Music Review: Suicide Commando- "Die Motherfucker Die" Maxi
Posted 16 years agoExample: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WmjV-d2ErG4
Now, for the review of the second maxi-single I picked up yesterday! This one is still under the Industrial umbrella, but is quite different in terms of style.
Ever since I first heard their song "Hellraiser", I've been a huge fan of this project and have followed their music closely. Now, in order to create some anticipation of their upcoming album, "Implements of Hell", Johan von Roy (the mastermind and sole member of the project), has followed up his "Until We Die/Severed Head" single with this new maxi-single. So now, I review the latest release from this pioneer of the entire Hellektro/Terror EBM subgenre track by track.
Track 1: "Die Motherfucker Die"- Like all of his hits, Suicide Commando continues to mix things up with every SC generation by introducing fresh elements to his music. This one didn't come off very well at first, due to the new elements, but after giving it another try, I realized that this is classic Suicide Commando at his best. The more obvious elements brought into this A-side include a higher pitch of the signature processed vocals than usual, a modified trance synth during the breakdown, and a higher BPM rate than is typical for an SC track. The higher BPM rate makes this track automatically perfect for club play, and along with the catchy minimalist melody during the verses, makes this song memorable.
During the verses, it stays quite minimalistic, with the beat, bassline, and harsh bloops lying beneath Johan's processed vocals, with only an additional hook synth and a haunting organ line kicking in during the chorus, as well as a filtered trance synth line coming during the breakdown and final repetitions of the chorus. This is 'classic' SC, as EBM is very repetitive in nature to begin with. This is it's charm though, and the way Suicide Commando pulls it off, you'll soon be singing along with the lyrics (which focus on betrayal and the sort of murderous thirst for revenge that it gives birth to).
Track 2: "Die Motherfucker Die (Die Twice Remix by Noisuf-X)"- This remix doesn't change too much from the original, except that Noisuf-X adds some signature sounds to it, as well as keeps the re-modified Trance line throughout the track. Some of these sounds include an added distorted percussion line and distorted Noize bass. Despite the fact that it isn't too different from the original mix, it's still very catchy, and if you're a fan of Noize/Power Noise, you'll truly find this track to your liking.
Track 3: "Come Down With Me"- This is the one and only b-side on this maxi-single. It brought me back to what I think of as the 'classic' SC sound, with lower-pitched, multi-voice processed vocals than the A-side and sounds that are typical of SC. However, this also brings a little innovation to the table, with subdued strings and a skin-crawling sample of a choir singing near the beginning. Lyrically, this song is an invitation to watch the world burn alongside him (a murderer whose told by voices to kill everyone). Again, this is classic Terror EBM in it's repetitive, catchy sound. Despite it's very sinister and dark lyrics and sounds, this is one track that'll have you following along with the chorus.
Track 4: "Die Motherfucker Die (Remixed by C-Lekktor)"- Now, I've never listened to C-Lekktor's material, so I am not able to identify what signature elements they may have added. However, this one is the most different from the original out of the two remixes on this maxi. It starts right from the beginning with a buzzing bass beat before the primary beat kicks in, with an even more buzzing Elektro styled synth line. The vocals have also been modified in this remix, with the pitch being brought down a bit, and a certain echo added, along with harsher processing. Throughout the track, little bits and pieces, as well as a sweeping ambient synth, appears, adding a feeling of "controlled chaos" to the track. All in all, it's very enjoyable due to the thickness, and complexity there is in this track compared to both the Noisuf-X remix and the original. It almost feels epic in nature while staying club-compatible. This is the better remix, I would say, but in the end it comes down personal taste as both remixes are enjoyable.
Overall, this a very very pleasing maxi-single to a cautious and wary Suicide Commando fan (once a pioneer has done so much innovation in his career, you tend to worry if the spark will run out). Johan von Roy proves that Suicide Commando has plenty of bite in it with a maxi CD that fails to contain an unenjoyable track. Now, while personally I feel this should get a 5/5, I will have to make the judgment to give this a 4.5/5 on a technicality instead, due to the Noisuf-X remix staying somewhat closer to the original.
If you're into sinister, danceable, and catchy music, this is a maxi-single to buy! It is released in the UK by Out of Line, and in the US by Metropolis Records. You can either buy the album through digital outlets, or from the labels themselves:

