22 Creating the perfect NSFW prison.
Posted 12 years agoI had an idea in the back of my head, for some time now.
But I realized I should totally do the idea! It's a good idea!
Each character of mine, usually has their own story, rather than being part of each others' stories. But, rather than me worrying about coming up with all those stories, I can make a separate crossover universe and just dump any and all characters in. (This is poised to present a whole range of benefits to me, including removing hurdles from the creative process.)
Certainly this crossover theme will be a prison, and there are lot of factors that need to be decided, but it will be fun deciding them.
For one thing, should it be a modern-day prison, or should it be medieval fantasy?
I could even have both, this way characters in medeival/fantasy settings can stick to their own setting.
Medieval/fantasy prison:
One advantage of a medieval fantasy prison, is that it can include modern characters (they'd simply be pulled from their respective region or time period, Inuyasha style) and that would work really well. (who doesn't want to be "whisked away"?) Whereas characters from centuries ago in a modern prison wouldn't really work well imo.
Modern prison (main idea for crossover):
I had an idea for an imprisoned character before, and it was gonna be very good.
The crossover version of the prison may need some differences however.
One question is, how to get all these random female characters in a prison together.
By necessity, they must all be there for the same reason rather than for individual reasons.
It also must be a facility used for that reason. So it is not a prison for criminals.
What I had in mind is some kind of dystopian agenda, similar to Hunger Games or some episode of Star Trek.
The females are drafted or selected to "serve" and their service is humiliation.
It could be a sort of cold war between two nations, and female humiliation is a bargaining chip. (for example, x females for 1 year sentence is is equal to x troops for equal span of time. In this case females stand in for troops, and the troops could even be reduced to 0 using this manner of bargaining.)
Of course, all prisoners are under constant camera surveillance.
Live footage is viewable on the internet. (for the foreign nation, or possibly both nations)
One problem with this idea, is that it means the facility and everyone in it, empathize with the prisoners. This isn't really the ideal atmosphere for captivity; it becomes a pretend prison. :/
A solution is to make the prisoner operated entirely by the foreign party. The downside to this is that a weird racist element is involved. This could simply be solved by making the "enemy" an alien or machine, but in that case it wouldn't be explained why a machine or alien race would be interested in human females.
What I liked about the idea for a standard prison is that the damsels are isolated from the rest of the normal world (not counting webcam) and aren't treated to empathy by anyone including prison staff. For the most part I seek to replicate this atmosphere with the dystopian prison, question is what is the best way to do that? Dystopian non-criminal prison has an advantage though: There could be an exhibitionism element. The prisoners can be paraded out in their "prison garb" (in this case nude) for everyone to see. (for the foreign nation, or possibly both nations) But perhaps this exhibitionism element is not integral to the overall idea.
A simpler idea is simply a corrupt government, but I'm not sure I like the idea. (if I can afford to pass up such simple explanations) Wouldn't I have to come up with elaborate alibis the government can use? Would government bother lying to the parents about it? Wouldn't parents protest the government? Wouldn't this make parents look good?
Having written all this out, (and thanks for reading btw), the cold war explanation I might say seems best, with foreigners being the captors. One idea, is the prison is run by foreigners but also staffing a few natives to serve as mediators/inspectors. The icing on the cake is that the mediators adds extra humiliation element for the girls since it means even more people are looking at them, including people "on their side".
Another variation on the idea is to have the prison be on the border, with caged fence both sides so everyone can see.
The down side of the cold war idea is that the captives think they are serving a duty. It's not entirely humiliation in that case. :x
On the other hand, the cold war idea allows for sheer volume in terms of # of captives. This adds to the feeling of helplessness.
It's all about creating the right atmosphere.
Which version to go with?
edit: I think I will go with cold war version. The main reason is so it can be strictly female only. Also because the secret police explanation might perhaps be "too real" and/or disrespectful.
Another reason is the fact that, using cold war explanation, the opposing party has incentive to irritate the captives. If it was a picnic for the captives, then the gover'ment would sign everyone up for it, or some might even volunteer. This is especially true if the bargaining ratio is locked in at 1 for 1. This means both parties want to milk that value for all it's worth.

