considering selling my pig fursuit
Posted 9 years agoAs the title says, due to some cashflow issues I'm thinking of (reluctantly) selling my Bushpig fursuit, as seen here
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/10771057/
I'm 5'11" and about 220lbs in those pics and the body is roomy on me even then as it's designed to be easy to wear, so it should fit almost anyone (though smaller folks might need to make some adjustments). UK Size 10 feet. wondering if anyone would be interested?

furbuy was misbehaving when I was doing the upload and for some reason the thumbnail isn't displaying on the regular listings, even though it's in the front page gallery. As such I'm losing out on clickthroughs from the fursuit list page, and I'd really appreciate it if anyone reading this who likes the suit or thinks someone they know might be interested could spread it around through FA and social media

Custom G4 pony commission: special introductory offer
Posted 12 years agohey all
Managed to get a G4 Rarity and a Rainbow Dash for super cheap, so I'm offering up two "name your species/character" commissions for the low-low price of £20 each. This includes a custom sculpted tail and head-piece to cover the hair rooting holes/stubble, as I don't have the synthetic hair in stock for mane re rooting. Sculpting will be done with apoxie sculpt, repainting with acrylic miniature paints and the model will receive a coat of gloss varnish to seal it and prevent chipping. The head should not be turned on the finished pony as the paint and varnish locks it in place and attempting to turn it will likely mess up the paint job
example here on a fluttershy base
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/11301273/
What would be suitable? Just about any bird or feathery-winged critter especially those with crests or manes, most mammals, most mammalian characters (lion king etc), plenty of other critters. Custom hair sculpts for original characters which do NOT closely resemble ponies from the TV show
What is NOT suitable? Custom hair sculpts to match the show, or similar to the show for original characters. There are already folks out there who make amazing modular resin hair pieces for your ponies and I cannot match them in quality of accuracy, so don't ask me to try. Super complex characters which would require complete resculpts (stormtroopers, Master Chief, Alien, fully clothed human characters, mermaid tails, anything requiring leg or neck lengthening), I can do these but not for £20.
These are the standard "brushable" G4 ponies standing around 3" at the top of the head. Postage will be extra and at cost, they're pretty small and light so it shouldn't be more than a couple of pounds in the UK and a few more overseas.
Prefer a G3 or G1? I'll be getting some bait eventually for these but I don't have any currently. Rather have a G4 Earth Pony base? That I can do no problem. For blindbags, see separate price list here
If you're interested, reply in the comments with either the name of a species/character or a link to reference art. Not first come first served, if enough people are interested I'll pick the ones I think I can do a good job on and which will work in my portfolio. For named species and characters I'll use my judgement to come up with a good design that works with the simple shapes of the pony but is still recognisable. For OCs with art, I'll do my best to follow the concept drawing (just remember the caveats about show-like hair)

PONIES WANTED (UK)! G4 custom bait and unwanted blindbags
Posted 12 years ago've decided to do a few more custom blindbags and G4 ponies, so I'm in need of bait. I'm happy to pay the equivalent of £1.50 per blindbag including postage (since I can get them brand new for under £2) and £3 per G4 pony. Mane/Tail hair and paintjob can be in any condition but I do ask that there be no major damage the the plastic itself (though if you have any completely mangled ponies I still might be able to find a use for them, just at a lower price)
I can also do barter, send me ponies to the equivalent value of this pricesheet http://www.furaffinity.net/full/8238883/ and I'll repaint one to your specifications and send it back. For G4s, I don't do hair rerooting yet but I DO do custom sculpts over the removed hair areas as seen here http://www.furaffinity.net/view/11301273/, a custom job like this would require 8-10 G4s to be sent to cover my time and materials. I don't do show-accurate hair sculpts, there are other people who already do this far better than I ever could.
The barter offer is just UK people right now since with international shipping there's little point sending this stuff overseas. If you live somewhere other than the UK and want to order a custom blindbag or G4 just let me know and we can sort out payment the regular way.

Open for one toony FOAM HEADBASE commission
Posted 12 years agohey y'all, just to let you know I'm opening for one foam headbase commission, toony style.
You'll receive one foam headbase on a fleece balaclava with a foam "helmet" back/sides. Static jaw. Includes ears if desired, does not include eyes, nose, mouth-lining, horns or other finishing. This is JUST the foam and the glue holding it all together, all detailing, furring, cutting eye holes etc is up to you. Examples here http://www.furaffinity.net/view/9496069/ and here http://www.furaffinity.net/view/7765902/ (ignore the placeholder eyes), these demonstrate the level of finish you can expect and you can see the completed pieces made on those bases in my gallery too
Price is £125 (GBP), not including postage. Exact postage will depend on weight and size, shipping from the UK, unfortunately I don't have any examples to take to the post office for a price estimate, likely to be under £10 in the UK, more in the EU and a lot more to the rest of the world.
Turnaround should be fairly quick, I hope to be done before the end of August and certainly before the end of September. All cash required up front (bar postage), so don't send art if you don't have the money.
Note me with high quality 3 view concept art that closely matches how you want the base to look, I'll let the person I pick know and take down this journal within a couple of days.