Music Review: Assemblage 23- Spark [Maxi-Single]
Posted 16 years agoExample: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sj5OE13kaPI
So today I picked up two MCDs (Maxi-singles on CDs). Tonight I review the first, with the second review tomorrow night. First up, we have Assemblage 23's single, "Spark" for their upcoming album, "Compass".
Now I've never been able to get into Assemblage 23's albums, until now. I was first introduced to their music a couple years ago, but at the time I was in the phase where I didn't want to hear much other than straight-laced Industrial, EBM and Elektro. Assemblage 23, while very very much an Industrial band, tends to experiment with their sound.
Recently I have found a thirst for more experimental Industrial bands/projects, ones that are not afraid to mix things up a little on their albums. This is where Assemblage 23 comes in. Despite not being a huge fan, I am not unfamiliar with their work. There are several tracks that I have liked, ones that identify themselves as an "A23 track" with particular types of sounds and textures that Tom Shear is fond of using. So, when I found out that A23 had a new album due for a release, I decided to get a taste with the first single, "Spark".
The Maxi contains 5 tracks in total, the A-side, two B-sides, and two remixes of the A-side. Now I'll take a look at each individual track.
Track 1: "Spark (Album Mix)"- This track is classic A23, it starts out with a beautiful string progression, with a swelling arpeggio that converts into a buzzing bass line and beat. Tom Shear's vocals are at their best, as they tend to be, putting the almost melancholy emotion into the song. The lyrics may be hard to draw a meaning from, but it becomes clear after some musing. For me, at least, the song speaks of standing tall in the face of hardships, regardless of how strong the pull is to simply give in and give up trying.
Overall, the track has beautiful instrumentals, with the melodies having a beautiful sparkling clear quality like translucent ice. Like the best of A23's songs, this one is incredibly inspirational and I would gladly consider this one of A23's best songs due to it's quality and substance.
Track 2: "Helicopter Girl"- This is the first B-side on the single, and shows the more experimental side of A23, particularly Shear's fondness for including quirky sounds into songs. This one is an instrumental that follows a much more Techno path than Industrial, but it's no less enjoyable. The only constant thing about this track is the beat. Otherwise, it is an ever-changing song that is fun to listen to in order to explore the sheer variety of sounds implemented.
Track 3: "Spark (Combichrist Remix)"- This begins as a curious remix, beginning with the exact same string progression intro as the original track. However, it changes immediately afterwards into a very stripped down, more Techno version of the song, with Shear's vocals being nearly the sole basis of melody with low frequency bass sounds and a techno beat in the background, accompanied by quirky little noise effects. It's pretty decent, better if you become particularly fond of Shear's voice.
My issues with this remix is that Andy LePlagua, the mastermind behind four different bands, used the Combichrist name for this remix. The sounds of this remix reflects the Techno style he uses for his project, Scandy's, music. My only guess is that it's because Combichrist is his focus at the moment. Also, it feels as if Andy didn't put a whole lot of effort into the remix, but again, that may be due to the extensive touring he was doing at the time.
Track 4: "Poison Moon"- This is the second B-side on the single. Much like 'Helicopter Girl', this track displays another side of A23. Poison Moon features Tom taking a more straightforward EBM approach, with a repetitive yet catchy melody bass during the verses with the only change in instrumentals coming at the chorus, where a sampled guitar and lighter synths take over for a short while. Overall it's a simple track instrumentally, and in terms of vocals, Shear takes a more subdued take than he did in 'Spark'. Lyrically, it's quite ambiguous, and it's hard to make a safe bet as to it's content. However, it can be said that it talks of some situation in which someone tells something, perhaps a secret or admittance, to another and is met with an emotional outrage of some sort, while noting that regardless of its impact on individuals, it means nothing in the big picture.
Track 5: "Spark (Whiteout Remix by Jade from Blaqk Audio)"- This remix is much closer to the feel of the original track. However it feels much softer in texture with the synth strings used in the track. It is also clearly better suited for use in the Industrial clubs, because of the nature of its beat. What's different in this remix is that instead of using all the vocals, Jade Puget (of Blaqk Audio and AFI fame), uses only the vocals from the chorus. Overall, it's a very pleasing, easy-listening track despite it's clear club-compatibility. I would go so far as to say this is the better remix of Spark.
All in all, I'd say this is a very very good single that's worth the money. All of the tracks are enjoyable, and the only low point is Combichrist's remix of "Spark", but even then it's still listenable. This is a great taste of what's to come with "Compass", so if you're curious, but do not want to invest in the album, I suggest getting "Spark" before making a decision.
So! This single gets a 4.5/5! It's not a 5 due to the CC remix not being great, but don't let that discourage you!
"Spark" is available on iTunes, Amazon, and is released by Metropolis Records (US) and Accession Records (UK). Honestly, it's worth more to purchase the actual CD as it's the same price as the single is digitally, so you might as well get the disc and booklet.

