My Dogs or More Accuratly My Kids
Posted 9 years agoI have four dogs. All of them are near and dear to me, and I haven't been able to see them in a long time. And I won't be able to see them for a while yet. So I guess I just want to channel my feelings into something other than homesickness (petsickness??).
So I thought why not describe them on here, so I can share their stories. (i'm not the best at intro-esque things)
Anyways lets start with the one we've owned the longest: middle-aged Sadie.
A brown and white mutt with some border collie in her and roughly 10 years old. We got her from a shelter as a pup and have loved her ever since. What she lacks in social skills, she'd rather stay in her bed then be with the rest of the pack (unless there's food), she makes up for by being a sweetheart. She's kind, never bites or growls, and is the most dependable dog we have.
The next dog we got was Duke the youngest.
Another mutt that looks like he could be Sadie's kid. He has almost the same markings as her and if it wasn't for his size (smaller thanks to some beagle or terrier blood in him) you'd think they were related. 6 or 7 years old, he came into our lives by quite literally walking through the door. From what we could peace together he was abandoned as pup in the dead of winter, and after walking for a bit found our house and slept on the porch. The next morning my Mom opens the door to start the car and he invites himself in, and hasn't left since.
I think I miss him the most, always the one to jump up and give you "hugs" when you got home. The most active, always wanting to play ball, or curl up next to you on the couch. He's so lovable, sweet, and just a comfort to have around when you're going through a tough time. He's also the only boy in the pack, and also the lowest ranking which is probably why he acts so carefree, cause he really doesn't have an image to protect or anything.
The last two dogs Maggie and Gracie, we got at the same time.
When my grandmother passed away a few years ago she left behind her dogs. My Mom didn't want to put them up for adoption and we took them in. They are the oldest dogs we own 13 and 12 respectively.
First Maggie, the cranky Catahoula Cur mix. We don't know much about her past other than she was another rescue. She may be the smallest dog in the group, but that doesn't stop her from being the loudest. Always the first one to start barking and the last one to stop. She has a habit of breaking up any form of play between the others, and all around being bossy. It's hard to tell, but the title of Alpha in the pack is between her and Sadie. Not the most patient dog, and definitely not afraid to bit the hand that feeds her, yet I still love her, you can't help it when you see her smiling face. (which looks a bit funny since most of her teeth where taken out (she has 10 or so left)).
Finally Gracie the mild mannered one. A very cute Golden Retriever Chow mix, she's had the hardest life. Came from a puppy mill, had at least one litter of pups on the streets, suffers from some severe separation anxiety, she's had a long and tough life. But when you meet her you could never guess, she has no mean streak in her, always calm (as long as she can she you), and always loves making new friends. Right now her life is going through a rough patch. A few months ago she was diagnosed with cancer, untreatable, and just a few days ago she went in for surgery to get part of her lower jaw removed. The cancer hasn't spread which is good news, but...I don't want to talk about it. It's hard not being there for her....
Anyway moving on those are my dogs, and I miss them, roughly 5 months before I see them again in person and I'm just hoping I can last.
