YAY FURBUY!!! WOO!!!
General | Posted 18 years agohttp://www.furbuy.com
There's some really nice stuff up there right now, including some art by Tamen, Os, a multi-artist portfolio with some well-known names (like Ultraviolet, Wolfnymph, Fossil, Shinigamigirl, well it's 33 images so I'm not going to list EVERYone), DC Rabbit has a few pieces closing today, some nice T-shirts (including a commission for T-shirts), a bunch of super-cute buttons...
You should go check it out. There's no way I can list everything, and there's always new stuff up for sale. And if you sell art, try it out! I think you'll like it.

No MFF for me...
General | Posted 18 years agoWell, I was all for going to MFF, but now, it doesn't look like I'll be making it. For one, Jurann lost his job today, so money's gonna be reeeeeal tight. (Damn I'm glad I got my job when I did.) For two, I haven't sent in my application for art show panels, and I don't have a dealer's table, so I have no guarantee of being able to sell anything. For three, my art block combined with back and arm problems have been keeping me from drawing, so I'd have nothing to sell even if I DID have space. We don't have a hotel room booked, and we don't have flight arrangements yet. In fact, the only expense spent so far was for basic registration, and that's nothing big.
Well, there's always FC. I DO have a table there, and we can drive down, so all we need is a hotel room and that's a guaranteed trip. I was kinda looking forward to the whole pirate thing, but... *sighs* Maybe some other time.

Blaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh...
General | Posted 18 years agoOkay, so if anyone has noticed, I haven't been uploading much. I've been in a funk/art block for a little while now. Taking a break from art, because I just can't seem to bring myself to draw.
I'm also starting a new job. Uhm... today. This month is gonna be kinda wonky because I have some pretty randomly scheduled training classes before I actually start WORK next month, so my schedule's gonna be all screwy. Hopefully I can shake off my art block before I get too busy to draw.
Wish me luck, guys, I'm gonna try and get back into working again and getting schturf done. For the few of you out there that are waiting on art from me, I'm sorry it's been taking so long, I seriously have not been able to even pick up a pencil or a marker. If I tried to draw in this state, it'd turn out like crap, and that's not what you paid me for. Yesterday I had the urge to paint for a minute, but it went away... maybe it's a sign that things will be getting better soon.
For you artists out there, got any suggestions for dealing with massive art block? Any helpful ideas to get the creativity flowing again?

Why Didn't I Think Of This??

And The Winners Are...
General | Posted 18 years agoWell it's been a tough decision, picking the winner(s) of the FurBuy T-shirt contest. And this is the first time I've ever run a contest like this, so it has definitely been a learning experience!
We discovered that maybe (this SHOULD have been a "duh") we should have run the mascot and T-shirt design contests separately. But that would have been smart! XD So we've decided to take the contest and split it into two.
The winner of Best Design is MilesDF with his piece, "The Improvisator":
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/750637/
It was a tough choice, but Miles' piece just had so much action and dynamic posing and life... We simply couldn't pass up having a T-shirt with this piece on it. Thank you, Miles, for doing such a fantastic piece! You'll be receiving your shirt soon!
As far as the mascot goes, well, we're still hung up there, so we're going to do what we originally intended, and put the top three picks up for vote. It is a popular vote, but the final decision will be up to us admins.
The three picks for Best Mascot are:
Vexy the Vixen - http://www.furaffinity.net/view/701309/ & http://www.furaffinity.net/view/757531/
Byron and Celica (Buy & Sell) - http://www.furaffinity.net/view/747730/
Porter the Packrat - http://www.furaffinity.net/view/758510/
You can either reply here with your vote for best mascot, or you can send an email with the name of your vote as the subject line to contest -at- furbuy -dot- com. The winning mascot designer will receive a free T-shirt as well, and will have their choice of image on the shirt: our official shirt winner, their contest entry art, or just the FurBuy logo.
Vote now, voting closes November 25th!

