We went to our first Insane Clown Posse Show!
General | Posted 3 months agoWent to my first Insane Clown Posse show with
AshleyFableBlack last week! It was so fun! there was wrasslin', music, Faygo showers, cool swag, and I got whacked in the face and foot by flying soda bottles (which was fun, no sarcasm!) We were very wet and sticky from being soaked in soda. I got lots of neat swag and discovered another new rapper I like too, "Wakko the Kid"!
https://youtu.be/-KwP5GdoED8
Saw these guys during the JCW matches, there were so many cool wrestlers! Some of my favorite ones were these guys and also CoCaine and Big Tony. š
It should also be noted that is actually the first wrestling even I ever intended, and it was a blast! I'm glad there are fun wrestling events out there that are separated from the douchebag vince mcmahon. Now I find myself hoping I can see Stirdust in the ring sometime, but I'm not sure where they do their wrestling matches.

The Faygo break song they did a few times was catchy as hell too. š

Quite a week so far!
General | Posted a year agoIt's been an interesting week.
On Thursday,
AshleyFableBlack and I were at the gym, ready to do our usual jogging. We were talking about how we wish folks just leave each-other alone when it comes to religion and such, and let everyone do their own thing. As we were talking, some guy with a bike came in and must have taken offense because the next 20-30 minutes consisted of him picking verbal fights with us, throwing out all kinda racist, sexist, homophobic nonsense, pushing christianity on us, calling us stupid, racist and comparing us to pedophiles. Real charming fella.
Oh yeah! Ashley just reminded of another humorous point - as the "conversation" wound down, he started backpedaling, insisting that he "didn't really care" - even though he was the one who had started picking a fight with us. *snickers*
Thankfully it never escalated to anything physical and we just left after were done jogging. I later warned the building owners about him and tried to give a good description so they can keep an out to see if he harasses anyone else. Hopefully it won't happen again.
Last night, after work, had a more pleasant adventure. I got in from work, tired and sore, and my wife bein' the sweetheart that she is decided to order me a big yummy pizza - extra cheese and buffalo sauce, one of my faves! We walked up to the pizza place to pick it up, and a couple of fellows there said they liked my trans pride t shirt. *smiles*
We walked back home, and found out...neither of us had our keys! After feeling foolish for a bit, we decided to make the best of the situation and just enjoy the night, as it wasn't terribly chilly yet. We sat on the porch, eating our yummy pizzas, and enjoying the coziness. As were about done eating, one of the fellas who had complimented my shirt at the pizza place approached us! He gave us a bag of candy goodies and explained that he was actually a neighbor across the street! We talked for a while and we exchanged phone numbers, so I'm hoping we can all hang out sometime. I'm excited at the possibility of making some new friends (also the fellow in question makes fursuits, cool)!

Sound Design!
General | Posted a year agoI've gotten most of the currently needed textures and models done for Unlucky, so over the past few weeks I've been getting back into the world of sound design, which has been very fun, though challenging.
A few years ago I bought myself a Zoom H1n portable sound recorder after joining Dark Ark Studios, figuring it would be good for both recording dialogue and sound effects. I've started exploring my local area, finding interesting sounds to record and learning more about how to loop and modify sounds with Audacity. Living in a busy college town, it can be difficult to get clean recordings as there are cars, people, AC units, etc all over the place (I do so envy sound designers who live in rural areas, must be nice). Wind noise on the microphones can be another big problem too, but I've ordered an add-on for my recorder that will hopefully cut down on that (though it's gonna take 1-2 months for it to arrive, argh). These are apparently nicknamed "dead cats" which is fucked up, I would rather call them something like a "microphone fluffy" as
AshleyFableBlack suggested.
So far I've managed to get some insect and bird sounds, a thunderstorm, water, and some Foley sounds of objects. My most proud work yet is the lava ambience I made yesterday by mixing sounds of boiling water, frying food, and me blowing into milk and a bowl of oatmeal with a straw. Lots of editing later and I got myself a cool lava sound that I'm quite proud of. :)