Dammit....
Posted 16 years agoI hate you Microsoft! x.x
Now, this isn't about the incredibly unstable code of their OS's when they first come out, or all the other things people use to pick on MS. No, I hate them because now I seriously want one of their exorbitantly expensive programs.
See, I'm taking CIS (Computer Information Systems) 105 this semester as my first step towards my degree in CIS. Right now this is just the basics, most of the stuff I already know pretty well (aside from Access). Basically, we're learning all of the functions of MS Word 2007, Excel 2007, and Access 2007. We're just barely finishing up the unit on Word and I learned one of the few things I don't know already, and it was SEXY.
See, as a writer, i have a lot of trouble keeping chapters of stories I've written organized. Another plaguing issue is that of editing. Sometimes I have multiple copies of stories/chapters that are in various stages of editing. It isn't impossible to keep track of it all, but it can be tedious and difficult.
MS Word has the feature with which you can compare different documents side-by-side. For editing, this is an awesome feature to use. It also has the Master/sub document function which lets you attach different documents to a master document. This is awesome for a multi-chapter story as all the chapters could be made in individual subdocuments that you could open if you only wanted to work on a single chapter, or if you wanted to look at the entire story, you could simply look at the master document.
I want MS Word 2007 so badly now ;.;
tl;dr
MS Word 2007 gives this writer a boner.

I Just Can't Stop Laughing
Posted 16 years agoAt this (WARNING: Explicit nudity and sex scenes): http://visit-x.net/rammstein/
First of all, I laugh because as amusing (and that's an understatement) as this video is, I know that primary music networks on tv are so NOT going to give this video airtime in America.
Second, the song is bizarre, and for Rammstein that's saying a lot. So many of their songs uses very extensive metaphors for sex, penises, vaginas, anal sex, etc., but this song is more blatant than their typical works. That's what also makes me laugh is simply how blunt the lyrics are.
On a serious note though, it seems Rammstein is touching back more to their Industrial roots this time around than they did in "Reise Reise" and "Rosenrot". The music reminds me of their "Sehnsucht" and "Mutter" eras, except with better production and heavier riffs.
Also, Till's English has improved a lot since the last time they did a song in English (the English versions of "Engel" and "Du Hast"). I'm quite impressed, actually. Whereas Engel and Du Hast were intolerable due to his horrible English, this is quite bearable and enjoyable.
So, in short, "Pussy" is a fun single that continues the spirit of controversy and silliness that Rammstein brings into their music and videos.

