WHAT I LEARNED IN COLLEGE IS...
Posted 14 years ago... I DON'T HAVE TIME FOR ANYTHING GAAAAAH.
This place keeps me a whole lot more busy than where I transferred from. I sketch some, but I've not really finished anything. I write a lot, but that's... words. It just happens to be more convenient to do.
SO, because of that, I gotta ask ya'll a question:
Would you be interested in my writing and sketches? If so, I could show ya'll a looooot of stuff, but none of it is inked or colored. I could probably also start posting bits and pieces to some stories involving Baojia's world and his mythos. Would anyone be interested in that, so it doesn't seem like this account is utterly dead?
At some point, at my roommate's demand, I have to draw a vampire werewolf zombie. I hope you guys are ready for that, hahaha.

SO I'M PRETTY SURE MY ROOMMATE HATES ME
Posted 14 years agoMy sister bought me Left 4 Dead for my birthday (which is the... newest non-DS game I have, hahaha) so I could play with her online. I'm practicing shooting with a weird mouse and a laptop that loathes me, LOL.
And my headphone jack is broken, so I'm pretty sure my roomie hates me. Only not really.
SINCE SHE IS LISTENING TO A REALLY BAD DUB OF THE LION KING. So we're even. :B

Uh...
- Go fig, Morrowind art. Also the first thing I posted to this account, methinks. While it took me a metric shit-ton of time to finish and it was pretty much the first piece that made me realize backgrounds were a GOOD thing, looking back on it, all I can see is how... bad it is. So, while it is gratifying to see something I put a lot of effort into got a chunk of attention, I can't help but feel embarrassed that it's... that.
2. Post a link to your entry with the most favorites: if there is a tie, just post the top most one.

- Again, one of those "this is old and kind of bad but at least I worked hard on it" things. It still is a favorite, though, if only because of the colors.
3. Post a link to an entry you can't understand why so many people favorited, because in your own opinion, it doesn't deserve them.
At least it was only forty-some people.
- I cannot understand. I just can't. It's... I... uh...?
4. Post a link to an entry that got the most comments.
This.
- Although I tend to talk a lot in comments and half of the time I end up with a ton because I wind up in a conversation. Except as of late, though. UGH GUYS I'M SORRY. D:
5. Post a link to an entry of your OWN personal favorite drawing (post up to five).

Happy Birthday to Meeeee
Posted 14 years agoI am now twenty-two. Or, in the words of a girl in my design class, "Woman, you old." :P
VERY TEMPTED TO BLOW MONEY ON DESSERT FOR LUNCH. There are cafes afoot all over the place, and I think I am worthy of such a thing. Though, to be honest, my biggest birthday present came in the form of being able to take a shower without a soul coming into the bathroom. </still adjusting to not having own bathroom>
Also helps that I was up at 5:30 this morning (yay, this place has already warped my sleep schedule~).

So Exhausted...
Posted 14 years agoBut hi, guys! I am moved temporarily into a new college. First time not living off campus despite being technically a junior. I am getting a late start. Shush. :C
But, uh... haha, it's preeeetty nice here. My roommate seems pretty rad, and my sister dragged me around all day yesterday (by my request; I get lost easy) and I'm... currently in a text message battle over seating arrangements? LOL.
I like it here. Haha, is nice. Much homier and friendlier than where I was going. Pretty, too~
How you guys? :D

FFFFF. Still So DEAD.
Posted 14 years agoI'm finally skipping town on Saturday. myokitsune will be helping me drag stuff away. Yaaaaay. Meeting with my future boss on Tuesday. I'll be working with the art department on campus, though, so... *thumbs up*
Once I'm settled and stuff, I'll try to be active again. Hell, I will. I got stuff I need to finish and fffff. ;_;
Hi, my name is Ras, and I babble like a dumb shit when I'm stressed out and have nothing better to talk about.

