So This Is What Happens When You Work 60+ Hours A Week...
Posted 11 years agoNot only do you tend to forget things like your Saturday Doctor Who livestream, but you forget about it until Tuesday of the following week. *rubs his head*
Admittedly, I had not one, but two funerals last weekend, but I still should have put up a cancellation notice. Not to mention, a long 8 hour workshift. My evening work is going through a reset of the ENTIRE STORE, so there's extra hours galore, of which the store manager has decided to grace me with a ton of them, since I'm one of the senior book people. I'm starting to run into the ground.
Okay, there will be a Saturday Doctor Who livestream this weekend. My sincere apologies to those who stopped by, if anyone, since I didn't put up a message.
I love money, but I love adequate sleep and mental coherence, too.

Classic Doctor Who Livestreaming Begins This Weekend!
Posted 12 years agoNow that I've got my Livestream channel worked out, I think it's time to give this baby a push out of the nest, and see how well it flies. You've enjoyed the last seven series of the 9th, 10th and 11th Doctors (along with the War Doctor, who fits in there somewhere) but have you watched the classic Doctors? The ones who got the series going, the ones who got it hugely popular, the ones who got us towards 50 years of Doctor Who!
Starting this Saturday, February 1st, I'll be Livestreaming the classic Doctor Who shows from the 60's through the 80's. Primary emphasis on the first five Doctors, but if there's interest, we can certainly show Doctors 6 and 7, too. We'll be showing one entire serial from start to finish. The first one will probably be a Tom Baker serial, I just haven't decided on which one yet.
http://www.livestream.com/oldtimegallifrey is the place where this all goes down. 12PM PST / 3PM EST and 8PM Greenwich time is the start. Come on over and enjoy some of the very finest of the original Doctor Who.

SCP Foundation: Secure, Contain, Pizza!
Posted 12 years agoFor those that don't know, there's a wonderfully scary indie horror game called SCP: Containment Breach that you can download for free. It's based off of the SCP Foundation website http://www.scp-wiki.net/ that basically lists hundreds and hundreds of unique items/lifeforms that the 'Foundation' has under control. As the motto goes, 'Secure, Contain, Protect', they hunt down these SCP's, contain them if possible in their facilities, and then monitor/study them. Well okay, it's actually a fun site that people use to write their own fictitious SCP's, but it's fun to imagine. The game is deliciously freaky, and sometimes I like going to the SCP website and checking out some of the more interesting SCP's (About 3000 now on the site) and either whistling at some of the more horrifying ones, or chuckling at the more, um... unintentionally or intentionally hilarious ones. Speaking of hilarious, let's talk about SCP-458, which I just discovered today.
SCP-458 http://www.scp-wiki.net/scp-458 which appears to be an ordinary pizza box. But after contact with human hands, it instantaneously replicates a perfect copy of that person's favorite pizza, no matter where that pizza came from. Absolutely hilarious, and diabolically evil at the same time. Open the lid, take a slide, close the lid, open it again... brand new pizza. Which of course, creates several interesting conundrums at the SCP Foundation Facility...
Document #458-1a: I would just like to remind all staff that just because we have a pizza box that can constantly create pizzas for you does not mean that you can just sit around and eat pizza all afternoon. If continued abuse of the box continues, coupled with reports of personnel gaining unhealthy amounts of weight, I may be forced to implement a mandatory physical training regimen following lunch hours.

So yes, have yourself a slice and check out the website and/or the game. Good stuff all around. :D

Merry Christmas to Everyone!
Posted 12 years ago'Tis been a busy day, but I thought I'd take a moment to say Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and Feliz Navidad to everyone out there. I was fortunate for all of the gifts I've received, but also fortunate to have the blessings of a hale and hearty family, the blessings of many wonderful friends, and all of you my watchers for art and not-art. May the tidings of the season be on you.
As for me, I'm going to be messing around tomorrow with the new ice cream maker my brother gave me. I also spent the last four hours watching the Extended Edition of the Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring with... my mom. She apparently hadn't seen The Lord of the Rings, and always wanted to, so tomorrow's the Two Towers, and Friday's the Return of the King. A Merry Tolkien Christmas, indeed. :D