6 Name progress chart. (Taking suggestions for names!)
Posted 12 years agoThis is simply a list of some of my characters and their names so far, to show where I'm at, and to take suggestions for names.
Before the actual list, here are some sites for finding names: (it will be handy for me as well, to have the links in the same page)
http://www.babynames.com/name/Audrey <- I use for finding names of certain languages
http://www.thinkbabynames.com/meaning/0/Audrey <- my favorite site for finding new names
http://www.sheknows.com/baby-names/name/audrey <- a more comprehensive site
Matilda - English; Battle strength
Nana - Scandinavians; Brave
Now for the actual list.
For the record, all names for furry characters, will be used for the human version as well:

Mirriel aka Mirra (also shown is Sarrah)
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/4975391/
Melisande

Catori (and her friend will be Dakota)
https://www.furaffinity.net/view/964092/
not named yet (Japanese name)

This could be two characters. One will be Michelle.

Macy
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/9257031/ (NSFW, human)
not named yet (leaning toward Ki or Kitten, or a french name.)
(Aurelia?)
MLP-derived characters:
human based on Twilight from MLP (and/or Azusa from K-on)
not named yet (Patricia? Lumina? a japanese name?)
human based on Trixie

human based on Rarity
not named yet (Doll? Dollie?)
humanoid Celestia
not named yet
humanoid Luna
not named yet (Venus?)
Celestia-like character that enters human world as a human, Equestria Girls style
not named yet (most likely a god sounding name such as Hera)
token Octavia clone
not named yet
Lastly there is a character I drew over the winter, that I didn't upload, but is simple enough to describe:
she is:
- caucasian
- a noble, and potential candidate for princess/queen
- has long hair
- hair color is lavender
- in a fuedal setting & time period, possibly with fantasy elements
- Other traits; She is pure hearted. She may be politically incompetent.
Name criteria:
- First name, last name, and title might be needed. (e.g. Princess Jill Smith) I don't have any knowledge of fuedal titles, therefore value the input of anyone who does. "Lady" I suppose is a good catch all, since it's the female version of "sir". There's also "knightess".
- The 3 words must sound well together. (e.g. I considered Raine, but Princess Raine kinda sounds like it's raining princesses. Whereas Lady Raine sounds better.)
- Bonus points if the name is russian or slavic. (but it doesn't have to be)
Names I considered are
Natalya
Natasha
Raine
Lumina
Lavender (since her hair color is lavender, hurr) (the folder I created for reference pics for her, is titled lavender. So the name has kind of a quaint practicality to it. But it is somewhat an odd sounding name.)
edit:

13 All characters have parents? An Inconvenient Truth
Posted 12 years agoIt's nuts..
For as many characters as I thought of, for every single one I may have to figure out what their family situation is.
This includes whether they have parents still living, legal guardians, how many parents, what their relationship is like between them and their parents..
..most importantly though I have to figure out how to relieve the emotional burden from the parents!
And it's rather inconvenient!
See, it's weird, I feel sort of guilty if, for example, a deer girl gets abducted by aliens and they run cool alien experiments on her!
And she's fine.
But meanwhile the parents are wondering where she is, and assume the worst.
It's kind of a buzzkill, you know?
I may need to come up with universally applicable solutions. Any ideas?
One idea is to use an alibi. In this case the aliens a forge a note saying she went to a boarding school or something.
And have her regularly phone home to let them know everything is ok and that she is so totally not being plowed by alien instruments.
Obviously, the alibi isn't always a plausible solution.
Another idea is to simply presume the parents are dead.
After all, you can't worry about your kids if you're dead.
A third solution is to presume that the character has no parents/guardians emotionally invested in her well being to begin with.
Thoughts?
Now that I mention it, simply presuming the parents are dead, or having the character be an orphan, seems like the best solution by far.
I could always make exceptions, on a case by case basis.

