I don't really know how to tell you this, but the rainbow hedgehogs want to destroy you. I think I realized it when I saw the purple monkey in your apartment and I saw you pull the clothes off my salt beef bucket. I'm sure you're shamed enough to understand the middle east is planning their revenge on you. I'm returning your love letters to me but keeping your virginity as a memory. You should also know that I told in my confession today about the moose poaching and I'm off to lead a new life as a lemon.
Go milk a cow,
~Kit

Crazy year.
Posted 14 years agoA year ago, I was in a completely different place in my life. In so many ways, a lot better, in so many ways a lot worse.
This year (in no particular order):
I got kicked out of my family's house
I was depressed and near-suicidal for a while
I started living by myself and paying rent
I lost about $7,500 to $9,000 in savings to living expenses
I learned how to bike in all sorts of weather and conditions and lots and lots of miles
A three-year long relationship ended...sorta.
I started gaming a lot more
I ran my first con games
I got fired from two jobs after less than 2 weeks and have stuck with a third.
I have had constant questions about my self-worth
I have learned how to bake pretty awesomely
I have binged watched Babylon 5, Adventure Time, and My Little Pony FIM
I got my learners permit and started learning how to drive
I tried to get myself to write more with limited success
I lost my Nintendo DS and a bunch of games
So here I am, messed up in a lot of new ways, and less messed up in a lot of old ways.
Hopefully 2012 will be more unambiguously positive.

Posted 14 years agoI am fail at actually doing things. So, I have decided to change my tack, and do something different.
So, I'm going to focus on worldbuilding, and writerly craft. The goal is to have one of the following done on a daily basis, starting Friday, May 27th, though there might be one (probably shorter) entry for the 26th:
First Rough Draft of a Short Story of at least 1,000 words (probably to increase later) based on one of the following:
1) The novel series world I have mapped out, to include possibly relevant spoiler information based on the plans. Since things might change, some of these spoilers will be red herrings, but I'll try and warn you all.
2) The video game series I am thinking of making.
3) A fanfic or original story
or
A chapter of my novel, first rough draft
or
An incremental draft or perhaps even final copy of one of the works previously featured as a first rough draft.
For the purposes of this exercise, a "Day" ends "Before 6:00 AM the following day", so if I post a short story at 4:30 AM today, it will be "For" the 26th, not the 27th.
Thoughts, compliments, and criticism are welcome and encouraged.
Wish me luck!

Announcement!
Posted 15 years agoI know nobody reads these, but I'm announcing it here anyway! Your loss if you don't read it!
So, I've had a novel idea kicking around for a while, and now that I'm without a permanent home or job and somewhat depressed, I figure, I might as well put it out there! Here's the deal.
1) Everything is copyright me. I'm officially okay with people redistributing it, because, hey, I'm putting it out on FA and probably dA for a reason, but I'd rather people get it from my site so I'm not like "Hey, almost nobody reads this "
2) This is going to be rough. The chapters will be shorter than I intend them to be, the concepts may be rushed, there might be errors of the continuity or spelling variety. Feel free to point them out to me, that's great. Honest opinions are greatly appreciated, don't go around saying it's great when it's actually not. Etc. I'm gonna try and expand and pull the ideas together and edit and edit and edit and make a big book out of it, but you guys get the living rough draft.
3) This will be released under what I call the fandom license, something that I would like to expand upon and really post sometime, but generally, you know what it means. Making fanworks is officially okay. Fan drawings and stories and poems and music (though I call dibs on the music) are all great and encouraged. Don't go selling things like it's yours, it isn't. Put them up for free and I enjoy and encourage it.
4) Since this came up before MEGARA IS NOT A SQUIRREL SHE IS HUMAN. Most of the characters in the beginning are human. It's not really a furry story persay as much as it is a story with furry interest, but by the second book certainly there will be enough to satisfy everyone.
5) My plan is to have a variable schedule that works like this. I will start the monday after I get 5 chapters written, ideally the 17th. Probably not this Monday. I also may break this and start on Wednesday or Friday because I want to. I'm Chatoic. I'm unpredictable like that. General idea is that I will have a buffer. If there are 5+ chapters in the buffer, I will post three a week, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. If there are 3-5, I will post twice weekly, at Monday and Friday, and if there are only 1 or 2 chapters in the buffer, only on Friday. They will likely be short, somewhere around 1000-2000 words, intended to be expanded later. The first book is 30 chapters long, though some might undergo mitosis and split into two or more chapters. If there are 30 chapters and I can keep to 3 chapters a week, I'll be done at the end of March. This will be a continuing series, so I might take a break (or maybe not) and then work on the next one.
7...no....6) I hope everyone likes it!
I might post a bonus preview chapter (that I have already written) sometime, probably on a Monday, Wednesday, or Friday.

The situation has improved
Posted 15 years agoI am currently renting a spare room from a friend's father. I don't intend to keep it very long, and hope to get some sort of more permanent place to rent.
Homeless
Posted 15 years agoIt's been a bit of a rough week/year so far.
I don't mean to whine, and I don't mean to complain, especially because I have friends who are willing to help and one very very special friend who probably keeps me sane.
At the moment, I'm trying to take care of my problems, but honestly, I'm probably more concerned about something else...something which may be beyond my depth, but I want so much to help with.

