Since I posted a journal here...

I got nothing to say really. As nothing of note has happened in my life in decades (which is really depressing on my end, but lets not go there). So......


How is everyone?

I spent most of 2010 wallowing in self pity. Well, not sure if self pity is the best description of it, but self something negative for sure. Towards the end of the year it got unbearable to the point where I decided that things have to change. I've wanted change for a quite a while, but always thought that change had to come from somewhere else. I have now decided the change has to come from me, even if I can't actually fix my problems myself. So this year I am making it a real effort to take control of my life and to forge a brave new destiny. It's almost like starting over, except for a couple of people I made a commitment too that I need to address first.

Another part of my campaign for change, a new diet to get myself on track by summer. I didn't even wait for the new year to start (started on Christmas Eve). Already down over 5 pounds :D

That is all I feel like saying right now.

Journal title pretty much says it all. I have had an extremely rough year so far, and sadly, things don't look to be improving anytime soon. It's more like I have finally reached the point where I am starting to be able to cope with everything, so I am trying to ease artwork back into my day to day habits. Whether or not I can stick to this, or collapse back to the psychological mess I've been for the past few months is still to be seen. Hopefully it'll mean some more art posted, with progressively increasing quality.

I decided to stop my livestream today due to overwhelming lack of interest. It was probably just a bad time of day, so if you did actually wanna see me draw live leave a comment below at a time you'd probably be available to watch and I'll try to plan next time a bit better.

I was streaming while I was drawing, so livestream has it for viewing now. It's about 2 hours long, and is missing a tiny bit at the start where I was drawing her face, but all the rest of the line work and all of the coloring is there.

1) I been drawing for about 25 years now.

It's now Moosday!!! Well, technically it started 6 and a half hours ago for me, but I had to sleep. Unfortunately now I must to go work, so I will actually get to start the Moosday festivities around 5:00PM EST (I'll update the journal when I do).

 Speeds is a jobless bum though, so he will be starting the festivities quite a bit earlier, so go poke around his page some and see what he has done.

It seems most people are in the "change is not good" camp, at least the people who have taken the time to write decent comments on my submissions. A few people have said that the new style starting to grow on them, but most of them also throw in 'but I prefered the old style' at the end. It's not going to go back though, and I thought I should take some time to explain why I have gone in the direction I have.

First of all let me address the airbrush shading I started using. This was before the current style change but I kind of group it with it in my head, and I have gotten at least one well constructed critique on that already. I never really cared much for cel shading and found that I can do nice soft shading using the airbrush tools. It adds interest to my black and white sketches and it is pretty easy to add color to later just by layering solid colors on top of the airbrushing. I felt my sketches needed more interest to draw more attention to my gallery and increase the chances people will click through on the dev watch page. I also in general really like how the airbrushed stuff turns out, I just need to work on a few more things about it (like how Rough's hair was shaded in the last one). Needless to say, it is here to stay.

Now the heart of the matter, the style change to a more serious look. This has been a long time coming but none of you really had any way to know it. When I originally planned the story it was a light hearted comedy featuring a catgirl and mousegirl who were roommates, and that cuter style was perfect for that. Over time though I changed the focus, it became a heavy sci fi action story that gets really really dark towards the end. That cutesy style just is'nt appropriate anymore, so it had to go. I'll still likely do things in that style, like the chinchilla sketches for example. But the ModGene's need to be more serious and i need to get used to that now if I am ever going to get to the comic.

Well, that is about it for now. Feel free to leave some feedback on all of this here, I would love to see what everyone thinks (though it won't change anything).

I know a lot of people have asked about me doing requests, trades, and commissions (which I don't) and I have always told the "No" (I try to be polite about it). Well, now there is a loophole, but you have to go to DA for it (you don't have to have an account though). My journal over there has the details, but it's fairly simple to sum up. Basically I am trying to boost my pageviews over there (here too, just not as hard). So I got a little kiriban contest going. Anyone who catches my gallery on a multiple of 1000 page views (125,000, 126,000, 127,000, etc) can send me a screenshot of it and I will put them in a drawing when I hit 150,000 for a free request (1 Free 150k request). And since I only seem to get about 1000 views a week on DA it should be sort easy to catch it :P (Of course that also means I won't hit 150k until January...). Anyways anyone here who wants to try please feel free to, details are at my DA account, good luck.

I've calmed down a bit. I was having a bad day and was in no state to be writing a journal. Thanks for the support everyone.

This really has nothing to do with you FA guys, but it affects you so I have to post something. Basically I am sick of all the emotional stress and frustration my art hobby is causing me due to the fact that my DA gallery has been going nowhere for quite a while now. If there isn't some kind of noticeable improvement there in the next month I'm quitting art for good. If you care enough for more than general sympathy you can read up over at my DA account for more details.

The ModGene anniversery is coming up again. June 26th is two years to the day that I first posted the original Ruse sketch that kicked it all off. I plan to celebrate by drawing some kick ass Ruse pics. And as always unsolicited Ruse Day celebration pics are always welcome :3 If that's too short notice for you then you might want to try again on Ory day July 2nd :P

I'm not happy with my art right now. I'm taking a break until I am done addressing a few key issues.
