Sitting in my Macroeconomics class...
Posted 15 years agoWhat. a. waste. of. time.
It's the third week and we're BARELY covering the law of demand. The first two weeks was filled with my instructor dancing around unrelated things. On top of that, I made the mistake of Microeconomics (more focused and detailed than Macro, it seems), so this stuff is all common knowledge for me. *sigh* I shouldn't have come. x.x

Losing Touch
Posted 16 years agoIn recent months, I have been losing touch with both myself and my dear friends. At first, I simply thought it was a creative slump. To those friends whom I've been losing touch with, I'm sorry. I've done things that I would not have meant to do in a normal state of mind. But it's coming to an end.
This slump I've been in is something that I have tried time and again to ignore and avoid my entire life. It's something that my mother suffers from and has suffered from since about my age. What I am speaking of is depression... now, I know you may be thinking that I'm just imagining it. But it was diagnosed to run in the family nearly a decade ago by a doctor who isn't some hack who just wants to push pills, and has been our family doctor since my parents were young teens. It seems I can't ignore it any longer, but the solution for me does not lie in medication.
I will NOT let it turn me into someone like my mother, who is nothing more than a husk of the woman that I knew in my childhood and early adolescence. It hurts to say that about her, but it's the simple truth. I won't let it destroy my friendships and my life like I have seen it do. To those I have spoken to lately, I internalize a lot of my issues and there are many that I keep only to myself. Only recently have I realized I need to get this off my chest now that I am nearing its resolution. To those I haven't spoken to as of late, I truly am sorry for being so absent when I promised I would be around more. But now, like a country after the second world war, I'm ready to rebuild. I should be getting back on IM's and in contact with all those I have been neglecting to contact within the next couple days.

Shedding
Posted 16 years agoLike a snake, I'm shedding the skin of my 2009 self. 2010 marks the year where I will work to rid myself of the lethargy that has been a plague upon me all last year. From this day forward, I promise myself that I will work to improve myself in body, and not only in mind. Though I am not ashamed of my body, I believe that its state influences the chemistry of my entire system, and improving that chemistry will positively influence various aspects of my life and personality. But...
Don't expect me to turn into some gym-going, steroid junkie. Only doing this until I'm back in shape and then I'll just maintain that. No hopes for a six pack here. :P