Starting to do recordings of Penumbra Ambience!
General | Posted 2 years agoI can't recall if I've ever mentioned my YouTube channel much here, but I've been working on it for quite a while now. Most of it is various videos of old video game things, obscure game soundtracks, videos about my creations/mods, and a lot of video game ambience recordings!
The project I've recently started on, at the request of a commenter, is recording ambience from the Penumbra horror series by Frictional Games!
I've got two done so far:

My Winter Marketplace Adventure!
General | Posted 2 years agoThis is a month late, but I wanted to post about my little adventure last month in town.
I like looking online for events to attend. I'm very much a homebody, but I like to push myself outside my comfort zone by attending social events so I can experience new places and people.
This can be tricky in December, as I don't celebrate christmas, but almost every local event seems to be christmas-related. However, I did find one - a local Winter Market Event. I set out to attend during the afternoon, and sadly it was a rainy day. The parking downtown is a shit show, everything is paid parking which makes me anxious. I found myself a shitty parking spot, wrestling with the payment machine - while being rained on - and headed towards the event building. I'm glad the marketplace was hosted inside, so I could have some time to dry off.
The marketplace itself was pretty nice. There were a lot of folks selling clothes. The first vendor I visited was a pair of gals selling lots of LGBTQ merch. I bought a "can't pray us away" shirt for
AshleyFableBlack and I. They've got a website here: https://ptsfeminist.com/
Next I found an gal selling her art. She has two really pretty pieces of paintings on carved wood - a fox and skunk. I bought both of them and she seemed really happy someone wanted to buy her art, so I was glad I came by. :)
Her online artist name is "Rising Goddess Art", she has an etsy page here: https://www.etsy.com/shop/RisingGoddessART
Lastly, I found a fellow selling some old games. They were pretty pricey, so I just picked one out - Need for Speed Underground 2. I was later a bit troubled by this purchase, as it was about 40 bucks but came with no manual and the disc looks scratched up as hell. I hope it actually works. I am baffled by how some people treat their game discs so horribly...
After leaving the market, I was feeling pretty hungry. There was food trucks right outside that I really wanted to get some fries from, but with it raining, I passed them up as soggy french fries didn't sound very appetizing.
I walked back toward where I parked next to one of my favorite local clothing stores "Cheap Thrills" https://www.facebook.com/Cheapthrillsnwa/ This is a very gay, colorful and good-sized clothing store with all sorts of neat vintage and used clothes. I found a nice sweatshirt and bought it before leaving.
Lastly, I was on the hunt for some macaroon cookies. I was surprised that I hadn't been able to find any at Harps earlier, but I did find out there was a local business selling some - Alchemy Macaroons. http://www.alchemymacarons.com/ I followed the google maps directions to find the place, but kept getting lost. Did I mention that downtown Fayetteville is a mess to navigate? I ended up finding an underground tunnel with a flower shop in it, which was pretty neat (brought back memories of the old flower shop I used to work in), before coming back up to the street level and finally finding the little cookie shop.
it had big glass doors and a stark white interior. Nobody was around, but there was a service bell that I rung, and a nice lady came out to sell me a pack of macaroons. I waited til I got home to try one, as I didn't want soggy cookies. They were quite tasty and worth the trouble.

An interesting thing about the internet
General | Posted 2 years agoOne interesting thing about the internet is getting to be able to interact with artists and creatives you admire. In my case, I've gotten to have nice exchanges with certain video game soundtrack composers.
Grant Kirkhope once responded to a comment of mine on a video of himself dancing to Banjo Kazooie music, saying he was glad he was able to brighten my day with his dance. š
When I was posting the soundtrack for Xbox game Lucidity on my Youtube, the composer Jesse Harlin himself reached out to me and helped me get all the track titles right!
Most recently, I've had an odd one - I ordered a copy of the Quake 3 album "Arena Noize" from Sonic Mayhem's website. Some timing and postal issues have been delaying the arrival of the CD, but the bright side of this was the Sascha Dikiciyan himself (a composer for Quake 2 and 3 along many other games) e-mailed me and has been helping me get the issues sorted out. Was not expecting such an honor, that was cool. š

Covid and recovery
General | Posted 3 years agoI got covid a couple weeks ago and it really sucked. Doing considerably better now, thankfully. Still have a cough, throat still sometimes hurts after sleeping, but my body seems to be doing well otherwise. Been playing Animal Crossing and Super Mario Sunshine, and working on some new art, too!
Our Xbox One has been crapping out for a while, so I've been wanting to get us an Xbox One X (with the disc drive). I'm hoping the newer model will work better for Minecraft and stuff, and I want to be able to run that new S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 game when it comes out. (I just hope it doesn't suck, as there are some very big douchey "AAA" red flags about the new game...)

