30 Day meme: Days 12-18
Posted 14 years agoDay 12: A song from a band you hate-
The Beatles- 'Help'
I swear this is going to get all the Beatlebutts out to lynch me :P
Day 13: A song that is a guilty pleasure-
My Little Pony (Rarity)- 'Art of the dress'
In fact, this goes for all of the new MLP songs. They remind me of the old days when Disney included songs as main parts of their animated films, but yeah, I've been bitten by the MLP bug :P
Day 14: A song that no one would expect you to love-
because I'm a sappy romantic at heart and this makes me tear up. *weeps because of the song's beauty*
Celine Dion- 'My Heart Will Go On'
Day 15: A song that describes you-
I hate this question, as so many songs describe some aspect of me, so here you go :P
My Little Pony (Pinkie Pie)- 'Cupcakes song'
Day 16: A song that you used to love but now hate-
Ugh, I hate it when my stepbrother would overplay songs that I liked even marginally
50 Cent- 'In Da Club'
Day 17: A song that you hear often on the radio-
Slipknot- 'Snuff'
Day 18: A song that you wish you heard on the radio-
Combichrist- 'All Pain is Gone'
This would be a goddamn awesome song to hear over the radio.

Day 2- Your Least Favorite Song
Aqua- 'Barbie Girl'
Day 3- A Song that makes you happy

Note: This one's a complicated choice... the message is positive and the music is beautiful, yet I can't help but tear up with that odd sad, yet not sad, emotion whenever I hear it.

RIP Brian Jacques
Posted 14 years agoToday is a sad day for me. I just learned that the author of the Redwalls series of books died a couple days ago. Brian Jacques was the one who both made me interested in the idea of anthropomorphic animals and the notion of writing stories that contain them as characters. Though the stories have not been difficult reads for me in years, I still enjoy reading them and its a little bit of a downer that he's passed away. I can't say I wasn't expecting it, but it's still a disappointing discovery. At least for me, it's as saddening as it was when I learned George Carlen died.

What Have We Learned?
Posted 15 years agoDon't put personal information on the internet through systems like private messaging systems. And to all the people deleting their notes: I do hope you realize that these notes are most likely still backed up in the servers, they're just behind the line of visibility now.
I have my own opinion on the issues and honestly I know nobody really cares what it is based off of my own lack of caring for others' opinions on the whole topic. It's just drama, and I honestly don't care for it.

Joining a Fraternity
Posted 15 years agoYup, after some research into the fraternity, I've decided to pledge for one. The Sigma Phi Betas are a gay/bi fraternity that is generally known on campus as a geek fraternity whose brothers are reputable for having high GPAs (3.0 and above). Yesterday I had my interview and I passed so I'm now officially a pledge!
This a great opportunity for me to network and have connections throughout the nation. It may come in handy in terms of finding a job outside of the state (there's a few states in the US I have my eye, particularly the northeastern ones). Sooo yeah, I'll be suuuuper busy with pledging for 6 weeks and 6 classes. But it's a challenge and though I may stress over it, I do love a good challenge.

Posted 15 years agoNOTE: IF YOU HAVE TROUBLE UNDERSTANDING SATIRE, THIS IS NOT A BAND FOR YOU.
The band that has left a large and both famous and infamous legacy (the infamy mostly due to misinterpretation of the band's purpose due to their satirical aesthetics), including influencing bands such as Rammstein, is one that I haven't been able to get into until as recently as a year ago. Their music is simple on an instrumental level, but their messages are what draws me to them most. Plus, I love satire and that's what this band is all about. :P Personally, I think their live performances are better than the studio recordings, so here's a few samples:

