A party that happens to coincide with Superbowl weekend!
Posted 13 years agoThis is primarily to aid in a conversation occurring on Twitter, but if some New England friends see this here and are interested do let me know!
So I thought it might be fun to do a little Superbowl gathering at our place, but
jasepanda pointed out that, as we have neither cable nor broadcast signal, we can't guarantee a quality stream of the game and should not plan a "Superbowl" party. However...
We're thinking about having some folks over on Sunday, Feb 3rd. There will be food. There will be games. There will probably be a stream of the Superbowl, but we cannot guarantee such. In the spirit of the game, I'm thinking we'll do pizzas (mix 'n match toppings!) and a side of some sort, then guests are free to bring munchies, beverages, or other sides. As this happens to coincide with
lunostophiles's birthday, there may also be cake. Yes, I will definitely try to make cake.
So... yes... interested parties let us know! We can tentatively start gathering early afternoon and hang through the end of the game (or until people have to leave).
Edit: We are open to moving this to Saturday if that might be more amenable to peoples' schedules. We'll probably stick with the food theme though, of course, there would be no game to watch.
Update:
So we went from a few "can only do Saturday" and a few "can only do Sunday" to everybody saying "yeah, Saturday is great!" We will definitely have a full house, but I do think we can manage it!
We have a limited number of board games available. If you have any favorites or something new to try, please do bring them along! Multiplayer video games are also welcome, though we only have two controllers each on the 360 and PS3 so bring extras as well if you can!
We will be doing pizzas with a variety of topping, some sort of potato related side, and then cake for dessert. We will have a limited selection of beverages available (coffee drinks, hot and iced tea, some soda). Munchies and other appetizers are welcome and encouraged, as are other beverages.
If you have any idea as to what you might bring, please leave comments bellow.
See you all Saturday!

New Puppy!
Posted 15 years ago
jasepanda and I have been spending the holidays in the Midwest with our families and friends. We had not planned on adding to our family again so soon; then we visited several of my friends and their dogs. After that we weren't so sure about waiting 'til summer! Yesterday we drove out to a farm to look at some young terrier mix puppies and went to the wrong one - but lo and behold they also had puppies! We went to the "right" place, too, but we really fell in love with the girls at the first one. They had two left, mostly boxer-jack russell mix, 8 weeks old, one the 'classic' boxer faun color, the other a lovely brindle. We were both inclined towards the latter color, and she seemed just a bit mellower than her sister which should be great. She's still incredibly sweet and playful. She got to meet about half of my family before we left to spend our second week in Chicago and they love her. His folks are not the most enthused about animals, but they've been appreciably tolerant. She was amazing for these first four hours on the road which is great because we have another fifteen ahead of us at the end of this week!
New Hoodies!
Posted 15 years agoFirst off, a big thanks to
tigerclawwi for putting up a great picture of his recent commission here (http://www.furaffinity.net/view/4673479/). After finishing that tiger I had to crank out a few more -- a new panda hoodie for my hubby
solarisskyrider and then a fox to donate to the FurFright charity auction. I'm going to post a quick pic of those two, too -- and if you like the fox, check out the auction this weekend. It could be yours!

Posted 15 years agoSo, I graduated from culinary school with my AAS back in... eep... Nov '03. I've been working predominantly in baking and pastry since then.
Tomorrow is my first day going back for the bachelors. Vocal performance and music education. Unsurprisingly, there's remarkably little overlap, so I'm basically starting as a freshman. Yes, I will be 50% older than most of my classmates.
Should be fun!

For the musically inclined
Posted 15 years agoI've been decidedly quiet on here. Time for a quick remedy!
I just marked off my latest birthday... um... eight days ago now. The hubby was kind enough to indulge my two main hobbies. That is, I have three (!) new books I've wanted on bread/baking/pastry and all that goodness and a wonderful tome of English folk music. That last one is mostly for my hammered dulcimer pursuits (that's this thing http://www.furaffinity.net/view/3005353/).
Just today (so not exactly a birthday present to myself, but one could say that) I went to pay for a lovely old fiddle. I've been trying out a few, and thankfully I really liked one of the more affordable options I had, and it has the stamp of approval from three great local fiddlers I know of. So that came home with me today along with a good new bow. My case for it all should arrive on Monday. Huzzah!

Posted 15 years agoThanks oh so much to
theuseless for the picture that this icon came from. I absolutely loved it -- it just took me a good (eep!) five months to finally get around to this!

Posted 16 years agoI had not intended to post these until after
frostwolf received his hoodie, but
nova-shepherd already showed them to him... so I guess I can put them up!
fluke did the concept work-up of FrostWolf's new suit, so many thanks for that image...

Crazy holidays!
Posted 16 years ago
solarisskyrider went back to Chicago for Thanksgiving with his family so the household was quiet. All in all that wasn't so bad given how crazy work was -- bakery plus the part time gig I picked up at JoAnn's. At Thanksgiving. Crazy indeed.Everything keeps trucking along, though. I'm a little slower going, but have three projects in the works -- cheetah, wolf, and badger -- and will hopefully have more stuff up right quick.
New Toys!
Posted 16 years agoAren't new toys fun? Or new tools, really. My long time companion, the Janome Decor Excel II has been a great sewing machine. For years, though, I've wanted to upgrade -- going from the VW to the BMW as it were (or Honda to Acura or... something else like that). A local dealer acquired a lovely Bernina 1030 trade-in. After they checked it out and tuned it up, I hurried in to try it and promptly brought it home with me. I am, one might say, giddy as a schoolgirl.
While I was upgrading my crafting arsenal, I figured it was about time to finally get a serger, too. After doing some research and shopping around, I was happy to order a refurbished Janome 9102 off of ebay. It should be particularly useful for working with fleece.
That all probably means very little to many of you. Thanks for reading anyway!
And now off to work... black & white kitty hoodie and a badger hoodie.

Custom hoodie anyone?
Posted 16 years agoMy sewing machine has been running like crazy the past few weeks, and I'm quite pleased with all four hoodies so far -- I should have pictures of the fourth and final one up once it's in the hands of its soon to be owner. Now that I'm quite comfortable with my materials and things, I'm opening up for custom comissions!
I've crafted all my hoodies out of anti-pill polar fleece, and will continue to do so whenever available. I can use other materials as requested, too. Hoodies start at $60 plus shipping. This includes most any basic design -- pretty much anything pictured so far in my gallery. Extra colors and details may run a bit extra depending on complexity. I'm open to other projects as well -- costuming for people or fursuits, scarves & mittens, pjs -- I'm game! Drop me a line here and I'll get back in touch either with a PM or else via email (if given) to discuss details!

Two more almost finished...
Posted 16 years agoI have a fox and grizzly bear hoodie just about finished. I should have them in the hands of their owners soon and can, hopefully, get a few more pictures up!
Finally...
Posted 16 years agoGoodness knows I've been on this site long enough, though it has almost exclusively been to browse all the great artists material (and occasional chatter in journals and comments).
Anywho, taking some inspiration home from FurFright I busted out my sewing machine again, dusted it off, and got to work on some fleecy furry hoodies. I've been a stiching up a storm -- I've already got two done for the mate and I, and I have two more projects underway for friends (pictures hopefully to follow).