Sorry, Duders. :<
Posted 14 years agoI feel kind of bad that I've been so distant. It's kind of THE ELEVENTH HOUR for me since I'm leaving for my new college on the 20th. I'm kinda stressed out, trying to cram in all the things I forgot to do, and make room for all the things I want to do but won't have time to once the semester starts. I'll be working and going to school full time, so if I want to do anything for myself... er, I MAY WANNA DO IT NOW.
Because, the last time I tried that, I lost complete track of my priorities and crashed and burned. So I'm gonna be all business this time, since I won't have second chances.
So if I seem gone-ish? I'm still around, albeit sparingly. And I do seriously feel bad about not having art or even conversation right now (especially the latter; the reason I even post anymore is because I love talking to ya'll, haha).
If you need to get a hold of me, your best chances are notes. If you just WANT to get a hold of me, feel free to note me, too. :B
I LOVE YOU GUYS, OKAY? FFFF.

The Meme of VIDEO GAEMS
Posted 14 years agoDay 1 - First video game you ever played:
For the sake of ease, I'll say Bubble Bobble. It... wasn't, but my memory is foggy because it was a long time ago. Before I had an NES, we had a neighbor with an SNES and my mom's friend had a Genesis. I can vaguely remember things like Sonic and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (and Mortal Kombat with the neighbor's teenage daughter, who... didn't care that I was, like, five), but Bubble Bobble? Er, it's the first one I remember the most vividly.
Day 2 - Your favorite character:
I have a few, but I love Balthier, Torque, and Kain. They're probably my top three of all time. Kinda funny to think the only not-murderous one in that lot is Balthier and, uh, he's a criminal regardless. I also really like Quick Man. NO IDEA WHY, I JUST DO.
Day 3 - A game that is underrated:
I dunno? I don't really care IF anyone else plays the games I like. I guess the closest ones I can think of are the Panzer Dragoon series, but it seems it's not nearly as unknown as I thought it was when I was younger.
Day 4 - Your guilty pleasure game:
Dear god, The Suffering. Tell me it sucks all you want, but I know that game inside, outside, and upside down. I know how to fight the Kool-Aid man in the second game, all the secret phones in the first, and I can count down the seconds to shit dropping out of the ceiling. I have beaten the first one a billion times, and I love it. I don't care if people think it's mediocre, it is my baby.
Day 5 - Game character you feel you are most like (or wish you were):
I think that half the reason I love Kanji Tatsumi from Persona 4 is that he reminds me a lot of me. I fear rejection pretty badly and I have issues with owning up to myself. The only thing is that I think that if you fought my inner self, it wouldn't be the most homoerotic thing you've ever seen.
Day 6 - Most annoying character:
Oh my god, Double H from Beyond Good and Evil. Ivan and I tried to ban him from my hovercraft because he would not shut up. If he says "Carlson and Peters" one more time, I'm going to ram my camera down his fucking throat.
Day 7 - Favorite game couple:
BUB AND BOB. But, no. Seriously, I think the only one I stand behind is Balthier and Fran. Ivan would probably contest that with his official P4 couple.
Day 8 - Best soundtrack:
I like a few, like the JGR/JSRF soundtracks and (recently) Persona 4. Shadow Hearts is pretty awesome, too. I'm a sucker for NES Megaman music, though. Quick Man FFFFF. <3
Day 9 - Saddest game scene:
Don 't tell, but I whined like a puppy at the end of Legacy of Kain: Defiance. I had been growing with that game since accidentally playing Blood Omen, so the end was kind of like a smack to the face since I had YEARS to grow attached to the characters.
Day 10 - Best gameplay:
Fuck, I like Morrowind. I love Morrowind. I like being told to do whatever I want. I like breaking into houses just to see what's in there, or swiping the shit of an ancient wizard from right in front of his nose and running away. I like getting stuck in glaciers fighting werewolves, giants, and gods. I like climbing steep mountains to punch half-naked men in the throat. I like jumping across roofs instead of walking like a normal person. I like clannfears. Morrowind is just so free (yet simple, without making it piss-ant easy) that I just fucking LOVE IT.
Day 11 - Gaming system of choice:
My NES has been broken for years, and I just recently obtained a replacement N64 and Dreamcast. And a Gamecube (thanks, Ivan :D). So, for years? I've been stuck with just an Xbox and PS2. I prefer stuff on my PS2 a bit more, but they both stay plugged up all of the time because I switch back and forth so much.
Day 12 - A game everyone should play:
Somebody play Guild Wars with me, waaaaaaaaaah.
Day 13 - A game you’ve played more than five times:
Pffft, I don't have a lot of money to buy new games (or new consoles, hence the most new thing I have is a DS), so I tend to play my games over and over and over in cycles, usually with new objectives or restrictions placed by myself. As such, it's hard to say what I own that I haven't played more than five times. The Suffering in particular is really funny, because I have maxed out the number of save slots, cleared a few out, and then maxed it out again. The game allows forty.
