Moving to Weasyl?
Posted 12 years agoI'm a little on the fence as to creating an account on Weasyl. It would be great to have a new start and more or less painless clean up of my gallery. (I really detest a lot of my old work and FA's format makes deleting old submissions a pain in the patooty - hence why I rarely do it) My hesitation is mostly because FA's come to be a little bit of a second home (Facebook being my first). Though I've been somewhat lax in being an active member as of late, I've been a part of this site since 2009 and I highly enjoy the friendships I've made and the conversations I've had.
I can't imagine abandoning FA entirely, but gradually transitioning to primarily using Weasyl is somewhat appealing to me.
Thoughts? Opinions? Cookies?!

(I value that arm and leg at a total of $1800) So, being a rational human being with artistic talent, I have decided to do some really cheap general and adult commissions. I apologize to those watchers who have probably appreciated the fact that I don't have much adult-art in my gallery, I probably will remove the pieces from my gallery after the commissioner have saved it and re-uploaded it to their own account (which they always have permission to do). I Wish I Had _______.
Posted 12 years agoImportant Life Question: If you could have any animal ability or characteristic (ie gills, claws, echolocation), what would it be? Ingenious and particularly witty responses may be drawn. I'm making a short mini-series of doodles titled "I Wish" and I need some more ideas.
So far I've come up with: Prehensile tail, seeing in the dark, bioluminescence/glowing, changing colors, tiny hoof feet, spiting venom (personal favorite), swallowing food whole, and having an extra set of arms.

Learning Swedish? Opinions Needed.
Posted 13 years agoSo I've had a silly idea about trying to become fluent in one of my ancestral languages. I'm a third generation Dane who's also about a 1/3 Swede and a 1/3 Finn. My great grandparents were fresh-off-the-boat Scandihoovians and my grandmother on my mother's side -rest in peace- was fluent in both Danish and English but passed away from cancer when I was about 10. My dad's side of the family is primarily Finnish but most of them live in Minnesota (quite a bit away from California and we haven't visited them for several years) so the little Finnish I know are mostly jokes and little bits of nothing (insults & random phrases). My younger brother is plans on learning Finnish at some point while I've been torn between trying to learn Danish or Swedish. Since it's hard to find someone or some program to learn Swedish/Danish in California since it's not offered in school or at most colleges I've decided that I want to maybe try and use the Rosetta Stone software.
Rosetta Stone isn't cheap, but I thought I'd splurge on a 21st birthday present to myself and maybe get a beginning level. I just couldn't decide which language to pick. This decision was made for me when Rosetta Stone discontinued Danish, which leaves me to learn Swedish should I chose to purchase it. I'm seriously considering it and have been for about two months now. Upon further investigation it would be cheaper in the long run if I wanted to be serious about my language-investment to get a Level 1-3 package deal instead of just an introduction (Level 1).
Another small reason for me wanting to try learning Swedish is of course the most cliché thing ever: a boy. Me learning Swedish would be the opportunity to try and woo/seduce/impress him. All you need to know is he's from Sweden (but has been living in the States for about five years now) and I've liked him since I met him almost four years ago. We have a bunch in common but I've been too shy to try and ask him out because for American girls reading European boys is like trying to read a brick for facial expressions. NO RLY.
That being said, I'm thinking of buying Rosetta Stone - Swedish Levels 1-3. It's fairly expensive but they've got a good monthly program to pay it off within a few months at a reasonable cost.
Go for it or save teh monies?
And if I do go for it, any SwedeFurs like to maybe Skype with me for speaking practice? I would draw for you as we skype (Whoo! Free art!) and it wouldn't be serious or anything, you can even put a bag on your head I just want practice speaking with a native-speaker. Let us be fweeeeends.

Posted 13 years agoI know "Avengers" came out a little while ago, but I'm thinking it'd be awesome to see other furs cosplaying as various superheros in icons on this site. I was thinking of doing the Avengers team (including Loki and a few members of SHEILD) for the raffle-give away, but I'd be open for commissions for any of the other Marvel or DC chars.
Here's how the free raffle is going to work:
1. Comment after my post with what Avengers Char you're interested in having your character cosplay as. (aka look for the post I make with the said char you want mentioned and comment there)
2. In that post following mine mention something you like about my art, what I could probably work on, and how good those butts looked in the "Avengers" movie.
3. Failure to comment with the following information will result in not being included in the free raffle.
4. I'll only be picking one for each character - and because I'm a selfish motherfu#$er, you can't win Thor. You can commission me for a Thor-cosplaying char, but you have to fork over $10 for it.
5. I'll be selecting the winners by giving everyone who comments a number and then, I am quite literally going to draw them out of a hat for each char.
6. You only can enter ONCE. Not "once for me and once for my mate" get your mate to come over to my journal and post where they'd like to enter. (You CAN win for someone else if you yourself don't enter)

