Massive info dumb! WOAH~! :O
Posted 11 years agoImportant Update:
A Slight Change in Direction
So after talking in a Chat room on another forum the other day, I've been thinking about this game's length. And a thought occurred to me. An hour and a half is pretty bad for a $10 game. Even though it will come with a 20+ track OST. And of course for the sake of quality. I refuse to release the game at all unless I can get it running smooth and the OST sounding at least decent. Which thankfully, I have a guy that can help me with that. A relative of mine actually. Yes the interconnected branching pathways with items being only obtainable through exploration was meant to add some replay value, as well as encourage and reward the player for exploring. But that might not be enough.
As for the game's length. The post game events are part of my attempt to increase the game's time.
Return to Somnus adds another hour.
And Nightmare Castle due to it's planned difficulty, could add anywhere from another hour to 3+ hours depending on player skill. though in hindsight, this can be said for the whole game really.
I've had these planned up for months now (in the case of RtS, over a year). But was hesitant to talk about them mainly because. I wasn't sure if I was going to go the extra mile with these. While RtS is simply a retread through the main game's areas with the layout's of each area changed around bit and more story (not talking about the plot out in the open). And the same bosses for each area minus the final boss whom is replaced with a new one boss. Making it fairly time friendly to make. Nightmare castle is almost a small game in of itself. Despite having only 9 areas, and a handful of bosses. Due to requiring entirely new assets, different from the main game.
But after that chat I'm thinking I should go the extra mile, at least with RtS. To add more time to the game bring it up to 2 and a half hours average time. Nightmare Castle will still happen (I REALLY want to make this for "reasons" MUHUHAHAHA~! X3). But may not be in the final build. More then likely it'll come in a future update (not dlc since it's not an after thought).
About Side Quests:
So that's all fine and good but I don't feel it's enough. So I'm going to make a promise I tried to avoid and stand by it. There will be side quests. I won't say how many but there will be more to do in the main story outside of just exploring areas, picking up and drinking strange potions you found on the ground, and beating up Phantasms because reasons. NPCs are planned to be there and will mainly be used to assist the player (tips) and add some story to the game's world/develop Sarina's character. Giving the player more reasons to actually talk to them doesn't seem like a bad idea. And it'll expose them to and give them more reason to learn enemy patterns and routes. Extending the games time some more. to maybe at least over 3 hours.
The 4 Optional bosses "The Witches of the Four Seasons" will stay. They are each hidden in 4 of the 8 areas of the main game's castle (I have that planned out but I'm not telling that out in the open). And can be fought at any given time after entering the Hub area "Hall of Rem" for the first time. You just have to find the hidden warp points for them in each of the 4 stages. There is a Phantasm NPC named "Vivian" who does tell you a story about them and how they came to an end as you progress through the game. Eventually telling you where to find them when the final 2 areas of the game open up. Beating each of them will earn you a new spell to use (this game's bosses are all structured very much like Megaman's). 4 in total and each very useful, and to clarify what I mean by spells. Spells in DRSotP = Special Weapons in MM. If you chose to fight them early, you will have a very difficult time beating them due to lacking there weaknesses. But you'll have the most time to play with 4 of the best spells in the game. If I fail to balance these right it could break the game but we'll cross that bridge when we'll get to it. For the sake of detail and dodging a possible bug I'll add some alternate dialog for her that triggers in the event you beat them early. If you decide to fight them later in the game. You'll have a much easier time with them due to having their weaknesses. Making it easy to earn some of the best spells in the game. At the cost of not being able to use them as much during the main story. Luckily there's post game to play with them in. There will be a catch to this however. You only have until the Final Boss to fight them and get their spells. You will lose your chance once you beat the final boss due to what happens next in the story as a direct result of that battle.
Damn it Kyanbu, why so many bosses!? The 12 bosses (16 counting the witches) are why this game's main story was originally estimated to be around an hour and a half in length. Also MM games are technically around the same length with even more bosses. There's really no harm in it as the bosses are probably going to be one of this games strong points since I've put more thought into them then I have the actual level design. For better or worse. While this is a metroidvania with more focus on platforming and exploration. This game is more inspired by MM. And pays greater homage to it in terms of some of it's design choices I've made.
And that's the end of this info dump. I'll post a graph showing this game's planned difficulty curve in the morning. It's past mid night where I am now. There's also that other thing I forgot to post here. I'll try to get that up tomorrow.

