Christmas, etc.
General | Posted 16 years agoHello FurAffinity,
My last journal was rather long and was messing up the formatting of my page, so I'm going to take this opportunity to:
1. Wish you all a happy Christmas / Yule / belated Hanukkah / Kwanzaa / Festivus / Holiday 11 / Decemberween / generic winter solstice celebration!
2. Welcome and thank my new watchers... and what the heck, my old ones too. I appreciate every comment, favorite, and watch.
3. Inform you that I will be out of town for a few days after Christmas and without access to FA, so don't expect prompt replies this weekend.
4. Plug MAGFest, the Music And Gaming Festival run in part by my cousin's husband. If you're going to be in the Washington, DC, area from January 1-4, you should totally come by and check it out. I'm on staff for the second year in a row, manning the tabletop gaming room, so if I'm not zonked out under a table you might even see me there. All the pertinent details can be found at magfest.org .
I shall remain faithfully yours,
Kinto Mythostian
P.S. My staffing at MAGFest means that I will be without access to FA for most of the weekend after New Year's as well, so don't expect prompt replies that weekend either.

Character Meme
General | Posted 16 years agoIn celebration of my 12th unique watcher (My “Watched by” box is full!) and hitting 500 pageviews, I have decided to do a meme.
Character Meme (stolen from Felixpath)
1) First list all your OCs by first name so we can see your list of all your wonderful OCs:
Well, the questions ask about characters up to #8, so let's just grab 8.
1. Kinto Mythostian the ass
2. Xanthus Hunterson the pinto horse
3. Heart the vixen
4. Danielle the wolf
5. Halo Mason the vixen
6. Shaahin the mare
7. Lola Lapin the rabbit
8. Quaark the aardvark
2) Who is your favorite OC?
Probably Danielle.
3) Who is your least favorite?
I don’t know… Xanthus, probably.
4) Who is your most developed?
Probably Danielle. When I first created her, she was a minor character in a long, rambling story, but I liked her and she developed a life of her own. Eventually I promoted her to headmistress/chief priestess of the Bulconian Academy of Gonerra.
5) How many girl OCs do you have? Boy OCs? It OCs?
Of the eight listed here, 5 female and 3 male
6) If you were stuck in a burning building, what do you think the third OC on your list would do?
Heart would be of no help to me at all. She would enter the building, but she would ignore me and instead would seek out the hottest part of the fire. Then she would start masturbating. Then she would die. Yes, I made her #3 on the list on purpose.
7) Name one thing you regret about one of your OCs.
Xanthus is boring. He was my first concept of a fursona to represent myself, but he ended up being too much like the real life me – boring.
8) Which of your OCs do you think would make the best parent out of all your OCs and why?
Xanthus, because he and his wife Rose (not listed) are parents – they have three daughters together, although their oldest was abducted some time ago. Danielle is great with children and is possessed of boundless love, so if she hadn’t taken a vow of celibacy she might make a good parent. Shaahin might have done well, but she never got to try.
9) Which of your OCs do you think will most likely be put in jail?
Shaahin actually was imprisoned for a while before her execution. Xanthus and Quaark are law-abiding; Heart and Danielle live at the Academy where Galactic Law is not strongly enforced; Halo is above the law; Lola is a slave, so in a sense she’s always imprisoned; and Kinto is above the law so long as he stays on his employer’s good side.
10) The eighth of your OCs was put into the future! What will their job be?!
Quaark is a professor and is endlessly fascinated by the world. He would probably write a series of scholarly papers about the past (his own time) while simultaneously studying the culture of the future he now finds himself in.
11) Name the first OC’s catchphrase!
Kinto: ”Am I getting paid for this?”
12) Do all your OCs live together or are they separated?
The only two on the list who live together are Heart and Danielle. They both are students/devotees at the Academy.
13) Are there any pairings that are in your OC list?
Kinto and Halo have a relationship, but it’s strictly sexual. Xanthus has a wife, but she’s not listed.
14) Your seventh OC switched bodies with you for a day! How will they react at the end of the day?