2 Choosing a name for my character. :v
Posted 12 years agoI'm trying to find a name for this character:
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/1816013/
and http://www.furaffinity.net/view/3761135/
Anyone have any suggestions?
Here are a few names I was able to pick out so far:
Audrey
Good name... so much so, I might want to hold on to this name for a different character.
(that's the problem with choosing a name.. I need to avoid naming my characters in a way where I might want to switch the names around later.)
Olivia
good name but its meaning is... Elf Army?!
Mia
"of the sea or bitter" what does that even mean..
Jasmine
Good name, but will make people think of princess jasmine from alladin.
Lilah
Good name if pronounced "LIE-lah" not "LEE-lah".
Natasha
Good name.. mixed feelings on the reference to christianity.
Pearl
Highly fitting, although the word doesn't sound quite like a name.
Padme
Good if not for the fact Star Wars used it.
So I guess the strongest contenders are:
Mia
Lilah
Pearl
maybe Olivia or Padme
The name will apply to both the human and furry versions of this character.
There are other minor details I also need to decide on, such as the situation with her parents, assuming she even has any, or w/e the situation is there.

0 different colored skintones
Posted 12 years agoout of all my colored-pencils, only 2 make decent skintones :i
(for caucasian-esque skintones like in the image)
iirc they are Light Peach and Beige.
As a result I actually decided to use the same color for whites and japanese.
and using the second color for most hispanics and most other asians.
Yet that pic above has three count'em THREE different skintones. le sigh
And it's not like i bought the wrong colors, at least I don't think. There aren't even many colors that could qualify as caucasian skintone, probably not even 10, so of course I bought them all. And out of those only 2 really worked.
(There's always other brands come to think of it,. maybe I can for example get "Light Peach" in one brand and "Light Peach" in another, and assuming the color is slightly different, voila: two different skintones)
This is not counting black and dark-skinned characters.
The color brown looks great, but I have one character I decided to want coffee colored so I used "ginger root" ...
....sigh
Thing is, coloring smudges the sketch lines making the colors darker
(this by the way makes it impossible to color nipples. They all end up soot colored.)
anyway she looks like a.. barf colored she-hulk
thanks a lot "ginger root"
When I use the same color elsewhere on the page, where I didn't draw, the color actually looks better because the pencil from the lines didn't muddle the color.
By the way when it gets dark, "ginger root" actually starts to look like a green, like pea soup. When I turn the lights on, it looks bronze-ish/coffee again like it's supposed. Like magic. Pretty weird and I havent seen any other color do this so far, but it probably doesnt matter I guess since it's not like it will show up green in the scanner.
I had the same thing happen to me with a dark olive shirt. >_<