Flash Drive Troubles
General | Posted 3 years agoDoes anybody have advice for when a flash drive just suddenly decides it is read-only? I've tried several guides online and nothing has helped. I'm using Windows 10 64-Bit. I figured that before I just buy a new flash drive I would ask around here.
Things I've already tried:
-formatting it through windows explorer, wouldn't let me
- formatting it through the disk part command
- removing the write protection through a registry edit
- checking for any sort of physical lock switch
- looking for individual files that were read-only (I found some, but I can't remove the read-only status from them though the right-click menu. This is probably the best clue as to my problem as this problem started at some point when i put some mp3s into a folder so I can use the flash drive to play music on the Xbox One. Apparently one or more of those mp3s were read-only and may have been what made the flash drive shit itself)

"Arkansas Nerd Breakfast" Recipe!
General | Posted 3 years agoI made a weird food thing today and it turned out tasty so I wanted to share my recipe!
I was looking at recipe for something called "Tuscan Farmers Breakfast" but the recipe didn't specify cook times, quantities or any preparations. Also some of the ingredients it mentioned were fancy-sounding things that I had no idea how to find at the grocery store.
So!
Instead I gathered up a can of Bushes sweet heat baked beans, a can of harps best choice leaf spinach, some olive oil, vegan "beef" crumbles, and put those on the counter. Then I made some scrambled eggs with lots of butter, salt and pepper, and mixed aaaaall the stuff together in a bowl, microwaved it, and it came out pretty tasty!
(I forgot to add - get some sort of bread to sop up the bean goop with, too!)
Edit: Here's a photo! https://imgur.com/gallery/BtSd1P4

Sonic Nebulous Game Review
General | Posted 3 years agoSonic Nebulous is a free Sonic fan game that I discovered through a youtube video featuring such games. It is a side scrolling plat-former set in the SatAM universe, hence itās darker visual style.
One of the first noticeable things about the game is that it features all hand-drawn characters, which definitely shows it to be a labor of love and help it stand out. The graphics overall, are quite nice, with only occasional animation issues. And speaking of characters, this game could put many fighting games to shame with its character roster! The game features a whopping 30 characters from various Sonic universes (games, Satam, Underground, Archie and possibly some fan-made characters too!) As a teenager I had started making my own Sonic comic series where I tried together all these different versions of Sonic into one universe, so I liked seeing this game do similar. Many of the characters have unique abilities which helped me a lot playing through the game - any time Iād find myself struggling on a given zone, Iād try out different characters til I found one that helped me get by whatever obstacle was bugging me. I also found it cool that you can even play as some older characters (Uncle Chuck and Rosie, specifically). The enemy designs were pretty cool, some pulled right from the SatAM show, with others being some very spooky boss monsters who often looked they might be old neglected robots Robotnik had left laying around,
The gameās soundtrack, while Iām pretty sure is all pulled from other sources, is a solid selection of tunes. I find it reminiscent of how SEGA did Sonic Adventure 2ās soundtrack, with some of its funky hip-hop tracks. I recognized tunes from some electronic artists I really like such as Aphex Twin, The Prodigy and The KLF. These helped enhance the dark fantasy/steampunk feel of the world further.
The sound effects were also well-done, but I did have mixed feelings about the voice clips used in the game. It was cool to hear some characters talk, using audio clips from SatAM, but early on in the game I found some voices annoyingly repetitive and was glad I could turn them off (Antoine was the worst culprit for me).
Speaking of turning things on and off, the game thankfully does have a decent options menu, though I do wish it would save my settings so I didnāt have to re-set them each time I launched the game or got a game over. One of the gameās graphical features is screen-rotation when you go around loops and slopes, which is technically interesting, but I played with it turned off because it made me feel disoriented.
While I really dug all the nerdy Sonic love that was put into this game, it does have some technical issues that I hope will get ironed out in a future update. To get this game to run I had to launch it from steam, as the executable by itself kept giving me an error message. While playing as the character āHoney The Catā, I once had her freeze in place after doing an aerial dash attack and was unable to move. The fact that some of the gameās controls require the use of F1-F12 keys was problematic for me as well, as my laptop has those set as system shortcut keys by default. I think it would help to add a controller configuration menu added to the options menu.
There were a couple of general design choices that troubled me as well. When you first start the game, youāre already being attacked by an enemy, which was stressful for me because I hadnāt even gotten to learn the controls yet. In the first zone thereās also a certain slope that is extremely difficult to get up over, unless youāre playing as someone who can fly or teleport. Lastly, I would occasionally experience frustration in enemy combat because the game lacks invincibility frames after taking damage (which were present in SEGAās official 16-bit releases), and with the big boss enemies, I couldnāt always tell what parts were and werenāt safe to touch.
I recommend this one, especially for any Sonic fans, or anyone who likes side-scrolling platformers with a badass soundtrack. It may have a few flaws, but nothing was game-breaking for me - and there was so much love put into the game that Iād like to see it get more attention. If youād like to give it a try, you can download the game here:

(Note: I would have added more screenshots and art but tumblr is only letting me add one to this post for some reason. So, I wanted to at-least add a link to this image at the end of the review https://www.deviantart.com/ashuraka.....Back-118015451 )

Pride Month Charity/Fundraiser List
General | Posted 3 years agoTime to wipe some dust off of my FA profile again! I hope y'all have been doing well and staying safe out there.
This last Pride Month I had been gathering and sharing charities to help out LGBT folks during pride month on some social media sites, and looking at my FA page, I thought I'd go ahead and compile them all (assuming it all fits in one journal) here, too. Please donate and/or share the list if you can, to help some folks out!

Amnesia Bundle Review (Xbox One)
General | Posted 3 years agoThis may be my first time attempting a review of a compilation rather than an individual game, and what a great little compilation it is!
Amnesia the Dark Descent is a horror game that I was really excited about when it was first announced, as it was made by the same developers who made Penumbra Overture and Penumbra Black Plague, both of which I had played with some friends when I was younger and really loved. But like many games I am interested in, it took me forever to make time for actually playing the darn thing. But Iām glad I did!
(spoiler warnings here, I will discuss the story-lines of the three campaigns)
All 3 games follow a different protagonist in their own story. In The Dark Descent, you play as Daniel, whom as the title suggests, has given himself Amnesia in order to forget something that broke his mind. In Justine, you start off seeming like a prisoner who is escaping from a dungeon, making your way through a series of trials. Lastly, in a Machine For Pigs, you play as a wealthy man named Mandus, whom awakens in his house with his children missing and sets out to find them. To avoid any major spoilers, I donāt give away the twists for any characterās story, but I do feel that the narrative for both Justine or A Machine For Pigs were pretty confusing when playing through them - I ended up having to look up their stories on the Amnesia wiki to make full sense of what was going on (especially on Machineās story). That said, all three stories do still maintain a great, chilling atmosphere all the way.
As a side note and small spoiler for Justine, the gameās trials consist of both solving puzzles and deciding whether or not to rescue or spare people that you find imprisoned. one of the characters you can kill or save is a priest. Iām tempted to revisit that particular campaign just to do a play-through where I kill him, just for that.
(spoilers end here)
As for how the three campaigns play, theyāre all pretty similar but some of the core features are changed or removed in Justine and A Machine For Pigs. You will move through your environments scavenging for items, exploring and solving puzzles in order to progress the story. There is no means of fighting any enemies, you simply have to avoid them! Coming to this trilogy from Penumbra, I felt right at home with the game-play but a new feature that isnāt in Penumbra is the sanity system. Whenever you lingered in dark areas or witnessed disturbing things, your sanity level would decrease. I like this mechanic a lot because it added anxiety even when moving through areas that had no enemies. All enemies counted as disturbing sights too, which discouraged the player from looking directly at them - this is a brilliant idea as well, pushing players to maintain their fear of the unknown (and also being why I found it pretty obnoxious that so many YouTube thumbnails for the games show the monsters in plain sight). In normal mode, losing your sanity will cause hallucinations, warped vision and eventually a panic attack that makes it hard to move. In Hard Mode, losing all your sanity will just have you be literally scared to death. Thankfully, in either difficulty, you can also heal your sanity by solving puzzles or relaxing in well-lit areas for a while.
Another interesting mechanic the game has (that is shares with Penumbra as well) is what I like to call āphysics based object interactionā. By that I donāt just mean you can push and knock things around, but that when you operate things like dresser drawers, doors, machinery, etc you have to use a button to grip it and then push things around with the analogue stick. I mostly like the way this control style feels, it makes things more immersive, but just as in Penumbra, it occasionally would make things awkward during a chase sequence.
