So, my official first week of work at the Head shop I work has been...AMAZING. Like, HOLY SHIT SOMEONE PINCH ME, amazing. Here's what happened, and lead up to me getting this AMAZING job!
So, I went for my interview at the Dollar Store and got the job. (Score.) I waited for Nanaki and his dad to come pick me up, because I had to go to Olga's to work in a few hours. Nanaki gets there and says "Oh, I need to buy some cigarettes!" so I say okay, and we go to the head shop next to the Dollar Store.
I go in and the owner sees me, and says "You look nice!" I smile and thank her, and explain I have two jobs now. She says "You don't want to work here anymore?" I arch my eyebrow and say "I do want to work here."
"Good. Come by after you get off of work, for your first day."
I was in a daze, after that. So yes, now I work at a head shop. ♥
Also, as a warning, NEVER, EVER CALL A WATER PIPE A BONG IN A HEAD SHOP, UNLESS YOU HAVE A MEDICAL CARD. I am not allowed to sell water pipes to people who call them bongs. Also, to clarify...
A "roach clip" is just a clip.
A "metal weed pipe" is just a "Metal Pipe"

I didn't want to, however, I've always had problems out of my knee. Yesterday, after getting off work, I laid down and was on the verge of tears. My knee literally felt like at any moment, it was going to dislocate. I have weak joints, so yeah, it was a major possibility.
I called them up, and they honestly tried to make accommodations for me like having me do waitressing or hosting, however, I had already had another job lined up to replace it, so s'all good. I felt bad for the manager, I could tell he really liked me, a lot. (He all but pleaded for me to stay.)
I am a bit disappointed, however, if I couldn't do the job, I just couldn't do the job. Better to walk away then have to crawl, I say.
Also, Kuro PS3 died again. I am so tired of messing with that damned machine. XD I'm gonna get a new one once we find out if A) We're moving and B) how I can budget both jobs to fit our needs.

Soo, today was my first official day at Olga's.
I hate to say it, but I had aBLAST!. o.o A lot of monotonous work (Assemble sammich, arrange on plate, put on fries, push to server.) however, it went by pretty quickly. I called Nanaki from work on my break, and he told me how much he missed me. ♥ I was let off my shift an hour early - and found out if they're slow, that happens.
A kinda annoying thing about the job...I didn't have a set schedule - and won't have one for about a week or so, however, they told me that I will be put on a set schedule soon. They didn't even know what time I was getting off on Monday, so I had to schedule my second interview for earlier in the morning. Is okee though, I am determined to get this second job! *salute*
Now if you'll excuse me, I am gonna curl up next to Nanaki, and make him my backrub slut! >D

General | Posted 14 years agoI am so freaking annoyed right now.
I paid a plush maker to make a custom plush for Nanaki after seeing his auction on Furbuy back in February. He couldn't take it down after posting it, so he agreed to make another one. I told him Nanaki's birthday was in June, and he said it would only take six weeks to make the plush. He asked for half of the money now for "materials".
He never kept in contact, wouldn't give me update photos when requested...Worst of all, I gifted the money to him via PayPal.
So I'm out eighty bucks.
Let this be a lesson kiddies - Never GIFT money for commissions, unless you can keep in contact with the commissioner, and they have a good track record for finishing commissions.
I am asking for a refund of the money I sent, since no confirmation of the plush even being worked on has been shown. The best I can do from this point is threaten to get PayPal involved, and include the contents of an E-mail.
This is another thing to keep in mind - make sure you always keep any correspondence to and from the artist on file.

When you told Nanaki that you thought I was crazy, and needed to be checked into a nut house, I was hurt.
I thought I knew pain. I was sadly mistaken. On a day that was supposed to be joyous to me, the day Nanaki was going to tell the family that we were getting married, you told him not only to not say anything, but that he had to choose love over money. Not only that, but instead of acting like a grandparent on your grandsons birthday, decided to act like a major ass and EMBARRASS us in front of the family.
I was devastated.
Now...you have the nerve to tell us that Nanaki should get his "Vas Defrans" snipped so we can't have kids. You have the audacity to sit there and condemn him because he has an illness, an incurable illness? I know your whole thing is you wish all people of mental retardation to be sterilized so that the world isn't 'filled with THEM.' yet...this is what you call your grandson? This is what you feel he is, because of ADEM?
You have really sunk low, and I pity you, for in your old age, you shall never have glanced over your own great-grandchildren's faces in person. You shall never have the pleasure to hold them, to hug them, to ever touch them. You will not know the warmth of their hands as you hold it to walk with them to cross the street for ice cream.