FurBuy: To vote or not to vote...?
General | Posted 18 years agoThere have been some concerns brought up about the idea of voting on the top three contest entries, with people voicing complaints that the most popular artist(s) will win because their fans will flood the votes.
Ideally, I'd like this to be a fair vote based on design and artistic quality, but the points people have made are valid. I've considered making the voting members-only, but then we might have the same problem, just that people would flood the site with multiple accounts to sway the votes.
So the question is: will people be more upset if we hold the votes and it goes to the most popular artist? Or would people be most upset if we cancel voting and resort to admins' choice?

MFM Con Report
General | Posted 18 years agoYes ladies and gents, I am back from my SECOND con in as many weeks, MFM!
*purrs and melts into a happy puddle of artist goo* I had a most wonderful time. I won't go into details like I did the last con, so I'll just post the highlights (in random order, because I suck at timelines) and some shout-outs...
HIGHLIGHTS:
* Sleepover at the airport with Yolanda, Brittany, and Blake (4 strangers with one thing in common: cancelled connecting flight)
* Pink limo trip to awesome BBQ place with 14 other furs (FRIED PICKLES!!! Nom nom nom)
* Giant inflatable hamster ball (I squished my hand, owie!)
* Homework art jam with DAQ and XianJaguar (among others who I KNOW I should remember but can't)
* Dance, room party, dance, room party, dance, room party...
* Gay cake, glowstick bondage, and flaming shots
* Warm snuggles and morning mischief making
* Hip-swaying competition with red-headed jailbait (he won, dammit)
* Random gropes and neck-bites
* Snarly growling at real estate transaction woes (why oh why was the fax machine down?!)
SHOUT-OUTS:
* Duo - I wouldn't have made it without you, man! You are such a sweetheart! <333 Thank you again and again for everything!
* Kos and Gossery - You two are so amazing, I had a fantastic time, and it was good to see y'all again! Must do again sometime! >;)
* Takieda and Savaaha - You guys are great. I've missed you, Tak, it was good seeing you after so long! And I'm sorry if there was any awkwardness... ^^; Thank you for the T-shirt!
* Sinh - You are delightfully evil. Don't ever stop. *purr*
* Lord Rainbow Brite - Happy birthday! You are awesome! I take-a you glowsticks! *steals and runs*
* Dook and Khyle - You guys are both cute and sexy and fun and talented... Dook, I WILL have you draw in my ferret book someday. Khyle, nice pants. ;)
* Baka - A pleasure to meet you! I can't wait to see my badge! You, sir, are fun (if not a little bit loud in the lobby). XD
* Beowulf - You rock. I love love love your outfits, AND your art. Thank you for the recommendation of BBQ place.
* XianJaguar - I am SO glad we got some time to hang out. I must learn this blendy thing you do with markers. I was watching and studying. >.> It shall be mine!
* FurFan - I'm sorry I wasn't in the Artist Alley on Saturday, I still owe you that half-page! What shall we do?
* Masamune, Draco, Marker, Tits McGee, Old Freek, Skunk, and the many many many other people I got to meet and hang out with - I love you all! I had such a great con, and you are ALL part of what made it so fantastic!
And that's it! I think. >.> I'm still floating on a post-con high right now, and fuzzy as to some details.
I will try to go through the FurBuy contest submissions tomorrow and pick the top three for voting. I'll post here and on FurBuy when the voting is up and ready to go!

Off to MFM
General | Posted 18 years agoI'm off early tomorrow morning to MFM! I won't have time tomorrow morning, so I'm making my goodbye post tonight.
For those of you who were watching the FurBuy T-shirt contest progress, the contest ends Sept. 1st, but I'll be out of town, so the final voting won't start until I get back.
For those of you awaiting sketchbooks from RF, I'll get back to those as soon as I'm back from the con.
For those of you going to MFM too, see you there!

