I'm gonna take some time off and work on my fursuit for a while. Then, work on my style - which I currently hate - before posting much to the new account.

Senseless
General | Posted 15 years agoMy boyfriend had never had a pet before besides fish. His dad had turtles for a while when he was younger, but as a kid, he was afraid of them. I have always had pets, and I am determined that I always will. I decided that, as a first pet, rats would be perfect for him - I know they're friendly, playfully, cuddly, and he'd get attached to them fast. He agreed. We decided that we'd each pick out and name a rat pup, even though they'd live with him.
I picked out an extremely cute beige Berkshire dumbo pup, who I named Plague. My boyfriend, Greg, wanted a mostly black rat, so he got a black Irish. He couldn't really think of a name at first, so he ended up naming him Doctor, to be the antithesis to Plague.
The woman who sold us the rats was very happy to sell me Plague. He was a sweet, beautiful rat who she couldn't take herself, but really didn't want to end up as snake food. Doctor was very shy at first. I think he wasn't handled often due to his color, and I'm glad Greg bought him because I don't think many people would buy an almost all black rat as a pet. He's warmed up to us very quickly, though.
Plague was cuddly from day one. The first place he went to when we brought him home was the warmest place in the room - right into my bra. I didn't put him there; he climbed up my arm and settled there until I took him out.
We had only owned them about a few days when Greg noticed something wrong with Plague's eye. We thought it might be a minor infection that he picked up at the pet shop, as something similar had happened to one of the mice I've owned in the past. We washed it out with a warm, damp cloth and told ourselves we'd take him to the vet if it didn't get better.
Then, it got worse. We called the vet. That was on Sunday. We made an appoint for as soon as possible, the next available time the small rodent specialist would be in, Wednesday - today. We waited. We didn't know what was wrong and couldn't, not until the vet saw him. We speculated whether it was a cataract or glaucoma. And we waited, three days, for our appointment - the soonest appointment that was available to us.
Today, we canceled our appointment. On the morning he was suppose to see the vet, Plague died. From what, we don't know. We've had him about a week, and it might still be soon enough to return the body to the pet shop for another rat, but... we'll spend the $3.99 to get our Doctor a companion. We'd rather cremate the body than have them throw it away to save us four bucks.

Help Needed - Creases in Fur
General | Posted 15 years agoHow do you get creases out of fur ? I recently bought quite a few yards of faux fur, and it came to me folded, not rolled. This has caused little creases in places throughout the fur.

General | Posted 15 years agoI've never considered myself an artist. I don't like to draw, and I've always seen artists as people who have a passion for art and want to produce it. I draw when I'm bored. I recognize the flaws in my own art, but I have little interest in fixing them. Would I like to be a more skilled "artist" ? Sure.. but I don't really want to work too hard.
If you compare my art to some of my favorite artists, you would expect to find that they're more skilled, and you'd be correct. However, my style is totally different than I'd like.

I dunno.. I don't even mind that much. Like I said, I just draw when I'm bored.
I'm thinking about changing accounts. I wouldn't delete things on this account - I'm too lazy for that. I'd just like a fresh start somewhere else [perhaps, precisely because I'm too lazy to delete shit]. I'm not sure, though, and right now FA's registration is down anyway.
If I did, I'd only watch a fraction of the people I'm watching now.. and I really wouldn't care too much about losing watchers, since I'm pretty sure most of you don't pay much attention anyway, lol.

No Cons This Year
General | Posted 16 years agoAt first, I was planning to go to FA:U, because I live so close to NJ. I went to FA:U the last time, with 
. The problem we had then was that we didn't get a hotel room, but traveled back and forth from our homes each day. Each day we'd arrive at about 2pm, have to leave at about 8pm, and got home at about 1am. We probably spent almost as much on transportation as we would have on a room. It was a stupid idea.
This year, I had been planning to get a room and spending all three days at FA:U. I was probably going to try to drag
and 
along with me as well.
Having assessed my situation further, I decided I didn't want to do that. I could afford a room at FA:U, but I would simply rather not. I would rather save my money, or spend it on something nifty.
For a few months now, I've been thinking I would just go for one day, probably Saturday, but I don't know.. I don't think I will.
I have no desire to go to FA:U. I simply have no desire to meet people. I know it sounds weird, but what can I say ? I guess I'm antisocial. I just don't want to spend that much money to go to a fur con, when I just don't care that much.

Advice from FEMALES with full fursuits and/or fursuit makers
General | Posted 16 years agoI'm redesigning my raptor character, Arohi. Unlike the old design, the new design is anthro and I think I want to try to make a fursuit of her.
The problem is that she is biologically correct - being a reptile, she has no boobs.
To put it as modestly as possible, this is not something I can reasonably pull off.
But I've seen a lot of women in full-body suits where you could barely see their breasts, giving the suit a flat body. How is this done ? Do I need padding on the stomach ? I have joint problems - how heavy is it ? Is this just a trick of the thick fur ?