Sewing machine help!
Posted 12 years agouuuuurgh, my sewing machine is on the blink.
Anyone here who's good with sewing machines? I mean really REALLY good, because my problem is very specific and I've ruled out the usual suspects (tension, popped springs, misthreaded bobbins).
Basically, the feed dogs, the little serrated plates under the foot that move up and down and back and forth to pull fabric through the machine as it's sewn, have decided to start misbehaving. When I set the stitch to 4mm (the max on my machine), they move the fabric maybe 1mm, so my stitches are incredibly close together. But that's only half the problem, the big issue is that I mostly use the triple/stretch stitch, which moves the fabric forward AND backwards in turn using the feed dogs so each stitch is gone over multiple times, so it can stretch without popping a seam. The problem is, the forward stitches are half the length they should be, but the backwards ones are the full proper length, so when it tries to go two stitches forward then one stitch back, the needle just keeps going over and over the same spot
I've spent about two hours poking around inside the bloody thing with a screwdriver and I cannot work out what the cause of problem is, nothing seems to have snapped or bent. All I can think is that something within the stitch length setting mechanism has slipped and turning the dial to 4 isn't actually moving the appropriate mechanical parts as far as it should (there's an angled bar/cam mechanism that moves when you turn the dial and when you push it to set the reverse stitch), but I can't even get into that part of the machine, it's hidden really damn well and I'd have to strip it completely, something I'm not confident I could bring it back from. It's an old Janome/New Home 632 if that means anything to anyone, I'm talking OLD, like circa 1970 or something. Until today it was working great
I know it's pretty specific, I'm mostly just venting and I'll take it to be repaired next week. Still and absolute pain, and if it can't be fixed an identical replacement is gonna be a bugger to find given it's age.

Whatever happened to Avsun Studios?
Posted 12 years agoWhatever happened with Avsun?
Remember? They were fursuit makers who were a married couple, then weren't, and kept missing deadlines and ripping people off, and when they did deliver suits they fell apart straight out of the box. Just wondering if anyone knows what's going on, I didn't have any personal stake with them but I followed the saga pretty closely and left a lot of (ultimately fruitless) comments. Interested to know if anyone got work from them, or refunds, or even know what either of them are doing. Not going to do anything, just curious.

Question on materials for all small scale/detail sculptors
Posted 13 years agoI have several different potential materials on hand for making the positives which will eventually be moulded, cast and become resin doll parts. I was wondering if I could share my thoughts and ask what peoples thoughts were on the options, from personal experience
1) WED clay. Very cheap, easy to use, safe and water based. Does not require foil core for busts or limbs. Has trouble with capturing super fine detail as it is water based. Cracks when dry so time sensitive in terms of making the mould. Requires sealing
2) Chavant Belle Touche. Reasonably priced, reuseable, does not require sealing. Non drying so risk of damaging sculpt during mold making (can be mitigated by chilling sculpt to make it tougher). Adequate detail capture but can be hard to do smooth surfaces. Does not need foil core
3) Super Sculpey. Somewhat expensive. Excellent detail capture. Generally requires foil core due to price. I don't know if it's reclaimable (ie, if a cast can be taken without baking), if not, neither the clay nor the base can be reused. If baked, can be sanded for smooth surfaces. Brittle and weak
4) Apoxie Sculpt, milliput and other 2 part putties. Very expensive, limited working time. Good detail capture, slow drying nature allows different textures to be applied at different stages of drying. Stronger than Super Sculpey. Non cracking, can be worked with water.
at the moment, I'm leaning towards 1 and 2 for positives, mainly for cost. I'd like to use Super Sculpey more but I'm put off by the expense and inconvenience of having to bake. So anyone's personal experiences and opinions would be very welcome

need small scale sculpting practice, hit me up with designs!
Posted 13 years agoExactly what it says on the tin. I want to get into small-medium scale sculpting (action figure type scale, not miniatures) but I'm useless at the design side, so I'm looking for character designs to use as practice. Looking for stuff in the more realistic end of things, or at least stylized. Lots of craggy crenelations and interesting shapes, so monsters, snarly animals and so on.
Anything I produce the owner of the design will at least get pics of and may get the final piece if it's made in the appropriate materials, I'd just ask for postage. I want to practice in WED clay and Chavant which do not dry to a useable finish, and Super Sculpey which can be made permenant and painted. As usual, no guarantees no promises, I'm notoriously flakey with this kind of thing but I DO promise I won't use any design for personal gain other than improving my skills and you will be fully credited in uploads

Auction: Blue Werewolf by Xaerael
Posted 13 years agoSo last week I linked you to my friends new FA, this week I'm following up by pimping an auction he has running. It's a really cool and unusual blue werewolf suit, and includes a bunch of extras in the form of pieces of armour, clothing and strapping to really make the character stand out in a crowd.