Project from the S.U.N.
Posted 15 years agoThere's one genre that I don't readily say I enjoy and that's Psychedelic Trance (Psytrance for short). Now granted, I'm not balls to the wall a hardcore fan of it. Honestly I'm very picky about it. Mostly though, I enjoy the bands that blend Psytrance and metal. My first taste of this dynamic mix was with Infected Mushroom. But recently I've come to find out about these guys:
Now SUN Project is way more straight-laced on the Psytrance side of things than IM, but in many ways they pull off the mix of shredding guitars and Psytrance better than IM. Part of it may be because they were a rock band before converting to Psytrance, but either way their guitars fit in way better in the overall mix of their tracks. Now, I have only ever bought one Psytrance album (Infected Mushroom's "Vicious Delicious") and that's because I honestly don't feel most Psytrance is worth the money. However, I think I can safely say I'll be picking up a few of SUN Project's albums. They totally top Infected Mushroom in the guitars department. <3
Now SUN Project is way more straight-laced on the Psytrance side of things than IM, but in many ways they pull off the mix of shredding guitars and Psytrance better than IM. You Know You're from Phoenix when...
Posted 15 years agoYou’ve signed so many petitions to recall governors you can’t remember the name of the incumbent.
You notice your car overheating before you drive it.
You no longer associate bridges or rivers with water.
You know a swamp cooler is not a happy hour drink.
You can hear the weather forecast of 115 degrees without flinching.
You can be in the snow, then drive for an hour…and it will be over 100 degrees.
You discover, in July it only takes two fingers to drive your car, because your steering wheel is so hot.
You can make sun tea instantly.
You run your a/c in the middle of winter so you can use your fireplace.
The best parking is determined by shade…..not distance.
You realize that “Valley Fever” isn’t a disco dance.
Hotter water comes from the cold water tap than the hot one.
It’s noon in July, kids are on summer vacation and yet all the streets are totally empty of both cars and people.
You actually burn your hand opening the car door.
Sunscreen is sold year round, kept right at the checkout counter.
You put on fresh sunscreen just to go check the mail box.
Some fools will market mini-misters for joggers and some other fools will actually buy them. Worse…..some fools actually try to jog.
You know hot air balloons can’t rise because the air temperature is hotter than the air inside the balloon.
No one would dream of putting vinyl inside a car.
You see two trees fighting over a dog.
You can say “Hohokam” and people don’t think you’re laughing funny
You see more irrigation water on the street than there is in the Salt River
You have to go to a fake beach for some fake waves
You can pronounce”Saguaro”, “Tempe”, “San Xavier”, “Canyon de Chelly”, “Mogollon Rim”, and “Cholla”
You can understand the reason for a town named “Why”
You can fry an egg on the hood of a car IN THE MORNING!
You hear people say “but it’s a DRY heat!”
You buy salsa by the gallon.
Your Christmas decorations include sand and paper bags.
You think a red light is merely a suggestion.
All of your out-of-state friends start to visit after October but clear out come the end of April.
You think someone driving wearing oven mitts is clever.
Most of the restaurants in town have the first name “El” or “Los.”
You think 60 tons of crushed red rock makes a beautiful yard.
Your house is made of stucco and has a red clay tile roof.
Vehicles with open windows have the right-of-way in the summer.
Most homes have more firearms than people.
Kids will ask, “What’s a mosquito?”
People who have black cars or black upholstery in their car are automatically assumed to be from out of-state or nuts.
You know better than to get into a car with leather seats if you’re wearing shorts.
If you haven’t worked for Motorola at some time, you must be a newcomer.
You can finish a Big Gulp in 10 minutes and go back for seconds.
You actually get these jokes and pass them on to other friends from Arizona.
Lol, this was fun.

I Looooove sexy Basslines
Posted 15 years agoMuch like the uber sexy bassline hook that kicks in at 22 seconds in this song:
I got the album it's from "Urban Audio Warfare" a few days ago and the bassline alone makes this song my favorite. Plus, the vocals are pretty good in that in that they're not heavily distorted and sound more like they've had a layer of sandpaper added for texture. This is definitely a good piece of modern EBM ('Electronic Body Music' for you non-Industrial fans). <3

Emerging from Cryosleep
Posted 15 years agoThe best sleep I ever get is when I'm listening to Ambient music without any beat. for this, I play this station on my laptop next to my bedside table: http://www.bluemars.org/cryosleep.php
Today I woke to something I don't hear often: a sax playing over the soundscapes of the song (it was "Century Seasons" by Jonn Serrie). What a wonderful thing to wake up to.
It's just so calming to me to be listening to calm and beautiful soundscapes that take hold of my mind and seems to help me achieve a deeper sleep. That being said, i try not to play it when I have work early in the morning as I tend to oversleep whenever I have it playing. Still, when that is not the case, Ambient music from that Blue Mars station makes the perfect lullaby.

Be My Faetish (not a sexual journal)
Posted 15 years agoYeah... on a bit of a Leaether Strip (yup, it's spelled right) kick. ^_^; I like his stuff, both old and new, whether it's something more danceable and fun:
Emotional and heartfelt:
or dark:
Plus he's the Industrial scene's premier gay man. How can you say no to that? :-P

It's Raining
Posted 15 years agofor the first time in a long time during the day. To celebrate I'll be playing the Silent Hill 2 and 3 OSTs. They make for great listening as they tend, for the most part, to give sound to the beautiful gray monotony of a rainy afternoon. :)
This does make me curious what kind of music people listen to for different types of weather though.