So I've been thinking about relationships
Posted 11 years agoThe following is actually a several week old post I made on my Facebook account. Something mainly directed at friends and family. But I've decided to post it here because I'm curious to see how my watchers respond to this if it all.
original Post made, December 27, 2014 at 5:19pm
"So after having this question asked to me by my little sister a couple times and again by one of her friend's parents. And realizing for some of the people I know might have at one point or another thought about this question as well. I figured maybe it's best that after all these years. I finally just get it off my chest and let the chips fall where they may. Might lose a friend or two over it. May lose some respect for it. But hey, whatever happens, happens.
That question being "Kwame/Kyanbu, why are you still single at age 25 going on 26? You're a great guy and you at least seem like you'd do fine in a relationship. " And in the case of one of the parents of a friend of my little sister. I was at one point told I'd be a pretty good dad. And well here's my answer.
From High School through Collage I was actually actively trying to avoid a relationship as much as possible. I knew that my youthful days were numbered at that point and wanted to just spend them enjoying life as much as I could in a manner I felt conferrable in. Staying single and hanging out with friends, was the way I wanted to spend my final teen years. I had fun, and can firmly say I have no regrets. Well out side of not getting a job back then when I promised myself I would a bit for petty reasons (cards and Video games). But that's a story for another time.
Anyway. By that point some would tell me I could have had the best of both a relationship and stay hanging out with pals without losing a single one of my hobbies at the time. And you're right I've come to learn that it could have worked out. Heck I know some of my close pals are living proof of that. But at the time I feared the stress of trying to maintain one would have made a relationship a burden. And given how stressful my life got after high school from my embarrassing failures are Camden County Collage. Handling the fact that I may have ADD very poorly. Though I've learned to live with it and have even adapted to it quite well (controlled multitasking for the win!). Helping my mom and Andrew take care of my little sister. My Grandfather on my mother's side passing away almost out of the blue. My Grandmother (mother's side again) slowly dying of and eventually passing away from cancer. And the thought of my dream as a game dev going up in smoke. Not getting a Girlfriend/Boyfriend was probably a good call. I wasn't exactly stable confidence wise at the time. A recent car ride home from church with my mother did make me realize that given everything that was happening at the time. even if I did well in collage, my education there would have been cut short anyway... wow I ended up telling that story after all lol.
But there's more to it then that. I also didn't do it because I didn't want anything getting in the way of my dream to develop games. even if it's just end's up being a hobby with financial benefits. And thanks to the indi boom taking the game industry by storm. Game development getting cheaper for indi devs like myself. And good old self studying to make up for my current lack of schooling. Improved a lot with artwork and I'm technically at novice/entry level when it comes to programming and pretty soon basic music composition. For a while now it feels like that dream is coming true. Not the way I though it would but at least I have control over the project. And I'm making progress. A petty reason I know, but I haven't exactly had the chance to date either so no harm done in my opinion.
And the last big reason. I'm financially crippled...still. Well technically I do have a job as a free lance artist taking up commissions where ever they may come (most recently from the furry fandom). but I don't make much money from that and honestly don't plan on making it anything more then a nice stream of side income along side profits from the game "D-Resonate Sonata of the Phantasm", and eventually ad revenue from my youtube channel once I get around to setting that up. And a day job hopefully. And stock trading but this economy may have killed that plan lol. Anyway because I don't make much at the moment. I'd be too much of a dead weight to him/her. We wouldn't be able to do much off of only one person's spend change. And living together would be a financial nightmare for him/her. Not to mention it wouldn't feel right. I don't like the thought of him/her or the people we know thinking I'm mooching off of him/her.
Will I ever consider dating? Yes, once I'm financially stable, I'll be available and won't be actively dodging/friend zoning people. Though it will be me looking for a girlfriend. But I will stay open to that other side of my spectrum. Am I'm scared of the thought of being alone for all of my life? No, that's silly, I have all of you folks plus my fans. I will never be alone, ever... might get a cat though. XD But I'm not gonna rush things. If it happens, awesome! If not then well I'm not just gonna stop everything. I'm gonna keep living my life. I'm not going to waste time trying to find love, when it better to let it find you.
So there you all have it. My answer to that nearly decade old question. And I'm sure you all might have also notice that I confessed something else about myself here too. Like I said in the beginning. Let the chips fall were they may.
Whatever happens...happens. "
In hind sight I actually will consider dating once I'm more stable later this year/next year. Mainly because for the first time in years... I actually want to find that special someone in my life. Where ever she may be.

