Midwest FurFest
General | Posted 11 years agoWho will I be seeing there?!
Not dealing this year, this is a purely social event for once--pretty weird on my end! At any rate, I have no solid plans at this moment, beyond running around seeing and doing as much as I can on as little sleep as possible.
It will be sweet :D

TF2 Portraits Shipping Tomorrow!
General | Posted 11 years agoJust a quick post for those of you who bought TF2/watercolor portraits from me; they will be departing my abode tomorrow, scurrying through the mail tubes over the next several days, and arriving at your domiciles for your viewing pleasure!
I will also be mailing the few straggling Store orders tomorrow, as well.
---
I'll make a more formal announcement about this soon, but I also wanted to mention that I'll be changing how I sell my shirts and merch. Instead of having the store constantly open, I'm going to shift to several apparel and art sales throughout the year, and keep the store closed/offline between those sales. I have very little stock left after my September Mega Sale, so keeping my store open all the time does not make as much sense as it did when I was sitting on 500+ shirts and five designs.
My hope is that this will make inventory and shipping management a little easier on my end, since I can deal with a slew of orders over the course of a week more easily than I can a steady trickle. Additionally, I'm changing how/what I sell because I'm shifting my focus in 2015 to comic work. I will still produce a design or two next year, of course, just not at the same volume or frequency as in the past.
Anyway! If you have any particular thoughts on this, or suggestions, I am all ears!

Constant Submission Timeouts Affecting Watch Lists?
General | Posted 11 years agoSooo.. while I hesitate a bit to bring up anything related to the robustness of FA's code, after wondering this for several weeks/a month and a bit, and seeing other starting to ask..
Is it possible that submission notifications are not getting populated to all followers' submission pages? Every single time I upload, the site times out, and I have noticed that when the upload page times out within a few seconds, that picture gets a tiny fraction of the amount of views/comments I typically get, on average. The longer it takes until the page times out, the more views that picture gets.
I've noticed that this applies pretty consistently across the board, regardless of the level of finish (or explicitness) of the picture in question. I've also noticed that several other artists who typically get ridiculously high views have lately been getting sporadic, significantly lower views than a few months ago.
ANYWAY. I was just curious if other people had noticed this, and if this is actually a potential issue? Or did I forget to take off my tin-foil hat again? ;p

Fake Account Impersonating Me on deviantART
General | Posted 11 years agoEDIT
The offending account has been deactivated. Hopefully it stays that way, and does not become an issue in the future/elsewhere.
Hey guys!
Well, this is a first..
So, I found out today that someone has, for whatever bizarre reason, made an account on deviantART claiming to be me. They have gone so far as to use my FA icon, profile image, mood/status, and have linked to the various websites I post to. I'm not sure what their angle is, but:
This person is not me.
While I do have an ancient deviantART account, I have not posted there since 2008, and do not plan to begin posting on dA again any time soon.
If you happen to find this fake/impersonating account, please just ignore them.
At this point in time, I post to FurAffinity (Keovi), Tumblr (Keovi/KeoviArt.com), Twitter (@KeoviArt), very rarely at Weasyl (Keovi) and my website, kendavi.com, and basically never at InkBunny/SoFurry (Keovi).
If you have any questions about whether or not a particular account is mine, ask here! Or email! (keovi@kendavi.com)

Let's Talk BRUSH PENS!
General | Posted 11 years agoI wrote this as a reply to a few inking inquiries I got a few weeks ago, and thought it might be useful to share more broadly, since I get a lot of questions about my inking. So! Here you go! Please feel free to ask question OR suggest other brushes for us to try. I could talk about this stuff all day, and am always keen to find the Next Best Thing :)
My preferred inking-apparatus is a Winsor & Newton Series 7 Kolinsky sable brush, size varying based on the project (anywhere from #1-#6). These are getting harder and harder to find in the US, unfortunately, so grab one if you find it!
However.. it is not always convenient to carry around a nonreplacable brush and inkwell.. so I use brush pens quite a bit, too! I'm just very picky, because I like ones that replicate as closely as possible the feel of inking with a brush.
So, are you ready? Here we go.
Ranked in order of my favorite, in orders of magnitude (and coincidently, also ranked in order of price):
1] I am a BIG fan of the Kuretake #40 and #50 (only difference is barrel finish and price). It's a refillable brush pen that uses sable hairs, so it has wonderful spring that is the closest I have found to a brush (and close enough that I will often use it instead, just out of convenience/portability). The sable brush head is also replaceable, and is such a dream that I do most of my sketching with this pen, too.
Replace the stock ink cartridge (which is neither particularly dark, nor waterproof) with a Platinum fountain pen converter, which will look like this once installed.
2] The Kuretake #13 is also an excellent choice, and about $20 kinder to your wallet. It uses synthetic fibers, but is otherwise quite similar to the #s 40 and 50. (It also conveniently comes in one of my favorite colors, a delicious red.)
3] The Pentel Pocket Brush pen that others here have linked is a good choice. Synthetic, good spring, refillable (and you can use a converter to supply ink of your choosing), durable, and cheap to replace if it gets lost. I find that it is not as good for fine lines as the Kuretakes, however. It is slightly better for very thick lines, as a result.
Honorable Mentions: I don't use any other brush pens except those, because I am ultra super duper picky, and hate the feel of felt/anything other than hair-like fibers. But, I specifically value a pen that feels as close to a brush as possible, because brush inking is my most preferred method. You might have different preferences! Felt brush pens are way cheaper, but are not refillable, and often fray beyond usefulness well before they run out of ink. They also do not have the same degree of spring as hair/like fibers, and do not offer the same amount of line variation (in either direction), and are different to control when making particular curves/turns.
So far as buying them, JetPens isn't always the cheapest, but they are fast, have great service, and an excellent selection. You can easily find the Pentel in local art stores/Michael's/etc. The Kuretakes might be available at Japanese stationary stores, but your best bet is buying them online.
Hope this is helpful to someone! NOW, tell me about what YOU use!