RainFurrest Con Report & More
General | Posted 18 years agoRainFurrest Con Report:
( Go here for the long version: http://ksharra.livejournal.com/70044.html )
Summary - It was exhausting but fun, and we had over 360 attendees: over twice what we had originally expected! The dance was fantastic, the people were friendly, I got to hang out with some very cool people and spend some time with Monika, whom I never see... Business was booming, though I was stupid and overbooked myself on the first day, and now I have 5 sketches to finish and mail out, not to mention the existing commissions and trades I have from before the con. And I leave for MFM this Thursday. Yikes. But I will DEFINITELY be going back next year! This year's RF was awesome (even despite the big first-year mistakes).
And more:
I get so swamped with badge commissions at cons. I'm planning on raising the prices on my badges a bit. I know it might scare away some people, but I'd rather do less badges for more money and have time to make them look good, than workworkwork churning out fast mediocre badges for a butt-ton of people while having to turn away others who didn't get in fast enough.
I'm also thinking I may stop taking sketchbook commissions for people who don't have sketchbooks. That's like cheating. There are people out there who have taken the time and money to go buy a sketchbook and make up a theme for it, but they can't get any art in their books because artists are too busy catering to people who just want a picture on paper. How fair is that? I know it may seem a little petty, but just scribbling a picture on a piece of paper feels kinda... cheap to me. Plus drawing in a sketchbook is more fun! I get to glance through the sketchbook and see other artists' one-of-a-kind stuff that doesn't get posted or displayed anywhere else. And sometimes that helps with ideas, too, when I get the ever-annoying art block that we all get sometimes. Sure, I can get past that at home, but at a con, there's no time to stall for ideas. So having that extra reference helps. And if it's a new "virgin" sketchbook? That's an honor. Being the first person to draw in a sketchbook is a special thing. I just get that sunbeam-and-choir-of-angels feeling when someone hands me a brand new sketchbook and says "I want you to be the first artist to draw in my book." You don't get any of that with a basic sketchbook-minus-the-book commission.
I'm also thinking that, once I get my current queue of work closed, I may start accepting commissions, but with a catch: I want to start learning to illustrate stories. I'm tired of drawing this pose and that character is yiffy position with this character... No. I want to learn how to tell a story with my art. Blotch does an EXCELLENT job at doing this sort of thing, so much detail and life and depth and emotion in their work (I DESPERATELY wanted the "No Rest for the Wicked" piece, but I didn't have $250 to spend) and I've been watching and observing, and I want to try my hand at it. But I don't write stories, and I have trouble coming up with creative ideas. So in the future, if you have a story you want illustrated, keep an eye out. I may be opening for story illustration commissions in the near future (once I get MFM and my current workload off my back).

Ouchie!
General | Posted 18 years agoGood lord, jumbo prints are expensive! Kinkos charges $10/sq. ft. for prints and they round up. o.O Is this normal? I'm planning on doing a few prints of my Shades of Purity and the Dancing Dog pics, since a lot of people really like them, but I don't know if it's worth it to make them enlarged. Would they sell? And would the sale be worth it?

Keeps getting better...
General | Posted 18 years agoSo far things are looking up!
Going in for a job interview today at a pet supply store. A little one, not big like Petsmart or Petco, so it'll be a much more relaxed atmosphere. I'm hopeful. Boy, do I need money.
My arms are getting better, though my back is still hurting. I'm able to draw again and catching up. I just mailed off 7 packages today. I'm hoping to blow through my workload and still have time to do some more art for the RainFurrest art show.
http://www.FurBuy.com is doing fantastically. We have a bunch of fursuit items now, and
nduli posted a load of T-shirts and decals, and then there's all the awesome art up there too. The T-shirt contest is going on, and we already have some submissions for the contest, but there's still 3 1/2 weeks left, so I can't wait to see what else comes in. The website, too, is undergoing a lot of changes. We just uploaded a new New Auction Form that's so much nicer, and we're adding context help, and a bunch of other new improvements.
I've had a few hits on selling my house, and hopefully it will be sold before the next mortgage payment goes through. The mortgage payments are killing me, now that my ex isn't living there and I'm having to cover it. Hopefully they'll be gone soon.
I'm learning to paint with watercolors, hopefully that opens up some more creative outlets. I might need to pick up some watercolor paper once I have the money for it.
Here's hoping things get to good soon. Still a ways to go, but progress is great. :)