I have a question for you folks
Posted 11 years agoI have a serious question for you all. Have my characters (that I've uploaded here so far) seem a bit samey to you? Do you have a hard time telling them a part from one another?
The reason I ask this is because I'm addressing what I think might be a six faces issue with some of my character designs. By redesigning them a bit. Changing up the facial build structure bit, and body types. As well as actually getting off my butt and drawing character reference sheets so that I can actually keep physical traits consistent while improving anatomy. This will also transition over to the NPCs in the game project as well. To make sure that each NPC is unique to a degree. There won't be many so I have to make sure that they at least don't look like Platte swaps of one or more different people. The only character that likely will be left mostly untouched is Sarina, the main character for the current "D-Resonate" game. And this is primarily because all of my female characters actually started out as variations of her design.
Also, Planned on drawing something for the New Year. Ended up forgetting and running out of time. Oh well, Happy New year everyone! Stay safe, and have a great time.
Now for me to bring in the new year by drawing. And maybe gaming.

God damn it...
Posted 11 years agoSeems the more I focus on graphics the less time I have to actually program the game. And when I focus on the game mechanics, Graphics suffer. And that's without factoring in designing the stages/areas.
/Indie Dev problems.
I need to figure something out because time is ticking and the longer it takes to get things done the later the launch date gets. We are seriously creeping into 2018 to 2020 territory unless I can find a way to accelerate development. Either I get helper to help make the game for free and the slim to non chance of seeing any money from this game's sales (assuming it does well). Or I have to cut back on art quality and make bad looking sprites. Because it's clear that I can't do 4 jobs at once at the same time. No human can. And doing them 1 at a time is pushing development back and causing more and more delays. I was suppose to have another test build down by summer... we're in the middle of autumn now...

Writing Excercise Character Meme
Posted 11 years agoSo while checking my pages I came across this old character meme that a few artist were doing. Basically you pick one of your characters and answer the questions the way that character would. There's no rule on how you go about it so I treated it as an in person interview.
It seems like a pretty good way to practice writing characters so I figured I'd give it a try. You guys and gals should give it a try too. Having your character communicate through some kind of dialog can help you balance out their personalities. In my case Sarina's Jerk levels.
OC picked: Sarina Phantom the protagonist of my current game project "D-Resonate: Sonata of the Phantasm"
1. What is your name?
Whoa who the heck are you and what you doing in my mansion!?... Whatever, the name's Sarina Phantom.
2. Do you know why you were named that?
Hell if I know. Mom told me it means Princess Phantom or something like that.
3. Single or taken?
I have a boyfriend. Dash Stellar, a total goodie goodie but he's a swell guy to be around.
4. Have any abilities or powers?
I'm a caster, though I'm only great with a handful of spells... studying new ones bores me so I just focus on the few I know. Namely ones that break things.
5. Stop being a Mary Sue!
Go F*** yourself, I'm less mary sue then your average Fanfic.net character.
6. What's your eye color?
... good question, I think it's some kind of purple color? My Scleras are blue much to the shock of many people I meet. Don't ask how I'm not a doctor. Mom probably knows though, she's pretty in to that whole "Science" and "Alchemy" stuff.
7. How about hair color?
White as snow. Eat your heart Alucard! Your mallet has nothing on mine!
8. Have you any family members?
Well there's my mom, my dad, my sister Xaniras, our butler Annette. And then there's my cousins the Vandalia Family. Their mostly mobsters though. You should go say hi to them, heh, heh, heh.
9. Oh? How about pets?
I have this annoying familiar named Jack Lantern. My mom made him during her teen years and oh boy does it show. He's a talking pumpkin so does that count?
10. That's cool, I guess. Now tell me something you don't like.
Dead beats that don't pay me, and people that waste my time. Kind of like what you're doing right now.
11. Do you have any activities/hobbies that you like to do?
Gaming and collecting Consoles.
12. Have you ever hurt anyone in any way before?
I have before in the past through pranks. Don't really feel like talking about it...
13. Ever… killed anyone before?
You in about a few minutes.
14. What kind of animal are you?
Ani-Human Phantomcat
15. Name your worst habits.
My sister says it's gaming and laziness. But I don't listen to her. She's obsessed with fire.
16. Do you look up to anyone at all?
The Great Witty Phantom. A legendary Caster and prankster that I hope to meet one day.
17. Are you gay, straight, or bisexual?
Bisexual, I've been in a few relationships with other boys and girls before I met Dash. 7th one's the charm I guess...
18. Do you go to school?
Home schooled. I don't care what mom says, Annette sucks at teaching.
19. Ever want to marry and have kids one day?
Ever wondered what a concussion feels like?
20. Do you have fangirls/fanboys?
I like to think I do. And if not I'm sure I will someday.
21. What are you most afraid of?
... I... no... non of your business!
22. What do you usually wear?
It varies so much with all the different outfits and styles I have. I honestly couldn't tell you. Usually within goth fashion though I stray out of that too sometimes.
23. What's one food that tempts you?
Chocolate cakes
24. Am I annoying you?
Yes.
25. Well, it's still not over!
...:sigh:
26. What class are you (low class, middle class, high class)?
Upper Class technically since I still live at my folk's mansion with my sister.
27. How many friends do you have?
A couple around the world. Though I don't get to see them often out side of Dash's sister "Mika" and her friend "Valerie".
28. What are your thoughts on pie?
It holds the secrets to the universe but no one seems to believe me.
30. Favorite drink?
Cherry Wine, Non-Alcoholic. Can't stand the taste of Alcoholic drinks.
31. What's your favorite place?
My mansion. Though I sometimes hangout in "Lucid City" since it's not too far from here.
32. Are you interested in anyone~?
I have a boyfriend...
33. That was a stupid question.
Yes, yes it was. Screw you by the way.
34. Would you rather swim in a lake or the ocean?
The hell kind of question is that!? Neither unless money is involved.
35. What's your type?
You don't value your life all that much do you?
36. Any fetishes?
Yup guess not.
37. Seme or uke?
Wow you really want me to hurt you.
38. Camping or indoors?
Indoors, Camping is fun until your battery dies.

