This is something I see FAR too often. A ref sheet doesn't have to be perfect but it has to show everything!

A fursuit is a MAJOR purchase. With that in mind, you don't want any of your markings to get lost in translation when your fursuit maker turns it into a tangible item.

The best fursuit refs are simple clear and to the point. You don't need any bells or whistles (Like shading, high lighting or brushy stroked markings)

Here are some examples of what a great ref sheets looks like!

I see extremely complicated characters ALL the time but never with a Slushie ref sheet. Some of the best character/suits are pretty darn simple so keep that in mind! It's how you bring the character to life that matters when getting a suit :3

What to avoid when getting/making a fursuit ref sheet:
-GRADIENTS (This is pretty much no man's land for me. I don't touch large gradient areas)
-Brushy stroke lines (Some times it's hard to tell if markings are meant to be jagged or if it's just the artist's style of coloring)
-TONS of tiny/itsy bitsy spots or markings. If it's a darker color on a lighter color of fur, then you may just be able to air brush it but if it's white spots on black fur, ALL of those need to be hand sewn which may not be in your budget.There are even some cases where they're just TOO tiny to be sewn at all.

I hope this helps guys. Be sure to put some good thought into your ref sheet before looking into getting a fursuit, it could make a huge difference :3

Hey peeps! So now that I have Zbrush at home, I was pondering offering a chibi YCH 3D model with the winner's character. Would you all be interested in something like that? I was thinking of starting the auction at $35, it would include the working file in Zbrush as well as a collage of the character from several angles and for an additional fee, I can post it to SketchFab so you can view it from any angle.

So I'm just exceptionally frustrated this weekend. I've been doing a good bit of maintenance on my car the past few weeks but today just has me frustrated. I'll be stranded at home till Tuesday until places start opening again after this holiday weekend so I'm pretty much stranded until I can get my tire fixed. Not only that, I scheduled a pick up for today from USPS and no one came to pick it up. I'm just a little fed up with everything at the moment so I'll just be working here silently. I may post a few WIPs to my twitter so just be mindful that I would really rather not reply to anything until I cool off. I try to be exceptionally nice but it's come to my attention that I have let my anger and temper get the best of me and I regret to say that I let it seep through before to unrelated situations so I just need some time to myself.

If so, are you still able to see the artist's ads or do you block all of them completely? The reason I ask is because I'd really like to buy some ad space but with the new ads in place, I'm not sure how many people would see it.

I block the ads myself but I do it with Ghostery so that I can still see the artist ads. The only ones I block are the stupid adsense ones.

Lets say you make a 'premade' fursuit or you've created a concept for one. (Who ever called them 'Designer suits' hit the nail on the head)

It's beautiful! You've worked so hard on it, you poured your heart into making an appealing character someone may want to buy.

Lets say, in this case, you've just made the concept for the suit and the work will follow so that it fits the buyer perfectly. Do you think you should be charging LESS for this character, this soon to be suit, because it's not the buyer's 'personal' character? You've even added a bunch of neat extras that don't come on your normal suits!

HELL NO.

Not only did you create the character, a service you're not charging for in the total, but it's incredibly complex. It's going to take weeks to sew and if the markings are small then you'll be punishing your fingers with plenty of blisters to get it done. I don't know about you but I literally put my own sweat and blood to make these suits (none of it gets on the suits, I SWEAR, but cuts and pricks are an every night occurrence).

Don't you DARE tell me I'm not worth my price. I've worked my DAMN TAIL OFF TO GET HERE. IT IS LITERALLY BRINGING ME TO FUCKING TEARS RIGHT NOW THE FUCKING STRUGGLES AND SACRIFICE AND SLEEPLESS NIGHTS IT TOOK TO BE WORTH SOMETHING.

To be worth your price is not an easy task and it's a constant fucking balancing act.

Fine, you may not think I'm worth your money but quite frankly, you're not worth my time, heart and soul. You don't deserve to own a piece of ME.

First off, I'd like to say thank you to everyone for understanding that I needed a little time to collect my thoughts. Between the start of school, car issues and a few other bumps in the road.

But let's cut to the chase!

I'm extremely sad to say it but my father, my partner in making suits (hence Otter N' Daughter), will no longer be working on suits with me.

He told me while we were working on my car that his eyes have been getting worse and worse. He's no longer able to do the work and so, we came to the mutual decision that I would need to find a new partner.

I can't express how much I'm going to miss working with him but his resignation really wasn't a surprise to me. I saw that he was having issues so I was picking up the slack but I just enjoyed working with him so much that it didn't bother me at all. Unfortunately though, this had to happen. It's been far too much stress and many of my commissioners have been forced to wait for their suits because I haven't had time to pick up his work load over my own.

Our relationship is strong as ever though so there is no bad blood at all and again, it was a mutual decision.

This story isn't all bad news!

Recently, I've gotten back in touch with a friend of mine from high school. We've been hanging out more and more lately and I've become more and more aware of his creative background and abilities. While he is not a furry, he is motivated to help me with my work and make some money on the side since his job suuuuuucks.

The exciting part is that I've tested his skills in fursuit making applications and I'm happy to say that he is a natural at the tasks that I've given him.