Answer this question, then forward to your friends. Wait till you see the responses.
Question is:

Reply with an answer! Then fwd this on and see what crimes your pals think you're capable of.

Why So Curious?
Posted 16 years agoI am a curious person, one reason why I chose the ferret species to be one half of my fursona. This is not simply a furry thing though, it is a personality thing. Give me your secrets, dark or light, and I will gladly take them into my pool of knowledge. Swear me to secrecy and I will respect your privacy, as long as I can relish the fact that I know more about you than before. Do not give me untruths or half truths, just pure facts. I am honestly not a judgmental person compared to most. My only purpose is to know more. My main drive is simply to know more, not to know more so I may manipulate you or be a gossip queen. I hate gossip. I am simply in pursuit of knowledge.
If you have a problem, express it and if I have any advice worth giving, I will give it. Let me be your therapist. Let me your shoulder to cry on. Let me be your holder of secrets, your confidants. Tell me what gives you the greatest joy, pleasure, sadness, and fear. Ask, and I will listen. I will gladly lend you an ear without expecting a return other than your trust. I will tell you a secret of my own, if you care to ask. In fact, here is one right now: what brings me the greatest pleasure is knowing that you trust me with private knowledge and facts, that you trust me not to abuse your trust. That brings me the greatest mental pleasure above all. So come on, take a seat *pats the spot next to him* and tell me all there is to know about you that you are aware of. Fill my mind, allow me the pleasure of knowing, and allow yourself the relief of knowing that there is someone you can tell that will not judge you nor spread your secrets.
I am Khris Kazeras, though you may call me by my real name, your greatest confidant. I am here to listen and to learn.
(Note: yes, I know, this is very dramatic. But really, if you want to talk, you can talk to me )

Food Service Rant
Posted 16 years agoThere are very very few groups of people I truly hate. One of the groups are bastards who think bisexuals and homosexuals don't deserve certain legal rights. The only other kind are people who have no problem being complete douchebags to be people in retail or food business.
If there is one thing working at McDonalds is that you don't be an asshole to people in the food business, no matter what your problem may be. There are several reasons for this.
1. There's a running joke that you don't fuck with the people who handle your food. Well guess what? It's true in even the most professionally run restaurants. There are so many ways to mess with your food that you wouldn't ever notice unless you were told. So for the sake of your stomach, don't piss off or offend anybody in the crew that the grill crew happens to like.
2. Employees in the food industry are people too. Very often people don't see anything but an employee in uniform and forget that they are people too, with feelings, opinions, and values. Would you be a jerk to somebody you meet on the street who wasn't be a jerk to you in the first place? If not, then you shouldn't be a jerk to the person behind that counter.
3. Sometimes people make mistakes. Shit happens, get over it. If your order is taken wrong or you've been given the wrong food through the drive-thru, don't explode on the next poor fuck you see that works there. Don't throw your food at somebody, and don't cuss them out, don't even be rude. Trust me, after a couple months in the food service industry, people develop this shell shock-like reaction when somebody tells them they've given them the wrong order. Even when you're being polite, there's this part in the employee that twitches in fear and goes "Oh fuck". Being an asshole about it isn't going to help you getting your order fixed in any sort of manner.
On the flip side, there are those people who have become so hardened to assholes that they will deliberately do their worst to help you if you're rude about the whole deal. My store's night crew is the perfect example.
So basically, what this whole spiel boils down to is don't be a douche to people in food service, even if you're order's wrong. If you're nice about it and just say "Hi, something was wrong with my order, could you fix it?" or something that's also not rude, then the person who you're talking to is waaayyyy more likely to be willing to help you. In other words, being an ass about it won't get you anywhere far.