Woo FurBuy!
General | Posted 18 years agoYay, http://www.FurBuy.com has been doing really well lately. We've gotten some really good art up on there now, by some of the bigger-name artists too, like
ultraviolet and
dcrabbit, and there's also an auction for a fursuit commission, and an interesting furry fox doll from France!
Those are just the highlights for today, though, there's a lot more stuff up, and we've been getting new things in all the time.
flinters posts on a regular basis, as do I. I've got three original sketches up right now, and some of my magnets left over from AC. Check it out: http://www.furbuy.com/seller/ksharra.html
Of course, FurBuy is still running the T-shirt/mascot contest, and we're hoping lots of people participate. Details here: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/677275/ Got a favorite animal you want to see as our mascot? Want your art on a T-shirt? You've got until September 1st to make it happen! ;)

Free T-shirt Contest!
General | Posted 18 years agoAttention, all artists! Want a free T-shirt with your art on it? ^..^
FurBuy is looking for a new mascot, and we need your help! Draw us up a T-shirt design with a mascot of your choosing and include the FurBuy logo (seen here: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/677275/ ), and if your design wins, we will send you a free T-shirt with your artwork on it!
Just reply to this entry with a link to your submission before September 1st to enter. Once we have all submissions, the top three will be put to popular vote so YOU can decide the winner! Have fun, be creative, and good luck!
Technical Stuff:
Submissions MUST be PG-rated and include the FurBuy logo. You can use whatever species and gender you want as the mascot (as long as it is a unique character) and as many colors as you like! Limit three entries per person.
Final artwork should be at least 8" x 10", 300-600 dpi, inked or colored (finished pieces only, no pencil sketches). We recommend you upload a smaller web-friendly preview file for the contest, as long as we are able to get a full-res version for printing if your art is chosen. The winning design will determine the color of the shirt on which it will be printed.
The winning artwork and mascot will become the property of FurBuy to be used for banners, ads, merchandise and other FurBuy-related content. Credit will be given to the winning artist on the front page of http://www.FurBuy.com, as well as on/with any merchandise containing the winning artwork.

Know a Good Chiropractor?
General | Posted 18 years agoYeah yeah I know chiropracty (chiropractice? chiropractorism?) is a debatable practice and half of the people say it works wonders, and the other half say it's a load of bunk. But I've seen and felt it work, and I think right now I need one.
My hands are acting up again, and BAD. I can't draw, type (except slow tap-typing), or even pick up light objects without using both hands, and my arms throb with what I've come to recognize as nerve pain. I think there's a nerve inpingement in my spine from all the hunching over I do in my art and computer use, and no matter what I do, it just seems to be getting worse.
I'm just worried about finding a good one. I know there are good ones who address the problem, fix it, and let you go once you're good. I had one like that when I lived in MS. And then there are bad ones, like the one in KS that fixed my migraines, but caused me back problems because he kept having me come back and didn't listen to me when I told him the adjustments were putting me in worse pain.
Does anyone know any good chiropractors in the Bellevue/Redmond, WA area? Or know where I can find a good recommended listing? I'm in pain and I need it to stop so I can get on with my art. Because until then, I can't use a pencil.
(PS Don't bother replying to this journal talking negative about the practice of chiropracty. I've heard it all. You won't sway me. I just want to find a good one, as I KNOW they exist.)