Lola: ”Humans are so big and clunky, and penises are uncomfortable. And I missed my fur!”
15) Your fourth OC just became a fifteen year old. What do they do?
Well, Danielle definitely spent her fifteenth birthday at the Academy. She might even have already risen to the position of headmistress by then. Birthdays aren’t really celebrated very much there, so it was a typical day for her: paperwork, classwork, temple duties, maybe sacrificing a volunteer.
16) Now randomly select a person on your OC list. Who was it?
Halo Mason the vixen
17) That OC you just chose? Yeah, they think they are Superman (even if they are a girl) and are on the roof about to jump off.
Well, Halo lives in a penthouse on Pixus, where they build some really tall skyscrapers. It’d be a long way down; she’d probably throw a slave over first to make sure it was safe.
18) Are any of your OCs bored of this meme?
Kinto is.
Xanthus not really.
Heart is.
Danielle not at all.
Halo is.
Shaahin is.
Lola is.
Quaark is fascinated.
19) Would your second OC prefer the beach or the mountains?
Xanthus currently lives in the foothills of a mountain chain. He’d like the beach for a change of scenery, but he loves his home, too.
20) Would your 5th OC battle a shark?
Halo? Hell no. She’d make one of her slaves do it, and she would record the whole battle on video. It’s a shame she doesn’t give her slaves swimming lessons.
21) Which OCs hate each other?
Xanthus has a good reason to hate Kinto, but he doesn’t know it.
22) Which OC did you create first? And last?
Xanthus Hunterson was my first concept of a fursona for myself, although Quaark actually predates him now that I think about it.
23) If seven and three got into a fight, who would win?
Lola vs. Heart. Wow. I’d pay good money to see that… Oh yeah, the winner. Hmm… Neither one is much of a fighter, but if Heart could get her hands around Lola’s throat, Lola would go limp and let Heart kill her. If Lola had a flamethrower, the outcome might be different.
24) What are your first 2 OC's favorite foods?
Kinto: Meat
Xanthus: Whatever Rose makes
25) If your listed OCs were in a fight to the death, who would emerge victorious?
Probably Kinto. He’s stronger than he looks, and he has very few inhibitions. Heart and Lola wouldn’t put up any fight at all; Danielle would sacrifice herself to save someone else; Quaark and Xanthus both would put up a fight, but they’re pacifists at heart and not really built for combat; Shaahin is tough but ultimately no match. Halo would fight tooth and nail if her life were on the line; Kinto won’t be getting out unscathed, certainly.
26) There's a zombie attack and your OCs are stranded. Who do they elect to be their leader?
Danielle is a natural leader. Heart and Lola would definitely back her, but Halo, Kinto, and Shaahin would refuse to elect someone so much younger than them. Ultimately, Halo would probably emerge victorious.
27) During said zombie attack, who's the first to die?
Zombies fear fire. If they built a large fire to protect themselves, Heart would throw herself in it before ever even seeing a zombie.
28) Which one of these OCs do you think would have the most fangirls/boys?
Lola is a performer by breeding and training; she’s a natural star. Halo is a bit of a sex symbol on her own planet.
29) Okay, so does OC number four have any last thoughts?
Danielle: “Thank you kindly for taking the time to do this, Mr. Mythostian.”
30) If possible, what's your characters' height? (These are all for human-shaped-forms)
I’ve never really gotten specific with these, so all I can offer are approximations.
Kinto: ~6 feet or more
Xanthus: between 5 and 6 feet
Heart: currently, the thickness of a layer of charcoal
Danielle: petite; maybe 5 feet at most
Halo Mason: between 5 and 6 feet
Shaahin: ~6 feet
Lola Lapin: not much more than 4 feet
Quaark: between 4 and 5 feet with a stocky build
31) Can your characters dance?
Kinto: A bit, but he prefers not to.
Xanthus: Ballroom dancing, when called upon to do so.
Heart: They offer dance courses at the Academy, but she never bothered.
Danielle: She has taken they Academy’s dance classes; they concentrate on slow, formal dances that can be performed in full formal uniform.
Halo Mason: Can she ever, yes.
Shaahin: Maybe the occasional harvest dance at a village feast.
Lola Lapin: Yes; she does her best dancing at the end of a rope.
Quaark: He says he can, but several witnesses have implicated him in crimes against the art.

