Waterways E-book Updated!
Posted 7 years agoHey everyone, sorry that took so long, but I've just sent the updated Waterways e-book (which includes the new stories and illos) to Bad Dog Books, Amazon, Google, iBooks, Kobo, and NOOK. It's listed just as Waterways, not as a new book or anything, so by the weekend you should be able to request an updated version from wherever you bought it from, which is a process you should figure out with whomever that is. I am terrible at tech support for e-book retailers so I will not be able to tell you how to do this for your version.
Thanks for your patience and enjoy the updates!

Furry Fiesta Schedule!
Posted 7 years agoHey, I'll be at TFF, um, tomorrow! From Friday through Sunday I'll probably be skulking around the FurPlanet table to sign your lovely books and smile and wag, and when I'm not there I will be doing a bunch of panels. Here's my schedule:
Friday
8 pm: Book Reading--I usually read from an unpublished work, so come hear something from a WIP. Maybe the second Calatians book, or maybe Ty Game.
Saturday
11 am: Commission Writing & Patreon
6 pm: Shorter vs Longer Works
7:30 pm: RAWR: The Furry Residential Writing Workshop
Sunday
10:30 am: Marketing Yourself
2 pm: Script Writing
Come say hi at the table or at one of the panels! It's gonna be a fun con. :)

Further Confusion 2018 Schedule
Posted 7 years agoHey guys! I'm gonna be at FC again in *checks watch* eight hours or so, and here's where you can come listen to me yap about stuff if you feel so inclined. When not yapping in a panel I will be yapping behind the Sofawolf table, next to the FurPlanet table, so you should come by and say hi! NOTED AUTHOR and fellow RAWR instructor Ryan Campbell will also be behind the table sometimes, and either of us will be happy to sign books for you. I don't have anything new since MFF, but Camouflage and the Waterways 10th Anniversary edition hardcover will both be here at FC for the first time, as will The Tower and the Fox!

Camouflage e-book update!
Posted 7 years agoHey, just a quick note to let you know that Camouflage is now (or should be very soon) out on the Kindle store, Nook store, iTunes, Google Play, and Kobo, and it remains on sale from baddogbooks.com. So, you know, if you were waiting...
Ponderings and Personal Stuff
Posted 7 years agoI wrote some stuff over on my blog over the last week and if you don't follow me there or on Twitter, here are a couple links 'cuz I think they're important posts.
1. Last week I wrote about one of the core parts of being furry that a lot of media miss: http://kyellgold.com/wpblog/2017/12.....urry-identity/
2. Today I wrote about a big (positive) change in my personal life (well, it didn't HAPPEN today but I'm finally telling you guys about it today): http://kyellgold.com/wpblog/2018/01.....love-personal/
If you've got the time, take a look over them. I promise it's shorter than getting distracted on Twitter. :) And happy 2018 everyone! As I said on Twitter, let's help make it great for each other.

Holiday Busy
Posted 7 years agoHey all,
If you've sent me an email in the past month or so and I haven't replied, sorry! The holidays have been busy and I've got a deadline I'm working toward and email is the thing that falls through the cracks. But I have all your emails open in tabs and will respond as I have time.
Thanks for your patience. Happy holidays and new year!

My MFF schedule (or, what to know if you want a signed book)
Posted 8 years agoMy panels at MFF are all in the Lambert Room in the Hyatt, where the writing track is. Here's where to find me:
FRIDAY
1:30-3 pm: Character and Dialogue
3-6 pm (approx): Signing new releases "Camouflage" and hardcover tenth anniversary edition of "Waterways" in Dealer Den at the FurPlanet/Sofawolf tables (see directory for location)
6:30-7:30 pm: Scene and Story Structure
7:30-8:30 pm: RAWR: A Furry Writing Workshop
SATURDAY
11 am: New Release Reading (I will read from "Camouflage")
12-2:30 (approx): Signing in Dealer Den
3-4 pm: What It Takes to Write: Process, Discipline, and Lifestyle
4:30-6 (approx): Signing in Dealer Den
9-10:30 pm: Adult Writing
SUNDAY
TBD but at some point in the morning I'll be signing in the dealer den.
3-4 pm: Westerns and Historical Fiction
You will notice that on Friday, the dealer's den opens at 1 pm and I have a panel at 1:30. This means that I will likely not be in the dealer's den for very long after opening, if at all, especially as the den and panels are in two separate buildings. So how about you guys come to the 1:30 panel and then follow me back to the dealer den and I'll sign a bunch of books?
General signing policy: I vastly prefer to sign books in the dealer den rather than at panels. However, if I am early to a panel and not otherwise busy (like scarfing down lunch in the five minutes before the panel), and your request doesn't delay the start of the panel, I'll sign stuff then. In most cases I have to leave the panel quickly to let the next one set up and also because I'm running off somewhere else, so after a panel isn't a great time to ask me for a quickie signature.
In other circumstances, if you see me around, use your judgment. I'm happy to take a moment and sign a book, but if I'm having a one-on-one chat with someone, or if I'm eating, then I greatly appreciate you respecting my time and holding off until a dealer den signing, or at least a less busy time. If you're not sure, then ask! I am always glad to at least say hi to a fan, and if you ask, "When would be the next good time to get you to sign a book?" I may offer to sign it right there. Or I might say, "I need to go meet some people but I'll be in the dealer den tomorrow."
(And along those lines, feel free to come up and say hi if you see me around the con!)
In the end, I want everyone who wants a signed book to get one. So hopefully I'll see you guys in the dealer's den and around the con, and if you want a signature, let's make sure you get it. :)