Day 14 - Current (or most recent) gaming wallpaper:
Er, right now it's Princess Luna, which I decided to get after playing all the Luna Games. Does that count? If not, I think I had Karsaga as my wallpaper, which I guess counts since he's my main Morrowind character.
Day 15 - Post a screenshot from the game you’re playing right now:
Okay. And yes, I scrolled through a bunch of stuff on Google because I wanted a picture that had Kanji in it. Shush.
Day 16 - Game with the best cut scenes:
I really like how flowy everything is in Okami. It's like comic books and traditional art merged together, and the colors are so fluid and the lines so pretty. I love it. ;_;
Day 17 - Favorite antagonist:
Dr. Killjoy, no doubt about it. He's a villain you can't hate, no matter how hard you try. Hell, he's a villain you can't believe IS a bad guy, because he seems to think he's helping. Aside from him? Albedo. That fucker is skafjklfjadkf.
Day 18 - Favorite protagonist:
I seriously think Kain. It was really fun to watch him "grow" over time, morphing from ignorant noble to power-hungry tyrant to driven hero. It's so gradual and believable and he never stops being "that arrogant jerk," though he becomes a likeable arrogant jerk. Best part is that he shifts from "tyrant" to "hero" in Soul Reaver, so you legitimately think he's the bad guy while he's trying to fix everything he broke.
Day 19 - Picture of a game setting you wish you lived in:
This.
Day 20 - Favorite genre:
I really like RPGs, but I'm not picky. I just have a thing about sports and "realistic" racing games. I guess that I don't have it in me to play through games that involve things I could do in everyday life. Why emulate a real activity when I could be killing monsters instead?
Day 21 - Game with the best story:
Legacy of Kain series has a bitchin' story, but so does Panzer Dragoon if you can follow it, hahaha.
Day 22 - A game sequel which disappointed you:
Ties That Bind let me down in a lot of ways, but I still like it since they dropped the whole "blank character" thing and started filling Torque out. If you wanna talk major disappointment: Oblivion. I wanted to like Oblivion SO BAD because I am a massive Morrowind freak, but it just dropped the ball so fucking hard. They took Morrowind, dumbed it down, threw it into a generic fantasy setting, and gave people mush faces. I mean, DAGGERFALL had more personality than Oblivion. Sure, they saved some face with Shivering Isles (hey, even if I cringe about Oblivion, I'll give credit where credit is due; Shivering Isles is fucking awesome), but really? It just seemed so BLAND to me until Sheogorath, you know?
Day 23 - Game you think had the best graphics or art style:
JSRF. Shush. I also like the way they drew the characters in Devil Survivor a WHOLE LOT. Especially Atsuro and Gin. Gin is probably my favorite, though.
Day 24 - Favorite classic game:
Bubble Bobble. I also kick the asses at Centipede. And... oooh, ooh. Does anyone else know about Shufflepuck Cafe? I had it on my old computer (IT WAS A REALLY OLD COMPUTER, OKAY?) and sdkaskljsklj fuck. That ate so much of my life. I never beat Bif.
Day 25 - A game you plan on playing:
Devil Survivor 2, whenever it comes out. Bring it on, homie. I'll be waiting. >:C
Day 26 - Best voice acting:
Believe it or not: Ties That Bind. It seems weird that a horror game that nobody plays would have good voice acting, but it does. Granted, the dude who does Blackmore and Torque's voice is, uh, Michael Clark Duncan. You know, the big dude from The Green Mile?
Day 27 - Most epic scene ever:
Breakdown is full of them, though I guess most of it is because you see everything (even the "cut scenes") through the protagonist's eyes. Most of them involve Solus, too. Hiding under a desk while he walks in with a dead scientist by the throat, or when he falls out of the fucking ceiling and just starts throwing you around like a fucking ragdoll. That one made me nervous when I first played it, 'cause he just knocks you against a window and keeps pushing. I thought I messed up and had gotten myself killed.
Day 28 - Favorite game developer:
Don't have one! I have no real brand loyalty. I just like what I like.
Day 29 - A game you thought you wouldn’t like, but ended up loving:
Persona 4. I was pretty adamant I didn't want to play it because I had seen it before and wasn't very impressed. Then, at andren's apartment, he was playing it and I... uh, realized that there was more to it than what I had been exposed to. Now I have myokitsune's copy, and I'm trying to finish it before I take off on the 20th.
Day 30 - Your favorite game of all time:
Morrowind, Morrowind. Dear god, Morrowind. I have been playing the same character for... uh... eight years? It spans a few save files, but yeah. I fucking love Morrowind. I fucking love the vanilla game, the modding community, the glitches, the EVERYTHING. Morrowind pride, yo.