As you can see it's a striking suit and still at a fantastic price. The head is brand new and only worn for one event, the body and parts are a bit older but still in great condition. Here's a chance to get your hands on a cool looking suit at a really low cost.

commission slot opening in next week or so (I hope)
Posted 13 years agoMy commission list is almost cleared, so I'm planning to reopen soon. Kinda.
As I said in a journal a while back, I'm not good at keeping to deadlines made too far in advance. So for this project I want to try something different. I'm looking to take on ONE commission, for a head or partial only, at a flat price, for very fast turnaround (probably within a month or two from receipt of the downpayment). If this works, I'll keep working in this way, one project at a time with very quick delivery times since it will be the only thing I'm working on with zero queue. I know this makes it hard for the *customer* to plan, but it's the only thing I can think of to overcome my abysmal time management track record.
Hopefully this will prove to be a more appropriate way of working for me. I do a lot of non fursuit projects as well as my commissions and in the past it's been very tough to juggle everything and also plan in advance. I'd like if this new system allows a bit more flexibility without the need to try to plan out many months head and run a high risk of schedules slipping.
I'll post a well marked commission journal with full details at the time, I'll also post a submission for people who don't read journals and make an LJ post. If anyone is interested remember I need good CONCEPT ART. It'll be an anything goes commission, if (as I hope) I get a reasonable number of applications I'll pick the project I think I can do the best job with, be it toony, realistic or anything in between.

On holiday
Posted 13 years agoGoing off on a trip tomorrow, first to see family for a couple of days, then to Scotland to plant trees for a week, then hill walking for another 2 weeks, then Scotiacon. Understandably I'm not going to be easy to reach for most of that time so don't expect replies to notes or comments from Thursday onwards, I'm effectively AFK.
Gormenghast characters
Posted 13 years agoI hope someone on here has read and/or watched Gormenghast or this journal is going to be a bit pointless.
Anyway, for a personal project I want to come up with appropriate anthropomorphic of all the major characters from the first two Gormenghast novels. I've come up with a few, got some others I'm not sure about and some I'm completely stumped
easy:
Gertrude (the countess): Bison. bulk, sense of quiet strength which is frightening if roused, the constantly attending birds put one in mind of cattle egrets and oxpeckers, massive mound of curly hair. This is probably the one I'm most certain of
Swelter (the chef): Pig. Hard to argue with. probably a domestic breed with great rolls of fat and mean little tusks.
Prunesuqallor (The Doctor): Zebra. He's frequently drawn and described as horsy, and I like the standing up striped hairdo the TV series used for him, plus the striped zebra puts one more in mind of the fussy vanity inherent in the character than a regular horse would.
Bellgrove (the headmaster): Lion. Again the descriptions in the book leave very little room for anything else, the word Leonine is used more than once.
Harder:
Steerpike (the Usurper): I'm not sure on this, he's cunning and malicious so perhaps a fox, or a weasel. Perhaps an ermine, or maybe a mongoose, the smaller mustelids seem appropriate. A rat might work too, or even a monkey.
Flay (the mansearvant): tall, angular and immensely loyal, but ungroomed and ragged. For the loyalty and servitude, a dog is the natural choice, for physical reasons a wolfhound seems to fit better than anything else.
Irma Prunesquallor (the doctors sister): I'm thinking a long necked somewhat goofy looking bird, or possibly a gazelle of some kind.
Fuisha Groan: I'm drawn to a bear for this one. Sorta hard to pin down, but she's big in stature and emotion, broad of face, but desperately lonely and unable to fit in. A solitary brooding bear seems to fit.
Lord Sepulcrave: I think I'm locked into an Owl for this simply because of what happens with his story. If not then it has to be a mournful animal, but very slightly built. A dog breed doesn't really work because of their association with servitude. A tortoise?
Barquentine/sourdust (keepers of the Lore): diminutive, ornery, bearded. a bad tempered little terrier works for this I think but I'm open to ideas.
Pretty much no idea:
Titus: he's ostensiably the main character but buggered if I know how to fit his character to an animal. Earl by birth, yearning for a freedom he is not allowed, desperate for escape. Young (late teens by the end of the second book), fairly skinny. I'm open to ideas really.
The Thing: symbolic of freedom and self determination, a wild-girl who lives in the forests and is glimpsed in the tree tops. Speed, acrobatics, athleticism, anarchy, disrespect, danger, freedom.
Cora and Clarice Groan (the Twins): identical twins with less than one brain between them. Single minded, dull witted, resentful, petty. And apparently very hard to fit to an animal.
Nannie Slagg (the Nurse): tiny, frail, quavering. Always in a flap. described as bird like a lot but I'm not sure I could make that work, birds are hard to project emotions onto.
I think that's it for the main cast. Even if you haven't read the books or seen an adaptation, any inspirations that come to you based on my descriptions would be most appreciated
