Second-worst news
Posted 8 years agoMy cat had surgery on her foot recently. What we'd thought was an injury turned out to be a malignant tumor in her toe, so a followup surgery was scheduled to try and make sure all affected tissue was removed and give her the least chance of it spreading. While we were waiting, her opposite hip had developed some swelling, which the vet thought might be inflammation due to having to carry her weight differently. He said he'd examine it when she went in to make sure nothing else was needed prior to the surgery.
Alas, he was wrong.
The swelling is, in fact, an aggressive bone tumor that is dissolving her pelvis. The only reason she still has use of that leg is because the joint hasn't been affected yet.
So, no followup surgery because we're now in end-of-life care. Kitty hospice, if you will. Keep her comfortable until she says that it's time. I did my best for her for 14 years, and I'll keep doing it to the end.

Posted 13 years agoJust wanted to let everyone know that the move went fine and I'm beginning to progress a bit in the artwork again. Hopefully new things from me soon!

Life update
Posted 14 years agoAs of yesterday, my mate and I are now married. I has a husband! :3
Unfortunately, he's leaving tomorrow for his change of MOS training (he's in the army), and once he reports to his new duty station, he'll be deploying ASAP for a year. So no honeymoon, but we've survived a deployment before we wedded; I'm sure we can get through this one too.

Dad finally was able to get a job! He'll be part time with The Balsam Inn, filling in for vacationing chefs and helping out with their busy season and anything in the off season that requires a lot of help.
Also, I'm being taken on full-time at my job. My boss is moving on, so I'm going to be hired to replace her. More hours, more money, happy times.
It is a good day.

And we have snow. Here in Georgia, that means that everyone gets very excited, especially because there's expected accumulation. Mind you, this isn't much; merely 1-3". However, people's versions of "excited" can run the entire spectrum of fun to stupid.
Children, and some adults, will take the opportunity to play in the snow. Some other adults will race up to the nearest grocery store and try to personally clean out its entire supply of bottled water, milk, eggs, bread, and toilet paper, certain they'll be snowbound for days. Still others (probably the same ones who forget how to drive in the rain 9..9 ) will be terrors on the road, either by driving exactly the same as on a dry, normal day or by driving so slowly they make everyone else around them angry enough to not think properly.
I am home and safe and I have a robe on and a mug in my hand. I am content.
The only thing that would be better is if my mate was here.

All prices are set for a full 8.5 x 11 inch piece of paper; larger and smaller pieces would cost more or less (exact amounts varying according to the finished size). Note: the multi-character cost is added once, not per extra character.
Sketch/Design: A rough pencil drawing of the subject and may include some shading, but don't expect a background. I will send a high-resolution digital copy by email. $5, $10 for a cleaned up sketch with inked outlines; add $5 for multiple characters.

I can work from photographs if desired; I can also do creatures/people/characters/etc that you create as well as those of others with their permission. Copyrighted characters are off-limits, though; the fan art I do, I don't get money for. Visual references are great, but if all you have is a text description, that's fine too. I also reserve the right to put the image on my deviantART page, here in FA, in my portfolio, and to sell prints unless negotiated otherwise.
With everything except the sketch commission, I will email the commissioner a low-res copy of the design for approval before starting work on inking, shading, or coloring. This is not to slow down the process, but to save the other person potential aggravation if my design is not what s/he had in mind. After approval, I'll keep the commissioner updated as to my progress until I can get it done.
Payment will need to be in advance unless otherwise negotiated. I have Paypal, but a money order in the mail is also okay. If you send a check, I'll need to wait until it clears beforehand. Please no cash in the mail, but if you know me personally, cash in person is fine. If I decide to raise my prices, the price will only apply to future commissions; current ones will remain at the original quoted price. Also, I don't have a specific number of slots open, but if I start getting swamped I will put up a notice that I'm not taking more until my plate is clear.
