Spotlight: Boomer (Great Flood pt4)

Boomer said, as he pulled his mother against him, wrapped an arm around her waist and the other around Keemeome and Malki as she held the kitten with both arms as instructed. He continued to run with them for a handful of steps before the wave swept him off his feet and pulled them all under.
The current was beyond anything Boomer had ever experienced. He had no idea how fast they were going, but it was fast enough and strong enough to force him to hold his mother with all of his might. They needed to surface.
While he and his mother could hold their breaths just over a minute, Malki could not. The kitten didn't even know how to hold his breath, now. He was going to drown if Boomer could not get them above water soon.
If he could not, then the kitten his mother embraced tightly, would be nothing more than a corpse.

She knew that it would be unlikely that she could find a place to shelter before being pummeled by the wave. It was already at her back. The only way they were going to survive was if she could find something to hang on to, to keep the sisters' heads above water.
Terribly, as she scanned the area, she could find nothing of buoyancy. Calico City was impeccably clean, so there was no litter strewn about. There was nothing out of place.
"A tree!" she thought, the idea jumping into her mind.
The trees that decorated the town were palm trees. They could bend and fold without snapping. The winds could beat upon them as furiously as they could, but they would never uproot them. If she could not find something to stay afloat, then finding something to serve as an anchor was her best bet. That was her final thought...
...before the wave caught up to its prey and bared its deadly teeth.

He had yet to reach the door before he heard the loud rumble of the wave surging through the town. They ran out into the open and were horrified at the sight they saw.
From where they were, the shelter was too far away for them to reach it in time. It was impossible to swim against the current, so trying to get to it would surely seal their deaths. Their best option was to run in the direction of the wave's course and try to find some sort...any sort...of place to take refuge.
Boomer raced forward, pulling his mother along with him. He had to protect her and his tiny brother. But, since she was holding the child with one arm, the kitten was not secure. His brother would be swept away for sure. Yet, he knew that their chances of finding something to be their salvation before the wave collided with them were remote.
...and he was right.

General | Posted 4 years agoNo longer an imminent threat, the great wave had finally reached the shore and angrily sped through the city, swallowing anyone that was unfortunate enough to cross its path. Water raced through the town at a frightening speed. Even the ostriches that the people rode, despite their incredible speed, even they would not be able to outrun the water beast, the behemoth that snarled and roared and rampaged everything in its wake.
No one was safe. Not animal, not home, not land and worst of all...not people. Anyone that had yet to reach a shelter was as good as dead. There was nothing to be done to defeat the might and fury of the great sea. In a perverted sense of irony, the ocean that had given the people so much, was now demanding a repayment of its generosity.
...in blood.

Quickly, she sprang to her feet and hurried to the nursery where her sisters slept, oblivious to the danger that they were in and the conundrum they caused. Two kittens were going to be difficult to transport. Yet, if she could harness one to her back, she could easily carry the other. With that resolution in mind she hastily situated one of the twins on her back with a sling. That done, she bundled the other up and nestled her safely in her arms.
"Alright you two, let's get out of here." she said, then with her siblings in tow, headed straight for the door.

General | Posted 4 years agoThe sound of the alarm woke the sleeping members of Boomer's family from their respective states of slumber. Takoda was up immediately, rousing his children from the lingering effects of sleeping on a full belly. Awake and on their feet, he lead them toward the door.
"I have to get Malki!" Keemeome said. "Take the kids. I will be right behind you."
"I'll stay with Mama." Boomer said to his father.
"Right." he answered. "I'll leave it to you, then. Be quick. We will be in the usual shelter spot."
Boomer nodded his head, then hurried to the nursery where his youngest brother slept. His mother was already at the kitten's crib, reaching in to retrieve her sleeping babe.
She had just pulled the boy into the safety of her embrace when she heard her mate shout, "BOOMER! KEEMEOME! RUN!"

The sound of the flood bell rang out loud and clear, touching the ears of all of the residents of the City of Calico. A tsunami was on its way, which meant that the townsfolk needed to head to the flood towers where they would be elevated high enough to be out of the range of the ocean's rampage.
When the bell tolls, the locals know that they have roughly five minutes to drop what they are doing and run to safety. By the time the actual tsunami hits, the citizens have reached safety, as the wave is noticed by the watchman while it is still out at sea. It can take as much fifteen minutes from the time the bell first rings to the the moment when the wave hits the shore. That was how the procedure worked.
Unfortunately, on this day, the alarm was ten minutes too late.

Boomer was washing dishes while his younger sister, Ayasha, dried them. Boomer's father, Takoda, was lying on the living room floor with his sister, Dyami and twin brothers, Pace and Sage. Having just eaten their afternoon meal, the cats were full and ready to enjoy the midday respite napping peacefully in the cozy confines of their home. A gentle breeze whispered throughout the house, carried by the winds that danced across the salty waters of the sea.
Little did they know, the sea was not feeling quite so pleasant. ...not so pleasant and not so gentle.