As I mentioned before, there are some game-play changes in each story. In the main story, you could play in Normal or Hard Mode. In addition to the aforementioned sanity system change, Hard Mode also requires the player to have 4 tinderboxes any time they want to save. The Justine story used the normal-style sanity system, but also doesnāt let you save, making it pretty challenging in itās own right. It does however, give you a lantern with infinite oil, which is nice. Lastly, there is A Machine For Pigs, which does allow you to save, but also eliminates both the sanity and the inventory system altogether - a change I didnāt care for, as it was a enjoyable part of the tension and game-play in the other two stories.
The visuals in the game are all very nice and eerie, just as they were in Penumbra. I liked the gruesome choice of representing the playerās health and sanity by showing an actual heart and brain in various stages of decay. The game uses a much more gothic and Victorian aesthetic compared the the more modern environments seen in Penumbra. The soundtrack For Daniel and Justineās stories are composed by the same fellow who did Penumbra, so it is fantastic as well.
While a very scary and fun game with a great atmosphere and terrifying stories, this compilation does have some nasty bugs. I encountered instances in both āThe Dark descentā and āJustineā where I clipped right through a wall and fell out of the level, which was pretty frustrating in both instances. A Machine For Pigs presented me with some very bad bugs as well, such as parts of puzzles getting glitched out and forcing me to load an earlier save file. In one part of my play-through, I actually had two puzzle sin the same map repeatedly glitch out on me and it got so frustrating I almost gave up on finishing the story. The only other bug I found was a more harmless one where occasionally if you exited a body of water and walked on dry floor, you would still hear splashing with each step.
All in all, this bundle is definitely worth getting, even with the bugs. Great atmosphere, freaky (if sometimes a bit confusing) stories, and challenging game-play make this a horror classic from a pretty great developer. Another nice thing about these games us If you get the games on Steam, they both have a ānosteamā launcher in their folders which allows you to play them in DRM-Free form (something that is sadly missing from the Penumbra titles on steam). Now I really need to finish the Penumbra trilogy and try that SOMA game sometimeā¦

FireFox Lag Solution (AVG Memory Leak)
General | Posted 3 years ago(Hello all! I know I haven't posted art for a long time, I'm sorry about that. I've been back to work since last August and my focus shifted away from drawing to working more on my Minecraft projects and other things. But I thought in the meantime I can still at-least post journals!)
I Wanted to share a tip for anyone who uses AVG antivirus because my laptop was giving me such a headache this last week.
Last week, my laptop suddenly developed the problem of both firefox and google chrome becoming extremely difficult to use. Web pages would either take forever to load, or just not load at all, leaving me at a blank window. Any time I tried to watch something on youtube, the videos would stop and need to buffer constantly. When playing Minecraft or Killing Floor 2, I would occasionally experience input lag with my movement, causing my character to continue moving in a grid-like way in a certain direction for short bursts. Typing in word-pad would also result in an extreme delay of the characters appearing on-screen, and windows explorer seemed to crash more than usual as well.
After experimenting and troubleshooting for almost a week, I took the advice of looking into my task manager and noticed I had multiple instances of AVG running and one of them was using up more memory than even Firefox. I went to āapps & servicesā (I use Windows 10, by the way), and told it to uninstall AVG, which then gave me the option repair the program. I did so, and then restarted my laptop, and now my browsers are back to being fast and stable! So I share my experience just in case this happens to any of y'all in the future. <3