I need a job and other news
General | Posted 16 years agoHello FurAffinity,
It's time once again for me to tell you about my life.
1. I am still unemployed. I’ve been looking sporadically and have even applied to several positions, but have not heard back from anyone. I’m not sure what more I can do. I know I have hirable skills, but I don’t know how to advertise myself or where to look.
2. In my last journal, I reported that my classic car had stopped running in the rain. About a month ago, she stopped running entirely. After changing the spark plugs and having the battery recharged didn’t solve the problem, I had it towed to a trusted mechanic, and they were able to put everything back to rights. The good news is that it was definitely not something I could have fixed myself, so I don't have to beat myself up over that. The bad news is that when all was said and done, the bill was $1600. Despite all this, I still love my car and I am pleased to report that she runs great again.
3. My text explaining a lot of the background behind the Bulconian Academy of Gonerra is nearly complete. At one point I had hoped to finish it before the end of October, but that obviously hasn't materialized. I had to put it on the backburner to complete my latest Killing-Time submission, so give me another week or so.
I remain faithfully yours,
Kinto M.

Life and other things
General | Posted 16 years agoHello FurAffinity,
It’s been a while since my last journal, and almost a year since I joined this community. Here’s what I’ve been up to.
1. My cousin and her fiancée got married at the end of May. I actually cried at the wedding, which is not normal for me. Prior to that, the last time I recall having cried was July, 2002.
2. I am no longer a college student. I finished up my necessary credits this summer by doing research for credit at an “experimental farm” in the Shenandoah Valley. I learned all about plants in the genus Physalis, inadvertently learned more than I ever wanted to know about poison ivy and ticks, slept in a building that was once used as slave quarters, gathered important data about a species of moth that may have never been scientifically described before, learned how to drive a John Deere Gator, and generally had a great time. I received my diploma in the mail today.
3. I am now unemployed.
4. Anthrocon 2009 was totally awesome. My cousin invited me to join them about a month in advance. I literally got out of chair and jumped up and down; of course she asked me over AIM so my excitement was unseen. Despite the fact that I accidentally slipped up and referred to furries in the first person a few times, I don’t think she’s figured it out yet. I didn’t get to meet everyone I was hoping to meet, but I still had a blast.
5. My 35-year-old car has decided that she doesn’t like to drive in the rain. She decided this at speed on Route 50. Thankfully, there was light traffic and a generous shoulder; no damage, no injuries.
6. I’ve been writing more, and I’ve actually produced a few complete stories. I’ll probably actually post something of substance soon. Also, I’ve joined the newly formed group Killing-Time, and I hope to be a regular contributor there. If you like snuff fiction and/or art, check it out.
Until next time I shall remain faithfully yours,
Kinto

Anthrocon Journal
General | Posted 16 years agoHello FurAffinity (or what miniscule fraction of FurAffinity actually reads this),
I'm going to be at Anthrocon this weekend, and I’m totally stoked about it. Since my last journal is a bit out of date, I figured this was as good an excuse as any to get a new one up on my main page. Maybe after Anthrocon I’ll put up a real journal.
Where are you staying?
Motel Six somewhere outside Pittsburgh. I’d rather be staying at the Westin, but it wasn’t my decision to make and the Motel Six is a good deal cheaper – maybe this year I’ll have enough money to buy some art.
What day are you getting there?
Friday
Who will you be with?
My cousin, her husband, and a group of other people. Officially they’re there to promote and advertise their gaming convention and I’m tagging along. As far as I know, none of them are furry, and as far as I know, none of them know that I’m furry. I wonder if they’ll figure it out this year.
What is your gender?
Male
How old are you?
22
Are you taken?
Decidedly not. If I interest you, hit me over the head. Don’t be subtle.
Can I talk to you?
Sure. I’d appreciate it if you introduce yourself first, though.
Can I touch you?
See above.
Can I hang out with you?
It’s a distinct possibility. I’ll probably be with my group a lot, but last year I was on my own a lot, too. If I’m not doing anything, then I’m probably amenable to spending time with you, especially since you think I’m interesting enough to take the time to read this.
How can I find you?
That’s a bit tricky. I’ll be all over probably. I can be identified by a camera bag on my belt, a generic Anthrocon badge with my name on it, and I will be wearing a tiger tail. Yes, I know I’ve decided my fursona is asinine (I’m currently leaning towards kiang), but it’s the only tail I own, and I’d rather wear an inaccurate tail than no tail at all. I like having an excuse to wear a tail in public.

Hello FurAffinity
General | Posted 17 years agoHello all,
I am a 21-year-old college student in Virginia in the good old USA. I’m not going to tell you my real name, just in case someone I know finds this and discovers what I do in my spare time. I will tell you that I am fond of anagrams.
I'm new to FurAffinity and to the fandom in general, although I've been lurking on VCL for a while and I attended AnthroCon 2008 (long story short, my cousin's fiancee runs a gaming convention with some friends and they went to to AC to promote it and I got invited to come along; none of them are furry or are aware of my own furryness). I joined FurAffinity mainly because I got tired of clicking on the [More Info] links on VCL and being told I couldn't see it because I wasn't a member and blah blah blah.
I'm currently listed as a watcher, but I may eventually choose to post some of the short stories I've written. I'm hesitant because they're not entirely anthro and most (but not all!) of them end with the death of the main character (although I'm well aware that that is by no means a turn-off for some people). I'm also not sure how good any of them actually are; I've never shown them to anyone else, but I'm proud of the delightful wordplay in some of them. I probably won't post any of my drawings, as my skills as a visual artist are somewhat lacking and I don't have a scanner.
Despite my sometimes fatalistic oeuvre, in real life I'm a very mild-mannered person. I'm courteous, honest, and polite. I don't drink or smoke, and my only costly addictions are Mountain Dew and fuel for my gas-guzzler. I wouldn't describe myself as antisocial, but I don't know anybody I would describe as a "friend." I have never had a girlfriend, which why I describe myself as "perpetually single." In my profile, I say that I am as straight as a 1961 Lincoln, and that's true. Of course, '61 Lincolns have that little kink at the C-pillar, so make of that what you will.
I don't have many interests, but at the top of the short list is cars. I love cars of all varieties, but over the past few years I've developed a particular passion for big American cars from the '60s and '70s. My aforementioned gas-guzzler is a 30+-year-old Mercury Cougar coupe that is 1 foot longer than my parents' minivan. She has a leather interior, an 8-track player, and a massive V-8 engine.
I'm a big fan of Terry Pratchett's Discworld series, and I also enjoy science fiction and Monty Python.
Well, until next time I shall remain faithfully yours,
Kinto