SO HI
Posted 14 years agoI've been at Andren and Mooshay's place for the past, uh... two weeks or so? I initially went to kill time with Ivan on his birthday so he didn't spend it alone, and then we ended up in D.C. the day before yesterday to look at dinosaur bones.
It was pretty bad ass. I've never seen big-ass fossils before. |3
I did, however, hurt my throat while doing silly voices and blabbering into the back of their heads on long car drives, making "stories" of their junk mail in an effort to keep Ivan awake on the ride back and both entertained during traffic jams. I also learned that Ivan has the uncanny ability to piss lizards off by looking at them.
Now I am home, though. *thumbs up*
First thing that happened was a wolf spider crawled up my pants and bit me.
IT WAS PRETTY METAL and by that I mean I panicked because I thought it was a completely different spider for all of ten minutes.
BUT YEAH I HAVE RETURNED. WHOOOOO.

Is It Just Me...
Posted 14 years ago... Or does anyone else feel really happy when they go to check people's page and see that they're a species other than "cat" or "dog?"
I have a tendency to go check out every person who faves or watches me if I don't recognize the name, and it makes me happy when I see somebody who makes an unorthodox character that works. Like, you know, today it was a Tasmanian Devil and I know there is the COMPSOGNATHUS WHO KNOWS WHO THEY ARE. That is awesome.
PIRANHA DINOSAUR. >:C
Not that there's anything wrong with more mundane animals (hi, my characters are a dog and a hyena, and my favorite non-representational character is a giant cat), but I just love seeing new species being made into characters. ;u;
IF I FIND A COELACANTH CHARACTER I WILL DIE HAPPY.

Code Red. Code Yellow. Code Veronica.
Posted 14 years agoActually, it's probably more of a Code Astronaut or something. I dunno.
HI, GUYS.
Just here to spread the word not to click links on journals for a bit because there's a good 95% chance that it is virus-laden and bad for your computer's health. The more you know, you know?
So, yeah. If there is a link, leave it alone, especially if it starts with "astronaut." I don't remember the whole URL and even if I did I dunno if I'd post it because it'd show up as a link and somebody would PULL A ME and click it accidentally. Hahaha.

Character Questions? <:D
Posted 14 years agoI tried something similar once before, but never got around to finishing it because I had sudden-academic-demands-that-took-me-away-from-Mr. Computer. So, I figured I'd try it now because I am bored. And art-blocky. And sometimes, talking about my characters gets me out of the art block, because eventually one of them slaps me across the face and says, "HI, DRAW ME."
SO.
If you wanna ask questions about my characters or, hell, ask questions OF my characters, feel free. Perhaps the babble will break up the ANTI-ART FOG on my mind~