The timing's hilarious (because I didn't do it right and could fix it but I'm far too lazy to do that), the seals move strangely, the texture could use some work AND I COULDN'T BE PROUDER. If I was given more time I would have worked on the timing more but seeing that my selkie-girl model took up most of my given time frame, this animation (made in about two and a half days) suits me just fine.
BE SHOCKED AND AWED BY DURPINESS AT IT'S MOST GLORIOUS!

I'm going on friday and I'll be cosplaying as Astrid from HTTYD and my friend's going to be Toothless like she was last year. (Look for us!) Week Hiatus~
Posted 14 years agoNot that I'm really active currently. 'Yes' more than I have been I agree but not as much as the past. Anyways, I'll be gone for about a week. There's a time in your life when you have to go through a sort of initiation in order to really become something.
I'm finally becoming a real pirate. Legitamately.
I can fence, I'm a level 2 sailor, I love rum, and I know the lingo. One thing is left for me: the caribbean.
So if you need me; I'll be sailing around in the BVI. 8]
It's with a few other kids in the sailing program at UCSC, basically a week in the British Virgin Islands being awesome.

Melbourne Furs! Halp. [Er, Nevermind]
Posted 14 years agoSo far, everything has been going swimmingly here in Australia. I saw Sydney, surfed on the Gold Coast, explored the rainforest of Cairns and snorkled at the Great Barrier Reef, hiked around (not up!) Uluru and then along King's Canyon and spent a night at Alice Springs (And got to feed a wallaby momma and her babeh!). Now that I'm in Melbourne, I had four days with my family in a hotel, then they dropped me off at my apartment and I've been here for three days.
Yesterday my intented roommate showed up, looked around and told me she couldn't live here. She had no problem with me, but didn't like the place, location, and -I suspect the big "r" here- the fact that almost everyone in our building is Asian. (Which, I have no problem with unless they yell at me in cantonese because I only know how to say "hi" like all other idiotic Americans). I paid the bond and she was to pay the rent, but since she doesn't want to live here, we're going to look for a new place. But I have a feeling that the landlords might want us to leave soon since we haven't paid yet. And I also might just find a place without here, she was going to teach me Danish, but I don't like a little racism in my roomies (even if she didn't say she doesn't like Asians, I can tell she was imagining a white white white Australia).
What I'm trying to say is, I might need a place to crash for a few nights. Just till I find a new home for this semester. I'm currently at the Unilodge on Lonsdale street by the Greek part of town with a shit ton of things.
I can pay in monies or in art (or a combination). I can cook, clean, perform slave labor, sexual favors...er, not that one. But I appreciate the thought.
So, anyone have a couch? Spare bed? Doggy bed? Blanket in the corner?

Seriously though, I'm leaving for Australia and I won't be back in good ol' US of A till the end of November. I probably won't have much computer time till I get settled in, I'm touring the country with my family for the first two and a half weeks I'm there, so don't expect art till mid-july but if it happens, please, rejoice.

Since I won't have a phone or designated computer time till mid-July, you'll have to wait till then to meet me. (And I'd love to meet you all! I'll be studying Film at UniMelb till Nov 25th, so please, let's hang. I'll draw you stuff and laugh at your accent. It'll be great.) Posted 14 years agoSo I'm going to be making a few Dr. Who themed animations! I need some money and you need to go on a ride on the TARDIS with The Doctor. Got it?
Animated Prices:
Option 1 - 600x600
~ $10 You get an animated gif of your char (or your real self) flying through time and space with the tenth Doctor (Tennant)
~ $15 You can do the same exact thing as above but with the 11th Doctor (Smith) - the only reason this costs more is because I have a template that I made for Ten and I'd have to make a new one up for 11
Option 2 - 100x100 / 600x600
~ $10 You get an animated gif of your char (or your real self) poking out of the TARDIS with the tenth Doctor (Tennant)

Lineart Advice?

