The situation just gets worse and worse and worse and I am done putting up with it. I cannot, in good conscious, continue to support this site.
I am moving all my art and gift art/commissions over to Weasyl within the next few days. After that I will no longer post new art to this account. I may stay check in here for a short while to post update journals and keep in contact with those who haven't made the move, however. I also will not be deleting my art--yet, i have to think about--because of record keeping reasons. I may eventually disable access to my page, though.

Losing a pet is never easy.
Posted 12 years agoWe had to put Babykitty down yesterday afternoon. I don't post about my personal life here often, but her health had been declining rapidly over the past week or so. It reached the point that her quality of life was so low that it would have been cruel to force her to keep going.
I got Babykitty when I was about...4 years old. It wasn't easy. The house is too quiet right now.
Simba, our oldest cat, who left us years ago, was kind of a nanny to me. If that was the case, then Babykitty was practically my sister growing up.
When we got the boys, Speedy and Ying-Yang, she was the one who kept them in line. Speedy, despite being an agile, big tom, got put in his place on a regular basis by itty bitty Babykitty.
We're looking into rescuing a kitten some time this month. I know I’m not replacing Babykitty or filling any holes—nothing can fill the holes these animals leave in my life—but just...loving another animal as I loved her, as she loved me, because that’s what I’m here to do.
If nothing else, I’m sure my father is happy to have some familiar company, where ever he is. I’ll never forget how stubborn Babykitty was when he passed. The EMTs and deputy came in to do their thing and no matter what they did she didn’t budge from his side.
I miss her something awful already though. It's strange to walk into the master bedroom and not have her chirrup at me from the bed.
After losing Lonny, though, I feel my view on pet death changed for the better. Lonny was sick from the start. He fought very hard for such a little gecko but in the end I want to believe he needed to pass so I would have an outlet for my grief over my father—he went 4 days after my dad did—and so I could bring Zen into my life and nurse him back to health because, unlike Lonny, his condition was treatable. Had Lonny not gone, who knows what would have happened to Zen?
Maybe there's another cat out there who needs me help now, and that's why Babykitty felt it was time to take her leave.

Florida Furricane Movie Night!
Posted 12 years agoFlorida Furricane is a new furmeet group looking to gain some momentum in the Bradenton-to-Punta Gorda area. We want to be as active as possible, with weekly and monthly events and meets of all kinds. Movie nights, gaming, bowling, general public outings, the whole nine yards! In the future we hope to host larger events such as parties, adventures to places such as Livingston's and MOSI, charity work for animal shelters and wildlife sanctuaries, and much, much more.
djcheshire has graciously offered to host our first official movie night as a sort of ice breaker event! We'll be showing Kung Fu Panda 1 and 2 and afterwards hanging around to discuss possibilities for the group and get to know each other a bit if we already don't. A bowling meet is tentatively planned for February 2nd, so that'll be talked about as well.

Riding Out the Storm [Weasyl etc.]
Posted 12 years agoThere sure is a lot of controversy surrounding FA right now, isn't there? Questionable admins and the like.
Nothing new, really, but it's gotten to a point that I'm debating a permanent move to Weasyl by the new year's end. I just don't feel comfortable utilizing this site run by the people it's currently run by. Not to mention how outdated and clunky the whole thing is.
However, I have too many friends and contacts here and Weasyl is much too young a site at this point in time.
So I'm going to 'ride out the storm' for a bit, as it were. See if the admins get their rears in gear and make an active attempt to fix all the crap that's happened as of late.
Just thought I'd give you guys a head's-up!

Recently I've been brainstorming changes to make to Ko and Haku.
Originally I was going to alter Ko to be different from Haku, since as a person I've grown and evolved and reached the "goal" that Ko initially represented for me.
But as I tinkered and tinkered I realized that changing Ko's colors drastically would make it so Haku no longer matched him...Which was kind of jarring.
So I decided to start playing around with the idea of drastically changing Haku's colors for the first time since I made him.
Originally I just wanted one finalized color scheme that played off Ko's pending dark/melanistic scheme, but
mosotakoya drew Haku with a palette drawn from the original Super Mario Bros. start-up screen and it aaaaall went downhill from there.
As it stands now, I'm toying with the idea of Haku being able to drastically change color. Not only will this give myself and other artists a lot more freedom and fun when drawing him, but it also eliminates the teeth-grating issue of Haku constantly being mistaken for an otter.
Details and reasoning in the link at the top there, along with some sample palettes!
Check it out and toss some feedback here if you're willing. This isn't set in stone just yet, so ideas and suggestions are welcome. :>

Oh god I could go on forever.