He won't have the same tasks as my dad but I have him doing all of the grunt work that I REALLY don't like doing :'D

This includes:
Foam base build up (I am still in charge of sculpting and finishing)
Pattern transfer to fur (Bodies, hand paws, tails, feet. Not heads)
Cutting fur
Minor hand sewing
DTD taping and secondary trashbag dummy making

What this will do is get rid of my grunt work and make me much more efficient. The best part is he has far fewer responsibilities, meaning he will be able to work MUCH more, and I'll be able to have him over to complete his work in a much more reasonable time.

What does this mean for Commissioners?
It means I'll be able to get work done quicker! For the time being though, he is still in training so there will be a bit of a lull in work until I can get him up to speed so hang tight! All in all, this change in events is good for everyone. I get an assistant to make my work more stream line, my dad can focus on his career and my assistant can get some money from a not so shitty job :D

In other news, my car is fixed (It was a nightmare that I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy), School has become reasonable (I'm still double booked for two 9am-noon classes but I've found a good middle ground. I've decided to only take 2 classes this quarter to quell the hardship), and my AC in my car is fixed! (My dad and I had to let out all the coolant when fixing the water pump but I found a good deal to get the line vacuumed and recharged)

So all in all guys, it's certainly looking up.

I still have one more conundrum though; I can't call our work 'Otter N' Daughter' anymore. Do you all have any suggestions? I really loved that name but if I'm not working with my dad, it's just a little weird for me :'(

(Note, I hate 'fur' puns and I don't want to add 'studios' or 'creations' to the name. it's super over used :P)

I'm having some terrible car problems that couldn't have popped up at a more horrible time. I just started school back on the 14th and have already missed some classes due to these car problems. My dad and I spent ALL DAY working on this damn water pump and it's still only half way done I think. Hopefully it will be fixed tomorrow but for this weekend, I will be away from the computer.

I need a wee bit of space to collect myself from this ever frustrating situation, catch up on school work and get these commissions done and out by next week.

What does this mean? This means I won't be answering emails till next week and will be pretty much "AFK" (Away from keyboard) until next week when I can get my life back to it's nice, mellow flow. It's just a little too hectic for me around here and I feel like I'm about to rip my hair out.

I will still be working during this time but I won't be in contact. Please understand that my mental state is pretty haphazard at the moment which is the only reason I need to do this. This doesn't happen to me often. I'm actually pretty solid most of the time but with school getting so close to it's end, it's getting a lot tougher to keep a straight head. I'd rather not go into all the ways that this quarter is trying too screw but just know that it's fucking stupid and I'm getting to the point to where I'm about to just say "Fuck it"

I don't want to get to this point so until next week, stay in better spirits than me!

Barton Town looks like it's clinging to life by a thread (GET IT?!) and the chatter box has only grown in it's festering pools of mediocrity since II was last active over there. Not to mention the ridiculous inflation of all the items. At the peak of my time on Gaia, I was questing for a ninja headband. It was worth 1.6 mil. I think my entire avatar by the time I quit going there was worth about 2.3 mil? Now the net worth of my account is 560 BILLION...

Jeeze, It's crazy how time flies. It's kinda nice to revisit from time to time though for nostalgic reasons.

After we moved into our new apartment this past June, it's been a little rocky here and there but all in all, life has been more enjoyable than it was last year. Last year was fraught with uncertainty, anxiety, poverty and struggle. It's thanks to a solid support group that I've made it this far without beating my head into a wall @-@

But a huge part of my success is due to all of your support and kind words. You all are who give me the motivation to continue. You all have given me the ability to focus on school and sell my work to keep me alive! Happy New Year!

All too often people seem to have issue with pronouncing "Keryu" When they meet me. I know, it's tough sometimes with a Japanese spelling. A lot of times they'll say Ker-yu. I don't get mad, it just sounds really weird to me but I don't like correcting people cause it's not polite in my opinion but knowing before hand would make me really happy <3

So here it is! This is how I've always pronounced it: Kay-Ree-You

Think of it like this. Here is how the K kanji (in Hiragana) are in their alphabet (Per say): Ka Ki Ku Ke Ko

These are pronounced like so (In order): Kah Kee Koo Kay Koh

So while you are (kinda) pronouncing it correctly if it were an English name, it is a Name derived from Japanese meaning "Fur Dragon" Which looks like this: 毛竜 so it is pronounced in an English phonetic of the Japanese sounds that makeup the name~

I hope this isn't too confusing! All you really should get out of this is how to pronounce "Keryu" XDDD

So as the title implies, I'm in need of someone who is versed well in Web Design and can make custom graphics. Unfortunately, I just don't have the time between school and commissions to sit down and make all of the graphics for a nice, simple parallax scrolling website.

I'm not looking for anything over the top. It just needs to be clean, cute, simple and understandable!

It needs to be said that I am VERY PICKY. If you don't do well with another artist's Critique then I highly suggest you do not apply. I'm an animation student and have a very strong idea of what I'm looking for which is very specific. You can't have your feelings hurt when I go in and make my own changes ^^;

So What am I offering in return? A custom fursuit head. Even if you don't want a fursuit, I wouldn't feel remorse at all if you turned around and sold it to get cash for your services, that's completely ok! There are some restrictions. It can't be overly complex, it will have toony eyes and must be made up of colors that I have readily on hand. Small accents that need to be ordered are fine~

So I've been tossing the idea around and actually have 2 ideas in the works. Would anyone be interested? They would be full suits and integrated into our commissions with fairly complex designs for a reasonable price. One will be skeletal in design and the other has a 420 motif.