Yay, Car Thieves. LOL.
General | Posted 18 years agoWell, my truck was broken into. AGAIN. That makes twice this month, both times getting away with nothing of any value. This time, they tried to get away with the stereo, but failed miserably. That thing is wedged in there so tight, there's almost no way to get it out without professional de-installation. However, they DID destroy the stereo in the attempt.
It's hot here. Meltingly hot. I hate not having AC. >.< I thought Mississippi was hot. I thought Kansas was hot. But no, 110 degrees with an air-conditioned house is ten times more tolerable than 80 degrees with no AC... Been trying to catch up with my last few commissions from AC and do all the art on my Workload, but I just shut down in the mid-afternoon, because I'm too hot to think or move. *pant* I should have new art here soon.
Speaking of art, DAYUM. FurBuy ( http://www.furbuy.com ) has exploded! There's almost 100 auctions on there, and a lot of them are really good stuff! I posted some of my leftovers from AC up there, including a couple shirts and some magnets for less than list price on my CafePress store.
meesh is on there too, and
darknurse, and
dreamrunnerwolf, and
calypte (who I'm SHOCKED has gotten no bids, I'm wondering if it's because she used an non-anthro as her preview pic).... There's also
Underdog-Rikki,
iska,
obliviousally... Heck, too many awesome people to mention here! We're looking forward to having some of the bigger names moving over to place auctions, I'm very excited about it. ^^ The site is going swimmingly!
Mmm, swimming. Maybe that would help with this heat...

FB Auctions (and commission)
General | Posted 18 years agoHey there! Was just roaming thru the FurBuy site and saw some really great auctions!
There's one by
jenovasilver that has ladder features and closes in less than an hour:
http://www.furbuy.com/auctions/1001994.html
iska has several auctions up of some of her original works:
http://www.furbuy.com/seller/iska.html
And
darknurse just placed a bunch of auctions for prints!
http://www.furbuy.com/seller/Dark_Nurse.html
I also have an auction open for a FULL-COLOR COMMISSION for up to three characters, as well as some old original pieces for sale!
http://www.furbuy.com/seller/ksharra.html
My friend
calypte has a commission up as well that anyone would be a fool to pass on, with no bids yet:
http://www.furbuy.com/auctions/1001976.html
People, you should all go check out http://www.furbuy.com - It's been completely revamped, and it has some awesome new features, great tools for buyers and sellers, and it's TOTALLY FREE. If you buy art and you're not checking out this site on a regular basis, you're missing out! And if you sell art, check out FurBuy and look into maybe posting your auctions there. It's a very up-and-coming site with great features and lots of special tools to help promote your auction! We'll be integrating with some of the major furry sites out there soon, so don't miss the chance to get in on the action early!

AC Con Report
General | Posted 18 years agoGo here:
http://ksharra.livejournal.com/62459.html
I'm not going to flood my FA page with the whole long AC con report...
The Summary
I got to meet a lot of cool people, friends, fans, and artists, so many that I couldn't list them all if I tried (I KNOW I forgot people in the complete report). I got to flirt outrageously and do art trades with
meesh and
duo, and got some art from
ladyfoxglove and
dcrabbit. I got drunk for my first time ever at a con, and paid heavily for it. My art did fairly well in the art show, aside from not getting any bids until the last minute. Did well at the Dealers' Den, even though I missed time from being sick and was unassisted at my table for most of the time. I wasn't able to buy anything from the other tables or the art show but I came away with exotic candies from the other side of the world and a cool sculpture.
So now back to normal life again. I need to finish up the pictures I have left over from the con, I have some auctions and print sales to take care of from BEFORE the con, and I have a commission up for auction ( http://www.furbuy.com/auctions/1001985.html ) that I need to hover over and fidget nervously about (hehe). I have work to do! AIEEEE!!