I Want to Prove a Theory
Posted 14 years agoAnd so I ask you all an important question.
... Have you ever been mad at a duck before?
... Have you ever been mad at a duck before?
I Want to PUNCH A BEAR
Posted 14 years agoI'm getting ready to jet, but I just found something out and it MADE ME MAD so I want to fume at the Internet. It's safer to fume at the Internet than to subject the people I'm meeting up with to, uh, the horrors of me yelling for an hour about the same subject. At every available opportunity.
Forever.
I recently found out that one of my favorite teachers from high school was laid off, despite having tenure, because they viewed her as being less useful than a coach. She's a business skills teacher (I took a keyboarding and business law class with her before I graduated in 2007).
This makes me especially angry because, not only were those skills useful, she was probably one of very few at the school that actually gave a damn about students. Because of her, we were spared a lot of shit that would have been unfair to us and her fellow teachers because she was not afraid to back down from a fight. She stood up for kids who were picked on for sexual orientation, race, religion, poverty level, or whatever other reason. Hell, she was the final push that got me to finally go to college, because she realized that--a year after I graduated--I still was kind of hanging around in a dead end town when "you need to get out of here and make something of yourself."
And I'm not the only person she pushed to better themselves.
... But obviously golf or whatever is more important than having somebody who teaches usable skills and who wants the best for the students. :|
Gotdammit, why Miss Browning of everyone there?
Ugh, Miss Browning...maybe it's for the best. That school is collapsing anyway, and you deserve better than teaching in a crappy school with crappy people who probably only got rid of you for snapping at somebody for using the word "fag" or actually voicing your opinion on the stupid decisions they make. I mean, they DID dig for reasons to fire Miss Haefele because she wasn't white...
... You know, despite the fact that she was the only Spanish teacher who was 100% fluent in the language because it was her native tongue, and she was always helping poor students who couldn't afford food or clothes or whatever.
Middlesboro High School, there was a reason I hated you. You take everything good life gives you, spit on it, and then laugh in their face. :|

I'm Building an Army
Posted 14 years agoToday is the day that I have decided that pollen must be destroyed, because my seasonal allergies have crippled me for the day. Though I have fallen, you can carry on in my name. Band together, my brothers, and punch nature in the face for your fallen sister.
You can do it. I believe in you.
And after you have throttled every plant on Earth for its insolence, bring me some Chloraseptic on the way home. My throat is under attack by tiny, angry wolverines.
Who is with me?

Pre-Emptive Strike!
Posted 14 years agoThis is kind of weird, but I promised
I would do this (he is my bro, and bros don't leave bros hanging) and I dunno if I'm gonna be around tonight... and I'd rather not wait until tomorrow because it's kind of urgent.
The journal is here if you clicky.
Ivan and Katherine (a.k.a. mooshay) are like family to me, and even though this just seems to be about an electric bill... well, half of their income has been cut off so it's a bit more stressful than that. I'm pretty worried, so I encourage you to look through andren's gallery and see if you like what he does. If you do? Leave a comment on the above journal so he can maybe get back to you with a price estimate.
He won't charge you an arm and a leg. I promise. And he does really good work. This, I can attest to. And he'll draw just about anything... but porn.
Yeah, he's like me in that regard. :B
But, if you think you could help--even if it's just buying an icon--it would be uber appreciated. ;_;

WHAT (a.k.a. Watcher Appreciation Journal)
Posted 14 years agoFIVE HUNDRED WATCHERS? FOR REALSIES? OMG, I love you guys so much. Come here and let me hug you with my big, hairy dog arms. ;u;
In all seriousness, though? This seems as good of a time as ever to tell you guys thanks. I know I pretty much have thanked every last one of you at least once, but let me drill it home just how much I mean it.
You guys are rad as hell, and I am extremely gracious that ya'll even took three seconds of your life to look at my scribbles, even once.
I was in a pretty dark place for a while, especially in terms of art. Every critique, kind word, or even acknowledgement you dudes gave me? It would make my day. When you guys stick around in the comments and yap at me forever over silly shit and geeky stuff? It tickles me to death.
Seriously, I love it when you guys talk to me. And I will talk forever given half the chance, as some of you now know. :B
I may not be the most popular and I may not have the most watchers, but I do have the good ones. :3
Ya'll are amazing. Thanks for putting up with me on the Internet. <3

Best. Phone Call. Ever.
Posted 14 years agoI just got a call from the transfer liaison who was handling my application for Berea College. She wanted to let me know it would take two and a half years to finish my degree with them, and asked if I was okay with that.
I said yes.
And apparently now I've been accepted.
I AM JUST SO RELIEVED BECAUSE THEY ONLY ACCEPT A HANDFUL OF TRANSFER STUDENTS EVERY YEAR. I was a mess about this, but now it seems I have finally gotten into the college I wanted to go to in the first place.
Bonus points? I will now be close to my dad's family, who I've not seen in over a year.
I am a squealing mess of joy right now, so I just had to tell ALL THE PEOPLE.
