Commissions!!!
Posted 17 years agoThat's right folks! You read right! Commissions are open and I'm running a special! Full color/full body digital commissions are only $25, full color busts are only $20! Sketches are $10 for a bust $15 for a full body. Additional characters are only $5 extra (limit 4+ original).
Something for every price range!
Need a V-day picture for your furry buddies?
Someone special having a birthday?
Just want another great picture of your original character?
Just Note me!
That price list again:
$25 Full body/color digital
$20 Bust/color digital
$15 Full body sketch
$10 Bust sketch
$5 Additional character
Now why you ask might I be offering discounted commissions?
Glad you asked! In the recent economic downturn my hours at work have been trimmed. My boyfriend whom I live with has just gone from working four days a week/eight hours a day to not working at all (on-call... but not really) and financial aid will not cover all our expenses. (Did I mention we are both full time students?). In short: Life has taken a few bad turns and I need you, my community to help me out. Of course I would not dare ask for handouts... I know we are all affected by the state of the nation's finances, but for those of you who have a few dollars to spare.. why not help out a member of your community and get some artwork at the same time?!
Thank You!

Rest In Peace...
Posted 17 years agoDazed...
I am completely dazed. My Golden Retriever, Freedom, is 17 years old... so naturally, my parents and I have been talking about costs for cremation ( and god forbid... euthanasia) So I have been slowly gearing myself up to say goodbye to my best friend of 16 years.
BUT
Today's news from my parents came as a total shock to me. Our little Water Spaniel mutt, Dori, was found by my dad this afternoon, dead on their porch. I was very attached to this spunky, rolley-poley little dog, and the news is hitting me quite hard. I'm still kind of reeling and trying to build myself up enough to go to class tonight.
Edit: I've uploaded a memorial picture. Please feel free to leave a comment. It would be a great comfort to me.

Coca Cola: Killer Company
Posted 17 years ago1. Coca-cola has been associated with repressive, anti-worker policies in many foreign countries, including Brazil, Guatemala, Zimbabwe, the Phillipines, and, most recently, Colombia where paramilitaries have killed union leaders.
Union workers at Coke's bottling plants in Colombia continue to be kidnapped, tortured, and murdered by the local paramilitary with the knowledge, consent, and/or encouragement from plant management. Their families either suffer the same fate or live in hiding, fearing for their lives.
There are instances where the paramilitaries have shot a union leader at the front doors to his own workplace. Also where the paramilitaries have come into the plant and forced (upon pain of death) union members to resign from the union, using resignation forms prepared beforehand by the plant's manager.
Activity such as this has been going on for over a decade and it's time for it to stop!
2. Coca-Cola production in India overexploits ground water to the point that the local citizens have none for themselves to live on, and Coke plants return untreated pollutants that ruin what precious little water is left for locals or farmers to use.
In some places 15 million litres of ground water is extracted by Coca Cola every day free of cost, while the chemicals and effluents used for bottle washing are released without treatment; contaminating the ground water creating a water crisis for the Tribals, Dalits and the farmers. The worst part is: the police are giving protection to Coca-Cola and the people waging struggle, especially women and children, are behind the bars.
The World Social Forum that took place during January in India this year helped raise awareness, and continue the momentum for action & planning against Coca-Cola's harmful practices. Visit [link] for more information.
3. Coca-cola has had to fight charges of [racially] discriminatory practices.
In November 2000, the Coca-Cola Co. in Atlanta paid $192.5 million to settle a highly publicized class-action lawsuit involving about 2000 African-American employees who allege wide disparities in pay and promotion.
In May 2002 Coca-Cola agreed to pay $8.1 million to more than 2,000 female employees who were underpaid by the company. Forty-two million will be paid under an agreement the company struck with the U.S. Department of Labor and will go to 980 current and former employees in Coke's Atlanta-based corporate operations, mostly in professional-level jobs.
In May 2002 several Coca-Cola workers in Dallas claimed the company was re-packaging and selling nearly-expired soft drinks to minority neighborhoods at lower prices.
4. HFC in Coca-Cola's cooling devices are harmful to the environment. Even with the perfect opportunity to implement reasonable alternatives (2000 Olympic Games / "Green Games" in Sydney) Coke has failed todo so.
"With an estimated 16 million refrigeration units worldwide, Coca-Cola may be the worst commercial HFC polluter on the planet. Yet the company does have an alternative: Greenfreeze. Greenfreeze is a safe, tested coolant technology that uses no ozone-destroying or global-warming chemicals.
Sydney, Australia, won its Olympic bid in 1993 in part because the city promised something new: the world's first Green Games, a showcase of global environmental responsibility. A key element of the Sydney plan was a set of environmental guidelines that clearly state that all Olympic site refrigeration should be HFC-free. As a major Olympic sponsor, Coca-Cola is undermining the spirit of the Green Games. The company will have 1,700 Olympic site coolers that rely on HFC global-warming gases - and only 100 eco-friendly Greenfreeze coolers." (CokeSpotlight.org)
With its influence, Coke has the potential to be a world leader amongst the giants towards a environmentally friendly practices.
5. Coca-Cola aggressively markets to children nutritionally worthless and damaging products.
How many times have we seen or heard about schools or entire education boards penning deals with Coca-Cola to exclusively sell Coke products in school. There are often incentives or minimum sales to be made, placing importance on selling products for a company that cares for nothing but profit and less towards education the students. So much so that Maude Barlow of the Council of Canadians once heard a principal say on the announcements "I have 2 tickets to the basketball game after school, and the first student to bring me 5 empty Coke cans wins them!" Besides just doing business with an unethical corporation, turning to Coke for funding lets the government off the hook for doing its job of taking care of the schools. It will be a glorious day when schools get all the money they need, and the army has to hold a bake sale in order to buy a new bomber.
The Multinational Monitor named Coca-Cola as one of the "10 Worst Corporations of 2001" because the company "is aggressively marketing to children by featuring Harry Potter imagery on packages and in advertising for its carbonated (Coca-Cola, Minute Maid, and other brands) and noncarbonated (Hi-C, Minute Maid) soft drinks."
So what can we do about this?
Corporations are deemed legal "persons" under law, and if this were any other person or citizen committing these crimes they would have been convicted many times over. Yet Cola-Cola is still free to roam and profit massively. Our governments seem quite content with letting this corporation parade around the earth destroying, killing, and polluting; but we are not. Coca-Cola is one of the largest corporations in the world, how can any one of us make it act responsively? This is where the beauty of teamwork, solidarity, and international community come into play. There's only one of me, but there's a million of us; and together we must, overcome this multinational corporation's ways and our apathetic media & governments, for the good of our children, fellow humans, and our earth.
This seems like a very daunting task, and no, it's not easy. Now, you don't have to a full-time anti-Coke activist. In fact, don't be just "anti-Coke"; be pro-human rights, be pro-environmental security, be pro-educational freedom. It doesn't have to consume all your time; we don't need 80,000 Martin Luther King Jr's raging against Coke, but we do need thousands that are willing to do their part. Think globally and act locally. Possibilities include a personal boycott against all Coke products (brand listing can be found on Coke's website), educating friends and family about this decision and encouraging it, getting Coke off your campus or out of your school, culture jamming, monetary support to organizations that are like-minded, participating in protests or direct action, writing letters to the "editor", raising awareness, etc. etc. If you find enough like-minded people on your campus or school. Every person, group, campus and community that is committed to showing Coca-Cola that it MUST be a responsible global citizen helps in this campaign for justice, democracy and environmental sustainability.
You can search for facts all over the net. I can´t telly ou what to do but i can chose what to do and i wont buy a coke ever again in my life, not like i actually bought a lot, but htere was a time when i was sick with allergies and stomach aches that i used to drink a lot of coca cola each day. No one put a gun on my head, i chose to drink it but i have reason and i have intelligence enough to decide not to drink it anymore or any of it´s products.
Good luck making a choice.

