Be an art critic!
Posted 15 years agoAnother FC gone!
Posted 15 years agoBack from FC, and what a con! Sales were surprisingly brisk, despite the fact that I had not completed any new books on time. So everything of mine was at least 6 months old. Despite that, we nearly sold out of all copies of issues 1 and 2 of Profiles. Heathen City #2 was a good seller as well, and I have received more feedback regarding the continuation of Wanderer #3 (of course). More on that in a bit.
I needed this con. Cons are always an ego boost, and this one was especially so. After several RL issues cropping up, including losing my job and a lot of personal stress, this con helped me understand that I am an artist first, and always will be, no matter what I might do to pay the bills. Furthermore, I feel that I really am respected and loved in the fandom, and that is a great feeling. I felt like somebody again.
Case in point: I met Kyell Gold, and he is familiar with The Wanderer!!
Now I have no more excuses. I have to finish the series, and never stop using the gifts given to me.
Thanks to everyone here on FA and who attended FC this year. It really means a lot to me to know I have such wonderful friends and fans.
On the drawing desk: PROFILES issue 3. Keep your eyes peeled for more announcements soon!

"Submission Deleted by User"
Posted 16 years agoAre people really deleting pictures from their galleries? Why does it have to show an ugly icon with "Submission Deleted by User", and you don't even know what the picture used to be?
Does anyone else find this annoying?

Preparing for AC
Posted 16 years agoAfter a lot of going back and forth, and warring with myself, I finally took the plunge and made prepartions to go to Anthrocon 2009. It will mark the first time I've been back to AC since 2004, and it'll be awesome to be back! I've missed a lot of my friends, from out that way, and it'll allow me to check out new art coming out that don't make it to the West.
I will not have my own table this year; however, I can be found at FurPlanet's table, promoting the second issue of Heathen City. I'll be available to sign copies of the book, as well as doing sketches, and if I am able to, badges. Furplanet will be at tables A16. A17 and A18; a map of the dealer's den can be found here: http://www.anthrocon.org/dealer/map
I am so looking forward to this con, and seeing all of you. While you're there, why not help support me by picking up a copy of Heathen City #2, and maybe ordering a sketch or two?
The great Krahnos Comeback is beginning!
Now back to Profiles Issue 3, long overdue...

Furry Connection North, here I come!
Posted 16 years agoI AM going to Furry Connection North! Travel arrangements are made, and plans are set. I've not been to the con before, and enough people have convinced me to make time in my schedule to go. I will not be going as an artist, however, I am going to have a good time and see old friends. BUT... if convinced, I *might* do a sketch or two, here and there. ;)
My weekend
Posted 16 years agoTonight, I got drunk with some of my bandmates!
So here's the setup. Our band, the Ohlone Wind Orchestra, was invited to play as the featured guest at a wind band festival in Fresno, CA. We decided to charter a bus to transport us and our stuff to Fresno, a 3 hour ride. The ride down was pretty dull, really, and once we were there, was the usual hassle of setting up equipment and getting things ready for our performance. While we were there, I got to see some really good performances from CA college bands, and I had a good time. Then we got to perform at 8, in full tuxedo and everything, and it was awesome. There wer a few hiccups during the performance, but we brought the house down. Then we witnessed the house band's performance, and they did a kick-ass rendition of Pines of Rome.. really incredible. But my favorite part of the eveing came afterward, during the bus ride home.
I remember a question one band member asked during the dress rehearsal: "Are we allowed to bring alcoholic drinks on the bus?"
Our director's response? "The safest answer for me is: Don't ask, don't tell."
And so that left open the door for the almost full bar we had at the back of the bus, courtesy of one saxaphone player. Those darn saxes! And it was one of the most incredible bonding experiences with band mates in my life.
I'm still buzzed. It was massive fun, and I hope we can do it again real soon.

So long Furp...
Posted 16 years agoBack in the snowy winters of 1997, in the outskirts of Toronto, I met a wonderful person: Furp. Great sense of humor, warm, kind, and good-looking as hell, I spent a weekend with him, Dracon and Chronos. We all spent the weekend, hanging out and doing whatever, had a wonderful time. I even drew a couple of dragons having wild gay sex on his back in semi-permanant marker! I still have that picture somewhere...
Last night, a horrible thing happened, and because of a drunk marine, Furp was taken from us.
http://www.insidesocal.com/news247/.....n-twentyn.html
It isn't fair, and it isn't right. We had drifted apart a bit, only seeing him occassionally at a con, or saying hello online. I didn't keep very good contact. It's true what they say, you can't take anything for granted, and you never know what you really have until you lose it.
Poor Furp... he really, really deserved much better than this; taken away at such a young age. So much energy, passion, and potential... Now the world will never know.
Rest in peace, my good friend. Until we meet again.

MFF roommates
Posted 17 years agoMFF!!
Posted 17 years agoI'm getting things ready for my trip to MFF... Yay!! My first MFF in over four years, ever since I moved out to CA. It's been difficult to get back out east for these cons, between work, money and simply affording the time, it's a special treat for me, and one that I'm really looking forward to.
I've held off on making any official announcement of my attendance for several reasons, one is that I wasn't sure I would even get to go at all, and two, this is my relax-a-con.. meaning I'm not dealing. I'm there to have some fun and to recharge the artistic batteries, see what other artists are doing, see old friends, etc. It is my intention to use my MFF experience this year to rekindle the muse, so I can hunker down over the next two months and get things ready for FC!
Looking forward to seeing everyone there! If anyone wants to get a hold of me there, email me and I'll give you my cell phone number.

Our CD is out!
Posted 17 years agoGreetings all! The CD my band, the Ohlone Wind Orchestra, has worked on with trumpet player Mike Vax has just been released! Available from Summit Records, the CD, "Vaxuosity", features Mike performing alongside my band, with whom I play percussion. It is conceived as a "summer concert in the park" kind of experience, with a varied program including jazz, classical, and modern concert band repetoire.
It is available through Amazon.com, but if the CD is purchased through the band's website, the Ohlone Wind Orchestra will receive a percentage of the proceeds, which goes towards supporting the band. Since we are non-profit, music purchases and operating expenses are paid through donations, concert proceeds and CD sales. So if you like classical/jazz and want to help out a community band, please help out by purchasing Vaxuosity from this site:

RIP Movie Trailer Voice Man
Posted 17 years agoI just learned that one of the most recognizable voice over artists in the industry, Mr. Don LaFontaine, has died at 68 years of age. You may not know the name, but you know the voice... "In a world where..."
Very, very sad. Sad Krahnos! The man had an incredible voice, and was a great human being besides, and movie trailers simply won't be the same without him. *lifts drink* Here's to celebrating the life and career of a great entertainer.
Rest in Peace, Don.

Still here!!
Posted 17 years agoDon't worry folks, I'm still alive! I apologize for being somewhat quiet on here, I have several large projects I'm working on in addition to existing commissions to finish. With AC coming up, even though I'm not able to go, I still have deadlines to observe for projects that *are* scheduled for release there.
New commissions are on a temporary hold until next month, after I have a chance to get caught up. After that, I'll be open again for commissions, including badges and character art.
Thanks all for being so patient with me! *hugs to all*

Life sucks sometimes
Posted 18 years agoSo my perfectly made plans for AC might now be upset by my company, who wants to make me work a lame-ass tradeshow the same weekend.
On the one hand, I can understand the desire to grow the business in the Bay Area, outside of So Cal where the company started and thrives, but to lay this bombshell on me the same day that I make all of my plans, 8 months out, to see my friends and enjoy myself, is REALLY low. Needless to say, I'm going to be very irritated that entire weekend.