Her father was in the hospital due to one of his chronic illnesses flaring up. After paying him a visit, her mother, Diana, her sister, Holly and her brother, Dusky went out shopping and then decided to enjoy the midday respite at one of the restaurants in town. The day was largely uneventful and peaceful.

Whenever there is a threat of a tsunami or other deadly sea event, there is a lookout that signals the townsfolk of the imminent danger. However, as the Great Flood was on its way to the Isles of Catriona, the lookout had been overwhelmed with exhaustion and had fallen asleep. With the lookout unconscious, there was no one watching the sea, not even the fishermen, because the wave had rushed toward the town during its midday respite and the they had all went to rest. The city was completely unprepared to escape and would have completely fallen to the mercy of the onslaught, if not for the youngest Prince of Calico, Palm.
A rider was dispatched from the palace and raced down to the city, climbed the tower and sounded the alarm. Thanks to the prince, the Great Flood, although tragic, would have been even more disastrous.

Many homes were destroyed, but far worse, many lives were lost. So many families had family members taken by the wave. Mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, no one was immune to the destruction of nature's fury.
Among the Sweet Shoppe cast, Mint, Sugar, Tange, Candy and Plum escaped the ravishes of the sea with their families intact. Brandy, as well, was safe with her mother and father. As an only child, her family would have been devastated by the loss of any member of the household. But, fortune smiled upon them all, taking only their homes and worldly possessions. Despite the lost mementos and homes, no loved ones were swallowed by the ocean, so the families were thankful for the blessing that the Great Spirit showered upon them.
...Sweetheart and Boomer, however, were not nearly so fortunate.

Moving Update & Stuff
General | Posted 4 years agoTo everyone who sent me well wishes on the last journal, thank you SO much! That really means a lot to me. My house is mostly in boxes, right now. It's like an obstacle course getting around. ^_^ The pets have finally figured out their routes to get from point A to B and I am getting the hang of it, too.
Right now, I've packed about as much as I can. I just have my summer clothes out (because I can't walk around naked) and everything in my dresser. I'm going to be leaving it, my bed and my two bookshelves and will be buying new ones when I get my place. I'm still looking at my options and am waiting to hear back from a few people. Pretty much everything that I haven't packed will most likely be packed by a moving company...because they are heavy! ...that reminds me, I probably should stop buying food...
ANYWAY!
Now that there is a lull in house packing, I may be around a bit more until I get some info back from some of the people I have reached out to. As usual, I've been writing more than anything else, but, I also need to draw a bit more. Otherwise, I will get rusty and...that would be stressful, to say the least! :'-(
So, I've been working on Lion Paws: The Carpenter and the Nightingale in writing and the last thing I drew was in reference to that series. I've also been writing about Sweet Shoppe, mostly about the princes, a few of the girls and the two news anchors that you met on the very first page of the first comic. That was a long passage, actually, but it takes place in the future. Still, since their story doesn't impact the main story, I may just share it here. Who knows.
Anyway, if there are any of my OC's that you want to see or read about, let me know. I'm going to go type up a bunch of things.
OH! Also, who has been watching Camp Cretaceous??? ^_^

Where has Kitt gone, NOW?!
General | Posted 4 years ago...Kitt is moving. ^_^ Sorry, y'all, but I have been packing my house up to move to a brand new state. ...well, I mean, the state has existed for hundreds of years, but it will be a brand new state of residence for me. ...you know what I'm trying to say! ^___^ Anyhoo, a lot is packed up and I'm at a point where I really can't pack anymore, because I'm out of space to put boxes. ^_^; So, I'll probably be active here again, in the interim. My computer setup is untouched...because it's an easy setup and I'm not packing my computer up. It will go in the car with me, so it will always be out.
When am I moving? As soon as I get an apartment. I have a few that I want to check out, so I'll head down there to my sister's house and drive around to see what looks good. Then, my stuff will be packed, so I can move in right away.
^_^ Aright! With that said, I'm going to get something to eat and do a little writing. Bye, y'all!

General | Posted 4 years agoHey, y'all! The weather is really nice today, so I think I'm going up go to the park and do some drawing with a big canvas. As I'm getting set, I figured I'd ask you guys if there was a particular character of mine that you'd like to see. I had to draw something for my niece and she needed to color it, so, it reminded me about the things that people used to color lineart of mine. So, I can post some of the lines of my drawings and even draw some new ones and you guys can color them, if you like. Just credit me and let me know, because I'd LOVE to see what you guys do.