Goodbye, Queen Rose
Posted 12 years agoI lost Rose this afternoon.
I'm not exactly sure when she passed but I checked on her around 2:30pm and found her laying strangely against one of her vines.
When she didn't react to me calling her I already knew what had happened.
It was sudden, to be honest.
She's been healthy and active all week. Eating, pooing fine, climbing, etc.
I feel it may have just been old age--I don't know how old she was when I got her, after all--but on the other hand I can't help but feel like it could have been something else.
I examined her and couldn't find any signs of stress. She didn't feel eggbound, she wasn't impacted. There was no trauma anywhere to suggest she'd fallen and hurt herself, either.
Rose was my first ever reptile, so this is hitting me very hard. I got her at my first ReptiCon nearly three years ago from a guy who really had no idea what he was talking about. I'm convinced she had a pretty bad life up until I got her, and that she was maybe a breeder gecko for him.
She was the animal that started me down this awesome, new path of mine.
I keep looking over at her cage to check on her to find she isn't there and it's bothering me an awful lot. Even though I was never able to handle her, even though she always a bit wild. I loved her. A lot. Despite her drab colors and rocky appearance she had this wonderful, desert-like beauty about her that I don't think any other reptile of mine will ever have.
She really was a queen. And she knew it. Spoiled rotten til the end.
I buried her in her favorite terracotta hide, next to Lonny's grave, with her Buddha statue standing watch over her.
Zen will inherit her cage, since he's due for an upgrade, once I gather the courage to clean it out.
RIP Queen-Bitch Rose Nibbles Deathmachine. I hope you're wreaking havoc across the Rainbow Bridge.

To Elliot's, that is.
It was...Nothing like what I expected, honestly.
I brought my mother along because all the talk about the Elliot's events made it seem like a good choice for an "introduction" for her to a larger fandom event. I think now I should have waited until Megaplex.
We both enjoyed ourselves, of course!
However, there were quite a few problems.
The website made it seem like there was going be a large selection of good--or at least edible--food for lunch and dinner at the gathering, so our group didn't eat too much on the way up to Orlando. When we got to the compound, though, we found a meager selection of mostly pasta. And some salad. And some garlic bread.
The pasta was all watery and flavorless. Even the macaroni and cheese had no taste! The garlic bread was 99% grease. According to my mother the salad was half decent but by the time I heard that I had already lost my appetite. Thank goodness for the popcorn machine or I woulda starved. :S
Moving on from that, we began to explore the compound. [Which, while actually really awesome, was strangely unfinished looking. Ceilings were all raw insulation, and there were exposed wires in the bathroom.]
The arcade room was cool, so there's that. The gaming rooms on the other side of the building were also really awesome! The upstairs lounge was nice, as well.
But the fursuit lounge?
Tiiiiny. Tiny and crowded, especially when we had 5+ people trying to suit up at once. It was ice cold, at least.
That's all that was wrong with the location itself.
Now we come to the matter of the crowd it attracted.
During the day, I actually really enjoyed myself for the most part. I got to see and hang out with some friends I don't get to be with often, so that was cool. I also got to take Haku for one last spin before I send him out for repairs, which was fun!
However, there were a few choice moments. Like the jerk in the fursuit lounge who was yelling--literally yelling--for someone to help him tie up his PVC corset. My mother, sweet soul she is, decided to be nice and give it a go even though it's been years since she's tied one.
Cue this asshole snapping and yelling at her--and someone else who was trying to help--for not knowing the fine art of corset-tying and just generally being a complete and total douchecanoe. I would have told her to just stop and let him fucking deal with it but I was too in shock to say anything.
She finally got it done--quite well, might I add--and her thanks? Nothing. Absolutely nothing! The guy never even said thank you! And she hurt her fucking hand trying to get it done, too!
There was also a group earlier making a ton of lewd gestures and jokes in the longue, going so far as to outright hump each other.
Oh, but that's not all.
We left at sundown to find some dinner.
The next day we got up bright and early--and got breakfast somewhere else--and headed back. Partially because I was waiting on a comission, and partially because, well...I didn't want to give up on it just yet.
What did I come back to?
A bunch of zonked-out, hungover furries. Including one person legit passed out on the basketball court.
Apparently Elliot's turns into one giant drunkfest at night.
Not my scene. At all.
That settled it, honestly. Elliot's just isn't right for me. The smaller gatherings, at least. Too much disorganization, too many jerks, and too many drinks.
I told myself I'd go to Spring Gathering, the more con-like event, to give it a second chance, but...
Apparently that's going to be in Las Vegas this year.
Welp!