I think what I've been trying to do is draw an Atrociraptor and call it an Unenlagia, because I originally drew an Unenlagia, only later to realize I liked the thicker, more reptile-like beak than the bird-like beak.

General | Posted 16 years agoMy DC outlet broke. Luckily enough, certain Toshiba models had been recalled because of this very issue. So one UPS box later, and the problem took care of itself. Lots of things are shiny and new. Like the keyboard. Very clean. I'm happy. Same CPU and monitor, new everything else.

Today, he called my mom. She started telling him about how I'm moving into her basement, so I could go back to school. Halfway through the call, she put the phone on speaker so I could listen in..
Mom: "She's going to study paleontology. She's going to become a scientist! We'll have to start calling her doctor!"
Uncle: "I've never heard of anyone becoming a scientist."
Mom: "Maybe no one in our family, because we're all crazy."

He wanted to go around the block, but I wanted to cut through the park. He says it's the same distance, so I tell him the shortest distance between to points is a straight line. Then he's like no, the shortest distance between two points is a wrinkle in time. So we have this argument about how you can't use theoretical physics to get to a bagel shop, before realizing what we were doing.
Weirdest Interview Process Ever

The "interview" was conducted in a group of about 15 people, mostly women in their 30's, three men - two applying for security and one for the stock room, and me. The "interview" consisted of about 15 minutes of questioning and two and a half hours of sitting around making origami dinosaurs out of the backing of sticker name tags.
The questions consisted of such gems as "what's your favorite movie ?" "other than Century 21, what's your favorite store ?" and "what would you do if you won the lottery ?" My fellow interviewee's answers included, but were not limited to, things like "A Walk To Remember" and "Saks 5th Avenue." All the while, I cursed the economy and thought "Dear God, I DO NOT BELONG!!"
After about three grueling hours of this, all 15 of us were hired.

Kitoichi/Kito: My fursona. That blue fox thing you see all through my gallery. She's a ninja. Sort of. She's an almost-600-year-old immortal Kitsune who use to be a ninja, but since she lives in modern times now she has no use to be a ninja anymore, really..
Elliot/El: Sort of a fursona, but not really. She's the chubby pit bull who's angry all the time. She's 19 and she's had a pretty rough life thus far.
Mutt: Mutt is a pit bull/Irish wolf hound/Akita mix. He's fun and charismatic and will flirt with anything that moves. He tends to get into playful arguments with El, who doesn't appreciate his antics.
Arohi: My "feral" raptor. [No boobs! O:] She's blunt, rational, dominant and somewhat sarcastic. She's a predator character for vore art.
Arminel: A goat/badger hybrid. She's a cross-dressing black knight. [Sort of like Mulan or Joan of Ark, but more evil.] She is actually not particularly "evil" in any way, but her rebellious nature and badger-like temper has earned her a bad reputation. Her preferred weapon is an axe.
Mr. George:A short, chubby, good-natured man in his mid-30s. Though he is by no means a particularly hard worker, he has earned a certain amount of respect for his laid-back attitude, his sense of humor and his intelligence. He has also been known to fancy men at least ten years his junior.
Mark: Mark is an Ood. I kinda just felt like drawing an Ood. He is a free Ood, and a natural Ood.. meaning he still has both of his brains. He also has a cephalopod tattoo, which I thought was cool. He keeps his second brain protected in that box on his chest. He's a pretty cool guy.
Claira: Claira is a dragoat. I drew her when those were popular. She's a ditsy farm girl who carries a baby gator in her purse.
I also have some ideas floating around that I never expanded upon, like a Totodile character and my recent superhero character.

General | Posted 16 years agoI want to move, but I can't find a job. Every so-called opportunity ends in anticlimactic failure, leaving me with the distinct impression that I never had a chance to begin with, and the people I had been dealing with simply did not want to say "no" outright.
At the same time, I want to go to school. I want to learn. It disgusts me when people brag of their distaste involving anything scholastic, while I'm the one that got kicked out. I was the one rejected by the system, when I am the one who wants knowledge. And how do I tell a school administrator that I failed because I was depressed ?
I am ashamed of my failure, and I am angry. I'm angry because this happens to me all the time. I can't learn when I'm not happy. When I am happy, things come easily. When I'm happy, school seems effortless.
But how can I afford to move out and go to school ?
A dorm is simply out of the question. Leaving Agent 0.00 is not an option.
So what do I do ?
As a side note, I don't like the idea of a liberal arts education. I had more fluff work for english than I had any work at all from my major. It was a waste of time I could have spent actually learning something.
At the same time, I want to go to school. I want to learn. It disgusts me when people brag of their distaste involving anything scholastic, while I'm the one that got kicked out. I was the one rejected by the system, when I am the one who wants knowledge. And how do I tell a school administrator that I failed because I was depressed ?