Hentai Commission slot available.
Posted 11 years agoRejoice all you perverts out there. For one time only I'm opening up Adult Commissions.
Only three slots available. 1 of which is already taken leaving only 2 remaining. The Rules are simple.
It has to be tasteful, normal sex. Foreplay, Intercourse, and anal/oral sex is fine. Anything beyond that is a no. I don't want to see any commissions for something like Two girls and a cup or characters drinking someone's... you know.
Squirting or cumming is fine for obvious reasons. It's a normal part of intimacy.
No Vore or rape, I don't draw sick and twisted perversions of sex. Which also means bondage is out of the question due to the thin line it walks between willing sex and rape.
Homo and Hetero sex is fine. No bestiality (human x animal) or anything involving non anthro animals. Anthro x Human is also off limits due to the thin line it walks as well when it comes to this issue.
ALL CHARACTERS INVOLVED MUST BE 18+! AND YOU TOO MUST BE OF AGE 18 OR OLDER TO ASK FOR THESE!
These are very simple rules to follow so there should be no problems. Due to the nature of Hentai and the thin line it walks on I whole hardily refuse to negotiate any exceptions to these rules. If you support rape culture or cub porn, or even pedophilia for that matter. I don't want to speak with you nor do business with you period!
Why am I suddenly allowing this?
Reasons...
Prices:
BW line works: $8
Rendered Sketches: $13
Flat colors no background or simple backgrounds (gradient, graphic, ect): $15
CG rendered with no background or a simple backgrounds : $21
CG rendered with detailed background: $25
$3 per additional character
HOWEVER! Keep in mind that these are being made along side my game's development. So these might take a bit longer then normal to complete. An additional week or two depending on what you're asking from me.

The importance of games having an Identity?
Posted 11 years agoOut of all of you guys and gals on my friends list, a number of you are gamers. So I have a question for you all.
How do you all feel about games having an identity? Something that sets them apart from other games of their genre. A unique trait that makes you think "this is Mario" or "This is so Megaman". Something that isn't commonly seen among other games.
The reason I ask this is more because of my own current project. Working on the stage layouts, I've began to worry about rather or not D-Resonate: Sonata of the Phantasm has enough of an identity to set itself apart from other 2D Metroidvania/platformer Hybrids. I won't know this for sure until I'm staring at a finished level. But I figured I could at least get an opinion on just how important it is to give your game and identity. And how you all feel about the concept of Game Identity and rather or not this can stop a game from being enjoyable.