A journal brain dump for June 2021 (Part 1?)
General | Posted 4 years agoIt's been a while since I've done any journal writing on here, so I thought I'd just...let it flow!
I have a lot to process mentally, so I may end just doing several brain dump journals. Maybe even some POLITCAL (oh no!) ones if I can muster up the mental fortitude to write something coherent about the brain-melting shit show that is the social and political climate of the usa.
Well, I guess this one's already political because humanity is so stupid that even acknowledging the existence of a deadly plague is considered "controversial". Oh well!
-Covid-19 and money stuff-
I finally got my first vaccine shot a few days ago, and my arms was bit sore, but I'm glad I finally did it so as to be less likely to become a carrier -especially since I'll *also* be going back to work in August. I have been enjoying my time in quarantine but I will be needing money soon so I do at-least look forward to getting caught up on bills and healthcare needs. I also may be able to get a new car soon! My Prius had crapped out on me over a year ago and the dealership I'd been getting it fixed at was claiming they hadn't done the work on it that my entire family recalls them doing, so I feel like they're either trying to rip me off or are just incompetent and don't want to take my car there again. Thankfully, someone has offered to work with me on trading my Prius to them along with some cash to hopefully get a new car in return.
In regards to my gofundme, some kind folks have helped send some money my way and I've been able to get a refill of my spironolactone but I'm now out of estradiol patches after using the last two I had. This is one of the things I'll be glad to be able to afford again once I'm back to work.
-Video game stuff-
Outside of the art I post, I've been working on a few video game-related projects. My Joust adventure map for Minecraft is still in development, and when I get at-least the first world of it functional, I'd like to put out another Beta/demo release for folks to play and (hopefully) enjoy!
I'm working on making a campaign for Hotline Miami 2 based on the PlayStation games "Loaded" and "Re-Loaded" and those have been coming along well, too. I've made about 12 levels so far using vanilla editor assets. I still need to learn how to do more advanced things with the editor so I can hopefully customize the graphics and sound as well as make all my levels into a proper campaign. I'm currently revising the levels I already made to make them more challenging and full of enemies because originally the enemy encounters were pretty sparse and I wasn't finding the levels as fun while play-test.
I'm working on a build in Starbound / Frackin Universe on a Wolfenstein 3D themed castle build. I'd played through Wolf3D and Spear of Destiny over the last year and they were a lot of fun, so I wanted to make a tribute these nazi blasting classics.
As for games I'm playing, I'm currently working my way through Red Dead Redemption 2 (which was kindly given to me as a gift by my friend
MasamuneZenith and Sonic Unleashed. I'm enjoying Red Dead 2 quite a bit, and....trying to get enjoyment out of Sonic Unleashed (at-least I'm at Eggmanland now so I've almost finished the game). As usual, I'll write up a full review of these games once I've completed them.

Grim Fandango Remastered Review
General | Posted 5 years agoI've started to enjoy writing game reviews a while back, and
AshleyFableBlack likes when I do them too! So I thought I'd start posting them up here as well. Enjoy. or don't! Just be good people. :)
Grim Fandango is a wonderfully charming point and click adventure game with a unique style. It's based on Mexican/Central American mythology as well as the film nior genre. There are many fun characters to meet and lots of great comedy. They give you multiple options for control - you can either use the classic point and click controls, or you can move Manny around manually in Resident Evil/"tank" style controls (which I found handy at times to use). It can be confusing to figure out puzzle solutions, but there are plenty of guides available online if you get stuck. I don't want to give anything of the story away so I suggest trying the game for yourself!
Overall the game is fantastic, but I have a few small criticisms:
The game does occasionally have graphical bugs, but I did not encounter any that hindered my enjoyment of the game. Most of them were actually very comical to encounter, such as Mannys head disappearing or affixing a lever to Glottis' crotch instead of a control panel where it should be.
While the control is great most of the time, there are a couple of moments in the game where they can be kind of finicky and annoying, such as timed sequences.
Other than these small issues, I had a great time playing the game and became very fond of its characters š
AshleyFableBlack likes when I do them too! So I thought I'd start posting them up here as well. Enjoy. or don't! Just be good people. :)Grim Fandango is a wonderfully charming point and click adventure game with a unique style.