Livestreaming Classic Doctor Who?
Posted 12 years agoI've been debating about doing this for a long time, and with the increased interest from the 50th Anniversary of Doctor Who, I think it's time to give this idea a ride. So here's my question to all of you: would you be interested in a weekly Livestream of classic Doctor Who? And by classic, I'm going by the first five Doctors... William Hartnell, Patrick Troughton, Jon Pertwee, Tom Baker and Peter Davison. We could certainly show Colin Baker and Sylvester McCoy if requested, but I always thought the first five were the classic Doctors.
This would probably be a Saturday Livestream showing all the episodes in one serial, most likely around noon or 1PM PST, so as many people can watch it as possible. Let me know what you think. Is this something you would be interested in? What thoughts do you have on it? I'm curious to hear, because I would love to get this started soon. Thanks for reading!

Lay's Chocolate Chips... taste sensation or waste of $3.50?
Posted 12 years agoFor those who don't know, Lay's is test-marketing bags of Lay's potato chips covered in chocolate at Target stores. Trying to see if the demand is strong enough to put them in grocery stores, apparently. After getting a mixture of online reviews, I thought I'd try a bag myself and see how they taste. Specifically, which is the stronger of the two... the sweet or the salty.
Here's a picture of what they look like here: http://i784.photobucket.com/albums/.....ps5982b266.jpg I was a little disappointed in the size, as the bag is about as big as my hand, and I don't have a terribly big hand. I'd say the sweet of the chocolate was slightly more intense than the salty potato chip, but you could definitely taste both. However, I wouldn't put it in the category of a 'must have sweet'. Especially for three and a half dollars. You could get better things to eat for that price, and it's just not something that made my taste buds dance. It was good.... but not great. For a little more money, I probably could simply buy a regular bag of Lay's Wavy chips, get some dark chocolate chips, melt them down and coat the chips myself, then do a quick freeze to harden the chocolate, and probably get some tastier chips that way. Might even cost less in the long run.
So there's my suggestion... make your own! Or just eat the chocolate and the chips separately like you're supposed to. This was a mashup that didn't quite work out for the best. :)

Adventures in Retail: You Can't Fix Stupid
Posted 12 years agoAs we descend towards the retail Christmas season, like a plane with both engines out hurtling in flames towards the ground, I find that the truly 'special' individuals are coming out of the woodwork and wanting to shop. These are people that would be better served buying their goods online, and saving the rest of us from dealing with their lunacies. But alas... it is not to be.
I had two back-to-back tonight, twin gems of pure genius. The first one walked up to me and asked to see the bibles. An easily answered question, until we reached the section and she turned to me and said, "Now, will you look up on your computer and tell me how thick the paper is in these bibles? My son needs a bible, and we want to get him one with paper that won't tear easily. He likes to rip it out with his friends." And then she starts handing me bibles. >.> I had to explain that paper thickness was definitely NOT something I could look up, nor could you look it up anywhere else. You had to judge for yourself on the paper thickness, because that's one of the reasons why bibles are generally gently boxed up. So she proceeded to start fondling some of my bibles. I left very quickly.
The second one walked up to my desk within a minute of that, and pronounced herself with a blouse that said, "HI! Take a look at my very large breasts! And for bonus points, have a gander at my nipples, because I'm not wearing a bra, either, and the blouse is thin as a Kleenex!" Eye contact. Her first thing was to proudly announce that her daughter was a guest conductor at the local symphony, and that she needed a conductor's wand. Oh goodie. Because all of these books around me just spell out that we sell conductor's wands. I'd have a better shot at having a Harry Potter wand than a conductor's wand. So being somewhat perturbed that we don't have any, she wanted books about conductors. This was one of those moments when I was glad our computer doesn't have a search function, only titles and authors. Sorry to say, she went away unfulfilled. I did too, but only because I couldn't give her a swift boot to the head. These people, I swear.
Okay, vent mode disengaged. Also, new icon. It's been a Daffy week, so I needed a Daffy icon.