Just a Couple Thoughts
Posted 16 years agoYesterday my sister reflected upon her relationships with people she considered at one time or another a best friend. This includes the one in her childhood, and the one currently. She told me she didn't know why, but all of a sudden, she was drifting from her current best friend of about 4 years. My answer to her problem was this:
People change, plain and simple. You two have changed and have become completely different people than you were 4 years ago. In the process, you lost whatever you had in common, so naturally, you don't feel as close anymore.
This morning, upon waking up, I realized that this would explain my trouble with holding on to friends. Ever since I entered the heady time of adolescence, I changed rapidly though I appeared to stay the same to most. I always felt more mature than my peers, and even now I do. I look around and see them, as well as younger generations, making partying the point of their lives; going to parties, getting drunk and taking pride in the fact that they got incredibly smashed. I never could understand the charm of that, and I still don't. As such, it has been incredibly difficult to hold on to friendships with people my age or younger.
Of course, on the internet it's easier to do this. We don't interact with one another in those intangible ways that allow us to tell whether someone has changed or not. In other words, internet friendships are easier to maintain because change is far less obvious.
So there you have it, a revelation that struck me only a few minutes ago. An explanation to an aspect of my life I have always wonder about up until now. If you have read all of that, then I thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
Daniel Caceres AKA Khris Kazeras

B-Day
Posted 16 years agoWoohoo, it's my birthday today! Oddly, it feels like any other day to me, probably because I have to work. Ah well, I'll be hitting up my favorite restaurants for a meal or something, so I at least get something special today! :)
Uber Quick Star Trek review
Posted 16 years agoIt was full of win. 2 hours and it didn't feel like it was too long. Watch it, make it so!
I'm crazy tired as it's almost 2 in the morning since I caught the last showing of the day, but it was awesome and I have no remorse paying the inflated price of a movie ticket to see it. It gets a 9 out of 10 from me. What keeps it from being 10 out of 10? Well, it has to be history making to get a 10.
Otherwise, here's my explanation. The blatant product placement near the beginning during Kirk's childhood before becoming a cadet in Starfleet. One makes sense due to it being ingrained in the culture of Earth, the other... not very believable at all and very unnecessary. I know, it shouldn't be something to dock the movie for, but I'm anal about product placement, and if it doesn't make sense than I despise it! But that's just me :)
The movie itself rocked my ass and made the geek in me very happy. Now excuse me while I go wash these white stains out of my underwear...

Birthday
Posted 16 years agoMan... it's hard to believe my birthday is only in 12 days from today. It doesn't feel like it, but eh, I haven't been excited for my birthday in a while. Still, I'm always excited when it comes, not because it's my birthday, but because I get to have a gathering of my maternal family over dinner. I always love those ^_^
The 5th of May

Insomnia unRemedy 02- Sex Meme
Posted 16 years agoYeah, these so aren't helping to do anything but pass the time. :/
Sexual orientation: Bisexual. I’m an equal-opportunity enjoyer ;)
How often do you think about sex: Every seven seconds :P Hah, pretty often actually, almost all the time. You should see some of the crap I come up with during certain Ustream chat sessions XD
How often do you HAVE sex: For a few months now, about once a week, but I don’t think that’s going to continue after this semester’s over.
Worst sexual experience: Let’s just say it involves something that Dan Savage has called “sentorum” >.>
Cybersex? Phone sex?: *smokes cigar in a bathrobe, twirling is his pencil mustache* Oh cybersex is sooo typical. *coughs* Though phone sex, not so much. I’m not a big fan of it really. But if you get me started, I’ll be sure to finish it, hehe.
Casual sex: I do it, but only with people I’ve come to trust, such as a friend of mine currently.
What is your favorite masturbation euphemism: There’s so many XD
Sex toys and related fetish accessories: Paddles, without a doubt, though I’m quite partial to anything made black, supple leather.
Least sexiest body part: Mmm, I don’t think there is one. Any body part can be sexy on the right person really.
Favorite body type: I don’t have much of a preference, but I do tend to like someone with a bit of meat on their bones.
Body hair: Some, but not a lot. If I can get a firm grip on your body hair, then you’ll be encouraged to take a razor to that rainforest on your back.
Monogamy or polygamy?: At the moment, neither. I am, however, polyamorous. It can be a lot of work, but I’ve found it to be completely worth it as I’ve found with a couple individuals in particular…
Underwear: Boxers, mostly.
Pornographic or erotic: Both, but I like erotica a bit more as it deals more with the emotions themselves more than the naughty bits.
How large is your porn collection?: I currently have somewhere around 40 pieces of collected erotic anthro artwork. But that's not all that makes up my artwork collection, I assure you.
Favorite hair color: This is something I can say for sure I have no preference for.
Kissing or cuddling?: I like cuddling way more than kissing.
Most attractive nationality/ethnicity: Okay, the attraction does not lie in the heritage itself at the least bit, but if you have a british, welsh… actually, you know what, as long as your accent isn’t redneck from the American south, that’s pretty attractive.
Most attractive anthro/furry creature: I’m highly biased towards mustelids and snakes ^^;
Most interesting fetishes you've heard of: Jello transformation.