Music Meme
Posted 16 years agoSo, playlist on shuffle. Twenty songs. Talk about 'em.
Hah, this kind of shows how varied my collection is. I have some country hidden away, though it isn't featured here.
01. Project Pitchfork- "Existence v4.1"
This is the track that really introduced me to the idea of guitars meshing well with Industrial. I'm still not a huge fan of the band, but listening to this track gives me a feeling of nostalgia during my days of barely exploring Industrial music.
02. Hans Zimmer and James Newton Howard- "Introduce a Little Anarchy"
Haha, what can I say other than this song's an awesome piece of an equally awesome soundtrack to an amazing movie?
03. And One- "Blue Monday (Live)"
While And One's covers are great, even live, I still prefer the original. However, it's still an enjoyable track.
04. Aghast View- "Timeless (Tim Schuldt Mix)"
Honestly, I've never been a big fan of Aghast View's original tracks. However, the remixes such as this one are awesome. This one's nice and heavy and really drives the idea of heavy Industrial Metal. When I listen to it I find myself wanting to headbang and dance.
05. Creed- "To Whom It May Concern"
This is a track off of the soundtrack for "The Scorpion King". In good old Creed fashion, it's beautifully melodic in both its guitars and vocals. It encapsulates everything I loved about Creed's style.
06. Masami Ueda- "More Digging Here Bow-Wow"
This is from the game Okami. It's very humorous to listen to, and good if you're in the mood for something a little silly and fun.
07. God Module- "Entranced"
Man this an old God Mod track before one of the co-founders left the project. It has the old ambient while still being Dark Electro, sort of feel. It's one of the few I enjoy these days from their older stuff. However, it's refreshing to hear Jasyn Bangert's vocals in a bit of a softer sort of distortion than he uses these days.
08. Karl Wolf- Africa (Original Mix)
This is a song a buddy of mine gave me. Usually this isn't my preferred sort of music, but the message is good and it doesn't sound as craptastic as most of the music in its genre out there.
09. Mind.In.A.Box- "Lost Alone (Acoustic.Version)"
This is a free bonus download for those that buy the album. It's really really a departure from MIAB's typical sound, which isn't to say it's bad. In fact, it's pretty damn good. It features an acoustic guitar and clean vocals in a completely different sound structure. I think this was the precursor to what would be the song structures for their live performances.
10. T_Error 404- "Solaris (Nightmare Mix by Diversant 13)"
This is a track I recently came across on an album being distributed for free by the label. It's one hell of a Dark Electro track. The project is actually very good and can create some serious dance floor thrillers. It's a shame they don't get the publicity they deserve in the scene.
11. Mindless Self Indulgence- "Adios Amigos (Mono Mix)"
Much like the mix title says, this is a version of the track mainly in mono. It's still a pretty fun, silly track that you would expect from MSI, but it lacks the stereo punch of the original version.
12. Velvet Acid Christ- "Phucking Phreak"
Wow, an ooooold VAC track in all its low-fi glory. This was one of the first tracks that got me interested in VAC's older material prior to the Fun With Knives album. It has that warm, old analog feel as well as a genuine distortion effect over Bryan's voice. Even after listening to the 2009 remake, which is much cleaner and has superior production, I still enjoy this version just because of that nostalgia feeling of old gear and sampled guitars.
13. Fangs On Fur- "Fangs on Fur"
A pretty awesome Gothic Metal track off of a compilation titled Pagan Love Songs. While it is goth metal, it has a bit of a punk feel due to the female vocals in it and because of the energy it has. It's pretty enjoyable, I have to say.
14. Michigan- "Shine in Silver"
Michigan, the very underrated and overlooked Synth Rock band. This particular song is beautiful and truly melodic. Perfect if you have any qualms about love in your life. The vocals aren't amazing, but they're good for the style.
15. Suicide Commando- "Die Motherfucker Die"
haha, the latest single from the upcoming album "Implements of Hell" (due out early next year!). This is what I call a 'dance floor killer'. It's aggressive, furious, fast, and unrelenting. Typical Suicide Commando stuff that'll have you dancing away all that aggression you have.
16. Nightwish- "Cadence of Her Last Breath"
One my favorite tracks off of their latest album, Dark Passion Play, featuring their new vocalist. Unlike some of the tracks on the album, this puts her vocals to the best use possible and retains that Nightwish feel while framing the vocals in just the way to compliment them.
17. Infected Mushroom- "Release Me"
The very first IM track I ever heard, and also the first Psytrance track I ever heard. It got me interested in both the band AND the genre. Starts out nice, slow, and dark, with a sample from 'Independence Day" before delving right into the Psytrance portion. It's really a great introduction to Infected Mushroom as it also features Metal-styled guitars.
18. Das Ich- "Kindgott (Album Mix)"
There isn't much of Das Ich's material before the album "Cabaret" that I like, but this is one of the songs I do like. It's bizarre in it's instrumentation while still remaining somewhat danceable with the raw vocals Das Ich is known for. Much like the band's best material, it sounds like a warped journey the mind.
19. Toxic Coma- Anal Cockroach
Okay, this is VAC's purposely horrible, funny side project. Oddly enough, the music itself is okay, it's the samples that are simply terrible in that 'eww, gross' kind of way. Totally not a song to take seriously, plus in typical Toxic Coma style, it's time stamp is said to be over 28 minutes long, but it's nowhere close to it.
20. Fox Amoore- Of Light and Darkness MVMNT I (Jayli's Theme)
A beautiful example of the amazing classical work Fox Amoore can do. Seriously, check out his account here on FA! Next to the 3rd movement, this my favorite of the whole piece. Truly, it's stunning.

Okay, So Some Things Don't Work Out
Posted 16 years agoI got sucked into a pile of homework today, so I didn't get around to taking a pic of myself. But I promise that I will have one tomorrow! I'll take it after I wake up, looking all gross and sleepy-eyed... or not. :P
On another CRAZY note, I've been thanked in the liner notes of one of my favorite music artists' new album!
http://velvetacidchrist.com/
There's something really cool about seeing your name in the liner notes of a music album, regardless of it's global popularity. It reads like this:
"Donation thank you's:[insert 19 names]... Daniel Caceres... [insert 6 more names]... Thank all of you who donated! It really helped me get past a hard time. Again, thank you all from the bottom of my heart."
It was a little over a year ago that he made a post on his website about his financial situation at the time, asking for any donations fans were willing to give until things got better. I only had about 20 bucks to spare, but I gave it all to him since, you know, as fans we take and take and don't give much back in general. I honestly had almost forgotten I'd done that until I saw my name while reading the liner notes. I have to admit, I'm pretty psyched about it!