I've been reading through a few furry forums I regular, and I keep seeing the same thing. "Why won't anyone draw me free art/my character?"
The simple answer is - artists don't *have* to. We have a LOT to deal with, both in real life and with commissioners. Weather you realize it or not, being an artist is NOT all fun and games. We have people trying to be our friends for the sake of getting free art, (which, by the way, REALLY FUCKING HURTS, and it's very obvious who's your friend and who's in it for the art.) or the fact that we have to put in a lot of effort, even for simple pieces. I for one, have a very teeny art station. It's cramped, and by time I'm finished a full color image, I have a migraine and my back is KILLING me.
Now, how can you get an artist to be more apt to giving you art, you ask? I'll list out a few things you can do!
1) Attend Streaming Events - This one should come as a no-brainer. Sometimes, I finish up a commission early, but I won't post I'm offering free art. Those that attend the streams until it's finished, and are active in convo, usually walk away with a little something, be it a sketch. This again, depends souly on how I feel after the commission is over. (Case in point, ask
)
2) Buy Something - Nothing makes an artist happier knowing that their art is appreciated enough that someone would want to buy something. Be it even a sketch, it DOES go noticed. (Case in point, ask

)
3) Offer up a Trade - Hey, us artists LOVE getting art in return for art.
4) Be A friend, not just for the art. - It's really, really easy to see who's your friend and who isn't. I compare everyone I talk to from here on a scale. Usually, if I have people begging for free art, they get knocked down a peg on the scale until they finally have asked me so much, I just can't stand it, and ignore them. If every convo we have has something such as "DRAW ME!" or "You know what would be cute? My character in your style!" it gets monotonous.
HOWEVER, if you have an honest interest to know about the artist, and take to approaching them WITHOUT ART AS YOUR MAIN GOAL and FOR THE SAKE OF BEING A FRIEND, you'll find that you'll get art more often than not.
HOWEVER, ART SHOULD NOT BE YOUR MAIN REASON TO BE SOMEONES FRIEND. THAT IS JUST REALLY LAME.

General | Posted 14 years agoI...I think I fixed the YLOD problem I had with my PS3. I sent it to Knights Gaming Repair and a few minutes after getting it back, the damned light happened again.
Welll....Months passed, and we were PS3-less. Today, I turned into Winry and decided I *had* to mess with it. I shoved the hard drive in as hard as I could, and screwed everything in as tightly as possible. (Man, that made me feel dirty typing that out. XD)
The end result? Well, I have our PS3 in tower mode right now, and it's running as well as the day we first got it.We are effecting change...
General | Posted 14 years agoBACKSTORY: I was basically forced to apologize to the family for having Akura as a mate at Nanaki's birthday party. His grandfather glared at me, said "Apology accepted." and we had dinner. During the dinner, Nanaki got up to pour him some pop, and his grandfather confronted him, saying if he married me, he'd loose his inheritance and that he shouldn't tell the family we were getting married. He looked to his grandfather, and basically told him money means nothing without someone to share it with. <3
It's a most beautiful thing. After the storm, comes another storm, and then sunshine. What am I going on about, you say?
I was just informed my actions of apology did not fall on deaf ears - many of the family members actually had NO CLUE as to why I was apologizing. Nanaki's grandfather taking him to the side and...for lack of a better term, making an ass out of himself, was noted harshly on the family.
The biggest change I can think of is that now, we have helped mend two sides of the family. You see, Nanaki's aunt is the polar opposite of his mom. They don't talk much, much less agree to ANYTHING, but they had a long convo the other night, sister-to-sister. This hasn't happened in a long time.
Not only that, but his grandfather's best friend is Nanaki's stepdad. His stepdad is pretty much the same type of person as his grandfather. Not even his Stepdad agreed that Nanaki's grandfather should have behaved the way he did, and their relationship is becoming strained.
An apology, and standing up in the face of love and what you believe in...are both powerful things. Never underestimate either of them.

Root Canal - CHECK.
General | Posted 14 years agoSo I decided to opt for Care Credit - and I got the tooth taken care of.
All I can say is this - I am almost immune to Novocaine. He numbed me to the point he was scratching his head wondering why I could still feel it. I got a shot in the roof of my mouth (Which, by the way - I don't see what the big deal about it was - it stung but not that bad.) and I could still feel when he was doing the metal implants. Quite possibly the worst part of the whole ordeal was the metal ring on my tooth - I haven't felt that kind of pain since I had braces. x.o
Over all, the root canal wasn't too bad. Certainly not the worst pain I felt - the tooth breaking was more horrid than the procedure. Those of you who are putting it off - do it if you can. I'm not doubting I'll be in pain tomorrow, but I know I can handle it.

I got a shot in the roof of my mouth (Which, by the way - I don't see what the big deal about it was - it stung but not that bad.) and I could still feel when he was doing the metal implants. Quite possibly the worst part of the whole ordeal was the metal ring on my tooth - I haven't felt that kind of pain since I had braces. x.o
Over all, the root canal wasn't too bad. Certainly not the worst pain I felt - the tooth breaking was more horrid than the procedure. Those of you who are putting it off - do it if you can. I'm not doubting I'll be in pain tomorrow, but I know I can handle it.