FA Users Dark version or Light version?
General | Posted 4 years agoSorry, y'all. I just updated my profile page and info and I want to make sure that everyone can read it. So, if anyone is using the lighter, brighter version of the site, (if it's still a thing, because I sure as heck couldn't find it in the settings) can you tell me if you can read everything on my profile page, or should I change some of the colors of the fonts? I'm using the "dark" version of viewing the site, so I honestly can't tell, but I want to make sure that everyone can read things, comfortably.
Also, I am going to update my commission rates to include detailed pencil as well as remove the pony stuff, so please look for that in my next journal. ^_^

The Family Bravewolf
General | Posted 4 years agoThe family makeup of this blend family is fairly complex. Night, Shade and Blaze are wolves while Mhina, Tod and Kit are lions. Night and Mhina are married of course and are in their mid-30's. Shade and Tod are both 14 while Blaze and Kit are just 8.
Shade and Blaze are Night's younger brothers. Their parents died when Blaze was born, so they fell under his care. He became a father figure to them, especially Blaze, as the pup never knew any of his parents. Shade, however remembers them and although he does look at Night as an authority, he doesn't see him as much as a father as Blaze does. He sees him in the role that he exists, his big brother.
Tod and Kit are the children of one of Mhina's friends who died from illness. Her friend, Tam, had told her that if anything ever happened to him and his wife, Lana, that he wanted her to raise his children. Mhina had been like a little sister to him for years and since he had no parents and no siblings, his wife's parents were pretty old and couldn't really keep up two young boys and though Lana had siblings, she would never entrust her children into their of her dubious "care", they both agreed that Mhina would be a perfectly wonderful mother to their children if their lives were ever lost. As such, when they passed away from illness and depression (that's an entirely different study), she took the boys into her care and now they are her sons. ♡ ( There's a whole entire story here, as well...)
When Night and Mhina married, she looked at Shade and Blaze as their mother rather than their big sister-in-law. It worked out, because the boys adopted her as their mother seamlessly.
Kit recognizes Night as his father and addresses him as such. But, Tod is rather like Shade and cannot see him with the same eyes as his younger brothers. This is is why he calls Night, Night instead of father or dad.
Night is a psychiatrist and works as the school's guidance counselor and therapist. He deals with issues that arise and also has weekly one-on-one sessions with some of the students who have become his patients. He also works outside of the office to treat patients that require home visits.
Mhina is a writer and an artist and works from home. She has a studio in the house where she develops concepts, sketches draws, writes and just generally carries out her work. She is also a homemaker and tends to the house, the kids and her husband. Granted, Night does take out the trash, the kids clean their own rooms and sometimes they help with the dishes, but apart from that, she does everything else. ^_^
All of the kids attend the same school as it contains all the branches of the school plot. Kindergarten all the way up to graduation, all of the grades of schooling are in the same building.
And I think that's it. There's a whole bunch of other stories surrounding this family that I will one day pen to paper, so I'll try to do my absolute best with them.

Who Wears Shoes?
General | Posted 4 years agoIn my stories, the cats on the Isles of Catriona and the canines of Oslan generally do not wear shoes. Except for the royals of Catriona Isles that wear slippers and the dogs that work with machinery on Oslan, everyone else walkabout with bare feet.
On Panthros and Adohi, people typically do wear shoes even though they aren't mandatory. Moccasins, sandals, slippers and boots are the most common worn footwear.

A Sketch A Day
General | Posted 5 years ago...keeps the blahs away. And by blahs, I mean being unable to draw with passion. I've been writing so much lately, that i just haven't been drawing a lot and my work is suffering because of it.
So! I am going to try to do at least one sketch per day. I won't always post them, because sometimes they are kind of rough, like the one I did this morning. ^^; But, if it turns out well, then I will share with you guys.

General | Posted 5 years ago...is a term that is used in my universe to denote a person that is born without the gene to create hair growth on top of their heads. They still have fur, but no hair growth. Presently, the only character that has appeared with this trait is, Arjuna, from the Sweet Shoppe ( https://www.furaffinity.net/view/12585764/ <-- he is the one in the middle). Everyone else that haven't any hair atop their heads, (Night, for example) actually have the ability to grow hair, they just choose to cut it. ♡

I wasn't actually asking how folks felt about the issue because I needed to figure out how I felt. I was just genuinely curious. And curiously enough, it looks like I'm the only one that has an even split. Everyone else either likes one exclusively, or they like them both, but lean toward one or another. It looked like I was the only 50/50...am weird? Hmm...the answer to that question is: ...a little bit. ^_^
So with all of this in mind, going forward, if/when I draw a nude male character (Alder, I'm looking at you) I'll just draw him with both, separately, so those who like it one way can see it in the way that they like. And since I am 50/50, I'll enjoy drawing them both! ♥♥♡♡♥♥♡♡♥♥♡♡
So, that's that. What's the next discussion topic? ...I'll tell you in a just a bit. ...and, it won't be about udders! I'm talking to you, Sky!!!!!!! >_<