While I'm In Class...
Posted 16 years agoI'm noticing a lot of the people I watch are females... this is interesting since statistically (if the unofficial furry surveys are to be believed) males out number females something like 2.3:1 in the fandom. It's actually pretty cool to see.
The Faces of FA [My Version]
Posted 16 years agoYou know, I have to say, I'm liking this photo meme that's going around. It's pretty cool to see the faces behind the avatars! I'll probably be doing of myself today looking all hot [and I don't mean by attractiveness!] and tired after running a bunch of errands.
Also, it's nice to be reassured that the fandom isn't full of people who look like their faces were hammered with a machete. Superficial, I know, but it's still pretty cool to know. :P

Updates on Me
Posted 16 years agoHave you ever wondered how "fuck" is defined in the phrase "busy as fuck"? Well, I now have a definition for that vulgar word. "Fuck", in this phrase, can be defined as that feeling you get when you think to yourself that you'd have a heart attack from your current workload increasing even a smidgeon; and if this happened you would pull at your hair and yell "fuck" at the top of your lungs. That is what the word "fuck" means in the phrase "busy as fuck".
So yeah... busy as fuck.
However! Not all of it is shit and grime! In my sparse spare time I have managed to get my eager paws upon a game called Torchlight! I hear that it's in between the games Diablo and Fate, neither of which I have played. Regardless of whether this is true, this game is fun and addicting! It's so paaainful to tear myself away from it to do homework just because it's so much fun. Sure it's repetitive and won't give you too much of a challenge even on Very Hard, but that's part of the fun! It's a great game for just relaxing and filling in some time, and for that totally worth the $20 you can get it for on Steam and Direct2Drive. Check it out!
And finally, a little opinion on music... sure, I could start going on about how Velvet Acid Christ's new album is simply beautiful, being mix of goth and Industrial, but I'm currently on a kick for one of the first bands I came across when getting into Industrial music.
Negative Format is one the most unfortunately underrated bands on the Metropolis Records roster. These guys seriously just get pushed aside in favor of the more cookie cutter bands despite their creativity and don't get the attention they deserve.
Their music blends plenty of electronic genres together, including Industrial, EBM, Trance, Techno, Ambient, and in a couple of their songs, even Trip-Hop. Their last couple of albums, "Moving Past the Boundaries" and "Gradients", are simply amazing and fully palatable chimeras of style. Unfortunately it's because of their hybridized style that makes them hard to market, which is a shame because it is quite unique and can be clearly identified as Negative Format's trademark style.
I've talked with NF's founding member, Alex Matheu, and he's never been hesitant about responding to my emails and answering questions or simply conversing about electronic music in general. They rarely ever tour, which can be part of why they are relatively unknown among their labelmates, but it also lends a nice mystery to the band which makes it only more appealing. As such, I'm asking for their albums for christmas, but even if I don't get them, I will once I can spare the cash! They deserve the support. Soooo, here's a few examples of my favorite tracks by them, including a song that is very very beautiful, Foundations:

Doing What Is Necessary
Posted 16 years agoTo give some background as to why I'm making this journal, let me explain. Recently a close friend of mine recently made a call that seems to have been a little hard to do. They may have broken somebody's heart, but they did what they believed would make themselves happier. This leads me to my subject:
Making choices for your own happiness.
Many times people in relationships don't make a decision because they'd be hurting the other person emotionally. Most of the time they tell themselves that making that decision would be selfish, even if it would ultimately result in their happiness, and end up choosing to stay in a situation that makes them unhappy.
Making a choice to get out of an intolerable situation to benefit yourself is NOT selfish. Never let the others that are affected lead you to believe that it is. Now, I'm not saying that when one little issue springs up that you should jump ship. Issues pop up in relationship, that's just a fact. However, when the issue is a recurring problem that makes you unhappier as time goes on, the it's time to make a call. At that point, it comes down to doing what's necessary for yourself.
Sure, if you go by the dictionary definition of selfish, that sort of call is selfish to make. BUT, for those with this viewpoint, sometimes it's needed to be selfish. There's no sense in keeping yourself in an unhappy situation for the sake of another's happiness. Why live your life being miserable? In my opinion, the point of life is to be happy. If you're consciously making the decision to stay unhappy, then you're completely missing the point.
Basically what I'm trying to say is if a decision drops onto your plate that affects your happiness with your life, you need to do what's right by yourself. Live your life according to you, and don't let someone take it over with their will. Trust me, you'll be happier in the end.
And to my friend who inspired this tiny rant: I'm proud of you for making the right call.