I HATE my lineart!
It's just bleeeeeeeeeh. I end up liking my scribbledyscrabble sketches more than my actual lines and though it's improved since I first joined here and started using my tablet (hurhurhursuchbadart) I find myself jealous of other artist's nice clean lines. I want dem lines.
When I draw (using Photoshop CS4) I use the pen tool and usually something like 5px on anything from about a 7'x7' and up (but hardly ever than 14'x12') using my tablet (with brush sensitivity)
Any artists have any techniques they use?
Am I drawing on a too-small canvas?
Should I just draw my lines slower so they're sharper? (I draw superfast once I get going)
Am I crazy and my lines look "fine"?

Cat Update

I DID NOT have to put my cat to sleep today. :))))))
The BAD news:
She's going to end up being a "pirate" kitty. They're going to amputate her back leg. She's been limping for a little while and we were thinking it was old-age. But her ankle got really swollen and the x-ray showed that there's been a growing "mass" (That's what they called it, kinda like a tumor) that is slowly eating up her metatarsals (bones in her feet). So the best we can do for her is to have it taken off next week and hope that the mass-tumor-thing hasn't spread. :(
Peekaboo (my cat) shall be granted the privilege of several new nicknames including but not limited to: Peggy, Triboo, Peekapod, Pegleg Peek, and Stubaboo.
BUT
My kitty is alive and happy.
My world can now revolve and carry on. <3
Art shall resume tomorrow

Art on Hold (Temporary)
Posted 14 years agoSo I was honestly planning on doing more art-wise this weekend. I was going to finish 
's Pokedoodle commission and 
's "Hurp Derp" commission as well as at least one comic for "13-oh-Three" (which needs updating since my computer freaked out on me) and a few more prizes for my art contest but two things ended up happening:
~This little head-cold I've been having got a hell of a lot worse yesterday and I feel like crap. (Not fever-status) I'm coughing a bunch and I just want to sleep because I'm all sore and sniffy.
~And I learned that my mom's going to take my kitty Peekaboo to the vet tomorrow to see about her leg. She's been limping for a little while and the joint looks really swollen, she's 13 years old -but still healthy and very spunky because she's an indoor cat- but if it costs a lot to fix whatever is wrong with her leg we might put her down. Needless to say, I'm really upset about that idea. She's my little baby and has been with me since I was in second grade.
Currently I'm a bit of a wreak at the thought of losing my fuzzy best friend while I'm away at college. I'll be skipping class tomorrow and going home (I live about two hours away) to bring her to the vets with my mom, and hopefully back home.

My ass be hella lucky. HELLA.
It was a hard-drive problem b-b-b-b-b-ut when I took it in to get fixed, it was only an error with the cable that connected the hard-drive to my computer! So long story short, I ended up only paying $50 instead of $190 to get my computer fixed.
Other good news:
~ Midterms are done! Two of mine were fairly easy, but the one I had this week pretty much bent me over and had it's way with me, not even going to lie.
~ All is going swimmingly with me and my going-to-Aussieland-ness for a quarter. I will be officially attending school in Melbourne will arrive in Australia around July 12th and will be there till November 25th-ish. So if any Aussiebuddies of mine want to show me around or meet real me WINKWINKNUDGENUDGE let's do it!
~ I have an ish*! ;D
~ Now that I have my computer back I plan on doing a shit ton of drawings/commissions/prizes/comics this weekend. I'm having serious withdrawals from lack of doodle abilities.
AND
I just learned today,
That I will be helping crew one of two 51-footer Keel Boats in the British Virgin Islands for an entire week next winter. Me. In the Caribbean. Sailing on a boat. Sleeping on deck. Snorkeling and sailing all day. LIVING. THE. PIRATE. DREAM.
You have no idea how stoked on life I am right now.

Computer Problems D:

So yesterday my laptop decided to freeze on me, which computers are sometimes ought to do; and I couldn't shut it down safely so I hit the power-button. I waited a bit and hit the button again so I could get back to work. It started up really slowly but only made it to the grey screen of death (I have a Mac) and after about twenty seconds of nothing, it began to taunt me with an icon of a folder with a question mark no matter how many times I restarted it.
Turns out my dummy computer temporarily lost the location of it's start-up software, meaning I can't do anything till I put the original installation disc back in it. Which is at home. Three hours away.
I get a midterm online today.
AND I have 3D animation homework that is already a few days late. . . which I just lost three hours of work on.
The good news is, my dad is going to swing by after work and bring me the disc. So I'll have a few hours to cram my midterm in before it's due instead of the whole day. And, I just recently backed up my entire computer on an external hard-drive. Buuuut I still lost the three hours of animation work T^T
Just letting everyone know that I've discovered I'm addicted to the internet and my computer and had a nervous breakdown. Hopefully, later today all will be somewhat well again.