9 Tips for markers/pencils? also: character poll idea..
Posted 13 years agoso I've been drawing stuff.
But I have yet to scan anything in. Therefore, this could pose a problem.
I intended at some point to do so, even if I have nothing worth uploading, solely to break the ice on scanning things in.
(I could even be doing this literally right now. Which is good. But currently I'm not. Which is bad.)
But despite that I'm not really in any rush, because aside from me still in a warming up phase, I've only really drawn two characters (because I've been purposefully focusing on drawing only specific characters) and I'm still deciding how they should look, refining them, etc. Even the sketches of them, I end up erasing bits and pieces and redraw/improve those parts. (eraser whoring still works! it really is like old times. While also being not like old times for better or worse... but also, in a bad way, too much like old times.)
anyway, I was trying to decide on a character to focus on. I was going to do the human version of the deer character (Mirra) but ultimately, unexpectedly, I'm thinking of putting that on the backburner, because I can't get the overly complex story figured out or even why it was so exciting in the first place (my tastes changed a little?) not to mention none of the drawings of her so far look right.
I actually have a gazillion characters unfortunately, but I'm trying to look at only the ones that involve as few other characters as possible. I'm looking to be able to draw 1 main character and be able to jump right in. For example, Mirra was a good candidate because she's just one character who for the most part goes it alone. (as opposed to, for instance, a scenario that involves a group of friends rather than a single character) Of course, other people are still involved such as her master(s), but what they look like are not particularly important.
This gave me an idea to list the characters I'm considering in a journal. Maybe it could be like a poll, and I might end up deciding based on what you think is the best idea. Let me know if I should do this.
p.s.
I've been drawing abs and they've been looking surprisingly good. But is there an exact number of abs? I will have to look them up again. I remember reading that the number of abs varies from person to person. Or was it just their positioning that varies from person to person? (for example some people have abs under belly button, some don't.) Maybe I got the two things confused.
As for markers vs colored pencils: Markers, I find, still have the skid mark effect! (where you can literally every stroke I made. When I got markers, I thought they would give me a flat coloring effect.. but this is just bad.) Though a weird thing happened, I inked a drawing with a sharpee, then moments later I colored it with a prismacolor marker.. (stupid me, I should have waited for it the sharpee to fully dry first) but what happened is the marker became darker, and the skid mark effect seemed to go away for a little while. Perhaps this warrants further investigation.. although I doubt this will be easily replicated, and it definitely won't work on lighter colors.
As for colored pencils, I was going to try application maximum pressure to see if I can go for a flat color effect. Does anyone do this? Will this method work?
But I have yet to scan anything in. Therefore, this could pose a problem.

1 I tried drawing something just now. (also need markers)
Posted 13 years agoI bought a drawing pad and drew a few things. But something wasn't right. The paper was too scratchy. I could be wrong but my theory is that last time I was used to drawing on printer paper using mechanical pencil. I liked the lack of friction and how dark and sharp the lines were (like a pen) as well as thin.
I think the problem might be the combination of mechanical pencil on drawing paper. Meaning that I guess a non-mechanical pencil would actually work better on this paper than a mechanical one. (Not that I'm willing to switch to non-mechanical pencil)

13 Nevermind... (me drawing postponed again)
Posted 13 years agoThis got me thinking though, maybe I should give up on my laptop and go traditional again. And just bring a scanner to this PC every once in a while just to upload works. I think I'd need like some sort of scanner carrying case. wtf, a scanner carrying case? Nevermind. I guess. Maybe?
But yea, I've been becoming more aware how much I need to lower the bar for myself. Me drawing is too much of a theory at this point. At this point I'm even considering coloring traditionally. Insane, I know.

3 anyone ever felt certain artists are above human?
Posted 13 years agoI do, and it's weird, because even if I get back into drawing, I can't be /like/ them.
Though, that was never the point of me drawing. I never cared if I am an artist or not, and never really considered myself one to begin with.
But, these artists, their ability to produce art at all, and in such great volume, is part of what makes them superheroes. This is just a passing thought but it's kind of discouraging. Come to think of it, yea, that's exactly it. It's the fact that they have an edge even when it comes to simply fulfilling their passion of drawing. Ah. That's the thing I'm worst at.
edit: Thanks for the flattering comments! But I wasn't really saying my art sucks... I actually loved where my style was going. (heh, now I hope I don't come off as arrogant) Whether or not my art is good is not quite what this journal was about.

9 question regarding hooves (anatomy/proportions)
Posted 14 years agoNSFW image and no kids allowed:
http://chan.sankakucomplex.com/post/show/379684
In that pic the hooves seem to ..
well I don't know how to explain what I mean
If the hooves grow out of the flesh then shouldn't the hooves be narrower than the part of the leg it is coming out from?
On that model the hooves are wider than the leg.
But it's not just on that model, it's very common in artwork for anthro deer and horses.
Is this correct though (in real life) or even physically possible?
yes or no question
(unless it depends on species)
Thank you.
And if the model in the pic is anatomically correct then let me know that as well.