Insomnia unRemedy 01- Little Fursona Facts Meme
Posted 16 years agoOkay, so I'm just making this a meme. I saw
lynxia make a journal about some little known facts about her fursona. So here are the rules:
List 4-6 facts that are not, or is rarely, known by anyone, concerning your fursona or main avatar. These facts can be listed starting with questions or statements, whichever you prefer. I'll have examples of both.
Khris
1. How did I come up with him?
To be honest, when I created him, it was all on the spot, species, general appearance, personality, etc. His species, Ferret/Black Mamba hybrid, is the result of me being torn between choosing a ferret or a black mamba (both are primary favorites of mine). As I said, I created him on the spot and off the top of my head, so I made his appearance simple (meaning much of his black mamba heritage isn't shown).
2. Khris has more than one bio and background.
This actually didn't happen until about a year ago. Really, up until a year ago, I only used him for RP on the Heat of the Night forums (which I still use him on). However, much of his bio and background was built around the fictional city the forums take place in, so I ran into some complications when I began to RP with other who were not part of the forums. So, what I did was I created a whole other bio for him. This means, he lives in a totally different city, has a different job, has a different living situation, and has a slightly different personality (though it's very very much the same).
His background changed accordingly, but his childhood is mostly the same in either cases.
3. Does Khris have hair?
Actually no, despite what my icon may seem like. Khris actually has "headfur". Basically, this is elongated fur that grows from his head. Naturally, it is the same color as the rest of his main coloration. His "headfur" is black due to dying. I was on the fence about this for a long while, but I took the idea from Jim Hardiman as it feels a lot more sensible than just saying "oh, he has hair". I'm pretty satisfied with this choice though, so I probably won't be changing it.
4. Khris has two coats according to the seasons.
During the spring and summer seasons, Khris is his typical coloration (what you see in my icon), but in winter and fall, he's as white as snow. However, he'll use the fur-equivalent of make-up to cover up his winter coat as he feels ashamed about it. His reasons for being so lies in a social complex I've been working on in my own fictional furry world.
5. Khris is not my first fursona.
Well okay, he is my first fursona, but he is not my first avatar. My first avatar was Asmodeus Krypt, a Black Mamba character I had created. I only kept him for a short while before taking Khris on. I killed him off in a storyline on Heat of the Night as a way to symbolize my change.
6. What is Khris' tongue length?
This is actually one that I've remained undecided on until the last few months. From the back of his mouth to the tip when it is fully extended, his tongue measures to a whopping 22" (about 56 cm). This is a very rough estimate when putting his tongue (a snake's tongue) to scale. Like I said, I've only decided this very very recently. But hey, it sure makes certain... activities particularly enjoyable for his "playmates". ;)
