Once a year.
Posted 5 years agoWell, another year has come and gone and yet again, I am celebrating another birthday. I ask nothing of those following me except that they live as best they can in this weird year and to follow the same dedication to good will as the late Chadwick Boseman showed before his unfortunately passing over the weekend. The kind and wonderful actors of the MCU are folks to look up to and emulate in life, and he was no exception. Wakanda Forever!

Salute to a friend
Posted 8 years agoNot many actually know this, but I'm legitimately proud of our American Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines. Not only do they fight to protect our country (some days questionable) but they put their lives on the line for what they believe in. So this Memorial Day, I, and my friends, write to praise a close friend, one whose presence is an insane beacon in some of my darkest hours. Someone I've always considered my friend and I would gladly put my life on the line to protect should things come to it. With all that said, I salute my favorite Veteran, aside from my own Father, that is,

To my Trek fans
Posted 9 years agoWhile not nearly as well known to most Star Trek fans, yesterday saw the passing of Anton Yelchin, the actor who portrayed the Star Trek Reboot series' Pavel Chekov. Too young of an age to die, and for such a lame reason. Pinned by his car between a brick pillar and security fence by his own Jeep Grand Cherokee. A tragic accident. Rest in peace, Anton.
Pokemon Sun/Moon
Posted 9 years agoToday, at 10 AM EST, Tsunekazu Ishihara, President of the Pokemon Company International presented a new Nintendo Pokemon Direct, celebrating 20 years of Pokemon, a world of adventure that I have been a part of since 1998 when Pokemon Red and Blue came out in the USofA. Now, coming holiday 2016 is a new Generation of games, Pokemon Sun and Moon. While I have no idea what it will entail, it certainly clarifies where the new Pokemon, Magearna comes from. It is the first of the 7th generation games. I can't wait.

Mega Man Film
Posted 10 years agoSo, it has come to my attention yesterday that apparently CAPCOM has given 20th Century Fox and Chernin Entertainment the go-ahead to bring the Blue Bomber himself, Mega Man, to the silver screen. I have a lot of concerns about this, particularly in what format they're going to work with, live action or computer animated, what the story to be used is, and how serious an effort they're going to make of this. I'm also quite greatly upset with CAPCOM in this, as they've essentially abandoned the Blue Bomber from games after the events of Mega Man 10's release. Outside of Smash 4, we haven't seen him in any games since. Now, granted, the team at Chernin Entertainment have a good deal of Science Fiction success under their belts with the remakes of the Planet of the Apes films, but there's a great deal that can go wrong in all of this.