21 Are dragon wings supposed to look like hands?
Posted 14 years agosome artwork I see of dragons (such as art by NecroDrone13) have it so the wings look like arms with really long webbed fingers. With even a clawed thumb sticking out of the top.
Is that what a dragon wing really is? (more or less)

Posted 14 years ago0 Who uses red pencils
Posted 14 years agoDidn't hear of this until tonight, someone made a tutorial in which he recommends drawing the initial sketch with a red pencil. (which is different from a red colored pencil, he points out)
Then just now I see a FA submission where the sketch is in red, with black traced over. Coincidence?
The tutorial maker's reason for it was that you can trace the sketch properly with a pen (or normal pencil) and remove the red digitally. (by removing colors)
But maybe there are other reasons for using a red pencil? It's like a thing that artists do?
Where to get these anyway,
Have you used them or knew someone who has?

18 If avians don't have teeth, how do they chew food?
Posted 14 years agoHow do avians eat human food? Do they use their beak to chew, if so wouldn't their beak get dirty, or more importantly food would fall/fly everywhere?
Maybe it's important for avians to have teeth
which wouldn't make them that different from most furs which have snouts and teeth anyway
But I recently came up with another option/solution I was considering
Maybe not having a beak at all, or making the "beak" covered in flesh.
or i.e. treating avian skulls as reptile skulls essentially (since birds evolved from reptiles, right?)
on all 3 points
your thoughts please

18 question about deer hooves vs non-deer
Posted 14 years agoWell I knew deer hooves (which are split into two) and the horse hoof ("normal" hoof or so I thought) but what about hooved animals that are neither horse nor deer.
The more hooved animals I see in art/photoes the more it's like: if I didn't know any better, I would have by now concluded that they ALL have a split hoof except for horses. But is this true/false?
So can someone help set this straight for me.
bull, cow, donkey, sheep, goat, pig, etc
..unicorn??
Also
out of those which do have split hoof: Does that actually mean their hoof/leg makeup is anatomically identical to deer? Or is it still different, aside from having a split.
Lastly, which ones have dewclaws and which don't?
guys I appreciate the help

18 Would anthros walk on all fours? (and if so, how)
Posted 15 years agoI would think it would be uncomfortable and maybe even dangerous.
This position is described as not normal:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:A.....tedfingers.jpg
So it's like
option a) If an anthro (and for the record I'm talking 2-legged anthros here, not taurs) walks on all fours what hand position should they use. Maybe they wouldn't use the palm of their hand but rather they'd close their fists. (walking either on their fists or the side of their fists) Sounds good right?
option b) They'd use their palms, but they are all naturally double-jointed, OR, some other kind of anatomical difference from humans other than being double-jointed (and maybe even in addition to being double-jointed) to allow them to better walk on all fours. (since some anthros have hands that are more paw-like than humans anyway, so it only makes sense that there are internal differences as well) I suppose this could be something as simple has having stronger/tougher joints/fingers than humans.
option c) They do not walk on all fours ever despite being anthros. (i.e. if they did it would be as unusual as if a human did it)
also one other thing
If I go with A, should that mean that they do not have pads on their hands? Or should they have them anyway as sort of an evolutionary left-behind. (like tonsils, appendix, dewclaws?)

7 Is my coloring too vibrant?
Posted 15 years agoI've noticed something with my 2 recent colored submissions:
[ thinking pose - by Konda http://www.furaffinity.net/view/4779874/ ] (NOV 25 EDIT: I lowered the contrast on this submission on account of this journal)
and [ it gets worse (color) - by Konda http://www.furaffinity.net/view/4837602/ ]
I created them on my XP tablet but when I use our other PC and view my submissions, the colors are much stronger and almost neon-like. So I'm wondering whether this monitor is too strong or if it's my XP tablet screen is not as vibrant. (which could make sense considering it's a laptop and an old one at that) If it's the latter, that would end up causing me to pick colors that are more vibrant than I realize.
So if you're reading this, I would like to ask you if the colors in those two submissions are too strong? Or does it look fine to you?