Song of the Day by Lost Area
Posted 15 years agoWow, so I just found out about these guys. I've heard a few songs from their new album "Memoria" and they're really good at combining modern EBM with Trance. The songs I've heard have a great combination of atmosphere, emotion, the rhythm of EBM, and all the good stuff that comes with Trance. Personally, so far this one's my favorite (Listen at 720 for the best quality!):
Seriously, I'm sooo considering picking up this album (though I'm willing to wait for an international release as it's only currently been released in Europe) and I'm very picky with the music I buy!

New CombiChrist song!
Posted 15 years agoThanks to good old VampireFreaks: http://vampirefreaks.com/combichrist
I didn't like it very much at first in the first listen, but upon multiple listens I think this is an interesting step in the evolution of CC's song structure. This is the first single off of their upcoming album "Making Monsters".
"Never Surrender" LYRICS (yes, I took the time to get them down :P)
Self-medicating
Craving punishment
Blaming myself for a world on fire
No more shame
No more pain
No more... (arise from the ashes!)
I will suffer
I will burn
Let hate prevail
Enslave my soul
But I'll never surrender
Silent words from a bleeding mouth
Swallows pride with a swollen tongue
Everything is nothing
Life in a shallow grave
Too ashamed to feel joy
Life collecting dust
No more shame
No more pain
No more... (arise from the ashes!)
I will suffer
I will burn
Let hate prevail
Enslave my soul
But I'll never surrender
(Never surrender!)
Mental cancer hijacks your brain
Denying the reality you created for yourself
Arise from the ashes... (arise from the ashes!)
I will suffer
I will burn
Let hate prevail
Enslave my soul
But I'll never surrender
(Never surrender!)

Posted 15 years agoJust wanted to bump that depressing journal down a tad. Good news though: Eden Synthetic Corps' new album "Eight Thousand Square Feet" has landed in the COP International webstore and I ordered it just an hour ago! Can't wait to get my hands on that lovely digipak with it's comic book-styled artwork and of course, the lyrics. Since ESC's main website has been down of a couple months and they don't post much of anything on their Myspace account, the lyrics are a big thing that I want. Anywho, I also ordered their first album "Matte" because... well, I don't have it so why not? :P I ordered FGFC820's first album "Urban Audio Warfare" while I was at it. I have their second album "Law and Ordnance" and I love it so I figured I might as well pick up one of their earlier works. Personally, I prefer the less processed vocals of the lead vocalist from the second album, but I've never been deterred by distorted vocals like there are in the first album.
For a taste from FGFC820's second album:
And from the first album (Note that the patriotism implied by the title of the song is satirical in the context of the song):

A Little Down...
Posted 15 years agoGot news today at work that one of my coworkers lost her baby. The infant girl's been sick for the last month but apparently today she finally succumbed to illness. I've seen the little girl before when she was in good health and I knew her mother well. It's sad to hear that such a young life has come to end so prematurely. I can't even imagine what my coworker is going through right now.
Lunascape
Posted 15 years agoAnother band that I'm sad to have seen go. I've known that they were broken up for a couple years now, so it's not a surprise anymore. I've startled listening to their albums again though, and I'm missing them all over again. Such talent, artistry, and beauty... they were the band that got me into Trip-Hop in the first place when my musical tastes were branching out from Industrial music. It's a shame, really, that they decided to split shortly after their great last album "Innerside" was released. If you've never heard of them, here's a taste of a couple songs of theirs.
The one that got me interested in them:
and another great piece from them:

Brock Lesnar FTW!
Posted 15 years agoI'm not a fan of MMA for the same reason I don't like Boxing (watching two guys beat each other up? I might as well watch two of my friends go at it.), BUT I made an exception last night because I learned for the first time that former WWE Superstar Brock Lesnar was the UFC Heavyweight title. Now, when I first found out he went into MMA he had just won his first match by submission. I've been a fan of his since his WWE days, and I wanted to start keeping tabs on him again. Well, 4 wins and 1 loss later he went face to face with the vicious and brutal Shane Carwin last night and though it looked like he wouldn't survive the 1st round after a long flurry of brutal strikes to the head, he came out on top in the 2nd with a triangle choke for the submission! Now what's also crazy is that this was Carwin's first loss after 12 straight wins by KO in the first round (this was his first match to ever make it past the first round), a streak Lesnar broke with a submission! Truly an impressive feat worthy of the undisputed Heavyweight champion.