Woot!
Posted 18 years agoWell... it's been a rough three months. My husband left me and it hasn't been a pretty divorce so far (but I'll spare you the details.)
Fortunately I've had this man in my life that has kept my head above water. We didn't start out with the intention of falling in love with eachother... of course I don't think anyone really ever does. I owe so much thanks to him. My silver lining.... my Mr. Hero.... and my Lover. He's made my life happy again and I'm so glad I found him.

I need some love
Posted 18 years agoMy husband is leaving me.... he doesn't even want to try to save our marriage because he doesn't love me. I'm dealing with it ok for the most part, but today is especially hard since he's on his way to the courthouse... and he doesn't even give me hugs anymore. I just need some love from my fellow furs. Being abandoned is rough.
In Need of commissions (availible on furbid)
Posted 19 years agoSome of you may recall having read one of my previous journal entries asking for help > http://keluswulf.deviantart.com/journal/8922559/ . Well folks.. Now is the time to help... I received no commissions ....nothing. I need help now... more than ever. Bills are stacking up, my husband has taken an hour cut at his job, and I have only worked one day out of 3 weeks at my job. I'm going to be putting in applications tomorrow to try and get a second and third job....but I NEED COMMISSIONS.. if you made an offer... I need to call that one in now. This is my desperate plea for help to my art community.. I know not people dont always have alot of money to spare but I am seriously desperate... Just think of how helpful it will be if everyone on my watch list did something as small as donating $5... or commissioning a badge! Come on guys.. I need you now. I really do.

Save Alaska's Wolves...Sign this petition!!!
Posted 19 years agoI just took action to end the brutal slaughter of Alaska's wolves through aerial gunning at http://action.defenders.org/savewolvesrgtmed, and I hope you'll join me.
More than 150 wolves have already been shot dead under the state's brutal aerial gunning program so far this year. The Alaska Board of Game allows marksmen shoot wolves from aircraft, or use low-flying airplanes to chase the wolves, run the helpless creatures to exhaustion, then gun them down at point-blank range once they're too tired to run any further.
So far, the Bush administration has refused to use its power to stop the slaughter of these magnificent animals.
We must stop the slaughter of Alaska's wolves. Help me protect these magnificent creatures by clicking the link below to send a free message to President Bush and Interior Secretary Kempthorne urging them to enforce the Federal Airborne Hunting Act before it's too late for Alaska's wolves.