Furry Meme
Posted 16 years ago*Are you a furry?
Well, duh :P
*If you have a Spouse/SO - Is he/she a furry too?
Hehe, yes and yes (not married though).
*How long have you been in the community?
For about 5.5 years
*How did you find furry?
Dr. Comet's website
*What's your reason for furry (what interested you to get into the community)?
Well, it was initially the pron ^_^; A random search for catgirl hentai landed me in Dr. Comet's website and it was the beginning of the end from there :P
*What's Furry to you?
Ultimately, it's what you make of it. Personally, for me, it's a great community to meet people with similar interests. Despite it's shortcomings, it's a fun community that still has great amounts of potential (just don't yourselves so seriously guys! We're weird, except that fact and all is good :P)
*If someone found out you're a furry and asked you about it how would you respond?
Well, I'd say "Yeah, I am" and then proceed to use the more neutral and generic explanations for what furry is (i.e. it's a community of people who are fans of anthropomorphic animals).
*What are your favorite aspects of our community?
All the little silly terms we use, the potential for making jokes, how easy it is to make friends.
*Do you use any furry terms? (i.e. yiff, paws, murr?)
During the first 2 years, I didn't, but it's one of those things where terms latch onto your lexicon. So I have, but not seriously, I usually use them only in furry contexts or as a joke (what's your murrrsona's name? :P)
*What do you wish furry was NOT associated with?
The scummy people who, because they are rejected by all other fandoms for being total creeps, think they'll just identify as furry since there's no where else for them to go.
*How strongly do you feel about someone bashing the community as a whole?
Eh, I may not like it, but I don't take it personally. It's usually because they believe what the media tells them, and generally those people aren't worth wasting my breath on explaining the truth. Otherwise, I also don't see why furries care so much about being excepted by mainstream culture. If they think we're freaks, so what? Let them be retarded.
*How strongly do you feel about anyone bashing you yourself for your interest based on the media's aspect of what furry is?
Heh, I think I already answered this. I couldn't care less.
*We all know furries have alot of sexual aspects in this fandom, What's your opinion on it?
Hehe, it's all good. There's plenty of clean art out there for those who don't like the sexual parts of the fandom, so people who make a big deal about it are just being drama queens.

Anthro's good enough for me

If yes, How many do you own?

A good percentage of them
*How many pets do you own, if any?
Two dogs

Tarot Card Thingy...
Posted 16 years agoSoooo, thanks to
sledmetodeath I went ahead and did this fun little Tarot quiz thing. It's kind of funny, because what it describes is basically how I make the most significant of my decisions. ^_^;
http://www.flarn.com/~warlock/tarot/
My card: The Lovers
Motive, power, and action, arising from Inspiration and Impulse.
The Lovers represents intuition and inspiration. Very often a choice needs to be made.
Originally, this card was called just LOVE. And that's actually more apt than "Lovers." Love follows in this sequence of growth and maturity. And, coming after the Emperor, who is about control, it is a radical change in perspective. LOVE is a force that makes you choose and decide for reasons you often can't understand; it makes you surrender control to a higher power. And that is what this card is all about. Finding something or someone who is so much a part of yourself, so perfectly attuned to you and you to them, that you cannot, dare not resist. This card indicates that you have or will come across a person, career, challenge or thing that you will fall in love with. You will know instinctively that you must have this, even if it means diverging from your chosen path. No matter the difficulties, without it you will never be complete.

Sooooo, I was going to make my "Song of the Day" for the Heat of the Night forums the b-side from the Suicide Commando single that I recently reviewed. But then, I stumbled across the most delicious, exciting, innovative, and DIFFERENT Mushroom I had yet to encounter. This was when I truly realized the glory of Infected Mushroom.
I had already been introduced to Infected Mushroom from their album "Converting Vegetarians" a couple years ago. They are the band that introduced me to Psytrance. Now I've come to find the experimental side of IM, and I've said before, I have recently developed a hunger for something DIFFERENT. When you spend nearly 7 years listening to Industrial and other electronic genres, you get tired of the trend of sameness you start to see. Then you come across a band like Infected Mushroom that takes that salad and tosses it like you've never seen before.
Infected Mushroom has recently released a new album, one that meshes Metal and Rock with Psytrance. The combination they achieve is sooo damn sexy, any fan of rock, metal, industrial, and generally experimental music will LOVE Infected Mushroom guaranteed.
In their newest album, "Legend of the Black Shawarma", they even employ guest vocalists Perry Ferrell of Jane's Addiction and Jonathan Davis (featured in the first link) of Korn. Seriously guys, more than any music I've plugged here before, I encourage to at LEAST give Infected Mushroom a listen. You'll find yourself wondering whether you should be headbanging or dancing!
IM is like the KMFDM of the Psytrance genre. They are not afraid to tread ground where other Psytrance musicians fear to step foot, despite whatever criticism they may receive from purists in the genre. They are almost like Juno Reactor, except that they keep their Psytrance style in their songs whereas Juno Reactor often strays completely away.
So in short, Infected Mushroom has captured my heart. These guys are talented up the ass, and should be given a chance by any Metal, Rock, and electronic music fan out there. Maybe, if you like them, you should catch one of their shows during their world tour (which hasn't stopped since 1999!).
WARNING: The following journal does NOT contain a discussion about psychedelics. Mushroom should be played without restraint or regard to your own sanity/safety. If you experience sonic delusion, turn up the volume and consult your nearest electronic music vendor. Not recommended for purists and close-minded morons.