The plans
Posted 11 years agoBetween the Road Test, Getting the Unity2D engine test for "D-Resonate: Sonata of the Phantasm" ready, resuming my job search (important and need money to buy equipment/software), and planing out how I'm going to approach the sound track issue as well as window shopping Music Comp software (current looking at FL studio), and a few other things. The next few months are going to be interesting.
I wonder how much of this I'll actually get done in that time frame. lol
Also the flood of Valerie pics continues because I just haven't gotten tried of drawing her yet. XD In September I'll be able to finish up the enemy and boss concepts that I meant to have up before August as well as new ones I drew during this surprisingly long month.

commissions are now closed and update.
Posted 11 years agoCommissions are closed for now as it will be near impossible for me to make any cgs during August much to my frustration.
Also the concept build of D-Resonate Sonata of The Phantasm has been delayed till December 2014 for the same reasons much to my frustration. Art updates might be dry from.this point on. Till September anyway... It's going to be a long month of nothing getting done...

About Avalice Assassin...
Posted 11 years agoMany of you might not remember this but way back in 2011. I started working on what was essentially going to be a Sci-Fi Fantasy Web Comic series called "Avalice Assassin".
The comic was set in Emerald Garden City. The Capital of "Avalice Kingdom" and set in the same universe, world, and era as the current game project "D-Resonate Sonata of the Phantasm". And was centered around a young laid-back and easy going Knight named Avaleese Sturm. Who over sleeps after stopping to take a nap on the day of her graduation from Avalice Academy. When she awakens later that night. She soon discovers that she's late and rushes off to the castle, where the ceremony is being held. Only to discover that she has been framed for the murder of King Adeline Avalice! Now forced to flee from her home town with the help of Wallace Erde, a traveling merchant. Avaleese sets out on a journey across Avalice Kingdom, searching for clues regarding the death of the King. And to not only clear her name, but also get her honor back as well.
I mentioned in a Chat room to a user that the comic was going to start in 2014. Two years later then planned. Only now we are almost halfway through 2014 and I haven't mentioned anything about the web comic. And well there's a reason for that. At first I was going to do this quitely but then I rememberd all of those times. Where an obscure and favorite comic of mine would vanish without a trace. Leaving me to guess what happened. I didn't want that to happen to Avalice Assassin. Because while it's unlikely that this comic interested that many people. There's still a chance that there are a small few of you who might have been looking forward to this for various reasons. So it's only fare for that unknown few to know what happen to this webcomic and our heroine "Avaleese Sturm".
The Avalice Assassin Web Comic... has been canceled, for a few reasons.
1. Back in 2011, I had the plot direction, begining, climax, and ending planned for it. But was having a hellish time coming up with the actually meat of the story. And slowly began to realize that I may be trying to write a story that was at the time (and probably still is) beyond my abilities as a writer. Rather or not that was true didn't matter. As doubt in my own abilities was starting to kick in.
2. Mischief Knights. After that fell apart in 2012. I wasn't has excited about making another story as I was when I started working on that back in 2008. And was more concerned with trying to at least salvage the characters. Which as you all know I was eventually able to do with the current game project. "D-Resonate Sonata of the Phantasm". Which brings me to the 3rd reason. The final nail in this web comic's coffin.
3. The game project pretty much takes up most of my free time. And while I do take breaks from it to protect my interests and rest as much as possible. I'm normally not in the mode to start drawing comic strips. Since the game is now going to be require even more of my time. And since I now have another person working on the game with me. (an old pal from my High School days) I really don't have time to work on much else. Not to mention the other project I have planned after "D-Resonate Sonata of the Phantasm" which I can't wait to get started on. :) It's very much different from what you folks are use to seeing from me.
So there you have it. the reasons why the comic was canned. But that doesn't mean that Avalice Assassin as an IP is dead. I will revive this story at a later point in life. As a Game instead, and likely my first attempt at making an RPG/JRPG.
Also you all will still see me draw Avaleese from time to time along with some of the other planned characters. She's still one of my favorite designs after all. Just not as frequently. With that out of the way, time to get back to work.
~Kyanbu
I'm sorry but I gotta do this.
Posted 11 years agoAs of today, I am raising my commission prices. For a long time now, I've kept them low feeling that my art just isn't worth charging more then mere pennies.
But even though it technically still isn't worth a lot, I gotta get more per commission. Especially since I very rarely get commissions to begin with.