Waterways Ordering Details
Posted 8 years agoIf you missed the tweet about it, here's all the info on the Sofawolf site: https://t.co/cJvpT8z3YJ
If you want a NUMBERED signed copy, act fast to get a lower number. Otherwise you can get the book at MFF, where I will be around to sign it. Once we sell 160 books, we'll stop doing numbered copies but if you order before December 3rd you can still get a signed one.
You can also get other books of mine from Sofawolf signed! If you've been waiting to get anything, now's the time. :) They make great Christmas presents, I'm told (I've never gotten one of my own books for Christmas so I can't say personally).
Again, here's the info -> https://t.co/cJvpT8z3YJ

Waterways Hardcover Pre-order Pre-Announcement!
Posted 8 years agoHey guys! If you want one of the snazzy new Waterways hardcover books with the BRAND NEW STORY in it, and the BRAND NEW ILLUSTRATIONS, you'll have a chance to pre-order one from Sofawolf starting next week sometime. There'll be details on the Sofawolf blog this weekend and I'll copy them or point to them here.
We will be signing and numbering the first 160 orders, and when I say "we" I mean *I* will be signing them and hand-numbering them. There will be no extension of the numbering--when 160/160 is sold, that's it.
If you want to order other books of mine or publications I'm in (like Heat), you can do this at the same time and I'll sign those as well. And of course you can also order other Sofawolf books, like Ryan Campbell's excellent Fire Bearers series, but I will not sign those.
The pre-orders can be picked up at MFF, probably (pending Sofawolf confirming that), or they will be sent out the week after the con, because I'm not flying up to Minnesota to sign them until after MFF. They should arrive in time for Christmas if you want to get one as a gift for someone (again, pending Sofawolf confirming).
Keep an eye out and save up $40 for next week!

Get Signed Books from Sofawolf!
Posted 8 years agoJust a heads up, all! I'm going to be flying out to Sofawolf HQ to sign a bunch of the Waterways Tenth Anniversary hardcover (https://www.furaffinity.net/journal/8450548/ ) so as per usual there will be a chance for you to get ANY of my books, issues of Heat I'm in, books I've edited, etc. signed! If you've been holding off on getting print copies of the Out of Position series, the Dangerous Spirits books, In the Doghouse of Justice, the Argaea series, or any of my other Sofawolf titles, keep an eye out for the upcoming announcement from Sofawolf (where you will also be able to pre-order the Waterways hardcover).
Of course, I'll also be at MFF and you will be able to pick up the Waterways hardcover there if you're going (or if someone you trust is going).
For signed FurPlanet/Argyll books, it'll probably be another few months, but when I'm down there for TFF we'll see if we can't do a signing event as well.