11 5 toes, or 4? 3?
Posted 16 years agoI figure that plantigrade feet might have either 5 or 4 toes.
Digitigrade feet might have 4. Because animals such as dogs, cats, etc.. these animals have 4 toes not counting their dewclaw. (EDIT: I just read that dewclaws usually only appear on the front legs. The dewclaw is a fifth digit, so it makes sense that a four-toed anthro would have five fingers, right?)
My question is, is there any logic to having 4 toes on a plantigrade foot? Humans have 5, but having 4 is more animal-like. (Besides, what good is the little toe!) Having only 4 toes also makes it better for having pads. (4 toes makes it easier to draw pads, plus it just seems more intuitive this way, 4 toes means pads have more presence, also, a little toe with a pad? you sure?) So which is better, 4 or 5, is realism a good reason to choose 5 or does # of toes not really matter from an anatomical standpoint?
Also. I may often see only 3 toes on a furry character. Is there any anatomical basis to this whatsoever?? I think kangaroos have three toes, but I'm not talking about those.
P.S.
Is it right that animals don't have pads under their "heel"? Or they usually don't?

19 Anthros + eyebrows? y/n
Posted 16 years agoWould furry characters have eyebrows? Can you think of any reason as to why they should, or shouldn't? Does it depend on species?
For that matter do any real life animals besides humans have eyebrows?
Are there more devious solutions to eyebrows that should be considered? Such as using patches of secondary fur color instead of true eyebrows.
And what about purely from an art/emotive standpoint. Does NOT drawing eyebrows make it more difficult to make expressive characters? Does the character / art style suffer without eyebrows?
What about your favorite artists. Do you think their art presents a case as to why furries should or shouldn't have eyebrows? And, in either case, are there any pictures you may have in mind that execute this style well?
Personally I often overlook eyebrows in artwork and wouldn't remember whether or not they were even there. Are there any submissions of furry art in which for whatever reason you happened to notice the eyebrows, or the lack of them?