It was...Nothing like what I expected, honestly.
I brought my mother along because all the talk about the Elliot's events made it seem like a good choice for an "introduction" for her to a larger fandom event. I think now I should have waited until Megaplex.

No, that's...That's not how that works. When I first saw the journal my first thought literally went to whether or not his account had been hijacked or something because of that quote.
The journal's comments have been quite eye-opening for me, as well. I forgot just how many horrible, disgusting people have weaseled their way into this fandom over the years. Including this gem:
"not including bisexuality who is not really a sexual orientation but a sort of phase and asexuality is the lack of sexual orientation."
'Kay, lemme go tell all my bisexual friends that they're just ~*~going through a phase~*~!

My job is going pretty well! I survived the Black Ops II midnight release AND Black Friday, so I think I'm doing pretty good. B)
Other than that I...Honestly haven't been doing much! Put my Reno RP account on hiatus and started up one for the main spoiler-y villain of Wreck-It Ralph, which I'm really enjoying! I'm a part of a great little Skype group now and we all click together perfectly!

R.I.P. Little Ascalon
Posted 13 years agoI wanted to thank everyone for their well wishes.
I took Lonny to the vet today. He was doing alright, but was still very ill. Unfortunately, the stress of being administered medication was too much, and he passed from it all as I watched. Thanks again for all your help and support, guys.
My poor little prince. We buried him under the tree outside my window in his favorite little nest and one of his fake flowers. My father died in my mother's arms and, fittingly, Lonny died in mine. It's a little overwhelming though, the two of them happening so close together. I'm managing somehow.
I just hope my father knows how to mix CGD up where ever they are.

I’m mad at myself for not being home when it happened, but…I’m thankful he’s out of his misery now. He really has not been doing good the past few days and now he doesn’t have to suffer anymore, as generic as it sounds.
I was not dreading his death as much as I was dreading having to console my mother, but we're both pulling through alright.
It’s still going to be a rough week, so I don’t know how much I’ll be on for a while.
The good news is, not only does Lonny seem to be recovering, but I've landed a job interview with Gamestop...Lets hope that goes somewhere.
I'll write something...Proper, in remembrance, in a few days when my head is clear.

Posted 13 years agoMy 2-month old baby crested gecko is ill, and I don't know why.
I noticed something off about him yesterday, so I took some photos and asked the folks on the Pangea forums what was up.
They say he's much too small for his age, and kind of thin. Which means he's either dehydrated, not eating, or both. But there's no reason for either of those.
The suggestion was made to move him to a smaller enclosure, since occasionally young geckos could get overwhelmed by larger cages and simply...Not do well. I originally had him in a 12x12x18 ExoTerra, but now I have him in a medium kritter keeper.
I'm watching him closely, but to be on the safe side I'm taking him in for a fecal check on Friday. I'm hoping and praying he doesn't have some kind of underlying issue. He's such a beautiful gecko. I want him to find a girl and make gorgeous babies of his own one day.
Wish us luck, guys. In my two years of owning Rose I've never had a problem with her, so with baby Ascalon's health declining like this I'm kind of freaking out. :(