Nintendo Fans, tell me you're listening
Posted 10 years agoWe all have a voice. PS4 Fans, XBox One Fans, Nintendo Fans, all of us, speaking for our favorite system. The problem is that Nintendo seems to be gaining a lot of negativity from what feels like a large number of people, more so than the real fans. This is our chance, this is our time to speak up, to shout out, "I'm a Nintendo Fan! I support their decisions!" I realize that I'm probably going to get a bit of hate from this, and I do ask that anyone who thinks otherwise of Nintendo please hold their tongue and let the fans who believe Nintendo knows how to run Nintendo best speak up this time.
The biggest bit of hypocrisy being uttered is that the Wii U is doomed, that it's horribly under-powered, gimmicky and their games are not what we want. The issue is, frankly, how is it doomed? The Wii U is pound for pound on par with the XBox 360 and PS3. While that may not seem like much in terms of pure horsepower, it's still a pretty hefty system, and can run rings around the PS4 and XBox One given a shot. Just recently, we had a huge IP come out for Nintendo, Splatoon. It sold, in a matter of less than a month, 1/10th the install base of the Wii U as of the end of June. 1 Million copies of the game on a system that currently has about 10 million units sold. May not seem like much, but when you realize that this is a brand new IP, and highly experimental, it sure shows that Nintendo fans knew it was going to be great. It never needed voice chat, as many called for, because you were constantly having to change strategy and watching everything you did. Additionally, the voice chat feature was nixed by Nintendo's development staff at EAD, from a team of people in their 20's and 30's. The game is frantic, fast paced and exciting, things Nintendo games are known to be. And if Splatoon isn't your thing, there's other games that you might have found exciting. What about Smash 4? Mario Kart 8? Hyrule Warriors? All of these were huge.
Then there's the whole issue of games, lacking features that people claim will make them great. Star Fox Zero, no online support. Really? Is that going to stop you from playing? I sure hope not. Then there's the complaint that it doesn't look as good as it can. It's good thing it's not coming out this month, then. Nintendo showed pre-release footage, not FINAL CONTENT. There's still a ton of spit and polish to be added to this game, and you can bet that NIntendo is going to make that game look as fantastic as possible. I wouldn't complain about the gameplay either. This is gameplay at the series best since Star Fox 64 with elements of Star Fox 2 for SNES thrown in and a whole new mechanic of being able to fly and shoot at a target while not facing them. That's pretty damn neat if you ask me.
Next, Metroid Prime: Federation Force. So what if it doesn't have Samus Aran as protagonist, or if it doesn't have that sense of loneliness and isolation previous titles had. It's NOT MEANT TO. It's about a team of Galactic Federation MARINES. Marines, a team of soldiers, the top of the top. They're the most bad-ass soldiers the federation has and they're just as capable as the legendary Bounty Hunter herself. Nintendo doesn't need to have Samus in a Metroid game just to make it a Metroid Title, but just to have it set in the same universe. They even intend to expand the lore of the entire series with this game, to examine what else is going on in the universe while Samus is off hunting on her own. Remember, the Metroid Prime trilogy took place during a massive galactic war with the Pirates, and the Federation had their own issues to deal with.
Given all we already know about what's coming out, it looks like Nintendo has a slew of huge games coming out within the next nine months for the Wii U alone. 12 games, all of which have the potential to be mega-hits, like Xenoblade Chronicles X. That game, right there, is HUGE. For those who have played and Finished Xenoblade Chronicles, this game is huge compared to the Wii (and 3DS Remake) hit game. Sure, they had to reduce graphics down to 720p just to fit it on the disc, but given the scope, wouldn't you rather take a slight graphical reduction for a game that has the chance to exceed 300 gameplay hours to complete 100%? That game is going to have some serious lasting power right there.
Looking at what's going on with the 3rd parties, they've been putting out half-finished games, rife with DLC that are needed JUST to finish the game. Why should Nintendo even be copying that behavior? All of Nintendo's DLC is there, not to make the game complete, but to add to it, to expand it, to give us more to do. And their prices are fair for it, and sometimes, FREE. Free stuff to make great games even more so. Looking at that, it would seem that Nintendo sure has the gamers in mind more than anyone else if the DLC practice is the way it's going to be. Then we have to contend with the crap that the 3rd party developers have been giving Nintendo since the N64 era, upset with Nintendo's almost draconian licensing standards, which led to incredible and high quality games coming out on Nintendo's consoles. They're entirely upset about these practices and ever since the PS4 and XBox One came out, they just haven't tried to even give the console a chance to really shine, not putting in the full effort to show support to a console on par with the previous generation, even though they have shown they can port games backwards to the previous iteration with little effort. All of this has created a more recent point to consider, the number of Nintendo fans actually starting to ditch Nintendo over the entire debacle between the systems. Incredibly hardcore fans of Nintendo and their games have turned tail, criticizing Nintendo when they would never have done so before. This event began within the past year, making myself and other fans question why they would turn tail on a respected developer and icon like Nintendo. Why are they suddenly questioning Nintendo?
Even Market Researchers are assuming that Nintendo's Consoles are bought solely for Nintendo games, and yet, the XBox owners could be seen as the same, as with Playstation, though lately, the PS4 seems to be getting the most love from the 3rd party developers. It's just not true, we Nintendo owners would love to have that same third party content, and why should anyone be forced to buy another system for the content that we desire? There are many who can't afford to go out and buy a new console on a whim, and the games they can get are costly enough. If this is how consoles are supposed to be, then when, say, Halo is no longer around, people would likely no longer even desire the Xbox. It doesn't work like that, and nor should it ever.
And low sales or not, it doesn't justify not supporting Nintendo's WiiU for third party support, because even with the Dreamcast's slow sales and the PS3's slow rise, they got plenty of third party support. And even though, the Gamecube had low sales compared to other Nintendo consoles, save the WiiU, it had a huge library of 3rd party support. So it's not just the WiiU's sales that are causing the lack of support, but the developers wanting to be cheap and greedy.
This is all it really is, corporate greed and wanting to get away with giving us subpar content without having to put a full quality effort into it. Nintendo has always had the highest standards of quality until recently, and setting that bar so high was what led to Nintendo's meteoric rise into fame. They didn't let developers half-ass anything, and even some of the most notorious NES games were of high quality of the time.
My final point, the issue of the so-called Nintendo fans and non-Nintendo players that think Iwata and Fils-Aime should step down because they're out of touch? That's not happening. A thing to consider, businesses are run differently across companies, including in Japan. What one company finds successful may not help another, and trying to emulate another business because they're beating you is not always a healthy decision to make.
Trust Nintendo, folks, and let's shout out to Nintendo for being the awesome team they are. Let's get those voices going and make some noise on the internet. Show the rest of the internet your love of Nintendo and let's turn the tide of negativity aside.
Addendum: Please do NOT incite any arguments. I made this journal to show Nintendo some support instead of insulting them and badmouthing them. I do not want to have to silence this journal for any reason.
Secondary Addendum: I reserve the right to flag any comment I find incendiary and non-constructive to this journal and remove them at my leisure.
TL;DR version: Like any person, I recognize that Nintendo has their share of flaws, but it does NOT mean that I find their mistakes to be worthy of disrespect as has been displace in the last few months following E3. The purpose of this journal is to have people reflect upon the good they've done and speak positively about the good things.

Not even a month has passed
Posted 10 years agoJuly sucked, simply put, but during July, two big names that I had respected for a long time died, one of cancer, the other of a heart attack. The first everyone knows as Satoru Iwata, the late CEO of Nintendo, but yesterday, the great "Rowdy" Roddy Piper left our earth. Another big name in the world of wrestling, back during the 1980's, he was one of the biggest and loudest personalities. He will be missed.
The sad passing of Iwata Satoru
Posted 10 years agoRest in peace, good sir. Yesterday marks the passing of Satoru Iwata, President of Nintendo. This comes as a rather big surprise for me, as no one had even known the man was ill.