No, I'm not doing commissions yet. I'll announce when I'm ready. I just wanted to get this out there as a heads up for those planning on commissioning me.

Fantastic news
Posted 11 years agoIn a bit of a surprise from the family, I'll be getting a new tablet in the mail tomorrow! And it comes with a manga studio debut program which If I'm not mistaken can create vector images! Which will be very useful.
A bunch of new sketches will be posted today. These are.
Enemy Concept number018
Boss Concept Number004
and Enemy Concept Number017
Sarina's falling animation may be up later tonight. Also a status update will be sent out to my current client.

My tablet stopped working...Mini Kickstarter time!
Posted 11 years agoUpdate:
If you're wondering why there's been no new sprite animations for the last two days. It's because my Tablet and Stylus stopped working...again... ****.
So I'll be shifting focus towards Enemy Concepts and building the level layouts for awhile.
Starting with Number 017.
http://i120.photobucket.com/albums/.....ps8cf51264.png
Also since with the tablet is on the frets again. It's amazing how completely 100% uninstalling, resetting, re installing, then resetting again over 10 times has literally fixed nothing. Could be interference but this time it's not mouse jitters so that's sadly unlikely. And because even sketch commissions have been bone dry. I'm going to try things from a new approach.
I'm doing my own mini kick stater. my target goal is $150. just enough to get this \/\/\/\/\/\/
http://www.wacom.com/en/us/creative/intuos-manga
or likely this
http://www.wacom.com/en/us/creative/intuos-s
both are $99. But I need enough to clear that plus shipping fees.
Now because I already know I'll be labeled an E-begger (nothing I can do to stop that). At least understand these few things.
1. I'm fully committed to finish this game no matter what. As seen with the recent stream of sprite animations being released near daily. No illness, emergency, money troubles, society, cyber bullying, or real life affairs will stop me from making this game and "Magnarak Tigger" a reality.
2. You do not need to fund the game. It will not stop the game from being made. It'll only help speed things along by replacing my old tablet sooner rather then me taking a gamble on it just being interference again.
3. "Kyanbu, why Wacom? Why not get (insert cheaper off brand) instead?" Because my little Wacom Bamboo Pin tablet was bought in July of 2011. And is just now having problems almost 3 years later. NO other brand comes close to even matching that. And that's Wacom's entry level/cheap devices. This little Intuos will still be working well after this game's completion. plus the software packed with both of them support vector from the looks of it. which will be very useful once I get to developing "Magnarak Tigger" on Unity2D.
If you can fund it. $5, $1, 2 cents, anything. let me know and I'll give you my email. I can only except paypal at the moment. So it must be sent via that. If you can fund it then thank you very much, I'll do my best and give it my all to make sure this game is as refined as possible. If you can't then don't worry about it I understand. A stranger asking other strangers to fund a project is asking a lot out of a person.
Now guess I better start prepping my skills with the mouse.

Update and list of Spells for D-Resonate!
Posted 11 years agoUpdate:
No new animations today as I'm currently working on the frame work for her Double Jump, Starting Wall Slide, and Wall slide animations. I figured out a simple way to handle the wall running without relying on sprite rotation. Technically figured this out months ago but hadn't really had a the chance to mention it till now. Tomorrow I'll be posting two animations. Her double jump and Starting Wall slide Animations. On Friday I'll be posting both her wall slide and falling animations. And I may be able to get her starting wall run animation done that night as well. On Saturday I'll be working on her Moving Jump and Double Jump Animations along with possibly her Normal Attack Animation for Standing. With Sunday being the day I'll spend refining the current animations.
For now here is a list of the names of all of the spells that will be in the game along with there corresponding elements. And to answer another possible question/logic bomb. Dark Spells/techniques/attacks/Skills in this game and all of future "D-Resonate" games (if any) are poison/bio based.

Sorry about that delay folks, updates
Posted 11 years agoDue to technical issues I had to push a few things back. two concept designs of Silvia will probably be ready by tonight. And on Monday I'll be posting revised versions of Sarina's current animations along with her ducking animation.
Tuesday will feature her Double Jump Animation
Wednesday will feature her Starting Wall slide animation and Wall slide animation.
Thursday will feature her starting wall run animation
Friday will feature her wall running animation
And Saturday will consist of refined versions of that week's animations
Sunday being a make up day along with a special rare CG being uploaded.