WHINE WHINE I WANT ATTENTION
Posted 15 years agoNo, actually, not. I'm just sort of intellectually curious about this matter, and want to make an informed, sensible decision about my conduct on this website.
In short, I feel like there are two people that read this journal. The first one is me, and the second one is almost constantly in communication with me over other channels.
And I don't want to go into the whys and hows of that, I probably don't get enough people interested, almost no one watches me, etc. That's fine. I'm not being an attention whore, I'm not unhappy with a low readership. But I have seen that there has only ever been one person commenting on these journals. If no one besides the two people I mentioned read these journals, there's really no point, just logically speaking, writing them.
SO I AM LAVING FURAFNITY FOREVAR
err...no, I'm not. Let's try this again.
Unless I get some comments saying that people read these journals, I'm probably going to stop writing them because they are pretty much an exercise in futility. And I will stop writing them FOREV...nah, I will stop writing them until there is someone who will actually derive benefit from them. And, to be perfectly honest, I won't be emotionally affected either way, I just want to know if there's a point in writing these journals.
That is all.

Not in a good mental state
Posted 15 years agoI've had a pretty awful day, and it's only 11.
Today I had a midterm in Biomechanics. I haven't been doing very well in Biomechanics the whole time, but it really just hit me today. First there was the test. I was annoyed because some people just kept doing the test like 5 minutes after I had. Time was called like 15 minutes earlier, and it kinda seemed like they were really gonna collect it soon. I hate this class. Secondly, one of my classmates told me I should have taken a class that I like with a teacher that I like that I didn't know about instead of this class which I hate with the teacher that I hate that I did know about. Not helpful. Then there was the knowledge that of all the classes I could take next semester to fill this requirement, there's one I haven't taken and it requires the class I'm taking now. Then there was realizing how my family will react to this, me possibly not graduating, they've already been down my neck about my future and my plans.
I was biking to the Union. It's rainy out and there was a lot of water on the ground. I was thinking a million miles a minute on how screwed I was and how hard it's gonna be explaining all this to my family. And I just accelerated. Straight ahead. I wanted to crash into the concrete Union and snap my neck and die.
And then, then I thought of
aurathewolf. And I knew I had to live. I knew I couldn't cause her that level of pain, I just couldn't. I knew she was going to have hard times in the future and I knew I'd have to be there for her. And most of all, the most important thing, is that I knew that she makes me want to live. So I stopped pedaling and turned a bit and eased on to the brakes.
And it probably wouldn't have worked anyway. Worst case, I probably would have ended up in the hospital. Best case, I probably would have ended up a bit dazed, maybe with my bike wrecked. But that doesn't matter, what matters is that I wanted to.
And then, I didn't. Afterwards, all the reasons, all the things I wanted to do flooded back into my brain. All the friends who would be hurt, all the people who might really need me in the future. All my goals, all my ambitions, all my dreams.
But the only thing that made that connection in time, the thing that stopped me, the thing that made me care again, that was her. I feel like, this time anyway, none of the other stuff would have crossed my brain in time.
So, if I hadn't already, I owe her my life, and if I had, I owe her it one more time over.
And I'm glad for my resiliency and the fact that five minutes later I was joking about it. I'm glad for the people I offloaded to at the forum, and I'm glad that my mood has mostly returned to normal. I recognize it could spike downwards pretty much at any point. But at least now, I'm okay.
I think.
Glad I have the psychologist this evening.

Remembering Our Dead
Posted 15 years agoToday is November 20th. It is Transgender Day of Remembrance.
Today I call special attention to the deaths of Amanda González-Andujar and Stacy Blahnik Lee, both killed within the past year.
Hate lives on, and this is wrong. When Transgender day of Remembrance rolls around, I get a fire in my eyes, something that burns within me, that tells me that the attitude towards transsexuals and transgendered people, the thought that their lives are not worth as much, is just horribly wrong. There are a lot of wrong things in this world, and I'm not going to say that this is more important, just that this is one of them.
I may be somewhat of a hippy, but we don't all have to preach peace and love and hold hands and sings songs together. We don't need to love everyone and do our best to be the nicest people we can be. What we have to do, as a world, is stop using our hands to hit each other, stop our voices from calling out hatred, we need to just exist together. Is that so much? Apparently. We need to stop feeling like killing someone else for who they are is somehow right or justifiable. Is that so hard? Probably.
It makes me sick.
Copyrant Notification
Posted 15 years agoOnce again, I am thrust into the magical world of copyright law, as a close friend of mine is being threatened by Sony Music International Japan, and Youtube is telling her to delete all videos with infringing content.
Technically, maybe about 70% to 90% of her videos do, technically have infringing content.
So does the entirety of Fanfiction.net.
Everytime you draw a character that's not an original character of yours, and you don't have explicit or implicit permission to draw, that's copyright infringement.
I drew a horrible picture of Suezo on my furaffinity page. Technically, that's copyright infringement against Tecmo. Please don't report me guys, I don't want to get sued.
My point is, copyright infringement is, most of the time, common, and, to infringe a probably copyrighted phrase, "Mostly Harmless".
Before the internet, people still infringed copyrights. People made mix tapes and drew fan drawings of their favorite characters and made horrible Kirk/Spock slashfics. Now that we have the internet, we can infringe copyrights in creative and new ways, make cool new things.
And thanks to the internet we can be shut down and ruined in more ways than we ever imagined.
In the end, I firmly believe that content should be separated by the law into one of two categories, and by the content creators into another two. The first two are new creative works versus direct copying. Direct copying is worse than creating a new synthesized work, and these should not be lumped into the same legal category. As well, the content creators should separate positive copying (an awesome clip from a TV show might advertise the TV show for free) versus negative copying (a complete episode would reduce DVD sales and advertisement figures).
In this specific case, it's more complex. The infringement was noted by Sony Music Japan for a piece of incidental music in a TV show clip.
I feel it's entirely stupid, and that deleting accounts for repeated infringement is dumb as well. If there's a lot of infringement going on, maybe that person should be barred from uploading without prior screening. But deletion is extreme.
That was my rant.