Camouflage coming out in print at MFF
Posted 8 years agoHey, as I have announced previously, Camouflage will be coming out from Argyll Productions at MFF, on sale at the FurPlanet table. I'm doing a last proofing run on it right now and am very glad that I still love this story.
rukis will be doing the artwork for it and the in-progress work I've seen is amazing (as usual); she and/or I will be sharing it once we have a little more of it ready.
There will also be an e-book of course, and the book will be on sale online after MFF and it will be at future cons and I do not have an audiobook in process yet but will hope to get one; basically all the things that are true of every book I release are also true of this one. I'll keep the original draft up on my blog, so if you want you can go back and compare the new final text to that one and see a little of my process. :)

Waterways Tenth Anniversary Edition
Posted 8 years ago(Sorry, I keep forgetting to cross-post here. My blog is at http://www.kyellgold.com/wpblog and all posts get pushed to Twitter, so keep an eye out there too!)
Hey, since I recently mentioned having finished a new story about Kory and Samaki, I thought I'd make a more or less official announcement about the upcoming re-release of Waterways at MFF.
Waterways originally came out in January of 2008 and we thought it would be nice to celebrate the tenth anniversary with a hardcover edition, since it remains pretty popular and it's never had a hardcover release. So since we were spiffing up the outside, I thought I'd like to spiff up the inside as well. The prose is over ten years old and there are definitely places where I could clean it up. Don't worry, I'm not changing the story or any of your favorite lines.
We didn't want to just release the same story with the same art in hardcover, so I'll be adding two new stories--well, one that I wrote for my Patreon a couple years ago and one brand new one. The Patreon one is called "Turbulence" and follows Kory's brother Nick after Kory goes off to college. The brand new one (which I was tweeting about) follows Kory and Samaki as they face some of the challenges of moving to college and learning more about each other. Both of these are short stories (10K and 6K words respectively), and
cooner has agreed to draw an illo for "Turbulence" to be included in this edition.
The book is being published by Sofawolf and will be available on their site after MFF, and at future conventions (though they tend to bring limited numbers of hardcovers to cons, so get there early if you want one after MFF). We haven't discussed whether to update the paperback yet or not, but I'll update the e-book sometime in December or January to include the new text, stories, and art. I don't have plans right now to produce a new audiobook.
Anyway, hope you guys will all enjoy the nice new hardcover edition and the new stories and illo! I'll be there at MFF for the release to sign copies for you guys, and also at FC in January.
(And btw, Camouflage is also coming out at MFF, from Argyll Productions/FurPlanet. More about that later.)

Tower and the Fox e-book
Posted 8 years agoHey hey hey! If you want to celebrate the American Revolution with a Revolutionary-era fantasy book with furries and magic school, check out my new book "The Tower and the Fox," now available in e-book form from baddogbooks. If you are stuck on one of the big retailers, it'll be out on those platforms in August. I'm working on an audio version but it'll be some months.
Mostly gone this week--RAWR and BLFC
Posted 8 years agoSo hey guys, I'm teaching at RAWR this week (http://rawr.community) and then I'll be at BLFC. So mostly offline except for some tweets here and there.
I'm not doing any panels at BLFC but if you find a certain
kenket in the dealer's room, I might be skulking by the table she's perched on. I don't have books with me but if you bring a book, I'll have pens to sign them with. Also I think Rabbit Valley will be around so if you get a book of mine from them, I will sign it. But if you see me, I'll be chilling, so don't be afraid to come say hi!

The Naming of Foxes
Posted 8 years agoI have a guest post up at Entropy Magazine about fursonas and pseudonyms: https://entropymag.org/name-tags-1-fursonas/
It's one of the first places I'm publicly linking my real name and pseudonym, partly because I don't care as much about hiding it now, partly because "The Tower and the Fox" will be coming out under my real name, so I want my fans to know that it's also mine.
Anyway, you guys all know about fursonas but this might make a good reference if you're trying to explain it to someone else. :)

FurDU!
Posted 8 years agoHey! If you're one of my Down Under fans, you can see me NEXT WEEKEND at FurDU! I'm super-excited to be going and to meet a bunch of new people, so I hope you'll come and say hi!
I'm leaving today (Saturday) and for the next week and a half or so I'll be traveling and touristing about northeastern Australia, so notes and email and other attempts to contact me may go unanswered until after May 10. I'll probably be on Twitter most of the time though, because of course I will.
The newsletter is going out today just to get it out of the way and the Patreon should get updated Wednesday per normal and I will tweet if there are glitches (but let's hope not). Otherwise, see all you lovely people either in Australia or back here in a week and a half! *wag*