AdultTumblr + Free Reference Lineart Update
General | Posted 11 years agoSweeeet, you guys gave me so many excellent species suggestions! I won't be able to do them all, and I am not sure how many I'll end up doing. BUT. I suspect I will hit at least three from your list :)
Cleaning up the first one, a mustelid, right now, and will be posting it tonight or early tomorrow, so stay tuned!
I also broke down and made an adult Tumblr, since people were reposting my NSFW work there, anyway. Find it here!

What Species Should I Draw for FREE Reference Lineart?
General | Posted 11 years agoSo you see, it is like this. I really like inking things. I do not always have time to color these things, sadly.
You guys have tons of cool characters, and probably like having reference sheets for them, and hey--! Who doesn't like getting something for free once in a while?
I PROPOSE. That I shall draw a few front/back lineart reference sheets of several species, that you fuzzy lot are welcome to color/modify as needed for your purposes. BUT, there are way too many cool animals I could draw, so in exchange for some free art, vote for your top species you want to see!
1.. 2.. 3.. GO!

Out of Town Through The Weekend
General | Posted 11 years agoJust a quick note that I'll be out of town tonight through this Sunday, and won't be reliably glued to the Internet. If I take a few days to reply to emails, etc, that is all that's going on, have no fears! :)
Back Home! Catching Up!
General | Posted 11 years agoMAN, last week was nothing short of amazing, both sales wise and socially. I sold out of all but 12 shirts (mostly XSmalls), and three designs are entirely sold out in all sizes. Yurii and Cinnamon were real troopers, helping me run the table smoothly and keeping my company. We met so many cool people at the table this year, thank you everyone who dropped by the chat! The Singapore contingency was an especially unexpected but pleasant encounter :p
After the con, Kenket and I impulsively invaded Seattle and Vancouver, BC, and raided ALL THE ART STORES and drank ALL the Pan Galactic Gargle Blasters, and I learned more about serial killers than I ever thought I'd need to know (and it turns out I do!). I was gifted a giant knife by a very friendly, very drunk dude in a dive bar, and later offered a modeling job outside of a coffee shop, but I turned it down to make more furry art instead. See guys, I'm 100% committed to you <3
ANYWAY, silliness aside. I have a LOT to catch up on, in regards to emails and shipping out store orders that came in while I was at the convention. So please, rest assured, I have not forgotten or overlooked anyone, and will be getting up to speed over the next few days.
Hope you all had kick-ass cons/home-cons yourselves! :)

Correction, Apology to ClawGFX
General | Posted 11 years agoHey guys.
I messed up, and should not have made any of my previous Tweets, journals, or Tumblr posts public before getting in touch with ClawGFX directly. That was entirely my failing. Just because private communication has not worked with other vendors in the past, I still should have tried it first in this situation, too. It sucks that artists are often taken advantage of, but that is no excuse for us to raise pitchforks.
I am terribly sorry to ClawGFX for the trouble I've caused, and would encourage you guys to spread a positive message, rather than a hateful one. He promptly removed the artwork when he found out, and is actually extremely proactive in doing his due diligence to ensure he sells artwork that he has purchased rights to. It is not his fault that an unscrupulous vendor sold him a vector pack that happened to include non-licensed art.
From talking with ClawGFX, he is an upstanding guy, and is being more than reasonable with me on clearing up this matter.
Again, this was my mistake for failing to go through private channels first, and naively assuming the furry SJW machine wouldn't roar to life if I just asked nicely for no one to contact ClawGFX.
I messed up, not ClawGFX, and he has fixed the situation to the best of his ability, and is helping me track down the real thieves. I would like to do the best I can to fix my error in this situation, and try to calm the furor that I should have known better than to cause.
So, please. Share this post as widely as you did my previous one, if not more widely.

No AC This Year :(
General | Posted 11 years agoHoooowdee!
As someone pointed out to me yesterday, I foolishly left AnthroCon on my list of cons I'll be at this year. Alas! I had a rather last-minute change of plans that will prevent me from attending this year. However, these changes are nothing but good things, and I will likely still attend RainFurrest in September.
For all of you going, have tons of fun! Perhaps I shall see you next year :)