Serious Question
Posted 11 years agoSerious question. How would you all feel about static (non moving) backgrounds in a 2D side scrolling plat former? Why am I asking this? Because unfortunately I have to announce that "D-Resonate, Sonata of the Phantasm" will not have many if any very active backgrounds. This is because animating highly detailed trees among other things in the background of stages like "Waking Forest" and "Chime Palace" is beyond my abilities.
Here's a list of stages that will have at least a some what lively background and what will be animated in them:
"Waking Forest" Trees will be static but the clouds and wild life won't. mostly just birds and spirits.
"Insomniac Furnace" Mostly gears, machinery, and fire pillars.
"Transit Trance" Other trains passing by in the Background.
"Jazzy Gardens" Same as "Waking Forest", Waterfalls will be animated. No nothing will be hidden in them... that would be too meta.
"Chime Palace" (formally Allegro Chime) mainly clouds and bells.
"Black Towers" Clouds and spirits/phantasms.
"Storm Ruins" Rain, occasional lighting, wind.
And here's a list of stages that will have static Backgrounds.
"Crystal Symphony" aside from snow fall. and I probably won't have it snowing.
"Distortion Vault" nothing
"Lucid Lights" nothing but the buildings of a moon lit city.
"Gateway to Somnus" aside from clouds, and spirits/phantasms, nothing.
"Fatal Cadenza" Given that this is intended to be a hard stage, it's for the better.
"Final Waltz" secret till after release
Of course of the Backgrounds in each stage will be split into layers for parallax scrolling.
For anyone hoping for lively backgrounds, sorry but that's too much for one guy.

Commission might be opening back up soon.
Posted 12 years agoProbably going to be opening up Commissions again. Mainly to save up money for a Playstation Vita. Nothing important or necessary. Been shopping around for good prices and with the slim on the way. I might be better off getting that depending on how long it take me to reach $210.
More details once I'm ready.

Status update for Sonata of the Phantasm
Posted 12 years agoEnemy Numbers #015 and #016 will be posted later tonight as I finish them. Boss Concept #01 and #02 will probably be up around Sunday or Monday. Also an early test build for "Waking Forest" stage layout will probably be up that week. Though that depends on how bad the Snow Storm will be this weekend and rather or not I still have power on Sunday and Monday.
As for other stuff. A second Valentines Day CG will be up that week as well.

Waking Forest stage layout 35% Done!!!
Posted 12 years agoStatus Update:
The level layout for the stage "Waking Forest" is 35% done. Only place holder blocks right now though. At the rate I'm going I should have the level completely planned out by mid next week.
Since "Waking Forest" and "Black Towers" where the planned levels for the stencyl engine test.
Me having a test build (with a working sprite for Sarina and a few Enemy Phantasms, NPC, and a boss) ready by Summer 2014 is looking very likely right now.
Unity's will probably be next year or sooner depending on rather or not I can do what I want to do with Stencyl's gear.

Updates: Colored Commissions are open also...
Posted 12 years agoI was able to get my Wacom Tablet working again. Basically on a random impose, I plugged my tablet in and... it's working again... My tablet can't seem to make up it's mind on rather or not it feels like working. This really makes me wonder what's the actual cause of the problem. One minute it's completely dead for days and then suddenly it's working fine. Maybe the radio trans inside it really is dying... Can't wait till I'm able to replace the tablet (or pin) and finally have something stable again. I got one commission so far. Little by little I'm getting there.
Also in light of this sudden stroke of luck and my progress with the mouse. Colored CG commissions are now open as well. Also working on Sarina's Jogging Sprite Animation might be done by this weekend.

Progress with the mouse
Posted 12 years agoAfter several days of practice. I'm able to draw with a Mouse well. But the lack of control still hurts my speed and accuracy.
But by using my usual techniques and methods in a different way. I'm able to color almost as well as I could with the wacom tablet. By that I mean i can mimic the same results by relying on the smudge tool to make up for the lack of pressure sensitivity through more smudging and relying more on my custom soft brushes. Zooming in by 1100% when I need to apply detail to improve steadiness and control.
Sadly it's still not as fast as the graphics tablet method. And drawing hair the way I usually do with a mouse is very difficult but at least doable. lol
I'll be posting the results of my practice sometime during this week or next week. Gonna keep practicing with the mouse while I gather funds to replace the stylus to my Wacom Bamboo Pen Tablet.
5$ Sketch Commissions are still open to those who wish to help. My target goal is $40. $30 plus enough to cover shipping costs and sales tax.