Me @ TFF
Posted 8 years agoHey! I'm going to be at Texas Furry Fiesta this weekend, and below is a short list of my panels. When I'm not in a panel, chances are I'll be around FurPlanet or Rukis's table in the dealer's room, where I will be happy to sign things for y'all!
Friday 8:30 pm Write Now!
--Jakebe and I will talk about the structure of short stories and then you will have time to start a short story of your own! Bring something to write with!
Friday 9:30 pm Adult Writing 101
--The old standby. Me and Sasuke and Rechan will talk about what goes into a good furry erotica story.
Sat 12n RAWR Year Two
--Alkani Serval and I will talk about the first furry residential writing workshop, our experiences in year one, the status for year two, and our hopes for the future.
Sat 3:30 pm Publisher Q&A
--I suspect Rechan and I will mostly listen to Fuzzwolf, one of the actual publishers from FurPlanet, talk about publisher stuff. If people want to talk about publishing e-books, I can talk about that, I guess.
Sat 4:30 pm Storytelling in Different Mediums
--I'm excited about this one, sitting with Rukis and Vahn Fox to talk about stories in prose, graphic novels, and video games.
Sun 1 pm Knotsheathed
--This is the panel I'm most looking forward to, because I get to sit down with Fuzzwolf and talk about anything we want for like an hour. Also there will be some dazzling tech stuff from Carrizo KitFox!
Sun 2:30 pm Scene Building
--Rechan and I will talk about how to construct a scene, if I still have a voice left after an hour podcast.
Sun 3:30 pm Novel Writing
--Interested in writing a novel? Having trouble with your manuscript? I'll talk about novels and structure and will be happy to take your questions. This one is just me, so please come and keep me company!

Twelve Sides paperback available!
Posted 8 years agoLast year I published an e-book only collection of the short stories I wrote for my Patreon, called "Twelve Sides." This year I decided to try out Amazon's new print program with that book. So if you want a print copy of "Twelve Sides," you can get it at Amazon now! This is the first time I've done this so I'm interested to hear about the quality of the books. And if you'd like to get them signed, you have time to order them before coming to TFF and seeing me there. :)
Also, international folks! I'm curious how the shipping works for you, like, is Amazon printing these locally, are they available in all the countries, etc. Especially if you're coming to FurDU...
As with the e-book on sale at Amazon, I did not include all six of the illos in the original e-book (on sale at baddogbooks.com and other furry sites). The major retailer e-books have two illos; the print version has three, because I decided to add back in one that isn't quite as explicit. Hopefully it'll be okay.

Over Time Bonus Story coming soon!
Posted 8 years agoBecause you guys bought up a thousand copies (and more) of Over Time (thank you so much, you guys are awesome!), I'm writing a short bonus story that will be posted for free on my FA and SoFurry sites sometime in March probably.
But if you'd like a sneak preview, you could sign up for my mailing list before Monday: http://bit.ly/kyellmail . It goes out once a month and your email address isn't used for any other purpose. You get info on all my projects coming up and writing tips every month, as well as sneak peeks at stories I'm working on. So if you've ever wondered when a new book is coming out...or been surprised to see a new title...here's your solution. :)
[EDIT: Link should work now. Trailing periods argh.]

Happy Valentine's Day!
Posted 8 years agoIf you've got someone(s) to spend your day with, may you have a lovely happy day, and remember Dan Savage's advice: sex before dinner.
If you don't have someone to spend the day with, don't despair! Spend it with yourself or your other single friends and have a great time. And remember, I didn't meet my husband until we were both in our thirties. I have friends and relatives who didn't find their partners until their fifties. It might seem a long time to wait, but if you're open to a relationship and you're happy with yourself, I feel confident that you'll find someone to share your life with. And the good news is that our society is increasingly accepting of whatever your relationship looks like. Be yourself, and accept others for themselves.
(This is not the post to talk about the movements to roll that back; that'll come tomorrow.)
Me, I'm cooking dinner at the house and we'll do our dinner out tomorrow, because by the time we thought about making plans everything for tonight was booked. So we kind of get two Valentine's Days! <3

Love Match e-book available!
Posted 8 years agohttps://baddogbooks.com/product/love-match/
It'll be out on all the other retailers as of March 1. The print version is also out from FurPlanet, in case you missed that. The e-book has color versions of some of the illustrations as well as an uncropped version of the one adult-ish pic (FurPlanet cropped out the sheathy bits in the print version so they could sell it without the Adult label).
If you'd like to know what's on my agenda for the rest of the year, a great way is to sign up for my monthly newsletter at http://bit.ly/kyellmail . I only send updates once a month and I often tell newsletter subscribers about things before they're official or before I tell the rest of the world. PLUS you get to read excerpts of upcoming books and a writing tip in each newsletter. The next one comes out on Monday so sign up this weekend!