KFC... Kentucky Fried Conspiracy!
Posted 12 years agoI love Kentucky Fried Chicken as much as the next person. Okay, probably more. But I'm trying to track something down, and I keep running into a digital wall. Sometime in the last couple years, KFC stopped selling their potato salad. I don't know about you, but I always loved their potato salad. That and the coleslaw were always my two staple sides. Well... they're not making it anymore, and I can't find out why. There's usually always a reason, and I figured I'd let Google fill me in. *BZZZZZZT!* Wrong!
I can't find a single reason why on Google. And furthermore, I was actually seeing DMCA Complaints, but those were in response to Todd Wilbur's famous "Top Secret Recipe" books. Probably copycat KFC Potato Salad recipes. I tried Bing, Yahoo and others. Nothing. Nada. I sense a shadowy government conspiracy to keep us from our delicious KFC potato salad for some unsavory reasons. Or it might have something to do with food safety. But I can't tell, because no one is listing a reason. That's creepy enough.
So, if anyone can shed some light on this, I'd be grateful. The local KFC is keeping their lips shut as well. Susssssspicious. O.o

Who's up for a movie meme?

1. Name a movie that you have seen more than 10 times:
All of the Star Wars movies, god help me. The first four Star Trek movies. Ghostbusters. All of the James Bond movies.
2. Name a movie that you've seen multiple times in a theater: All of the Star Wars, Ghostbusters, the James Bond movies from 1980 through 2000, Avatar
3. Name an actor that would make you more inclined to see a movie: Robert Downey Jr.
4. Name an actor that would make you less likely to see a movie: Adam Sandler. Can't stand him anymore. :P
5. Name a movie that you can quote from: All of the "Seen more than 10 times" movies I can quote readily from. I'm not sure that's a good thing. O.o
6. Name a movie musical that you know all the lyrics to all the songs: Movie musical? What's that? :D
7. Name a movie musical that you have been known to sing along with: *taps his head* Still not getting a reading. Adjusting the frequency...
8. Name a movie that you would recommend everyone see: Lord of Illusions. First off, I usually eschew most horror movies. Aside from the brilliant 'Cabin in the Woods', I've probably seen only a handful of horror movies in my life. So I wouldn't necessarily label Lord of Illusions as a horror movie by itself. More of a scary thriller. Directed by Clive Barker himself, it has his character, Harry D'Amour pulled into a detective case involving magicians and a Charles Manson-like figure who may or may not be still alive. Scary, intelligent and just fun to watch. It gives you a horror element without drowning you in buckets of blood like other movies do. It also has a fun subplot about magic, and damn... I just love watching Scott Bakula in just about anything he's in.
9. Name an unusual movie that you own: Fritz The Cat. Very counter-culture, off-beat, with a ton of social-political controversy and directed by Ralph Bakshi based on the Robert Crumb character. The first animated movie to receive an X-rating in movie history. Definitely not for kids. Shot for under a million, and ended up grossing anywhere between $100 million and $200 million, so it became unbelievably profitable for an 'X-rated furry movie'. As some of the reviews state, there's something in here to offend everyone. ;)
10. Name an actor that launched his/her entertainment career in another medium. There's a whole list of musicians that became actors. Unfortunately, the vast majority of them aren't very good. But there are a few that succeed. Harry Connick Jr. LL Cool J. Ice Cube. David Bowie. Dean Martin. Queen Latifah.
11. Have you ever seen a movie in a drive-in?: At least 5 or 6. The last one I can remember was my Dragonslayer/Flash Gordon twosome.
12. Ever made out in a movie?: It's not the greatest place to make out in. If you're paying money to watch a movie, and then you're making out, you might miss some important plot element.
13. Name a movie that you keep meaning to see but just haven't gotten around to it: Hate to say this. Really do. Casablanca. Yeah, I've never seen it. I keep meaning to. :(
14. Ever walked out of a movie?: None that I can recall. Nothing's been so bad that I just couldn't stand to see anymore.
15. Name a movie that made you cry: Grrrfff. There have been several, but I can't remember them at the moment.
16. Popcorn?: Not as often as I used to eat it. I really have to be hungry, and even then, I usually eat most of it before the movie starts.
17. How often do you go to the movies?: At least once a month, sometimes twice.
18. What's the last movie you saw in the theatre?: Riddick. It was pretty good, though I wonder if they're ever going to make a sequel to it. The ending just screamed, 'We're not done yet!'.
19. What is your favorite/preferred genre of movie?: Action/thriller If there's a bodycount, I'm usually going to be there. :D
20. What was the first movie you remember seeing in the theatre?: While I distinctly remember seeing the original Star Wars in the theaters, I don't remember doing so until later in the summer. So I'm going to go with a movie that came out a few weeks later, but I remember seeing right as it came out. And that's Disney's, "The Rescuers".