Gone to AC - Details here!
General | Posted 18 years agoTonight I'm headed out on a red-eye flight for Anthrocon! I'll be at table D22, hawking my wares in the form of sketchbooks, badges, magnets, bumper stickers, buttons, prints, and I'll be happy to decorate door signs! (The staff I think is handing out or selling blank door signs for people to hang from their hotel doors, not sure which. Not sure how much to charge for them...) Stop by, say hi, and if you don't, I'll strap
jurann to my table and go hunt you down instead! Rawr! No, seriously, I'm gonna be busy as all get out, but I WILL try to get up at least a few times, meet and greet other people at their tables and whatnot.
As far as after business hours, I have no CLUE what I'll be doing. First time to a con this big, lots of people I hope to meet that I've never seen before, so I don't know what I'll be doing or who I'll be hanging out with. I'm hoping not to bog myself down with too much homework, but then again, I do gotta make a lotta money to pay back all I've spent... :P We'll see.
We'll also be putting some flyers out for FurBuy ( http://www.furbuy.com ) to celebrate the new look and feel, and hopefully get the site up and jumping. I'm really excited about the new site, it's SO much nicer and so convenient (that Auction Injection and the Newest Auctions list on the front page especially). And I likes de logo. I think I did a good job on de logo. ^^ *proud happy kitty* We've got some great artists who should be posting soon, and I've got a commission up for bid, as well as a few pictures I'll be tossing up before AC. Anyone else might want to take advantage of the boosted views from the AC attention, post some auctions, get seen... ;)
Well, I gotta run get packed! (Not that way, you dirty minded little...) Hehe. See you soon!

It's ALIIIIIVE! Come see!!! (Oh, and a commission auction)
General | Posted 18 years agohttp://www.furbuy.com just underwent a COMPLETE site overhaul in preparation for AC and other new exciting changes! And I helped! *beams*
I've been made an admin of the site, mainly to help with the look and feel and "friendliness" of the site. I'm not tech-savvy enough to play with all the big admin tools, but (not to brag TOO much) the new site looks INFINITELY better than the old one, and I like to think that my contributions helped out a bit...
Please check it out! We want people's opinions on the new look, suggestions for improvement, bug reports (if you find 'em), etc. The site JUST went live a few moments ago, so I gotta get back to work checking for bugs, tweaking some minor appearance thingies, and so on. *bounces excitedly* YAY!!
FYI, as part of the site testing, I will be posting a new auction here in about an hour or so, for a full-color 9" x 12" commission of any rating. (Give it a lil bit, since I have a few important things to do before I post the auction.) So here's a rare chance to actually get a commission from me, since I don't normally do them. :) *waggles eyestripes, grinning*
As a bonus, it gives YOU a chance to test out the bidding part of the system as well as the FREE account creation (if you don't have an account). ;) Let me know if anything comes up, so I can fix it or have it fixed.
While you're waiting for my auction to get posted, go look at the other auctions. If you can't bid on my commission, bid on
calypte's here (which is still at an ungodly low bid): http://www.furbuy.com/auctions/1001976.html Or bid on one of the many other auctions. Or if you're an artist, post your own auction and try out all the new site features! (And take advantage of the free publicity, cuz we're gonna be shouting from the rooftops about the new design. ;) )
http://www.furbuy.com
EDIT: Here's my commission auction, all posted and ready to go:

Auction: NOT MINE!
General | Posted 18 years agoEveryone should go check out this auction:
http://www.furbuy.com/cgi/showaucti.....cgi?id=1001976
It's been put up by a local friend of mine who does some really great work, but nobody seems to have discovered her yet! Her name is
calypte and she does some AMAZING things with colored pencils. I want a print of her dragon and fox picture, just need money. ^^;
This is (I think) one of her first auctions, so be supportive, I KNOW if you bid she's gonna do a great job with it, because she loves to impress! And it's starting awfully low (too low, I think, for her level of skill) so it's affordable.
If you don't bid on her auctions, go +Watch her FA page. She's worth it!