15 Do animals sweat? A chapter in anthro logistics
Posted 16 years agothefunkyone's journal "Anthro Logistics" from way back in January.
http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/600349/
Very comprehensive discussion, and, among the replies one FA user introducing the idea that animals don't necessarily sweat.
But, wtf? Animals don't sweat? To me, this was a BOMBSHELL.
Because, as is the very subject of discussion, if animals don't sweat, would that mean anthros don't sweat either?
at some point I realized, that I haven't looked into the subject any more since then, despite actually considering not drawing sweat and even re-evaluating the use of sweat as an emotive device. (see also: blushing through fur)
So why not find out?? To google it was.
Do animals sweat.
wikipedia: "Mammals are a class of vertebrate animals whose females are characterized by the possession of mammary glands while both males and females are characterized by sweat glands, hair, three middle ear bones used in hearing, and a neocortex region in the brain."
"Perspiration (also called sweating or sometimes transpiration) is the production of a fluid, consisting primarily of water as well as various dissolved solids (chiefly chlorides), that is excreted by the sweat glands in the skin of mammals."
ok, so I take it that only mammals have sweat glands. (but apparently this does not necessarily mean that they are used to the extent of humans, and/or if the the animal has as many sweat glands as a human)
"Animals with few sweat glands, such as dogs, accomplish similar temperature regulation results by panting, which evaporates water from the moist lining of the oral cavity and pharynx. Primates and horses have armpits that sweat like those of humans."
Ok so we have dogs, which don't sweat like humans and rely on panting, and horses, which do sweat like humans but only in specific parts of their body.
One user on answers.yahoo.com says that horses sweat from all over their body, he/she may be wrong but I would believe it because when riding a horse at one time when I was a kid, my jeans got horse sweat on them.
more user posts, some of which reveal that apparently footpads sweat. Any of these might be accurate.
- "Just like any mammal they have sweat glands and sweat to cool themselves down in the summer. However the effect isn't as good as with humans as it's more difficult for the sweat to be evaporated away from their body due to all the fur. This is the case with warm blooded mammals."
- "A cat sweats through its feet mainly unless over heated then they will open mouth pant."
- "Yes but only through certain parts of their bodies. For example, the pads on a dogs feet."
- "yes animals sweat but some animals sweat glands are not in the obvious places such as foot pads"
- "Most animals can't sweat the way we do, we adapted that ability because we are no longer covered by dense hairs"
- "Yes, they do. Dogs have 2 types of sweat glands. The first type is called merocrine glands. These are located in the foot pads of dogs (and cats) and function to help cool the animal. The second type is called apocrine glands. These are located on most of the rest of the dog (and cat) but they do not function to cool the animal. Their purpose is to release pheromones."
http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Why_would.....d_to_rump_area
"A dog's tongue is an integral part of its cooling system. They inhale cool air and expel hot. They perspire primarily through their tongue and a minimal amount through their paw pads and skin pores. The result is slobbering and panting hot dogs!" yaay
ok, but what about the old phrase "sweat like a dog" or "sweat like a pig"? Seriously! It could be largely because of those phrases that I second-guessed the notion that animals don't sweat. Because, really. If a saying goes "sweat like a pig" that that's clear proof that pigs sweat, right??
http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Why_do_pe....._don%27t_sweat
"Actually, dogs do technically sweat--but only out of their pads on their paws. However, I think the expression is actually or originally "sweat like a horse." People may say "like a dog" because they're mixing the animals up because of other expressions like "dog tired," etc., where people have come to feel that the word "dog" just means "very much." I believe the expression is "work like a dog" rather than "sweat like a dog"."
As for pigs, pigs don't sweat and have to roll in the mud to keep cool.
More:
http://www.hindu.com/seta/2005/05/2.....2600351700.htm "In cats, rats and mice they are confined to the soles of the feet. In rabbits, they are around the lips; in bats on the sides of the head; in cattle on the muzzle; in hippo on the pinnae. Hippos and giant kangaroos have red sweat. Birds resort to panting, losing water from air sacs. Dogs also adopt panting. Their tongue has rich blood supply from where water is evaporated." By the way, apparently cattle and horses have different sweat biology. Make note of that! Also "Though sweat glands are present in all mammals, few especially those belonging to the dog family, small ungulates such as sheep, goat and small gazelles cool primarily by a second method of panting because of the fewer number of sweat glands. Third method of salivation and licking is common in Australian marsupials including large kangaroos and some rodents."
So, in conclusion, it seems it can really depend on what specific animal it is, there's no general answer. We can always type in "do ____ sweat" in google to find out for specific animals.
Generally we do know mammals have sweatglands, but depending on the animal they may not actually "sweat like humans do".
my perspective:
I think this opens up liberty as to whether or not anthros would sweat IF they are mammal-based, because if a dog does not sweat but has sweat glands, then an anthro dog might as well sweat like a human since it's a human-styled mammal - a cross between an animal with sweat glands and an animal with sweat glands that actually sweats. So you have a choice, pretty much.
Scalies and avians, on the other hand, might not sweat since they aren't mammal-based to begin with. But, then I realize, virtually all anthros have mammal features. Namely breasts. (and also other things, if you know what I've just read about birds) So on that count, perhaps ALL anthros are mammal and thus must have sweat glands, if all mammals have sweat glands. Though that still leaves open the choice of whether or not the anthro actually sweats like a human.
Lastly, I note that even if anthros sweat, perhaps the sweat would not visible because of fur. Rather than sweat rolling dramatically down flesh, the fur would simply become sweaty. Your thoughts?
p.s: Also wow, did I just say that all anthros are mammal. That's quite a claim. Is anyone going to contest this? ("my character is not a mammal" etc)
