know, I'm living here because my husband is in the military.
We live on a tiny base; an island of "America" in a sea of Japanese.
Japan is great and all but most days I just yearn for a walmart or a 7-11...

There are minor inconveniences I have to deal with every day,
but most I can shrug off and chalk up to the situation.

"Oh, the hot dogs I bought five seconds ago actually expired last week and
the staff just didn't notice and I can't get a refund on food. Oh well..."

"Oh it's 11PM and I have a fever and am puking my guts out but the mini mart closed an hour ago and
I can't get any medicine and also base medical is closed on the weekends. Oh well."

"Oh the family center only has activities for children or single sailors and I need someone to talk to and...
what? No I don't want to be a volunteer coach. What? No I don't want to volunteer at your church.
What? No I don't want to take college classes online. WHAT? No I am not lazy!
I just want to meet like minded people... Oh well..."

So yeah. Most of my days I spend alone. In my apartment.
I have met a few nice gal-friends and THANK GOD for them.

However...
Today at our weekly get together, one of the gals hit me with THIS bullshit:

She was shopping at the little shop on base. She was probably buying some hipster type clothes because that's the kind of lady she is. She has piercings and tattoos and is pretty much one of the most awesome ladies I have ever met.

Anyway, a woman she had NEVER met before just starts scolding my awesome lady in the middle of the store over her choice of clothing. Telling her NOT to buy them because it will make her look worse than she already does. And then this obnoxious stranger calls her a godless heathen.

Well, needless to say, a fight breaks out. A verbal fight, mind you, nothing physical. It ends when the stranger announces that her husband is a high ranking officer and demands to know my friend's name. My gal gives it willingly and they go their separate ways.

The end, right? No. Not the end. My friend had to go to a discipline hearing because this bitch told her high ranking husband about the situation.

Well why didn't she go to the military police to defend herself? Or to the military lawyers? Or to the military chaplains? People who could help her explain her side of the story? Well guess who were the chairmen of the disciplinary board? All of the above.

So she is found instantly guilty. Except this isn't a criminal court, it's a military matter. So, she never got to explain her side of the story. She never got legal council. She never even got to face her accuser.

Now, all this started because she spoke up for herself, which last time I checked, was an american right. Oh wait. Right to a fair trial? Right to face your accuser? These sound familiar-- OH I REMEMBER. Those are all american rights as well.

At this point, I am ENRAGED. My gal friend, who is awesome as fuck, is completely calm and takes life as it comes. She appreciated that I was upset for her but she told me not to let it stop me from being me.

I could have left it at that. If they had given her a slap on the wrist and a warning and threatened her, I could have let it go.

But it gets worse.

After being "found guilty", all of her base privileges have been revoked for 6 months. She can no longer shop at any of the stores owned by the base, including our grocery store. She can no longer eat at any of the restaurants owned by the base, which is everything except the McDonalds. She can no longer use any of the recreational facilities owned by the base.

And since she isn't even allowed to set foot in these places, she certainly can't work at any of them. She was fired from her job at the video rental store. On top of it all, she has to do 25 hours community service.

When her husband leaves for the boat in a few weeks, she will have to buy food in a japanese grocery store, where it impossible to buy things considered staples for american cooking. She will be completely cut off from the last little island of "america" that all the spouses out here cling to for sanity. And on top of that she will be a slave to the family center, most likely working with the children of the people who sentenced her to all this.

This... is FUCK. Just. FUCK.
As she told me all this, I physically crawled over the table to hug her.

Apparently, the SOFA agreement that allows us to live overseas with our husbands also sells our souls to the military. This can happen to any dependant, a wife, a child... There doesn't even need to be any punishment involved. The officers can walk up to you on the sidewalk one day and declare that all your "privileges" have been revoked.

This is just scary. It is hard enough to live in a foreign country, to not see your spouse for up to a year at a time.
But the fighting men and women who put their lives on the line for uncle sam have been promised that at the very least, their loved ones back home are being taken care of and treated like the american citizens we are.

So... tl;dr

I hate japan. I am lonely.
I can't really rely on art as an outlet since my computer's still broken.

I don't feel safe living here and I am afraid of everybody.
The people I'm supposed to trust can easily betray me and any person on the street could ruin my husband's career with a word.
